    Terra

Terra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/terra_80.png
Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka (Japanese), Xanthe Huynh (English)
Mech: Astoria

The game's protagonist, a Starchild who bears the will of the Earth within her. Terra suffered from amnesia following the disaster known as Gravity Loss. Tormented by the guilt of causing her little sister Luna's death by letting go of her hand during the disaster, Terra now travels aimlessly with her partner Yodaka.

  • Amnesiac Hero: Terra doesn't seem to remember anything prior to the Gravity Loss incident, meaning that she only has about two years worth of memories. Uranus officially diagnoses her with Trauma-Induced Amnesia. She doesn't have amnesia; she is an entirely-new personality that the Will of the Earth created using the comatose body of Luna's sister.
  • Big Sister Bully: The "original" Terra went from a kind, warm figure to a sadistic bully, which is why Luna initially wants to see her dead.
  • Death of Personality: Discussed, with the team wondering if Terra will remain the same person once she regains her memories. Once it's revealed that Terra's current personality was created by the Will of the Earth, Luna finally drops her grudge with the justification that her sister's dead and Terra is a stranger that just happens to look like her...though it's later implied that Luna hadn't figured out how to emotionally deal with the situation yet.
  • Draw Aggro: While Astoria is not a Tank, Terra still benefits from raising her Aggro as Valkyria of Earth increases her attack based on her Aggro.
  • The Fettered: Her self-admitted stubbornness when it comes to putting people that she wants to save ahead of her primary objective clashes with the numerous Pragmatic Heroes that surround her.
  • Foreshadowing: Uranus mentions in her reports to GT Labs HQ that Terra has brain damage, but not the type that would cause amnesia. The more immediate reveal that follows is that Terra was experimented upon by Grayson Order, but the more long term implications are that this damage is the cause of her degenerating health.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: She and Luna are Grayson Order's daughters.
  • Prematurely Grey-Haired: She was born with dark hair, but it changed to its current color as her brain was beginning to fail from the House of Stars' experiments.
  • My Greatest Failure: Terra never got over failing to save Luna during the first Gravity Loss incident. Worse yet, she finds out that Luna is still alive but hates her guts.
  • Secretly Dying: She falls unconscious right as Luna brings her snacks in an attempt to make up; one checkup from Uranus later, she admits that her senses have been coming and going. She hangs on just long enough to defeat Aphrodite, instruct Luna to live on as "Terra", and see Himiko leave in search of ZERO before expiring.
  • Taking the Bullet: She takes a bullet from Little Prince in Luna's place after Luna's attempt to destroy the moon is foiled.
  • Theme Naming: Her unique skills are named "_____ of Earth", since she is the Starchild of Earth.
  • Walking the Earth: Terra and Yodaka aimlessly wandered the Earth between the first and second Gravity Loss incidents before being located by Himiko during the latter. The DLC scene "Terra and Yodaka's Gourmand Road Trip" reveals that she did in an attempt to find Luna.

    Yodaka

Yodaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yodaka.png
Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki (Japanese), Joe Ochman (English)

A robo-assistant Terra built from scrap parts to company her on her travels. Equipped with advanced AI, Yodaka not only supports Terra on her journey, but also acts as a conversation partner. Although he calls Terra "Master," their relationship is not that of master and servant, but rather of equals.

    Himiko

Himiko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/himiko_4.png
Voiced by: Miku Itō (Japanese), Erika Harlacher (English)
Mech: Tenmu -> Original One

A special Starchild who carries the will of the celestial body Himiko. Also known as the First Star. Himiko is the one who unites the Starchildren, destined to throw herself into battle against the Relayers for the fate of the universe. She is just an ordinary person who happens to be an astronomy geek.

  • Deuteragonist: Most of game's personal conflicts revolve around Terra, but Himiko is positioned as the hero of the overall battle between humans and Relayers.
  • Family of Choice: She states that she views the entire crew of the Asterism as family. Her view helps Terra and Luna reconcile, since Terra is technically a different person than Luna's sister.
  • Friendly Sniper: She pilots Sniper-type mecha, but is warm and friendly to others.
  • It's All My Fault: After learning of the depths of suffering that the people around her have gone through thanks to the discovery of Starchildren, she starts to blame herself for being the original Starchild. Terra assures that everything to that point either came down to people exercising their free will or Grayson Order's schemes.
  • The Leader: As the First Star, she is considered the de-facto leader of the Starchildren.
  • Poor Communication Kills: She didn't tell her childhood friend Nile that she was going to be a pilot, so Nile joined the military and became a Satellite to protect her which eventually lands them on opposing sides.
  • Sensor Character: As the first Starchild, Himiko has the ability to sense other Starchildren.

    Sun

Sun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sun_647.png
Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese), Linsay Rousseau (English)
Mech: Amaterasu

A Starchild with the will of the Sun inside her. Former ace pilot of the United Earth Government Armed Forces. Because of her title and background, she is a reliable platoon leader who is in charge of commanding and guiding her subordinates in battle against the Relayers.

  • Ace Pilot: She was a military ace before joining the Asterism.
  • Anti-Debuff: Sun has improved versions of the Tank class's status-nullifying skills that boost her stats on top their usual effects, making her a good fit for the Breakdown-inflicting Dark Side weapons. "Blessing of the Sun" purifies adjacent allies.
  • Discard and Draw: She apparently piloted a different class of mecha with the military, as it's mentioned in the first encounter with her former subordinates that her usage of a Tank-type mecha is new to them.
  • Draw Aggro: "Aggro Control" is a passive that automatically adjust Sun's aggro to be higher than that of any adjacent allies.
  • Hidden Depths: Sun is apparently much more girlish than she lets on. According to Eight, she is known for crying into stuffed animals whenever her allies suffer injuries.

    Mercury

Mercury

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mercury_01.png
Voiced by: Mariko Honda (Japanese), Judy Alice Lee (English)
Mech: Petasos

A Starchild with the will of Mercury inside her. Serious by nature, she doesn't show her emotions very often. She is often misunderstood by those around her as someone who doesn't get along with others, but she is a hard worker who trains rigorously in secret to replace her sister, who carried Mercury's will before her.

  • Badass Bookworm: Mercury is a pilot who loves reading. She spends her free time reading books in her Stellar Gear, partially because her mecha cancels noise and partially because her room is completely covered in books.
  • Combat Medic: Her heals have boosted effectiveness.
  • Fangirl: She unsuccessfully attempts to hide her knowledge of Magical Girl anime when Media mentions that she was a voice actor in one.
  • Friendless Background: Mercury is teased by Sun and Himiko for her inability to make friends. Mercury's colleagues push for her to make friends with Terra, which Mercury reluctantly accepts in true Tsundere fashion.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Her sister Mizuno looks just like her, except with short hair and no glasses.

    Uranus

Uranus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uranus_3.png
Voiced by: Kumi Sakuma (Japanese), Caitlyn Elizabeth (English)
Mech: Herschel

A Starchild who possesses the will of Uranus. In order to pay off her debts, she chose to become a doctor aboard the Asterism. Although she is notoriously money-hungry and has little self-control, her medical skills are top-notch. In reality, though, she is the Dark Doctor.

  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Milky Way lets everyone know that Uranus enjoys drinking grape juice with her because Uranus is a paperweight when it comes to actual liquor.
  • Combat Medic: She is the Asterism's medic, but also a more-than-capable pilot.
  • Counter-Attack: "Dark Doctor's Rage" gives her a 50% damage bonus on all of her counterattacks.
  • Life Drain: "Dark Doctor's Skill" lets Uranus recover 20% of any damage she deals.
  • Money Fetish: She is obsessed with making money, in no small part due to her numerous debts.
  • Sweet Tooth: She is often seen with a lollipop in her mouth.

    Milky Way

Milky Way (Amanogawa)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amanogawa.png
Voiced by: Hitomi Yoshida (Japanese), Katy Bentz (English)
Mech: Galaxy Star

A Starchild who carries the will of the Milky Way Galaxy. She is the daughter of the world's leading shipbuilder, Milky Way Shipbuilding. On the outside, Milky Way is an elegant young woman who bears the obligations of her birthright, but deep down, she is just a girl who loves pop culture.

  • Dub Name Change: "Amanogawa" is an Odd Name Out in the Japanese version, being a distinctly Japanese name when most of the Starchildren use the English names of the celestial bodies that they carry the will of.note  The English version corrects this, changing her name to Milky Way.
  • Gamer Chick: She is revealed to be a high-level gamer that nearly rivals Mars, and spends every moment that isn't taken by her other obligations in her room with video games.
  • Hidden Depths: As her profile states, she keeps up appearances as an Ojou but her true nature isn't much different than any other young adult, including being an avid gamer.
  • Precision F-Strike: She loses her composure and calls Mars a "little shit" upon their first meeting, which began with Mars calling her a grandma and asking if her brains leaked down into her boobs. Mercury has to remind her to watch her language.
  • Support Party Member: Despite Galaxy Star's typing as a Gravity-focused Assault unit, Milky Way's unique skills focus on boosting the effects of healing items and supporting teammates.
  • Trademark Favorite Drink: Milky Way loves grape juice.

    Halley

Halley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/halley.png
Voiced by: Ryo Kikuchi (Japanese), Khoi Dao (English)
Mech: Comet

A Starchild who possesses the will of Halley's Comet, he is a member of GT Lab's Intelligence Bureau and Director Vanegar's right-hand man. He works on the ground with Jupiter and Saturn, and is responsible for backing up the Asterism and defending GT Lab's headquarters. With the power of Halley's Comet, he is able to tell fortunes.

  • Fortune Teller: Part of his abilities as a Starchild apparently include the ability to sense omens, which he summarizes as fortune-telling.
  • Status Effects: Halley's skills allow him to inflict a variety of status effects on enemies.
  • We Have Reserves: He has no qualms about killing Luna when she tries to make off with Selene because the moon would just choose another host upon her death.

    Jupiter

Jupiter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jupiter_7.png
Voiced by: Yūto Suzuki (Japanese), Mark Whitten (English)
Mech: Feretrius

A Starchild who possesses the will of Jupiter. He is a test pilot for a new weapon belonging to the Engineering Department of the Gravity Technology Development Organization, or GT Lab. He is the older brother of Saturn, a former mercenary who once worked for Xoth Corporation. Jupiter has the ability to discern the true identity of others and possesses a bold and accurate intellect, as well as a severe sister complex.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He is fiercely protective of his sister Saturn.
  • In-Series Nickname: Saturn refers to him as Jupy.
  • Mighty Glacier: He is a Tank-type unit that can cast Starsoul on himself and activate a Healing Factor while it is active. He also has an even better version of Aggro Guard named "Guardian's Knowledge" that increases his DEF and G-DEF relative to his aggro.
  • Revenge: He and Saturn are two of the ATLAS chairman's illegitimate children, discarded in search of a proper heir which pisses him off. This allows him to see eye-to-eye with Luna, who's driven by her own quest for revenge. He ultimately chooses not to act on it, because watching the Chairman's chosen heir Mintaka throw the offer back in his face is satisfaction enough.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Jupiter's fiery temper is matched by his foul mouth, easily having the most swear-heavy dialogue in the game until Mars is introduced.

    Saturn

Saturn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saturn_4.png
Voiced by: Moa Tsukino (Japanese), Christie Cate (English)
Mech: Quadriga

A Starchild who possesses the will of Saturn. She is a test pilot for a new weapon belonging to the Engineering Department of the Gravity Technology Development Organization, or GT Lab. The younger sister of Jupiter, Saturn is shy and reserved — a typical homebody whose hobbies include games, manga, and surfing the net.

  • Gamer Chick: She is seen playing video games with her peers and is compatible with the Gaming Protector armor alongside those two and Alnitak.
  • Genre Savvy: When Halley reasons that Luna won't be able to figure out how to operate Selene, Saturn remarks that his statement is "a flag". Sure enough, Luna figures it out in seconds.
  • Lethal Chef: Don't let her or Mintaka anywhere near a kitchen, as their concoctions digust Alnitak and flat-out send Jupiter to sickbay.
  • Nice Girl: Saturn is a sweet and soft-spoken, if somewhat ditzy, young woman. This contrasts with her Hot-Blooded brother.
  • No-Sell: "Emo Hacker's Resolve" allows her to give one ally "Perfect Evasion", which will guarantee that they evade the next attack against them.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is incredibly shy and soft spoken in the Japanese version; this aspect of her character is heavily downplayed in the English dub.
  • Status Effects: She focuses on stat debufs, with her skills allowing her to increase the range, area, and effectiveness of her debuffs.

    Pluto

Pluto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pluto_3.png
Voiced by: Asami Sanada (Japanese), Zach Aguilar (English)
Mech: Tenmu Asuka

A Starchild who possesses the will of Pluto. As the consciousness of a star typically resides inside the mind of a living organism, his awakening proves that AI, too, are sentient.

  • Benevolent A.I.: Pluto is not a flesh-and-blood human, but rather the computer systems for the Asterism given life.
  • Mission Control: He helps to coordinate things with the rest of the team alongside Gillian and Media. This doesn't stop him from taking the field in the final missions.
  • The Smart Guy: Naturally, being a computer system, he serves as the brains of the Starchildren.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: As stated in his official description, that fact that he is a Starchild proves that sufficiently-advanced AI counts as a sentient being to the stars. Luna at one point asks him if he thinks Mercurius has a heart, which he guesses is the case.

    Mars

Mars

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mars_75.png
Voiced by: Hina Kino (Japanese), Hailey Hayes (English)
Mech: Neo Mars

A Starchild with the will of Mars inside her. Daughter of Gillian, captain of the experimental supergravity vessel Asterism, and a world-famous professional e-sports player. Although she is the youngest on the team, her father taught her how to control the vessel via video games, and thus her piloting skills are quite impressive.

  • Anti-Debuff: "Intercept" grants her immunity to Overheat and Virus.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She is explicitly stated to be the youngest member of the team.
  • Gamer Chick: She is a competitive gamer and her speech is peppered with gamer jargon, leaving the mechanics team baffled as to what she means when she asks for "a Gear that can tank cheap specials" and prioritizes "K/D ratio" over positioning. She spouts off all manner of streamer buzzwords during her first mission, including begging everyone to "like, comment, and subscribe".
  • In the Blood: Akeboshi's response to Mars' jargon-laden request is to build her mecha the same way that her father's was built, because in the end they have almost identical tendencies as a pilot.
  • In the Hood: She wears a hoodie in her street clothes, with the hood pulled over her head.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: She competes with Jupiter for the dirtiest, sweariest mouth in the game. "Eat my ass!" is practically her Catchphrase.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: She is literally referred to as such by Himiko in the Asterism Log "Neo Mars", when she leaps to battle the Relayers in the orbit of planet Mars ahead of everyone else.
  • Reduce Aggro: "MPK" allows her to pass some of her aggro to an ally. Warp+ also reduces her aggro.
  • Teleportation She can teleport to any space, but at the cost of inflicting Breakdown on herself.

    Captain Gillian

Captain Bellnix G. Gillian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gillian_8.png
Voiced by: Yoji Ueda (Japanese), Bill Rogers (English)

Captain of the experimental supergravity vessel Asterism. He is a fierce war veteran who once worked for the United Earth Government Armed Forces, and his skill as a Commander — backed up by a wealth of experience on the battlefield — has earned him the admiration not only of the bridge crew, but also of the pilots and mechanics.

  • The Captain: He heads the Asterism and is effectively the Starchildren's boss on the battlefield.
  • Career-Ending Injury: He suffered a major injury that largely cost him the use of his left arm and ended his tenure in the military.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: When the crew of the Asterism chews him out for his disrespectful daughter, Terra inadvertently delivers the knockout blow by trying to assure him that "at least [her] father is worse". Cue a Heroic BSoD, forcing Himiko to take charge for the next mission.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He gets called out by Uranus and Milky Way for how Mars turned out. When he responds that she was left with her mother and implies that her behavior could have been picked up from that, nearly the entire crew makes him out to be a deadbeat dad.

    Media

Media Caduceus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/media_5.png
Voiced by: Ayano Yamamoto (Japanese), Erin Ebers (English)

A communications officer on the experimental supergravity vessel Asterism. She herself is neither Starchild nor soldier, but an ordinary civilian.

  • Bridge Bunny: She serves as the operator of the Asterism.
  • Hidden Depths: Before becoming an operator, she worked as a voice actress.

    Venus

Venus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/venus_09.png
Voiced by: Arisa Noto (Japanese), Jenny Yokobori (English)
Mech: Amatsu-Mikaboshi

A Starchild who harbors the will of Venus. She is a skilled mechanic who works in the maintenance department of the experimental supergravity vessel, Asterism. Although she is a Starchild, she supports the pilots as a mechanic rather than in actual combat.

A Starchild who harbors the will of Venus. She is a mechanic for the Asterism, but with the permission of her grandfather, Genjiro Akeboshi, she joins the front lines as a Starchild. She has tuned her Stellar Gear in a unique way, and pilots just as well as the other Starchildren.

  • Combat Medic: Fittingly enough for a mechanic in a Mecha game, her gameplan revolves around healing others. Two of her unique Skills are AOE heals that simultaneously remove debuffs and status effects respectively. She also learns passives that expand both the targeting range and targeting size of her heals, as well as one that heals adjacent allies' SP after she acts.
  • Foreshadowing: Some of her optional interactions see her musing over her inability to help on the battlefield, showing that it bothers her well before she personally gets involved in the Jupiter mission and subsequently becomes a pilot.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Zigzagged. She's normally seen with goggles on her head except when she mans the Shop, suggesting that it's used for her mechanics work. Except she wears her goggles while she's piloting too, which makes no sense.
  • Wrench Wench: Venus is a Starchild, but uses her talents to repair and upgrade the Stellar Gears instead of directly fighting. That is, until her grandfather finally allows her to pilot.

    Issac

Director of Defense Isaac

Voiced by: Takehiro Hasu (Japanese), Billy Kametz (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isaac_64.png
Director of Defense within the Gravity Technology Development Organization (GT Lab), a dependable man who is responsible for its overall management. He is a workaholic and often sleeps at the head office, for which Neil occasionally reprimands him. He is popular with the female staff, but he hardly notices.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He has a number of female fans but is seemingly clueless to all of them.
  • Married to the Job: He is obsessed with his job to the point wear he forgets to bathe, which he gets called out for by Vanegar.

United Earth Government Armed Forces

    Grayson

United Earth Government Armed Forces Director Grayson Order (Greson)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/greson.png
Voiced by: Hiroyuki Takanaka (Japanese), Keith Silverstein (English)

Secretary of the United Earth Government Armed Forces, Grayson is known as a warmonger within the military whose policy is relying only on human might to defend Earth. The 404th Special Satellite Force, which consists of Satellites (artificial Starchildren), is under Grayson's direct command. His research into Satellites is ongoing.

  • Abusive Parents: He has no qualms about running experiments on his own children, not to mention treating Luna like she is garbage even outside of that.
  • Government Conspiracy: He heads the Genesis Organization, an group within the Earth government that has shaped human history and has significant pull.
  • Knight Templar: He thinks he doing what needs to be done to defeat the Relayers while conducting harrowing, highly-unethical experiments on soldiers and children, including his own daughters.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He gets offed by Luna, his own daughter who he treated like defective garbage, as Terra decides that she doesn't want to go along with his "Second Earth" plan after all.
  • The Needs of the Many: He sees the lives that he has destroyed as a small price to pay to protect the Earth from the Relayers, be it the Satellite plan to create Super Soldiers, the Mercurius plan powered by Mizuno, or the Second Earth plan powered by Terra.

    Little Prince

Little Prince (Hoshino Oji)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hoshino_oji.png
Voiced by: Jun Osuka (Japanese), Andrew Russell (English)
Mech: Quasar Assault -> Prince Star

A sergeant major at the United Earth Government Armed Forces' lunar base. After surviving an attack on a lunar colony by the Relayers and Luna, he meets the Observer and learns of the Relayers' threat.

  • Always Accurate Attack: "Blade of Vengeance" always hits, and the opponent cannot counterattack.
  • Critical Status Buff: "Madness of Vengeance" gives him a whopping 300% critical rate boost while under 25% HP.
  • Dub Name Change: Like Milky Way, his name was changed from Hoshino Oji to the less-overtly-Japanese "Little Prince".
  • Faking the Dead: He was officially court-martialed and executed for his role in stopping Mercurius, but it is arranged for him to become the "Observer" that accompanies the Asterism to Mars.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Little Prince hates the Starchildren, especially Luna who wipes out his initial squad at the start of the game. He mellows out on most of them, especially when he discovers that his crush Mizuno was a Starchild.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: He commits treason to help the Asterism stop Mercurius because it's powered by his friend Mizuno.
  • Sole Survivor: He was the only survivor of his original squad, which led to his hate of Starchildren and transfer to the 404th.

    Eight

Eight / Neptune

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eight_8.png
Voiced by: Nanaka Suwa (Japanese), Kayli Mills (English)
Mech: Quasar Assault -> Quasar II Assault -> Trident

A member of the United Earth Government's 404th Special Satellite Force, she is an enhanced human who was found to have an aptitude for manipulating GY particles, and thus artificially granted the abilities of a Starchild. She was Sun's subordinate before Sun was assigned to special operations.

Exposed to dire straits during a battle, Eight subsequently awakened as a Starchild imbued with the will of Neptune, as per Little Prince's wishes. She joins the front lines as a pilot of the Asterism, while suffering from side effects as a former Satellite.

  • Always Accurate Attack: "Obstinate Girl's Swing" always hits.
  • Dual Wielding: She gains a bonus for wielding Two-Handed Swords, the standard weapon of Assault units.
  • Meaningful Rename: Upon her Heel–Face Turn, she inherits Neptune's will, becoming the final Starchild that joins the party.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: She catches Nile agonizing over her relationship with Himiko and, right as Nile silently begins to consider defecting to the Asterism, begs her not to go because Nile is all she has left.
  • Revenge: She is driven by a desire to avenge Little Prince's fate following the Mercurius incident. Unsurprisingly, she switches sides once she finally realizes that he's alive.
  • Sanity Slippage: She becomes increasingly-unhinged as the game goes on, between the treatment that gives her powers as a Satellite and the presumed death of her commanding officer Little Prince.

    Nile

Nile / Sirius

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nile_2.png
Voiced by: Ayumi Takeishi (Japanese), Kylie Brown (English)
Mech: Quasar Assault -> Quasar II Assault -> Dog Star

Belongs to the United Earth Government's 404th Special Satellite Force. Himiko's childhood friend. Her ability to manipulate GY particles was discovered in an aptitude test conducted secretly by the United Earth Government Armed Forces, and she was scouted in order to help shoulder Himiko's burden.

Following the advice of Dark Walker and Alnilam, Nile is reunited with Himiko. After exchanging words with Himiko and reaching a mutual understanding, Sirius awakens as a Starchild, imbued with the will of the star Sirius. She then decides to fight alongside Himiko as a pilot of the Asterism.

  • Damage Over Time: Her skills involve playing around with "Breakdown" status. Possibilities includes adding Breakdown, removing it, gaining more damage while afflicted with it, and gaining a power boost without it but dying instantly if Breakdown damage is taken.
  • Fighting Your Friend: She and Himiko were close friends, but find themselves on opposite sides which distresses both parties.
  • Foreshadowing: One flashback features Nile and Himiko stargazing and pointing out the star of Sirius. Three guesses on which star decides to pass their will onto Nile.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After fighting it out with Himiko, she ponders joining the Asterism, and eventually does so with the encouragement of Dark Walker and the help of Alnilam.
  • Meaningful Rename: After reconciling with Himiko, her Starchild powers awake and she becomes Sirius. Himiko still refers to her as Nile, though.
  • Nanomachines: Manifests itself as a passive skill that causes her to recover 20% HP after taking her turn.
  • The Power of Friendship: Bond:Himiko causes her and Himiko to recover HP each turn if they're both deployed.
  • Super-Soldier: She is willing to go along with becoming a Satellite because she wants to protect Himiko.

    Azur

Azur (Azul)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azul_4.png
Voiced by: Moa Tsukino (Japanese), Michelle Marie (English)
Mech: Quasar Sniper -> Quasar II Sniper -> Lapis

A member of the United Earth Government's 404th Special Satellite Force. She is a new member of the Relayer Army, which the military is secretly promoting, and is Nile and Eight's junior. Her cute appearance and hard-working personality make her a beloved member of the 404th.

  • Born Lucky:
    • She has a ridiculously high luck stat and some of her abilities include giving the entire party a random stat boost and having a random chance of boosting all of her stats by one rank.
    • In the Asterism Expedition Log "Luna and Azur", she takes a hit directly to her cockpit and survives with only a minor concussion to show for it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Luna accuses her of this, stating that every squad has at least one dumb person like her.
  • Luck-Based Mission: Roulette deals 100 damage multiplied by anywhere from 25% to 200%. "Lucky Girl" guarantees that it will never be less than 100%.
  • Money Multiplier: "Fortune" increases the entire army's SG gain by 50%.
  • Odd Name Out: She is the only member of the 404th that doesn't become a Starchild.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Her name is Azur in the English version but Azul on the Japanese website. Given that her Asterism mecha is named "Lapis", Azur can probably be chalked up to "Blind Idiot" Translation.

    Venera

Venera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/venera.png
Voiced by: Erika Yoshizumi (Japanese), Kaitlyn Robrock (English)
Mech: Quasar Assault

A member of the United Earth Government's 404th Special Satellite Force. She is an imposing figure who taunts Little Prince by calling him the "new Commander Sun". Because of her headstrong personality, she and Eight get along well.

    Mizuno (Unmarked Spoilers)

Mizuno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mizuno_0.png
Voiced by: Haruka Okaki (Japanese), Megan Hensley (English)

Mercury's elder sister and a contemporary of Little Prince in the United Earth Government Armed Forces. Formerly a Starchild, Mizuno was trapped by Director Grayson and subsequently turned into an organic component of Mercurius.

  • Legacy Character: Mizuno was the previous Mercury, with the planet's will choosing her sister after Mizuno's presumed death.
  • Posthumous Character: She is only seen via flashbacks and is thought to have died well before the start of the game. Subverted in that she is alive and powering Mercurius, even though she doesn't have any scenes after being rescued.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Her sister Mercury looks just like her, except with long hair and glasses.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Very little is said about Mizuno once she is recovered from Mercurius.

ATLAS Corp

    Mintaka

Mintaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mintaka.png
Voiced by: Ayano Yamamoto (Japanese), Amber Lee Connors (English)
Mech: Al-Jauza

A Starchild with the will of Mintaka inside her, she is the captain of ATLAS's space pirate squadron, the Star Council. One of the Chairman ATLAS's many (illegitimate) children, Mintaka is among the candidates to succeed him.

  • Ambiguously Gay: Mintaka is implied to have a crush on Uranus. She seemingly tries to win Uranus over with food at the end of the DLC story "Space Gourmet (Star Council Edition)", only to leave as a blushing mess when Uranus suggests that Mintaka's in love.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Mintaka ends her first encounter with the Asterism pilots when she discovers that Uranus saved her life during the Battle of Vesta. Uranus later convinces her, with the promise of clearing her medical debt, to become a third party in a skirmish between the Earth military and the Relayers so that Observer and Himiko can rescue Terra in the confusion.
  • Lethal Chef: Don't let her or Saturn anywhere near a kitchen, as their concoctions digust Alnitak and flat-out send Jupiter to sickbay.
  • Love Triangle: She is the unwilling center of one between Alnilam and Alnitak, with both of them declaring her to be their future wife.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Between the fact that the Star Council are ultimately mercenaries and the fact that Mintaka owes Uranus her life, she has the least hostile relationship with the Asterism among non-GT Labs pilots. This ultimately leads to GT Labs commissioning ATLAS for the investigation into Mars and the Star Council joining the party.
  • Reduce Aggro: Holy Warrior's Solitude reduces her Aggro if she is not adjacent to anyone. This combos nicely with Holy Warrior's Emblem, which gives her ATK/G-ATK/TEC bonuses for keeping low Aggro.
  • Space Pirate: She poses as a pirate while actually being the heir to ATLAS Corp. She uses the charade to attempt to steal GT Labs tech.

    Alnilam

Voiced by: Akane Kohinata (Japanese), Justine Huxley (English)
Mech: Epsilon

A Starchild with the will of Alnilam inside her, Alnilam is the vice-president (vice-captain) of the Star Council, ATLAS's space pirate squadron. She loves Mintaka more than anything and is always there for her, both on and off the battlefield.

  • Critical Status Buff: Vice-Captain's Willpower increases her DEF by 20% whenever she's at less than half health.
  • Draw Aggro: Not only can she increase her own aggro, she can cast Reduce Aggro on nearby allies with skills such as Vice-Captain's Concern.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Lampshaded in a DLC chapter; Alnilam admits that Mintaka probably sees herself and Alnitak as siblings rather than potential lovers.
  • In-Series Nickname: Her name is shortened to Lam by the other Star Pirates.
  • Mighty Glacier: Epsilon is the only Tank-type unit in the game that is built toward utilizing Gravity weapons.
  • The Mole: She is actually a spy sent by Xoth to infiltrate ATLAS, and betrays the Asterism in front of the Earth military... only to immediately reveal that she was on their side all along by luring Xoth mecha into the battlefield to be salvaged for resources.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: She only has eyes for Mintaka and aims to be her future wife.

    Alnitak

Mech: Zeta

A Starchild with the will of Alnitak inside him, he is the secretary, treasurer, general affairs, and public relations officer of the Star Council, ATLAS's space pirate squadron. He has a crush on his childhood friend, Mintaka, and is working hard to improve his housekeeping skills in order to win her over.

  • Action Bomb: Alnitak has two passive skills that allow him to equip his decoys with traps that activate whenever they are destroyed. One of them inflicts ATK/G-ATK debuffs while the other deals direct damage, and both effects can be active at once.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He tries to position himself as Mintaka's future husband, but she's not interested.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Chairman Atlas tries to tempt Alnitak to return Mintaka by offering an Arranged Marriage with her. Tak turns him down, stating that he wants to marry her but only if she legitimately loves him.
  • In-Series Nickname: His name is shortened to Tak by the other Star Pirates.
  • The One Guy: Both among the Star Council, who are Two Girls and a Guy, and among the "gamers" of the Asterism, who consist of himself and three Gamer Chicks.

Relayers

    Dark Knight

Dark Knight

Voiced by: Shunpei Fukuma (Japanese), Ben Lepley (English)
Mech: Dark Fortress

A Master Relayer who faithfully serves the God Relayer. Though polite in manner and demeanor, he is cold-hearted and will not hesitate to eliminate anyone who disobeys the God Relayer. He doesn't typically care about the destruction of celestial bodies, but he seems to have a special connection to the planet Mars.

  • Character Check: In case the Mars arc portrayed him in too sympathetic of a light, he offs Dark Walker right after she helps Nile to prove that he is still a dangerous villain, just one with a code of honor.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He was fascinated by the fact that the Ancient Ones built graves on Mars for both their own and Relayer casualties. One of his comrades were buried there, so he resolved to make Mars the last planet to meet its end in the galaxy. However, Dark Lord has other plans, which causes him to briefly ally with Mars (the Starchild) and the Asterism to save the planet.
  • Graceful Loser: After losing to the Asterism, he merely asks Mars to etch his name on the tombstones on planet Mars and to remember that he existed.

    Dark Walker

Mech: Dark Zeppelin

A Master Relayer who is working in secret to revive Aphrodite. Though she appears to be a young girl, she is actually over 100 million years old. Her values differ from those of the other Master Relayers, and she truly appreciates the stars' glimmering beauty.

  • Ambiguous Situation: In the Asterism Logs/Wormhole Stories timeline, Dark Walker apparently survived the encounter with Dark Knight and helps the heroes escape Hermes' trap. It is unknown whether or not this also applies to the canon timeline.
  • But Now I Must Go: She leaves the Asterism at the end of the Mars arc, because she doesn't want her newfound friends to get caught up in whatever vengeance Dark Knight has in store for her.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Between her unusual friendship with Luna and Himiko's suggestion of taking up stargazing, she finds reason to stay with the humans and joins them aboard the Asterism. She even helps Nile reconcile with Himiko and thinks about how to live with humans long-term before Dark Knight delivers her punishment for swapping sides.
  • Hidden Buxom: Implied in a DLC story, where Dark Walker takes off her clothes to enter a hot spring and Terra has to tell Himiko to stop staring.
  • Not Quite Dead: She somehow survives the final encounter with the Asterism on the moon despite her Gear being destroyed.
  • Odd Friendship: Despite Luna and Dark Walker being a human and Relayer respectively, they find enough commonality in their urge for destruction to form a bond, resulting in Dark Walker defecting from the Relayers and participating in Luna's plan.
  • Older Than They Look: Dark Walker has the appearance of a young girl but is actually 100 million years old.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Dark Walker wants to destroy everything in an attempt to stave off a feeling of emptiness, eventually admitting that she doesn't care about the God Relayer. Her desire does align with Luna's Roaring Rampage of Revenge though, allowing them to form a bond.

Mech: Dark Noah

A Master Relayer and leader of Elysium, a widespread apocalyptic cult on Mars. She is planning to lead humanity to paradise ("Elysium") by triggering a Gravity Loss event on Earth and Mars.

  • Apocalypse Cult: She starts a religion on Mars named the Sect of Elysée, which glorifies the Gravity Loss events as a way of reaching heaven.
  • Taking You with Me: After being defeated in combat, she decides to self-destruct to take the solar system down with her. The heroes get around this by ending her life, having Yodaka take command of Dark Noah, and then warping it far away from humanity.

    Aphrodite (Unmarked Spoilers)

Aphrodite

Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese), Elizabeth Maxwell (English)
Mech: Omega Ignis

One of the 12 God Relayers sealed within the ancient ruins hidden inside the Moon. She is the one who created the human race on Earth. Believing that the existence of Starchildren and Stellar Gear is a rebellion against her, she decides to destroy the human race. To do so, she plans to break the seal imprisoning her.

  • Final Boss: She is the last boss of the Main Story, being fought in Part 41.
  • Love Makes You Evil: The fact that the Ancient Ones used the remains of her lover Adonis to seal her on the moon, combined with mankind turning against her, leads her to attempt to destroy humanity and start over again.
  • Physical God: The title of "God Relayer" isn't just for show; she birthed humankind, effortlessly shrugs off an attempt to encase her in a black hole, and very nearly insta-kills Luna.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She has crimson-red eyes and wants to reboot humankind.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: She was sealed on the Moon 100 million years ago. The Relayers aim for most of the game is her revival, which succeeds once Eight awakens as Neptune.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: She wears a red dress that exposes her back, though it can only partially be seen in her portraits.
  • We Can Rule Together: She asks Terra to join her, which Terra naturally declines.
  • You Remind Me of X: She mentions that Terra, gender and race aside, reminds her of her lost lover.

Others

    Luna

Luna

Voiced by: Moe Toyota (Japanese), Rhianna DeVries (English)
Mech: Original One -> Selene

A Starchild who possesses the will of the Moon. Despite being a Starchild, she works with the enemy Relayer forces to take revenge on humanity and steal the Original One.

A Starchild with the will of the moon. After a decisive battle on the moon, she was taken to the Asterism, but managed to escape with Observer's help. With the Stellar Gear she stole on that occasion, she fights alone to free her friends from the House of Stars held captive by Mercurius. She was trapped in this difficult battle, but Terra rescued her.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: She and Terra were conceived by Grayson and his lover for the sole purpose of experimentation and were dumped into the House of Stars. Luna felt like — and was treated like — an absolute failure at everything. While Terra originally helped to keep her head above water and served as a beacon of hope for everyone, Terra slowly but surely turned into a major Big Sister Bully. The experimentation became increasingly intense, Luna's peers began to physically break down, and her attempt to regain favor with Terra ended up in the garbage with a bucket of cold water over her head in snowy weather for her troubles. Terra goes comatose, but miraculously wakes up some time later and leads Luna outside — in time for the Gravity Loss incident. No wonder she's on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge and doesn't particularly mind if it kills her.
  • Discard and Draw: She starts out by stealing the Original One, a Sniper unit. When the Original One is taken back, she steals Selene, a Scout unit.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Subverted. She wears her hair in pigtails but is a foul-mouthed Jerkass who gives little thought to murdering people to accomplish her goals.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: She and Terra are Grayson Order's daughters.
  • Non-Indicative Name: In the later Asterism Logs, it is noted by that cast that it is almost unheard of for a moon to carry a will. She might actually carry the will of Tia, a planet that was destroyed in the battle between the Ancient Aliens and the Relayers and used to seal Aphrodite.
  • The Power of Family: She has two skills that rely on Terra: "Bond: Terra" heals both sisters if they are both deployed, while "Thoughts on Terra" grants Terra Starsoul.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: She absolutely hates Grayson for his insane quest to create artificial Starchildren and the atrocities that he put his test subjects, including his own daughters, through; this drives most of her actions. Her sister Terra also becomes a target for her wrath when she finds out that Terra is alive. She makes up with Terra but succeeds in offing her father.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: She puts on an Asterism uniform once she's finally accepted Terra as her sister and rushes out in Selene to protect her.
  • Spoiler Cover: The official art for Relayer Advanced depicts Luna in an Asterism uniform, spoiling that reveal.
  • Tsundere: She does occasionally drop her sour demeanor and tease a sweeter side, before quickly snapping back to normal. After she and Terra battle on the moon, she falls deeply into this trope whenever they interact.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: While she absolutely despises Terra and Grayson Order and does everything in her power to kill each of them regardless of the collateral damage required, she also wants to kill the God Relayer or at least toss them somewhere where they can't threaten humankind. Her plot to use the military's drives to suck the moon into a black hole was designed to accomplish all three while also allowing herself to die.
  • Wham Line: She reveals to Mars and Terra, who were close to striking up an Odd Friendship with Dark Knight, that Dark Knight initiated the original Gravity Loss that claimed Mars' mother and separated herself and Terra.

    Observer

Observer / Prometheus

Voiced by: Yuki Fujiwara (Japanese), Daman Mills (English)
Mech: Dark Original One

An inspector dispatched by the United Earth Government to the experimental supergravity vessel Asterism. He wears a mask at all times to conceal his scar-ravaged face. He is a mysterious figure with ties not only to the United Earth government's military, but also to the Relayers and Starchildren.

  • The Chessmaster: He manipulates all sides of the conflict with the end goal of killing Aphrodite, as part of his revenge against Zeus. He has no qualms about using highly-questionable methods to achieve his goal, including flat-out brainwashing in a couple of instances.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He is only known as "[the] Observer" for most of the game. His real name only appears at the end of the final Asterism Log.
  • The Reveal: Clearing the final Asterism Log gives a look into his past: He is Prometheus, who gave the humans "Fire" but was punished and given his horrible scar when humans began to fight wars against each other. He was horrified when the Gods began to slaughter humans and it is implied that this is what drives him to manipulate the humans into fighting and killing the Relayers.
  • Scars Are Forever: His half-mask hides unsightly scarring on the right side of his face.
  • Wild Card: He officially works as an observer for the Earth government, but is seen helping all sides of the conflict which makes his allegiance unclear.
