    Arris Fern/Genevie "Gevie" Victoriano
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arrisvd_6.png
I used to think I was worthless. and I used to blame myself for my misery....Now I blame someone else.
A cold and hostile 22-year old girl who decides to plot revenge against her father, responsible for her mother's death 12 years ago. As part of her plan, she manipulates all the people who were responsible or at least somehow involved in the events that ended with the death of her mother. Arris uses her influences to make Mourne lose political, economical and military power by taking over Freija, attacking the Senate and gaining control over the Galick Key.

Even though she claims she's focused on her revenge and lost her emotions a long time ago, she still cares about her childhood friends Emma and Cyree, and her second motivation is to find Emma again (who was kidnapped in the past around the time her mother got murdered). Depending on the player's decisions, she might come to trust and care for Luna, which might force her to consider her plans for revenge and her mother's last words to her.

  • Anti-Hero/Anti-Villain: Depending on how you look at her, she's either an exceptionally brutal Unscrupulous Hero or a Well-Intentioned Extremist with Tragic Villain overtones.
  • Affably Evil: Gives off this, as she is remarkably polite, when she isn't killing or manipulating her enemies.
  • The Atoner: In Chapter 10, if she has high good karma. After having focused on revenge for most of her life and learning to care for others again, she decides to turn herself in if she makes it out alive. The "I Want to Live" Ending reveals that she did.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She's always been distant from others and has very few friends.
  • At Least I Admit It: When Cyree and America find that she's the informant who's been manipulating them, they call her out for being a liar. Arris admits it and takes no time calling out Cyree for always trying to sweet-talk her and America for being a stalker who pretended to be a rebel to impress Cyree.
  • Ate His Gun: Her favorite method of killing herself in the endings where she dies.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Averted. Arris is a only a master tactician, physical activity is not her strong suit. She prefers to leave it to Cyree, America and Emma instead.
  • Batman Gambit: She loves exploiting character faults of enemies to win battles or bring people to her cause. She's also the victim of them occasionally, as opponents will occasionally exploit her love for her friends to manipulate her.
  • Best Served Cold: One of her motivations behind her mission is to deliver vengeance to her father for his abandonment and killing her mother.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She rescues Cyree from the cops at Liz's abandoned house in Chapter 10.
  • Break the Cutie: In her backstory; Arris used to be a shy little girl until her mother's death kicked off a chain of horrible events.
  • Broken Ace: Arris is a talented and intelligent girl who attracts people's attention despite not caring for them, but she also is emotionally unstable, can't get along with majority of people, can't win the love of the person she likes and is obsessed with revenge.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She has short brown hair, befitting her tomboyish personality.
  • Cain and Abel: Given that she's rebelling against Mourne, this is to be expected. She serves as the Cain to Eris's Abel. If she has high bad karma, she goes as far as shooting her just to upset Mourne.
  • Character Development: Arris becomes more and more extreme as the game progresses. If you're aiming for the good karma route, she becomes more openly emotional and less stoic. If you're aiming for the bad karma route, her anger issues begin to consume her and won't hesitate to kill her best friend, her love interest or her half-sister to reach her goals.
  • The Chessmaster: She spends the game manipulating things so that everyone goes where she needs them for her revenge plot.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Unlucky variant. She's crushing on her childhood friend, Cyree and while he does care for her, he is willing to exploit those feelings to get what he wants.
  • Childhood Friends: With Emma and Cyree. It's why their deaths hit her especially hard in some bad endings.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Although she claims that she only feels hate and revenge, she gets jealous when Cyree shows affection for America. She also takes his rejection badly in the bad karma route, acting like a scorned ex.
Is he....patting her head?! Gross. Unpleasant, higly unpleasant. Time to go home.
  • Compulsive Liar: Considering the route she was going down, could you blame her for lying to everyone she ever knew?
  • Deadpan Snarker: She's quite sarcastic and snappy.
  • Did Not Get The Guy: Downplayed, as she's focused on her revenge, but she has feelings for Cyree, who only sees her as a friend. He chooses America in the end.
  • Evil Laugh: Lets out one after launching her attack on the Senate and killing nearly all the opposition party.
  • Expy: Wears black all the time, lies to the people she loves, has poor physical condition, is obsessed with avenging her dead mother and forms a terrorist group to get back at her father. She basically Lelouch Lamperouge without Geass.
  • Generation Xerox: With both parents:
    • Like Genevieve, she's intelligent and great tactician. She's also able to pass for her mom with just a green wig.
    • Ironically, she has a lot of common with Mourne that she'll admit. Just like him, she's done many questionable things while insisting it's "for the greater good". Both also make idiotic decisions when it comes to their loved ones.
  • Genre Savvy: She's more than well-aware she's basically in a standard action game, and frequently pokes fun of this.
This is not anime, Frankie. I can't be shocked at every faggot who discovers my name.
  • Grew a Spine: Somewhat. She's always on the battlefield, but she tended to hang back, give orders and work behind the scenes, largely because she's a terrible fighter but a great tactician. As time goes on, she's seen on the frontlines more and more often, and she even takes out Eureka by herself.
  • Idiot Ball: Has a tendency to make ill-considered decisions when a loved one - particularly Emma and Cyree - is in danger. Considering her history and past trauma, it's hard to blame her for slipping when her emotional wounds are cut open again.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Deep down she wants to enjoy life like a normal person, but is so obsessed with revenge that she knows it's impossible.
  • Lemony Narrator: Sometimes she lapses into this.
  • In-Series Nickname: Arris's is "Gevvie", which is short for her mother's name, Genevieve. She uses this name when she wants to hide her true identity.
  • Master of None: Arris has average firepower and speed and low defense and stamina. Even the game seems to be aware of it, since it recommends the player to activate the robot maids to assist her if she's in a dangerous fight.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • She has this twice after realizing that she endangered Cyree by involving him in her revenge plot. In the second one, she's even Driven to Suicide if she tries to justify herself. If not, she has an Ignored Epiphany, resulting in bad karma.
    • If she chooses not to help Luna with her car, she runs into Liz, who proceeds to chase her, forcing Arris to use the Galick robot in self-defense. Before she dies, she reveals herself to be Emma. Arris realizes that she killed her childhood friend and commits suicide.
    • If you have high good karma, Arris will realize that she's come too far in her revenge, involving innocents and people who were kind to her.
  • Nom de Mom: Goes with her mother's surname, wanting nothing to do with her father.
  • Older Than They Look: As pointed out, Arris is the same age as Liz, Cyree and America. However, due to childhood malnutrition, she looks much younger.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Arris is able to pass for her mother Genevieve with just a green wig and a Freija uniform.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: America absolutely hates Arris and vice-versa because of their feelings towards Cyree, but they don't have any choice but to work together in order to defeat Mourne.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In the good end, she starts acting nicer to her friends and even lets them go off on their own, without her manipulating them.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Pretty much every friendship Arris can develop is destructive in some fashion.
    • Emma copes with her own demons better than she did and she's apalled by how Arris has changed for the worst.
    • Despite her crush on Cyree, she's willing to exploit him for the sake of her revenge.
    • America comes to despise her due to her revenge plot endangering Cyree's life and Arris being horribly aware that he loves America instead of her.
    • Frankie, Gustav and Hex only pretended to be her friends for their own benefit and try to kill her many times.
    • While Luna is caring, she fails to understand how Arris thinks, what motivates her, or how her past has affected her.
    • Post-Character Development, she realizes that any long-term relationship with her is dangerous, and purposely separates herself from all of them after making sure to help rebuild their lives to the best of her ability.
  • Villain Protagonist: Played with but ultimately subverted. Played horrifically straight for the bad karma route, where she sadistically paralyzes Frank, rejects Luna's friendship, murders Eureka, America, and even Eris when they pose no threat to her, and allows the missile to destroy the Presidental residence and surrounding buildings, even if Emma and Cyree die in the process.

    Liz Barret
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emmavd.png
This whole revenge thing, you don't need it. You have things to live for, reasons. I want to be one of them.
A professional assassin and member of SEITEN. After ambushing Arris in the Freija building and fatally injuring her, Emma becomes determined to capture Arris. Afterwards, Arris decides to blackmail her and force her into joining her revenge plan because of her strength. She begrudgingly accepts and becomes her ally.

By the end it's revealed she's Emma Fields, Alicia Fields's daughter. Emma used to be (separatedly) Arris and Cyree's childhood friends until her mysterious disappearence. Turns out she was kidnapped and trained in a military base since she was a child to form part of a secret program of an elite group of assassins. Near the end of the game, she recognizes Arris and pledges her loyatly to her for real. She's finally reunited with her mother and continues to support Arris with her revenge against Mourne.

  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • In Chapter 10 she rescues Arris from Hex and disposes of several guards, robot maids and mechas single-handedly.
    • She's also the one who takes down Gustav and the helicopter Amy was using to escape in the final chapter.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: For some reason, she is capable of performing athletic feats far beyond what normal humans are able to. Eureka's story reveals that this is the result of being experimented as a child and trained to be an elite assassin.
  • Childhood Friends: With Arris and Cyree, though separatedly.
  • Cool Big Sis: Was this towards Arris before her kidnapping. She was very protective towards Arris and constantly looked out for her, especially when other people would bully her or pick on her.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's powerful, she's ruthless, and she's feared.
  • Deuteragonist: The game focuses on her story as much as it does on Arris's rebellion.
  • Defiant to the End: In one bad ending, having been cornered by Arris and with the Galick pointing a gun to her, she intends to fight to the bitter end. She reveals herself to be Emma seconds after the robot obliterates her, much to Arris's horror.
  • Determinator: She will go to any lengths to take targets down, as shown when Arris easily guns down several NNPD grunts, but Liz was the only one who kept going and succesfully cornered her. Arris escaped, albeit with a nasty scar in the eye.
  • He Knows Too Much: It's implied Amy arranged for her to be kidnapped, so she won't tell anyone about the abuse Arris and Genevieve suffered at the hands of Mourne, since it would have revealed the truth about him being drugged on Tryonate.
  • The Heavy: For most of the game, as the most prominent and one of the most dangerous opponents Arris faces in actual combat.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Emma was Arris' best friend and emotional support when she lives with her abusive father, until she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. In present day, Arris finds out that Emma might still be alive, giving her the motivation to keep living. And after Liz is revealed to be Emma, she's still shown to be supportive of Arris.
  • Morality Pet: To Arris. Finding Emma is what keeps her from being completely obsessive with revenge, and after they're reunited, she becomes her voice of reason.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: When she was young, she tried to warn people about the abuse at the Fern household. This got her kidnapped, leaving Amy's plans to go unopposed.
  • The Resenter: Downplayed, but she's shown to resent her mother for never coming to rescue her. Arris calms her down, saying that Alicia never expected that her trusted people would be the ones who took her daughter away.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: Turns out she is Emma Fields, Arris' missing childhood friend.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Dies at the start of Vindictive Drive 2.
  • Undying Loyalty: Pledges her loyalty to Arris after finding out her true identity. Unless you're aiming for the bad karma route, when she won't hesitate to shoot her after the former kills Eris.
  • Walking Spoiler: See all the blanked entries?

    Ophelia and Amaranth
A pair of robot maids in the Hexy bar who Arris eventually takes with her. Ophelia is focused on stealth and jamming alarms, while Amaranth is a pure attacker.
  • Brains and Brawn: Ophelia is the brains who uses her functions to disable alarms and is overall more stealth-oriented, while Amaranth the brawns more suited for combat.
  • Robot Girl: Both of them have the appearance of robot maids.
  • The Speechless: Being robots, neither of them are capable of speech.
  • Utility Party Member: Ophelia is designated as this, as the one who disables alarms and traps, though her basic attack can pack quite a punch.

    Eureka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eurekavd.png
Keep treating me like a monster and I will act like one.
An Hybrid Helper Robot, who escapes the facility she was locked in. Eureka was originally a human modified with mechanical parts to serve as Siege Unit for military purposes. At first she seems cordial, naive and willing to regain her lost humanity. But after she's manipulated by the FREIJA superiors and drugged with Tryonate, she becomes unstable for a while and forced to attack Arris against her will.

Depending on the player's actions, Arris might put her out of her misery, force her to leave and convince her to regain her purpose in life using Genevieve's final words. If Arris manages to gain her trust, Eureka becomes her ally and can live like a normal human by the end of the story.

Arris' Friends

    Luna Herz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lunavd.png
I want my friends to be happy, you deserve better than this. I can tell you're not doing okay, just know that I care about you.

A kindhearted girl who works at Hex's Bar as substitute bartender and part time as receptionist in Freija's commercial building. She's popular in the bar due to her nice personality. Luna is cheerful, caring and thinks the best of people.

Not much is known about her, but she constantly tries to befriend Arris, sensing how lonely she is. They become closer after she saves and heals Arris after her encounter with Frankie. Arris's interactions with Luna have a direct impact in the endings and she might be one of the few people Arris decides to trust and tell her real identity. Depending in how trusting Arris was towards Luna, it'll be a step to get the best ending.

  • All-Loving Heroine: A sweet girl who's very devoted to her friends.
  • Cool Big Sis: She acts as a cool older friend to Arris, always supporting her and giving her advice.
  • Genki Girl: Very excitable and friendly, compared to the smug and composed Hex.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: She thinks it's her duty to reform Arris.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Completely unaware of Arris's dark nature, only seeing her as a troubled girl in need of a helping hand. In the good ending, Arris tells Luna the whole story before turning herself in.
  • Only Sane Man: Unlike the others she has no serious personal or psycological issues, and is overall a pretty chill and likable girl.
  • Nice Girl: In a world with so many flawed and morally questionable people, Luna stands out as one of the most unfailingly kind characters of the series. A Steam trading card notes that it's a miracle that someone like Luna exists in the Crapsack World of the game.
  • Perky Goth: Luna dresses in goth clothing, but she's a kind person. Her room is also cutesy and pink.
  • Samaritan Relationship Starter: While Arris only sees her as an acquitance, their relationship improves when Luna helps her after being horribly injured by Frankie that night. Specifically, it was how she didn't treat it as a big deal, making it clear she did it just because it was the right thing to do.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Luna loves everyone and wants them to get along — yet she also shows a willful — indeed, blind — lack of interest in politics or current events. At any rate, her combination of sweet, friendly, openness with her lack of interest in the larger world gets her mocked by Hex.
  • You Remind Me of X: According to Word of God, Arris warms up to her because she reminds her of her mother. Both were kind women who tried to reform someone with love and compassion (Arris for Luna, Mourne for Genevieve); the only difference was that Genevieve wasn't so lucky.

    Hex Reader
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hexvd.png
Can I tempt you with a drink? If you happen to hear any juicy secrets, I can give you some cash...

The owner of the Hexy Bar and an infamous information broker. She assigns missions to Arris in exchange for gadgets, government information and money. She's also seen flirting with Gustav sometimes. Hex often assists Arris and gives her the helper robots Amaranth and Ophelia.

Despite Arris relying on her, she is aware that Hex is not to be trusted and her only priority is money and nothing else and she might betray her someday. Turns out Arris was right about not trusting Hex, as later in story she later sides with Gustav and betrays Arris by giving her location and sending several of her helper robots to fight against her.

  • Cheshire Cat Grin: She pulls these a lot when she's teasing people or getting ideas for her dealings.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Switching to whichever side entertains her the most, apparently.
  • The Gadfly: She often teases or messes with people in order to get a reaction out of them.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: When she gets bored of serving a particular side, she switches over to the other one at the drop of a hat.
  • Insufferable Genius: For all her unpleasantness, she is genuinely very clever and capable, which she frequently loves touting around.
  • Jerkass: Hex is not a pleasant person. No one really likes her, just finds her useful.
  • Karma Houdini: In all endings, she remains unpunished for her illegal black market dealings, as well as betraying and trying to kill Arris.
  • Knowledge Broker: Arris regularly visits her bar to get knowledge of what goes on in the city. In exchange, Arris usually has to reveal a secret she learned of the criminal underworld.
  • Lack of Empathy: She possesess a calm and easy-going attitude, no matter what the situation. Despite the massacres commited by Freija, SEITEN and Arris, she came off as entirely unconcerned.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Arris notes that she never does anything for truly free and will always expect something in return down the line. She wonders if she's being a puppet playing to invisible strings when she's around her, but her information is too valuable to ignore.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Hex is just an alias. The game files show her real name is Gene Kratena.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Her top priorities throughout the story are money and receiving insteresting information in exchange for more money. Nothing else seems to matter to her. One shouldn't be surprised when she betrays Arris in Chapter 10.

    Frankie (unmarked spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frankievd.png
"I work for Alfred Gerin, right hand of the president. My role is to manipulate activists and protestors into doing irrelevant shit that seems like revolution, but really doesn't amount to anything."

A member of "the Dome", an anti-government group, and Arris' neighbor.

  • Bond Villain Stupidity: After capturing Arris and tying her up, he doesn't bother to remove her gloves which she uses to escape, and also leaves her alone to make a phone call.
I've watched dozens of tutorials on how to escape this kind of situation, tied to a chair. However, none of them were necessary... Because Frankie is stupid as fuck, and he didn't remove my gloves, their bracelets made it easy.
  • False Friend: He poses as an ineffectual cyber-activist friend to Arris and Rektman, but is actually The Mole for the government who manipulates Rektman into doing meaningless "rebellion" and captures Arris when She Knows Too Much.
  • The Mole: He works under Gerin and his job is to direct rebellious individuals towards useless activities.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He calls Arris a freak for not crying when he has her tied up, as he believes that is how a girl is "supposed to act", and has her in his contacts as "flatchested bitch".
  • Villains Want Mercy: He ties up Arris and prepares to hand her over to the government, but when Arris escapes and shoots him, he begs for his life.
Frankie: Please don't kill me! I'm begging you! Gevie please, I'm your friend! It was just too much money!! Please!
Arris/Gevie: What were you saying about girls crying? Ah, this is what you meant. Thanks for teaching me, I feel very informed. [...] (I'm a mere tool to use and discard in his eyes, yet he kneels before me, begging.)

    Rektman
Another member of "the Dome".

    Deputy Chief Gustav Arren
(Gustav is a cop, he "cares" for me way too much - a champion of morals and a white knight.)

"This is Deputy Chief Gustav Arren from the NCPD. You're to cease your criminal activities and surrender immediately!"

A member of the NCPD and a "friend" of Arris.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first he looks like a Cool Old Guy who worries about Arris's wellbeing and tries to reign Hex around. Subverted when it's revealed he's actually a member of Biokernel, sent by Amy to monitor Arris.
  • The Commissioner Gordon: A police officer who is Arris's ally and the only reasonable figure around. Subverted when it's revealed he played this trope straight to gain her trust.
  • False Friend: He is revealed to be working with Biokernel and has been working against Arris and Liz/Emma since the beginning.
  • Final Boss: Of the neutral karma route, trying to stop Emma from reaching Amy.
  • Mentor Archetype: Was the one who trained Liz.
  • Token Good Teammate: Despite being a worker of the corrupt government and involved with SEITEN, he is the only member who actually cares about people's lives, and nearly refuses to order a carpet bombing that Amy Mourne ordered because it could potentially endanger civilians and personnel (but Gerin is able to pressure him into it).
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It's unknown what happens to him after his fight with Emma, though it's implied she killed him.

Cyree's Gang

    Cyree
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyreevd.png
If you always had to sleep on a bed of nails, a bed of stone was comfortable. My dad was much worse. But I learned to live without resentment. I don't think I could ever be free otherwise.

A young man who tried to make a heist with his college friends. The plan quickly goes awry and Cyree and America were forced by Arris into asisting her with her revenge plot, after she saves them from being captured by the police. Turns out he's childhood friends with Arris and briefly supported her emotionally when she was orphaned. In exchange, Arris considers him one of the few people she still cares about and regrets involving him in her revenge plan.

It's revealed he was also childhood friends with Emma and was exploiting Arris's feelings for him by willingly go with her revenge plan in hopes of finding Emma again.

  • Abusive Parents: Bonded with Arris in their youth because both came from troubled homes. In his case, both parents were abusive and after their divorce, Cyree chooses to live with the least awful of the two.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Choose America over Arris because he thought she was more stable and ordinary. By the time of Vindictive Drive 2, he clearly regrets this decision. Not only they were forced to be on the run due to her father's connection to the Tryonate, but it's implied her Clingy Jealous Girl tendencies got worse over the years.
  • Blatant Lies: Claims that he didn't know that Arris and the abused girl who hanged with Emma were the same person. Turns out he knew, he just didn't care to pry about it.
  • Chick Magnet: Both Arris and America have feelings for him. He chooses America.
  • Childhood Friends: With Arris and Emma, though separatedly.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: He's determined to be a hero, even if he has to work as a terrorist. But he's barely decent at fighting and extremely emotional.
  • Good Is Dumb: He's apalled at Arris's pragmatic methods, even when she guns down people who try to kill them. He's also angry when she kills Ross, even after finding out he was working with FREIJA. As Arris points out:
He's intelligent, but he cares for the group, he wouldn't risk their lives. That's his weakness.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: While he was attractive enough to be a Chick Magnet, he has quite let himself go in Vindictive Drive 2.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • He's willing to exploit Arris's feelings for him in order to get enough information to save Emma.
    • Treats Eureka as a freak. He's still horrified if Arris kills her in the bad karma route though.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: He briefly supported Arris after she escaped from her home following her mother’s death. She even states she became cold and cynical when he drifted away. In present day, it’s shown that she still cares about him, but won’t hesitate to use him as an pawn for the sake of her revenge.
  • Morality Pet: To Arris. However this is downplayed, as he's willing to exploit her feelings to get what he wants and she can see right through his sweet words.
  • Nice Guy: While he's not a saint by any means, he does tolerate Arris and America. As a child he took care of an injured Arris and becomes a terrorist in order to find his missing friend Emma.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Him choosing America over Arris left a significant impact on the latter, furthering her fear of intimacy with others.
Arris: Like most good things in my life, it didn't last long. The illusion of affection.
  • Sadistic Choice: After the divorce of his parents, Cyree chose to live with his mother, who was the least abusive of the two. He even compares it to "choose between a bed of nails or a bed of stone".
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Dies at the start of Vindictive Drive 2.

    America
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/americavd.png
We're not your fucking toys! And not once did you ask for our opinions during your little "negotiations"!

Cyree's partner and college classmate. She's hot-tempered, reckless and very clingy towards him. When it comes to him, America is willing to do anything he asks of, even making a heist or joining Arris's cause. She's entirely dedicated to Cyree but is dismissive of everyone else and gets jealous of anyone who'll take Cyree's attention away from her.

Arris hates her because of how unreasonable jealous she is and her own unrequited feelings towards Cyree. The feeling is mutual, but they're willing to work with each other. By the end of the story it's revealed Arris wanted her to join her revenge plan because her father worked in the Tryonate drug that made Mourne insane.

  • Chekhov's Gun: At first it seems that she's a tagalong in Arris's plans. Then it turns out her being recruited wasn't random, as her father was involved in the creation of the Tryonate.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: It's clear she's very possessive towards Cyree and her interactions with Arris are mostly hostile. She's also jealous of Emma, after she finds she's his childhood friend.
America: So, are you this Emma girl Cyree won't shut up about?
    Cyree: I mentioned her once...
  • Only in It for the Money: Ross accuses her of being this, word-for-word, and not actually caring about striking against President Mourne. Her true reasons are less....materialistic.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has red hair and is very brash and impulsive.
  • Flat Character: There's not much to her besides her friendship with Cyree and her clingingly personality.
  • Expy: A pretty obvious one of Asuka Langley Soryu (hair style and colour, general personality, romance with a cowardly boy, relationship with a short-haired girl of a contrasting personality).
  • Jerkass: There's genuinely not much to like about America. She's unpleasant, aggressive, rude and generally shows herself as generally nasty, unlikable person in many ways.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: America absolutely hates Arris and vice-versa because of their feelings towards Cyree, but they don't have any choice but to work together in order to defeat Mourne.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After Arris's fight with Eureka, America states that she reeks of Tryonate. Cyree believes it's one of her usual jabs at Arris, but it's actually her recognizing the drug her father used to work on.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Claims that she replaced Arris in Cyree's life, though this is debatable, as he always saw Arris as a friend, while he clearly has a thing for America.
  • Satellite Character: She revolves around Cyree.
  • Skewed Priorities: America couldn't care less about terrorism or Biokernel, she just wanted to spend time with Cyree. To the point that everytime the gang is in imminent danger, she just bitches about how Arris and Emma will take Cyree away from her.
  • Stalker with a Crush: According to Arris, she's been stalking Cyree for years before joining his terrorist gang.

    Ross
(Ross is a good shooter, his criminal record is not an advantage, dangerous guy.)

"You're just a blogger, this is the first and last thing you'll do against Mourne. I know you're only in it for the money."

A member of Cyree's gang.

  • The Bus Came Back: After disappearing for most of the plot following the second mission, he returns just before the final mission.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the demo he was a stoic thug with a goofy side (see Occidental Otaku below), but this trait isn't mentioned in the full game, possibly to encase how he's a dangerous thug.
  • Occidental Otaku: In the demo, he claimed that he way going to use his part in the heist to buy merchandise of his waifu. America is not amused.
Ross: With all this money....I'll finally bring my waifu to life.
America: Can you stop talking about your damn waifu? She isn't real and she's the worst moeshit ever.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Arris rigs his robot with explosives before he has a chance to hurt the gang.
  • The Mole: After he returns from being captured by Gustav, he acts friendly towards the gang, but Arris suspects him of being this and has to decide whether to take action or trust him. As it turns out, she is correct- Gustav made a deal with him to capture the gang.

    Ralph
(Ralph is an idiot, he has no skills or relevant knowledge, but acts tough. Irrelevant.)

"Keep your distance or I'll fucking stab you."

A member of Cyree's gang.

  • Warmup Boss: To the extent that he could be considered a boss, he is the first major character that Arris has to take down.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He gets very little screentime before Arris is forced to shoot him.

FREIJA

    Charles Mourne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mournevd.png
Arris' father and the head of FREIJA.
  • Abusive Parents: Was a cruel man who regularly beat up Arris and Genevieve, culminating with him killing the latter. Arris' motivation during the story is to kill him and make him suffer. However it's later revealed Amy was constantly drugging him with Tryonate, to make him agressive towards his old family.
  • Archnemesis Dad: His daughter Arris starts her rebellion primarily because of animosity with him.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He is the target of Arris' revenge, but is not related at all to Project Eureka or Biokernel. Rather, it is Amy who is running both and is the one who drugged Charles to turn him abusive in the first place.
  • Good Parents: He's very doting towards his youngest daughter Eris, compared to the crappy way he treated Arris.
  • Idiot Ball: Has a tendency to make ill-considered decisions when a loved one - particularly Amy and Eris - is in danger.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Invokes this about his involvement in Emma's kidnap or the murder of America's father, saying that he had no choice and that it's for the good of the people. Ironically, it's something he has in common with Arris.
  • Love Martyr: He's completely smitten with his second wife, Amy, always acting very lovey-dovey and protective of her. When she reveals her true colors, he's more upset about how she betrayed him than the fact he's about to die. It's debatable if his affection is genuine or a result of the Tryonate.
  • Not Himself: Arrris hesitates to call him abusive in Chapter 1 and it's hinted that he wasn't always bad. As it turns out, he was drugged by Amy in order to act abusive towards his old family.
  • Parental Abandonment: Arris accuses him of this in the final chapter, stating that drugged or not, he still abandoned his daughter and didn't care whether she was alive or dead, starting a new family with Amy instead.
  • Pet the Dog: He financially supported America after the death of her father. However she isn't too grateful, as he was the one who ordered his death to cover up for the failed Tryonate.
  • President Evil: Subverted; initially he is portrayed as the Big Bad who abused Arris and killed her mom, and is leading a Government Conspiracy to wage war on the East and Take Over the World. However, he's actually a decent, if innefective leader, and Amy is the one truly behind everything.
  • Puppet King: He believes himself to be in charge, but it's really his wife Amy who is running everything.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Amy, who drugged him to get rid of Genevieve.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He's popular in the main land.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Heavily abused Arris when she was young. He also shoots Eris in the neutral and good karma routes. In both cases, it's a result of the Tryonate.

First Lady Amy Mourne/Bouzaglo (unmarked spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amyvd.png
Charles's second wife and the president of the Senate.
  • Bad Boss: She shows a total disregard for the lives of her subordinates. When Eureka first rebels against Amy, she orders her soldiers to attack Eureka despite knowing they likely wont survive (and Eureka outright says she is sacrificing lives to protect her lie), then orders a carpet bombing in front of the President's residence despite there being personnel down there. In the main game, when Eureka breaks out again and starts killing the soldiers, Amy orders Gustav not to let them retreat, knowingly sending tons of soldiers to their deaths as a distraction and part of a plan to manipulate Eureka into going back on her side. It's also implied she is the one who really killed her scientists, either through a drugged Eureka or herself, as Eureka denies killing the scientists.
  • Bait the Dog: Does this twice:
    • In the main game, she seems to be Charles' supportive wife who loves him and their daughter. That is, until Arris reveals it was she who drugged Charles and turned him into a monster. When Charles kills Eris, she initally calls him a pig out of anger- then tells him that she drugged him to make him kill Eris so she can have the family fortune to herself, then stabs her husband to death.
    • In the Eureka scenario, she treats the titular Eureka well and seems to actually care about her, breaking her out of Seiten labs and even offering to be her Parental Substitute. She also shows concern for Alfred Gerin when Eureka is rampaging through the labs, later telling Gerin that Eureka is not a "pharmacy" but a child. Then she activates a device on Eureka that attacks her organs and tortures her while cackling about it, referring to her as a pharmacy and a dog, and gleefully erases her memories to turn her into a slave, while mocking Gerin about how she usurped control of Seiten from him.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • In the non-karma bad endings, Arris is Driven to Suicide, presumably allowing Amy's Take Over the World plot to go unopposed.
    • Having neutral karma will give you (as Liz) the choice to fight against Gustav. If you win, Arris, America, Eris and Charles are dead. Cyree and Eureka are gone (because you didn't gain Eureka's trust and killed America, effectively ending Cyree's trust in Arris). And Amy gets away with everything and, using Biokernel, takes over the world.
    • Even worse if you have high bad karma. Knowing that her days are numbered after the wound in her head during her fight with Liz, Arris kills Eris and lets Amy to get away with everything simply to spite Mourne. Arris commits suicide, cursing everyone as the whole town is nuked, killing everyone.
  • Big Bad: The real head of the Government Conspiracy to Take Over the World, who also drugged Charles with Tryonate to make him abusive, making her responsible for Arris' revenge quest.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Despite putting on a front as a supportive wife and mother, she is not only the one responsible for Arris's hellish childhood by stealing Genevieve´s project and constantly drugging Mourne on Tryonate, causing him to become abusive towards Arris and kill Genevieve, but she's the woman behind the plot to Take Over the World with the Biokernel network. She also released Eureka and not only was planning to use her to kill Arris and her companions, but also to kill Mourne and their daughter Eris, in order to have all his fortune to herself.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Subverted multiple times; every time she appears to show affection for someone, it always turns out to be fake. She is a loving wife and mother until she plots to have her husband and daughter killed, cares for Eureka and helps her escape the labs while treating her like a daughter only to subject her to torture and erase her memory, and shows concern for Gerin before she usurps control of Seiten from him and calls him her 'bitch'.
  • Lady Macbeth: A variation in that she drugs her husband to turn him evil rather than just manipulate him, but she uses the drug Tryonate to make him abusive and have him commit whatever evil acts she wants, in addition to scheming behind his back.
  • Gold Digger: She married President Charles for his wealth and power, and in two paths eventually kills him to secure his fortune.
  • Offing the Offspring: By proxy. Initially she planned to have Eureka kill her daughter Eris, but when that failed she used her backup plan- drug the father, Charles, and have him shoot her, which he does. She then kills him, securing her acquisition of the Mourne family fortune. Though in the good karma ending, Eris survives while Amy is taken down.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: By proxy- she drugged Charles, knowing it would cause him to abuse and kill his wife Genevieve, so she could marry him herself and gain access to his fortune.
  • Take Over the World: Her goal is to use Seiten to develop weapons of mass destruction, including human soldiers, the Gaelik mechas, and the Biokernel network, to wage war on the East, killing thousands, and take control of all the world's militaries.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: In the neutral and good karma paths, she stabs Charles to death after she has no more use for him, declaring his fortune to be hers.
  • The Sociopath: She is very good at pretending to be a kind, caring woman who performs acts of genuine love to someone and then betraying them in the most sadistic manner. She desires to wage war on the East and take thousands of lives to Take Over the World, and will happily sacrifice her subordinates as well. Even Gerin calls her a viper.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Was friends with Genevieve, before she conspired to steal her husband and wealth.
  • We Have Reserves: She sends entire squadrons of soldiers after Eureka and orders Gustav not to let them retreat, even as Eureka massacres them, because she wants them to buy her time while she goes to manipulate Eureka.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She and a drugged Charles had Gerin sell his daughter Emma to the military to become a hardened and brainwashed soldier, and she also drugged Charles to make him abuse his daughter Arris and eventually shoot their daughter Eris when her plot to use Eureka to kill them is thwarted.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: In the neutral and good karma paths, she stabs Charles to death after he has already killed their daughter Eris as part of her plan- now that Eris is gone, she just needs him out of the way and his wealth is all hers.

    Senator Alfred Gerin
(Alfred Gerin is President Mourne's best friend. He's the main negotiator of FREIJA's bonds, but also...

A high-ranking member of FREIJA and a powerful senator. Also the original head of Seiten, a secret bio-weapons lab.

  • You're Insane!: Gerin tells Amy Mourne this when learning that Mourne intends to use FREIJA to continue Seiten's projects.
Y-you're insane! FREIJA!? You are fucking insane!

    Dr. Kanon
The head doctor of Seiten in the Eureka scenario.

    Genevieve Fern
Arris's mother and Mourne's first wife. She was murdered during one of his rage fits, motivating Arris to seek revenge against him.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Gave Arris the code for the Galick robot in case of an emergency. When she was 10 years old.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Her death is what turned Arris into the revenge-obsessed wreck she is now.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Arris remembers her fondly and her death is one of her main motivations.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Despite her intelligence, she trusted Amy of all people. Granted, Amy is just that good at manipulating people.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: According to Amy, she thought it was her duty to reform Mourne.
  • Nice Girl: Is thoroughly convinced that even the biggest monster secretly has a heart of gold and was married to Mourne and was friends with Amy.
    • Though in Mourne's case, it's implied he was nicer (if a corrupt and mediocre leader) before Amy altered his brain with the Tryonate.
  • Posthumous Character: Was killed by Charles 12 years ago.

    Alicia Fields
  • Mama Bear: She is determined to find her lost daughter. To the point she kills Gerin in cold blood once Arris reveals he was behind said disappearance.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Calls out Arris when she bombards the Senate, just because those people were allied with Mourne. She's even disgusted when Arris shrugs off their deaths as nuisances and necessary sacrifices.

    Manager
Are you here to buy drugs? Sorry to tell you, but I’m all out...

A manager at the FREIJA headquarters who is confronted by Arris.

Others

    Edu Feinmann
A reporter who appears repeatedly throughout the story.
  • Child Hater: While not quite children, he looks down on teens and young people, declaring them all “stoners” and “hippies” and outright saying in one of his broadcasts that “young people ruin everything”.
  • Jerkass: In just about every appearance, he displays an elitist attitude. Before even showing up personally, he is said during a report on the Atera bank robbery to have called the robbers "drug addict punks".
