  • Height: Unknown
  • Weight: Unknown
  • Age: Unknown
  • Date of Birth: Unknown (almost certainly April 30)
  • Birthplace: Ishana
  • Hobbies: Unknown
  • Likes: Her little sister and mother
  • Dislikes: That Bastard (AKA her father)

A young girl who will grow up to become Nine of the Six Heroes. She lives in the Magister's City: Ishana with her little sister (referred to as Little Sister in the story). Me loves her sister very dearly and has taken up raising her and protecting her but is angry and violent to everyone else. She loathes her father, who used her and her mother as guinea pigs in his experiments.

After getting sucked into the Phantom Field and separated from Little Sister, she forgets her name and meets Nobody. In order to find her missing sister, Me traverses the Phantom Field in search of the Memory Fragments that will let her reach Little Sister at the lowest level of the Phantom Field.

For info about her adult self, see here.

  • Artifact of Doom: Subverted. While her eye is the Origin of the Grimoire, it is only a weaker replica that only has the power to absorb and store seithr with no connection to the Black Beast.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She will do anything and everything to protect Little Sister.
  • Blessed with Suck: She was born with the power to automatically draw seithr towards herself. This results in everyone around her getting seithr poisoning, even her mother when she was in her uterus.
  • Break the Cutie: Seeing her mother die and her father coldly take her away to experiment on her turned Me from a sweet and kind little girl into the angry loner that cares for nobody but her sister.
  • The Cameo: If Amane's Astral Heat is used on Nine, she turns back into Me.
  • Canon Name: While she is a case of Hello, [Insert Name Here] in game, her official name (or at least what she is officially called in this game) is Me. Of course her true canon name is Konoe, but the game doesn't let you use that name for her.
  • Child Prodigy: She is good enough with magic to shoot fireballs, produce light, create protective wards and even repair the machine that can access the Phantom Field at her young age and even more impressively is completely self-taught.
  • Daddy Issues: She hates her dad because she thinks he didn’t care about his family and experimented on his wife immediately after she died. After learning that he truly cared for his family and how the death of his wife broke him she decides to try reconciling with him and is about to meet him at the end of the game. Unfortunately BlazBlue shows that this will not work out well.
  • Decoy Protagonist: She is both the focal and playable character for the first half of the game but after she and Little Sister are thrown out of the Phantom Field it becomes clear that Nobody/Es, who has both been traveling with Me and been the focus of the Memory Fragments Me viewed, is the true protagonist of the story. Me then returns Es to the XBlaze timeline and isn’t seen again until the end of the game.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: At the start of the game she is always angry and dismissive of Nobody but as she goes through the Phantom Field and experiences Es’s emotions she begins to open up to Nobody and even starts to see her as a friend. By the end of the game she has decided to let herself trust others and even tries to reconcile with her father.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father left to continue his research shortly after Little Sister was born. He comes back to visit them at the end of the game but it evidently didn’t go well since they are still estranged by the time of Phase Shift.
  • Dub Name Change: Her official name is “Me” in the English release.
  • Energy Absorption: Her imitation Origin of the Grimoire can absorb the seithr around her and absorbs the Memory Fragments over the course of the game.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her Origin of the Grimoire eye has black sclera and the pupil is a large red X.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She wears a large black eyepatch over her left eye. It is actually a Power Limiter that prevents her Origin of the Grimoire from absorbing too much seithr.
  • Fetus Terrible: She has always the ability to attract seithr towards herself, even when she was still in her mother's womb. The Origin of the Grimoire replica is used to counteract that.
  • Fiery Redhead: More like Fiery Pinkhead, but she's easily angered and violence-prone for such a young girl.
  • Foreshadowing: If you try and input Nine as Me’s name, you get the message "It isn't quite time yet...".
  • Good Is Not Nice: All she wants to do is protect her little sister. Doesn’t mean she has to be nice to anyone else. In fact she admits that the only reason she didn’t blast Nobody with fire magic on first sight is because the Phantom Field doesn’t let her use offensive magic.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It's really easy to anger her, especially if you're anyone besides her little sister.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Initially Me has no name above her dialogue. Upon getting to the Phantom Field she forgets her name and Nobody tells her she has to give herself one or else she will start to lose all of her memories, at which point the player can choose one. However certain names, specifically those related to her real name, are rejected in various ways. For Phantom and various names related to Mercury it will forcibly cut off your input (turning Phantom into Phant) while others have specific error messages.
    • Konoe: "After checking the database, you cannot use the inputted name. Sorry."
    • Nine: "It isn't quite time yet..."
  • Hey, You!: The fact that she calls her father “That Bastard” should give you a good idea of how good their relationship is.
  • I Work Alone: She refuses to accept help from anyone and insists she can take care of Little Sister herself, even assuming that everyone else is actually trying to kidnap Little Sister because of her ability to suppress seithr. After she gives up on attacking Nobody Me tries to ditch her despite Nobody offering to guide her through the Phantom Field.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Because of her father’s perceived betrayal, she refuses to trust anyone else and believe that she and she alone can and should take care of Little Sister.
  • Invocation: “Code: Soul Eater, ignite! XBLAZE!”
  • Jerkass: She is not nice to Nobody at all. Despite Nobody only wanting to help her, Me constantly shouts at her, insults her, tries to ditch her and even tries to attack her as soon as they meet because apparently to Me the fact that Nobody knew about and spoke to Little Sister meant that Nobody had to have kidnapped her.
  • Just a Kid: How she thinks of Little Sister because of her overprotectiveness. Me doesn’t even trust her to go to the store on her own or cook dinner and flat out says she won't let Little Siter do absolutely anything on her own ever.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Believe it or not how we see Nine in BlazBlue is actually an improvement compared to how she is now. She is so paranoid that she believes that literally everyone who even knows about Little Sister will try to kidnap her, that Me refuses to even let Little Sister go outside and tries to attack Nobody despite her saying she will lead Me to her.
  • Leave Me Alone!: She constantly says this to Nobody who keeps following her and offering to help her navigate the Phantom Field.
  • Light 'em Up: She can use magic to make herself glow, which she uses to demonstrate magic to Nobody. Unlike her fire magic, she can still use it in the Phantom Field because it is not offensive magic.
  • Magical Eye: Her left eye is a replica of the Origin of the Grimoire. Her father created it and implanted it in her so that it could safely absorb the seithr she naturally attracts to herself. This Grimoire saved both her and her mother when she was in utero from dying of seithr poisoning due to Me’s ability. Like Touya’s Grimoire it can used the stored seithr to activate XBlaze.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother died while giving birth to Little Sister because the seithr poisoning Me inflicted left her too weak to handle a second pregnancy.
  • No Social Skills: Due to her refusal to trust anyone resulting in a mostly reclusive life, she barely interacted with anyone besides Little Sister and is unable to talk to anyone else without constantly insulting and shouting at them. She has improved significantly by the end of the game.
  • Only Friend: Nobody due to her being Me’s first friend.
  • Playing with Fire: Can use fire magic.
  • Poisonous Person: She naturally attracts seithr towards her, which is harmful to humans in large doses. She nearly killed both herself and her mother in the womb due to this ability giving them seithr poisoning.
  • Power Incontinence: She cannot control her seithr attraction and nearly killed her mother in utero because of this. By the time of Lost: Memories she still can’t turn it off and therefore can never stop her Origin of the Grimoire from absorbing the seithr, even when the vast quantity of it in the Phantom Field is too much and causes her intense pain.
  • Power Limiter: Her eyepatch limits her how much seithr her Origin of the Grimoire absorbs to prevent it from overloading. Me has to remove it to activate her XBlaze. It is unclear if she still needs it at the end of the game since she is wearing it in the ending CGs but not in the post-credits scene.
  • The Promise: Her mother’s Last Request was for Me to always look after and protect her little sister. Me takes this promise very seriously.
  • Promotion to Parent: After her mother dies and her father abandons them to continue his research, she steps up to raise Little Sister.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her left eye as a result of it being a replica Origin of the Grimoire. It can only be seen when she unleashes the full power of her XBlaze.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Because she devoted herself entirely to protecting Little Ssiter, she doesn’t even attend school at the Magic Guild. She uses this time to practice magic on her own and becomes incredibly proficient with it. However this meant she had no interaction with anyone else and developed No Social Skill as a result.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Her right eye is gold and she is an incredibly skilled mage although it is her red left eye that is truly supernatural.
  • Synchronization: Because her Origin of the Grimoire absorbs the Memory Fragments, Me is able to experience all of Es’s emotions when she views her memories. Me’s empathy with Es’s developing feelings of love and friendship allows her to open up to others as well.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: More of a Tomboyish Sidetail, but still.
  • Tsundere: She is incredibly kind and caring, if a bit condescending, to Little Sister. Towards everyone else she is she is a violent and angry Jerkass.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: From what little we see, before seeing her mother die and her father perform experiments on her she was just as innocent and kind as Little Sister is.

  • Height: Unknown
  • Weight: Unknown
  • Age: Unknown
  • Date of Birth: Unknown
  • Birthplace: Phantom Field
  • Hobbies: Unknown
  • Likes: Riddles, having fun
  • Dislikes: Being alone

A mysterious girl who has lived in the Phantom Field for as long as she can remember. Nobody claims to have no memory but somehow knows all of the Phantom Field’s strange properties. She is perpetually happy and always wanting to have fun, especially having a fondness for riddles and puzzles. When she meets Me, she offers her the chance to find her sister, Little Sister, by guiding her to the bottom of the Phantom Field. As she and Me travel together the two become each other's first and most precious friend.

  • Ambidextrous Sprite: Especially noticeable due to her giant heart shaped ahoge constantly reversing.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Of the Embryo. After Es seals away her memories, the Embryo develops a new persona in the form of Nobody.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She is very... odd to say the least. She doesn’t seem to get that Me is trying to get away from her so she drives Me insane when she keeps following and she often forgets important things.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Most of her very small amount of clothing is black but she is entirely harmless and happy-go-lucky.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Never opens them but can somehow still see. She does this to hide the fact that she has the Azure Eyes due to being the Embryo.
  • Faking Amnesia: She knows exactly who and what she is. While traversing the Phantom Field she acts excited about all the new things she sees like eating pudding and going to the pool but is fully aware of how things end for Touya.
  • Foreshadowing: She has a large ahoge in the shape of a heart, much like Es has one shaped like a question mark. This is because she is Es (or rather her body and the Embryo left behind after Es turned her memories into crystals) and because Nobody was created as result of Es’s broken heart.
  • Genki Girl: Is happy and full of energy all the time, much to Mei’s constant annoyance.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Although she didn’t fully realize until Me and Little Siter enter the Phantom Field, she is very lonely and wants to have friends she can play with.
  • Idiot Hair: Has a large ahoge in the shape of a heart.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: She has no idea who she is or why she’s in the Phantom Field. Even her name is just one she gave herself. The only thing she seems to know is the rules of the Phantom Field.
  • Literal Split Personality: Nobody is what is left behind after Es purges herself of her memories after crossing the Despair Event Horizon. She is essentially just the Embryo in human form. They do, however, merge in the end with Me's help.
  • Love Hurts: She was literally born because of this. After Me returns to the Phantom Field she says that she prepared herself to always live alone since she cannot return to Touya and tells Me to leave since her being there only makes it more difficult and painful to return to being alone.
  • Mysterious Waif: This girl has lived in the Phantom Field for god knows how long without noticing anything odd about it. While she does act more cheerful than most other examples of the trope, this makes her even more mysterious instead.
  • Mystical White Hair: She is a mysterious girl who is actually the Embryo and happens to have white hair.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: The strips of cloth that hang over each breast leaves everything in between them completely exposed and they are not wide enough to even cover the whole breast.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She has tendency to pop up right in front of Me’s face.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: Has the Azure Eyes because she is the Embryo.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Is almost always smiling.
  • Riddle Me This: She likes riddles and will give Me one at the end of each floor of the Phantom Field. She says she developed her fondness for riddles and puzzles to keep herself entertained. When she pushes Me and Little Sister into the Phantom Field’s exit she gives Me one last riddle. “Who am I”?
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Even after becoming Nobody, Es still retains her love for Touya.
  • The Soulless: Played with, much like Nobodies of Kingdom Hearts. Es scattered her own memories in the form of Memory Fragments, leaving behind Nobody, who, while still having Es' soul, becomes an entirely new being without Es’s memories. Like KH's Nobodies, who grew a heart over time, this Nobody also gets her own “Phantom Memories” from her experiences as her own person. Later on, Me creates a new body for Es using the power stored in her Phantom Memories and transferred her now memory free soul into the new body along with Es' memories. Es is able to regain these memories when she uses their power to activate her Phantom Memory: XBlaze.
  • Stepford Smiler: She hides the fact that she knows about her past as Es and the heartbreak she had behind a cheerful demeanor and peppy actions. Even though she knows she can’t leave the Phantom Field she happily expresses her desire to eat pudding and go to a pool and even when she pushes Me and Little Sister out of the Phantom Field she gives her last riddle with a smile.
  • Stocking Filler: Wears white thigh high stockings that have suspenders connected to her panties on the back.
  • Stripperific: Her clothes consists of thigh high stockings, opera gloves, a thong and two strips of partially see through cloth that hang freely over her breasts. That's all.

    Imouto/Little Sister (Celica A. Mercury)

  • Age: Unknown
  • Date of Birth: Unknown (almost certainly September 8)
  • Birthplace: Ishana

  • Likes: Family
  • Dislikes: Standing still

A young Celica A. Mercury. Little Sister lives in the Magister’s City: Ishana with her older sister Me. She is a sweet young girl who looks up to and respects her older sister but does not like how overprotective Me is of her and desires more freedom. When the two of them get transported to the Phantom Field she wakes up in the lowest level and meets Nobody who gives her a name and then goes to bring Me to her.

For info about her adult self, see Blaz Blue Chrono Phantasma.

  • Advertised Extra: She is advertised as being one of the main and most prominent characters but Me spends most of the game just searching for her and shortly after they reunite Es takes over as the main protagonist and focus shifts to the main XBlaze timeline.
  • Batman Gambit: Having Me traverse the Phantom Field to find her was her idea. Upon meeting Nobody and seeing the Memory Fragments about her father, Little Sister realizes that even if Me saw them she wouldn’t believe it and assume it was a lie. She stays at the bottom of the Phantom Field and sends Nobody to guide Me to her so that Me has to experience Es’s memories and will therefore believe the memories about her father.
  • Big Brother Worship: Big sister in this case; she idolizes her older sister and wants to be be as reliable and hard working as her although that doesn’t stop her from being upset that Me treats her like a helpless child.
  • The Cameo: In BlazBlue CP and CF, Celica turns into Little Sister if Amane's Astral Heat is used on her.
    • She also appears as a vision Nine has during her final fight with Ragna.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Brown hair and eyes.
  • The Cutie: She is a younger and more innocent Celica after all.
  • Damsel in Distress: Subverted. Me believes she is this when they are separated (and assumes Nobody is the one responsible) but Nobody says that she is safe on the lowest level of the Phantom Field and since Nobody gave her a name, she is not at risk of losing her memory. When they finally reunite she is completely fine just like Nobody said.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name is “Little Sister” in the English release.
  • Gilded Cage: In a way her house is one for her. While she is living happily there with her beloved older sister, she is forbidden from every going out on her own, so she is essentially trapped there. This is why her dislike is standing still, she wants freedom to move about wherever she wants and be able to do things on her own like her sister does.
  • Living Macguffin: What Me thinks she is. Because of her ability to suppress seithr Me assumes that any mage who learns about her will kidnap her to perform experiments on.
  • Power Nullifier: She can naturally suppress and negate all of the seithr around her.
  • Protectorate: For Me. Little Sister doesn’t like how far Me goes because of this, especially that she won’t let her go outside.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While Me is brash and violent, Little Sister is innocent and gentle. Whereas Me attracts seithr, Little Sister neutralizes it.

Me and Little Sister’s dad. After his wife died he took her body to perform experiments on. He later left his daughters in order to continue his research. As a result Me hates him.

For information about his appearance in BlazBlue, see Light Novel Characters.

  • Despair Event Horizon: Crosses it when his wife dies. Unable to cope with his failure to save her, he pours himself into more dangerous experiments, eventually leading him to become the Shuichiro Ayatsuki who would summon the Black Beast into the world.
  • Determinator: He worked tirelessly to find a way to save his wife and unborn daughter and eventually succeeded by creating a replica of the Origin of the Grimoire.
  • Foregone Conclusion: We know that, despite Me’s efforts, the two will not reconcile with each other because Nine still hates her father by the time of BlazBlue.
  • Guinea Pig Family: He experimented on his wife’s corpse immediately after she died and gave Me her seithr-absorbing eye. That second one is a rare positive example since implanting the Origin of the Grimoire into Me save both her and Mother’s lives.
  • The Lost Lenore: His wife. Her death served as his Start of Darkness.
  • Never My Fault: He refuses to believe that he was responsible for his wife’s death by not finishing the Origin of the Grimoire in time. This pushes him to perform darker experiments.
  • Parental Abandonment: After his wife died he left Me and Little Sister on their own to continue his experiments. He returns at the end of Lost: Memories.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: As a result of his wife’s death, he became completely engrossed in his research, abandoning his children. He would eventually perform experiments that would create things like Kushinada’s Lynchpin, which requires sacrificing Celica to work, and would take part in the experiment that released the Black Beast.
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s hard to talk about his role in the story because his main appearance reveals that he was actually a good father, how far he went to save his family and how he became the man Me hated.
  • Workaholic: He worked tirelessly in order to save Mother and Me, barely sleeping for weeks. After Mother’s death he devoted himself entirely to his research, abandoning his daughters in the process.
  • You Are Too Late: While he did save Mother and Me’s lives with the Origin of the Grimoire, Mother had already suffered severe seithr poisoning by that point. This left her too weak to handle a second childbirth, leading to her death since she refused to save herself at the cost of her daughter.

A small doll with sentience that belonged to Ripper before his death. Now Kiri holds it and considers it his Only Friend. In truth, he is Ripper; or rather he is a doll possessed by Ripper’s soul. When the Magic Guild resurrected Ripper’s corpse, for some unknown reason a new personality, who become Kiri, was born inside it and Ripper’s soul was pushed out, forcing him to possess the Brain Cat doll to survive. He wants to reclaim his body, manipulating Kiri’s sense of justice to gather enough seithr for him to perform the fusion. After Kiri goes berserk and drains half the seithr from Touya and the Origin of the Grimoire, Brain Cat succeeds in returning to his body and hijacks control from Kiri, becoming Freaks.

For info about Brain Cat before he died, see Ripper’s entry. For info about Brain Cat after he regains his body, see Freaks’s entry.

  • Back from the Dead: He is Ripper’s soul after the Magic Guild revived his body.
  • Cats Are Mean: When they’re possessed by the soul of a Serial Killer and manipulate a naïve amnesiac into becoming a monster they most certainly are.
  • The Corrupter: He turns Kiri into a Serial Killer by convincing him that those people are “the bad guys” who he needs to kill to be a hero.
  • Demonic Dummy: The doll is animated by Ripper’s soul.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Who would have guessed that the doll Ripper wore on his jacket would end up becoming the Big Bad?
  • Enemy Without: For Kiri. He is controlled by Ripper’s soul, which got separated from his body when he was revived. Thus he is the evil trying to merge back with Kiri to take control. Played with in that it was Ripper’s body in the first place and it’s the creation of the good Kiri personality that forces him to manifest separately.
  • Expy: Of Yuuki Terumi in his ghost form during Phase Shift 1. He is a dangerous villain who is currently powerless because he lacks a body and acts as The Corrupter to the person who is his vessel that he is trying to fuse with.
  • False Friend: Kiri considers Brain Cat to be his Only Friend but Brain Cat is only manipulating Kiri so that he can eventually reclaim his body.
  • Grand Theft Me: When Kiri drains the seithr from Touya’s Origin of the Grimoire he lefts his soul get absorbed into his Crystal as well, taking over Kiri’s body and becoming Freaks.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He manipulates Kiri by playing on his desire to be a hero, telling Kiri about “the bad guys” who supposedly turned Brain Cat from a human into a doll and stole Kiri’s memories. He convinces Kiri to attack “the bad guys” so he can absorb seithr and get stronger. He also tricks Kiri into believing that Touya is the Big Bad that he needs to defeat to regain his memories, letting Kiri absorb enough seithr for Ripper to take over his body.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The doll has bright red eyes and is the Big Bad of Lost: Memories, albeit currently sealed.
  • Sealed Evil in a Teddy Bear: The doll houses Ripper's soul. Much like Terumi and Kazuma in BlazBlue: Phase Shift, he directs Kiri to hunt "bad guys" so one day he can merge with his own reanimated corpse.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Brain Cat has very few lines and spends most of its limited screen time appearing to be just a doll Kiri carries around. However, in that little time he manipulates Kiri into doing evil and then performs a Grand Theft Me. Downplayed in that the soul possessing he was a major villain in Code: Embryo and becomes the Big Bad; it’s only his time as Brain Cat specifically that has a small role.
  • Walking Spoiler: He is possessed by Ripper’s soul. All of his spoilers are unmarked because almost everything he says or does is directly related to his manipulation of Kiri or possessing him to become the Big Bad.

  • Likes: His cat plushie
  • Dislikes: Lies

A mysterious young man who has lost all memories of the past except his name and the current owner of Brain Cat. Kiri is very shy and has little confidence in himself, but is actually very kind and desires to be a hero. He escaped from some kind of lab where he was subjected to many horrifying experiments before coming to Shin Yokozaki City from far away to fight the leader of the so-called “bad guys” so he can regain his memories.

  • Actually Not a Vampire: He bites his victims’ necks with sharp fangs, leading to the rumors of him being a vampire. There are actual vampires in this universe (the Alucards) and Kiri has nothing to do with them. He is actually a Union who drains seithr from his victims as opposed to drinking blood.
  • Afraid of Doctors: He hates hospitals and runs off when Hinata suggests he go to the hospital because of his headaches. This is because he remembers the experiments the Magic Guild performed on him and Hates Being Touched.
  • Back from the Dead: He's actually Ripper's corpse reanimated by the Magic Guild, but he grows his own personality. Later on, though, Ripper's soul manages to merge with him, becoming Freaks.
  • Black Cloak: He wears a large black jumpsuit with blue stripes all over it. Downplayed in that it doesn’t cover his arms and he wears it open must of the time.
  • Brought Down to Normal: After Touya and Es destroy Freaks's crystal Kiri is reduced to a normal human.
  • Chained by Fashion: He wears large handcuffs on his wrists with short chains dangling from them. These are most likely leftover from when he escaped the Magic Guild.
  • Consulting Mister Puppet: Sometimes engages in this with Brain Cat. The doll can actually speak, however.
  • The Corruptible: Due to his amnesia and overall naiveté, Brain Cat is able to easily convince him to murder people simply by telling him they are “the bad guys” who the hero must defeat.
  • Covered in Scars: Has some nasty scars in the shape of a cross on the front and back of both his arms. He also has a large one on his chest, but it can only be seen when he is Freaks.
  • Creepy Crosses: His scars are cross-shaped and while he looks rather harmless, he's still creepy-looking.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears all black, has very dark hair and is incredibly pale, is wearing handcuffs and in general has a very dark and creepy aura about him. However he is actually very kind, if a bit shy, and just wants to remember his past and be a hero. Of course this is averted to high hell once he becomes Freaks.
  • Disney Death: Freaks claims that he destroyed Kiri’s personality when he took control but after his Crystal is destroyed and Freaks dies with it, Kiri regains control. He also appears to die shortly afterwards but is seen alive in a hospital bed during the credits.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: He is significantly paler than anyone else in the cast and has dark grey hair. This is most likely because he is a revived corpse.
  • Energy Absorption: He can absorb seithr from a person by biting their neck, in a manner reminiscent of vampires.
  • Escaped from the Lab: After being revived he broke free from the Magic Guild, killing most of its leaders along the way, before fleeing to Shin Yokozaki City.
  • Expy: Of Kazuma Kval from BlazBlue: Phase Shift. He is an overall kind and decent person, if a bit anti-social, who is meant to serve as a vessel for the Ax-Crazy villain who is stuck without a body. Said villain manipulates him so that they can fuse together, with the villain’s personality taking control.
  • Grand Theft Me: Is a victim of this by Brain Cat, creating Freaks.
  • Hair Antennae: Has two hairs that stick up from the middle of his head.
  • Hates Being Touched: He says that he never wants to be touched by anyone when Hinata suggests getting examined by a doctor and says it again while pushing Touya away when he tried to help Kiri stand. This stems from the trauma caused by the experiments the Magic Guild performed on him when they resurrected him.
  • Hero with an F in Good: He wants to be a hero but doesn’t really understand how to do that. The only way he knows how to be a hero is to “kill the bad guys.” Unfortunately, what makes someone a “bad guy” to him is when Brain Cat deems someone as one, which means innocent people are the supposed “bad guys” and Touya is the Big Bad.
  • Heroic Wannabe: All he wants is to be a hero and save the world and regain his memories. The problem with this is he doesn’t have a good understanding of how to actually do the whole "hero" thing.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: While he is reclusive by nature, he shows signs of this. When he learns that Es also has amnesia he tries to bond with her and quickly considers her a friend. He also hopes that he has someone who he considers his most important person like Es has Touya and one of his reasons for wanting to be a hero is that Brain Cat says defeating “the bad guys” will make everyone love him.
  • In the Hood: His Black Cloak has a large hood, although he only actually uses it to cover his head when attacking people as the “vampire”.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He can’t remember anything but his name. Kiri believes that they were stolen by the bad guys who experiments on him, the Magic Guild, and has to defeat the boss of the bad guys, Touya Kagari, to regain them. He actually is able to become friends with Es by bonding over their mutual amnesia. This is because he was technically born when Ripper’s body was revived and thus doesn’t actually have any memories from before escaping the Magic Guild.
  • Mana Drain: He can absorb the seithr from a person’s body by biting them like a vampire.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Kiri means “to cut” which doesn’t exactly sound very pleasant. It also foreshadows his connection to the similarly named Ripper.
  • Nervous Wreck: He is easily startled. Every time Es approaches him he freaks out and falls down, saying she scared him because he didn’t see her coming.
  • Only Friend: He considers Brain Cat to be this for him. He does however also become friends with Es and considering Brain Cat isn’t really his friend at all it could be argued that Es is the one who truly fits this trope.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: As soon as he breaks free of the Magic Guild he goes on a rampage and kills most of the Guild’s top brass because of the experiments they performed on him.
  • Shrinking Violet: A Rare Male Example. He is very withdrawn and has no confidence. When Hinata and Es approach him, he is unsure how to react to a stranger talking to him. He is also constantly doubting himself, repeatedly asking Brain Cat if he is really capable of defeating “the bad guys” and being a hero.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Brain Cat. He is convinced that by killing “the bad guys” he can regain his lost memories and become a hero loved by everyone. Brain Cat also tricks him into attacking Touya, despite learning that he is the most important person to Es, by saying that she is being deceived and Kiri needs to protect her from him. This leads to him draining Touya’s Origin of the Grimoire so that Brain Cat can reclaim his body.
  • Walking Spoiler: He is Ripper Back from the Dead. Much like Kazuma, the fact that he is the vessel for a Big Bad is the major defining trait of his character and one of the biggest reveals in the game.
  • Will Not Tell a Lie: He “hates liars more than anything.” Ironically everything he believes is a lie told to him by Brain Cat.
  • Wolverine Claws: He still possesses Ripper’s Drive, Scissor Hands, which turns his fingers into blades.
  • Zipperiffic: His black jumpsuit has an oversized zipper running vertically down the middle. It starts at his crotch and can seemingly zip up his entire body, including closing the hood. If you consider how it zips, it looks like a body bag.

The Big Bad of Lost: Memories. The result of Ripper’s soul hijacking Kiri’s body after draining half of the seithr from the Origin of the Grimoire, Freaks is the true resurrection of Ripper. Possessing the same sadistic personality but with the added power of the Origin of the Grimoire, he is far more dangerous than Ripper ever was. Using his newfound powers Freaks was able to kill Touya, Kuon, Mei and Elise in the timeline without Es, no matter how times the events repeated.

Freaks retains all of the abilities he had as Ripper. His Drive, Scissor Hands, transforms his fingers into razor sharp blades and has gained the ability to use it on both of his hands at the same time. Additionally, using the seithr he absorbed from Touya, he can now use the New Testament Drive: XBlaze which creates a tornado of black fog around him that can steal the life energy of everything it touches.

  • Appropriated Appellation: Seems to have this attitude when it comes to his name. He took the codename Ripper he was given by the Magic Guild and considered it a nickname and when he revives he says he is now Freaks because that is the Union codename given to Kiri because of his vampire-like actions.
  • Attack Its Weakpoint: As his Crystal right eye is where Ripper's soul resides and is the source of his Drive, it takes Es and Touya striking together at the same spot from opposite directions to defeat Freaks.
  • Ax-Crazy: He is a revived Ripper after all.
  • Big Bad: Of Lost: Memories. He is the one who is fated to kill Es’ loved one and is responsible for driving her to despair. Defeating Freaks is the key to her happy ending.
  • Black Cloak: The same one as Kiri, although the effect is ruined by how open it is.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: His right eye, which contains his Crystal, has black sclera.
  • Came Back Strong: He revived by absorbing half of the seithr in the Origin of the Grimoire, which is more than enough to regain his full power that Touya stole from him and also lets him use a form of XBlaze.
  • Casting a Shadow: After draining half of Touya's seither he gained the power of the Origin of the Grimore, which manifests in a similar form to Restriction Release (Soul Eater).
  • Chained by Fashion: Still wears the same handcuffs as Kiri.
  • Covered in Scars: He has cross-shaped scars on his arms and chest. Notably, the one on his chest looks like it was made from being cut open for an autopsy.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Always destined to deliver one to Touya, Kuon, Mei and Elise ending in their deaths. Even after Es returned, he was doing this until Es activated her XBlaze and Touya unlocked his Drive.
  • Death of Personality: Since his soul is contained in his Crystal, destroying the Crystal destroys the Ripper personality along with it, leaving behind Kiri in control of his body.
  • Dual Wielding: Freaks uses his Scissors Hands to create blades on both of his hands at the same time, something Ripper could never do (or at least was never shown to do).
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Like Kiri, most likely due to being a revived corpse. Unlike Kiri though, he is every bit as evil and dangerous as his appearance suggests.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Just like when he was Ripper, he only goes by the codename the Magic Guild gave him as a Union.
  • Expy: Of Yuuki Terumi, specifically as he appears in Chrono Phantasma and Central Fiction. He has abandoned most of the pretense of being Faux Affably Evil and is nothing but pure violence and brutality, adding darkness-based powers to his arsenal. He even starts wearing a hood.
  • Fog of Doom: The form his XBlaze takes.
  • Fusion Dance: Freaks is the result of a forced one between Kiri and Brain Cat.
  • Hair Antennae: Retains these from Kiri.
  • Hero Killer: Killed Touya, Kuon, Mei and Elise in the timeline without Es, no matter how many times Es tried to reset events. It is only after Es returns to tip the scales that he can be stopped.
  • Invocation: NEW TESTAMENT DRIVE — XBLAZE!
  • Laughing Mad: Does this even more than he did as Ripper.
  • Life Drain: His XBlaze behaves similarly to Soul Eater, creating a mist tornado made of dark energy that absorbs the life energy from everyone and everything around him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Just like Ripper only worse since the power of the Origin of the Grimoire makes him even stronger, faster and significantly more durable.
  • Made of Iron: The seithr from the Origin of the Grimoire has made him much tougher able to survive being hit by powerful spells like Mei’s Raijyu Shourai and Kuon’s Flamme lichtstrahl with the only effect being that he says they actually hurt a little bit. Even Kuon and Elise’s most powerful attack, Soul Direction is only able to do a little bit of damage to him. Unfortunately for him this only applies to his body. His Crystal is just as vulnerable to the Murakumo and its blood replica as any other.
  • Magical Eye: His left eye is green while his right eye is red due to it being his Crystal.
  • Mana Drain: Like Kiri, he can drain seithr by biting someone, storing it in his Crystal. He uses this on Touya after surviving Kuon and Elise’s Soul Direction, draining enough power from the Origin of the Grimoire to use his own XBlaze.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Would you want to come across a guy named Freaks?
  • Power Parasite: Absorbing the seithr from Touya’s Origin of the Grimoire also gives him some of the power of the Grimoire itself in the form of his own XBlaze.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The pupil of his right eye is red. Since this eye actually is his Crystal, his red eye is actually the source of the danger he presents. Unlike Ripper though he has a normal shaped pupil.
  • Sadist: Because some things never change. The only chance he really gets to show it is when he stabs Touya multiple times while taunting Kuon before biting him to drain the Origin of the Grimoire.
  • Serial Killer: Naturally being Ripper, if he succeeds in killing everyone he continues where he left off, starting with Hinata, Akira and Yuki in a Bad Ending.
  • Sexier Alter Ego: Well for as much as a sadistic Serial Killer can be sexy, he is this to Kiri since he wears his jacket open, completely exposing his bare chest.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Still the most vulgar character in the series. In fact the very first word he says is a Precision F-Strike.
  • Smug Super: More so than before thanks to the power of the Origin of the Grimoire. He flat out calls himself invincible.
  • Soul Jar: Because Ripper’s soul entered Kiri’s body via the seithr Kiri absorbed from Touya’s Origin of the Grimoire, his soul is inside of his Crystal. This ends up being his downfall, since destroying his crystal destroys his soul as well.
  • Super Mode: New Testament Drive: XBlaze. It drains life energy from all around him and powers him up even further.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Likes to affix “chan” to people’s names (Es-chan, Touya-chan, Mei-chan etc.) while taunting them. He drops this for Touya, calling him “Touya Kagari,” when he is serious.
  • That Man Is Dead: Immediately after reviving tells Es that Kiri “went to the great beyond.” Subverted since Kiri’s personality is still alive and resurfaces once Freaks’ Crystal is destroyed. He also seems to think this about Ripper, since he insists that he is now Freaks, the new nickname he was given.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Ripper being revived as Freaks made him go from on par with Touya and his friends to the point of easily killing them every time until Es appeared with her XBlaze and Touya unlocked his Drive and managed to kill him.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: His Black Cloak is almost completely unzipped, exposing his entire chest and stopping just above his crotch.
  • Walking Spoiler: There’s a reason all of his spoilers are unmarked. His entire existence is a spoiler, due to him being Ripper Back from the Dead, the Big Bad and being the one responsible for Touya’s fated death and the source of Es’ despair.
  • Wolverine Claws: He still possesses the Drive, Scissor Hands, although it isn’t made clear whether or not they still cause Wounds That Will Not Heal.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Is still perfectly willing to murder anyone regardless of gender. He succeeds in killing Kuon, Mei and Elise in the fated timeline and adds Es, Hinata and Yuki to the list in a Bad Ending.
  • Zipperiffic: The same giant zipper down the middle of his jumpsuit as Kiri all though he keeps the zipper much more open. As in “any lower and the game would be rated AO” open.
