The Heroes of Light

     In General
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Every character will get drunk off a single martini.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Each character's primary color corresponds to their elemental affinity, with no two characters sharing a similar color.
    • Lucien: White and pink.
    • Phazar: Blue.
    • William: Green.
    • Baradus: Yellow.
    • Gremile: Red.
    • Zandro: Purple.
    • Leo: Orange and white.note
  • Featureless Protagonist: Downplayed. While they all have brief personal histories and backstories (along with a handful of lines in the tavern while not selected), they otherwise have no express personalities which are thus left up to the player to decide.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: Downing any kind of food will restore health, even in Zandro's case where he clearly has no organs to digest food.
  • Mage Marksman: Every single one of them (barring Leo) can wield both guns and magic tomes.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Seven heroes with varying levels of experience coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, drawn together on short notice by King Essay to take on Dark Steiner.
  • Rule of Seven: There are exactly seven Heroes of Light.
  • Sociopathic Hero: Can be induced through Video Game Cruelty Potential no matter who you play as; nothing's stopping you from riddling innocent civilians or kind rulers with bullets or bludgeoning them to death, but you might not want to stick around for the consequences.
  • Stats Dissonance: Due to how the stats system works and how you can buy as many stat upgrades as your wallet can bear, your character's starting stats and implied playstyle based on their appearance and kit will often mean nothing later on once everyone has similar equipment.

     Lucien Voyager
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char1.png
The Human Cleric
Lucien is a young, inexperienced cleric equipped with a mace. He can use his Holy Cross to revive fallen party members and interact with certain objects. Later in the quest, he'll gain a shield that can be used to block attacks - and even reflect them once he receives a certain blessing.
  • Attack Reflector: The final upgrade to his mace and shield gives his shield this capability.
  • All-Loving Hero: He hesitates in praying for Gremile and Zandro, who are both demonic and dark in nature, as well as two of the more anti-heroic members of the Heroes of Light, because he believes that his prayers will hurt them due to their nature in spite of wanting to support the two.
  • Badass Adorable: He's an extremely kind-hearted young man who shows indiscriminate compassion towards all, even those of demonic nature with questionable morals and reasons, as shown with his lines when you interact with him as Gremile or Zandro.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Wields a mace as his primary weapon, which can deal serious damage when it's leveled up.
  • Combat Medic: He's capable of reviving fallen party members with his Holy Cross.
  • Humans Are Average: He's the Token Human of the group, being a jack of all stats and carrying a kit that gives him generally average abilities that make him applicable to almost any situation.
  • Humans Are Good: He's sole human of the bunch and the most moral and kindhearted out of all of them alongside Prince Baradus.
  • Item Amplifier: His Holy Cross can be used to bless food and recover burned food, drastically increasing the amount of health it heals alongside as counting as a separate "stack" of items.
  • Jack of All Stats: Starts with identical amounts of Strength, Intelligence, Agility and Defense.
  • Light 'em Up: His elemental affinity. He starts with the Helios Communicator and Light tome, allowing him to blast his enemies with lasers or snakes summoned from sticks.
  • Light Is Good: Associated with the element of Light and is firmly on the side of the Heroes of Light - and unlike the High Priestess and Vega Brothers who correspond to Light in tandem, he's far from reprehensible.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: His shield can render him nearly impervious to non-penetrative attacks. Its upgrade fires lasers as a counterattack.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: His signature color is pink, but he's just as powerful as the rest of the Heroes of Light and will most likely be on the front lines with the likes of Phazar and Baradus.
  • Religious Bruiser: Carries a Holy Cross alongside having a cross emblazoned across his shield. He prays for the safety of the heroes when he's not in the party, and specializes in Light magic which has a holy aesthetic.
  • Token Human: He's the only human in the group.

     Phazar Bluetail
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char2.png
The Reptilian Warrior
Phazar is an infamous lizard mercenary who travels with the Heroes of Light to prove he is the greatest warrior in the Land of Magic. When pushed, he can unleash his Barbarian Rage to go whole hog on his enemies and recover significant amounts of health. Later on, he can throw his axe to create tornadoes that suck enemies in, tearing them to shreds.
  • An Ice Person: Associated with the Ice element. His Ice Tome allows him to conjure short blasts of damaging crystals, and his shotgun can freeze enemies when upgraded.
  • Barbarian Hero: A ruthless mercenary equipped with a massive axe, with a heroic build and He-Man style clothes? Phazar checks out.
  • The Berserker: Activating his Barbarian Rage turns him into a nigh-unstoppable powerhouse with rapidly regenerating health and massive melee damage output.
  • The Big Guy: The largest of the Heroes of Light who wields a massive battleaxe.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Until he gets more spells and guns, his entire kit will keep him at melee range in return for a strikingly high damage output.
  • Heroic Build: Has a well-defined body while being on the side of the Heroes of Light.
  • In the Hood: Prominently wears a brown hood.
  • Irony:
    • He's a lizard man, yet he starts out with the Ice Tome and the Shatter Shotty, in spite of being an anthromorphic cold-blooded animal.
    • He is associated with the color blue, a calming color through his scales and his association with the ice element, yet his signature ability is to enter a berserker rage.
  • Lizard Folk: A lizard barbarian from a far away land.
  • Mighty Glacier: Starts with lots of Strength and Health but little Agility, meaning that while he can tear enemies apart he doesn't really have a lot of options where speed is concerned.
  • The Quiet One: Is silent if you try to talk to him in the tavern when he isn't in the party. Pestering him will give you a single line of snark based on who you're playing as.
  • Rage Breaking Point: His Barbarian Rage charges up over time and is independent of what he's doing at the moment, but it can be used like an item at a moment's notice.
  • Short-Range Shotgun: His Shatter Shotty is a multi-shot sawed off shotgun which is useless at range and is practically a melee weapon, but can shred enemies with hit-and-run tactics.
  • Tornado Move: His axe can do this at its final level, pulling enemies in when thrown and chopping them to bits.
  • Unstoppable Rage: His Barbarian Rage ability gives him a massive speed and damage boost alongside rapidly regenerating health. Proper use of it allows him to carve through entire waves of enemies with ease.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He barely wears anything at all, in fact.

     William Slay III
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char3.png
The Packrat Thief
William is a notorious thief hailing from a long-running legacy of master thieves looking to add his own legend to his family's history, with all the riches that come with it. His sword allows him to dance between enemy shots and, when fully leveled, execute devastating counter-attacks. He also has the unique ability to pick locks, allowing him to collect extra gold, open shortcuts, and unlock a powerful secret.
  • Air-Dashing: He can perform an air dash upon getting his first sword upgrade.
  • Counter-Attack: The final upgrade to his sword allows him to perform these by dashing into an attack - this causes time to freeze momentarily, allowing him to strike whatever attacked him. Repeat at your leisure.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: His Earth Tome allows him to throw shards of molten metal, grow apples for healing, drastically increase his own defense and eventually summon golems.
  • Expy: Of Slade from Shining Force.
  • Fragile Speedster: Starts with low Defense and rock-bottom Strength, but is the fastest of the heroes by default.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Deftly wields a simple sword as his primary weapon. Later levels allow him to dash with it to dodge and counterattack.
  • Irony: He's an anthromorphic rat, which are very empathetic and compassionate animals, yet his interests are entirely within himself and his family.
  • Magikarp Power: Downplayed. William is relatively capable on his own but pitifully weak to start. He has easier access to cash supplies than other characters, but is otherwise merely somewhat more difficult to use. His power kicks in when you reach the Dark Citadel and rig the Casino, allowing him to use it to gain truly enormous amounts of gold which will, in turn, let him buy all the upgrades and weapons he wants.
    • His signature weapon is among the worst in the game until it gets upgrades; at LVL2 it gains a handy air dash, but at LVL3 it essentially gives you infinite access to Time Freeze provided you can keep dashing into attacks.
  • Master of Unlocking: His special ability allows him to open a set of ten locks throughout the Land of Magic in sequence that give him additional money, unlock shortcuts, and permanently rig the Casino in his favor.
  • Rat Men: But of course; he's an anthropomorphic rat!
  • You Dirty Rat!: Played with. William is self-serving and is in the quest for what is mostly his own benefit, but he's not outright cruel and very well-kept given the circumstances.

     Prince Baradus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char4.png
The Hawkman Knight
Baradus is the selfless prince of the Hawkmen, looking to save his people and the Land of Magic from Dark Steiner's forces. He's equipped with a lance that allows him to charge into enemies and even fly, along with a disarming personality that lets him get discounts at the Boulevard Emporium. On top of this, he has the unique power to gain interest on his deposits in the Bank of Magic.
  • Air-Dashing: His charge attack takes the form of this, being usable both in the ground and in the air.
  • Badass Adorable: He's a Cute Giant of an eagle man and a heroic and selfless knight.
  • Bird People: He's the prince of an entire kingdom of them.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: The Magnetic Minigun, his starting weapon, looks incredibly cool, but will chew through his ammo far too quickly to be useful and will be so pitifully inaccurate that you might as well just not use it until much later.
  • Expy: Of Luke from Shining Force
  • Good Is Dumb: Starts with a rock-bottom Intelligence stat that becomes a major cash sink later in the game.
  • Jousting Lance: Equipped with a lance that allows him to charge into enemies, though it's not particularly effective as a weapon in and of itself.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Wears a full suit of armor and is equipped with a knightly lance on top of that.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He becomes this later on, due to his charge attack allowing him to fly, giving him the most mobility out of all the Heroes of Light.
  • Magikarp Power: Baradus starts out pitifully weak with almost no ammo for his inefficient chaingun and spellbook, being forced to stab enemies one at a time with his lance. However, his discount at the Boulevard Emporium grows drastically over the course of the game as you collect and use Books of Diplomacy, allowing him to get far more mileage out of gold than any other character in the game. By the halfway point, he'll have unlocked his flight skills and will rapidly outpace every other character in terms of raw growth for the rest of the game.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: Quite literally in his case, due to being a prince.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: The prince of the Hawkmen kingdom who selflessly puts his life on the line to save the World of Magic.
  • Shock and Awe: The offensive capabilities of his Wind affinity take this form - he can throw blasts of lightning that bounce between defeated foes, and fire powerful lasers from his chaingun at later levels.
  • Skill Scores and Perks: Has unique access to the Diplomacy stat, which determines the discount he gets at shops as a percentage.note  This stat can only be leveled up by tracking down Books of Diplomacy in most towns, and maxing it out quickly is a key part of Baradus' later strategies.
  • Video Game Flight: Baradus' lance lets you charge in any direction once you upgrade it, allowing you to soar around levels with ease. Note that each charge consumes a bit of Mana, but this can be offset with the Mana Ring.

     Gremile 'Hotshot'
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char5.png
The Impish Gunslinger
Gremile is a bounty hunter sent to protect the Realm of Chaos from the crisis occurring in the Land of Magic. He's equipped with a unique revolver that allows him to perform seeking trick shots, and can craft his own ammo out of the raw materials dropped by enemies.
  • Badass Adorable: He's an adorably fluffy little fellow and the smallest of the Heroes of Light but just as capable of the rest of them.
  • Crutch Character: An odd example; while he's by no means easy to start with due to being a glass cannon, he has a lot of power in the early and midgame thanks to starting with the Flame Furnace and Fire Tome. However, he won't have much utility later on as he lacks special powers, and by then every other character will most likely have his elemental weapons and surpassed him in strength.
    • Being able to craft ammo doesn't help; it's often easier to just buy the alternative ammo you need rather than farming random drops.
  • Dual Wielding: His 3rd and final upgrade has him wield another revolver.
  • Glass Cannon: Sure, he can deal a ton of damage, but you'd better be ready to dodge as he starts with rock-bottom health.
  • Improperly Placed Firearms: Invoked according to Word of God; Gremile's handguns are from the Realm of Chaos. As such, they are completely misplaced in the Land of Magic techwise and fire actual bullets.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: At later levels, the Flame Furnace will fire rockets significantly faster, and can fire multiple rockets at once. These rockets can, in turn, seek out enemies.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: He has a small pair of horns and the ears of a goat, but also has a cat-like face.
  • Our Imps Are Different: Gremile is a little red furry creature that looks more like a kitten than a traditional imp.
  • Playing with Fire: Starts with the mighty Flame Furnace and the ability to spray fire just about everywhere.
  • Skill Scores and Perks: His ability to craft alternative ammo is measured by a stat on his Ammo Tool. Each individual piece of ammo crafted raises this score by one; unfortunately, Gremile needs to get the corresponding gun to fire said ammo, and most of the ammo can be purchased anyway. This is of particular issue early on, as the only ammo he can craft is for a gun that he won't have access to for several dungeons outside of Sequence Breaking.
  • Stronger Than They Look: He's tiny, but just as capable of wielding the larger weapons like the Magnetic Minigun or the Flame Furnace, the latter of which he even starts out with!
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Any application of his Flame Furnace will become this to the tune of a hail of rockets. He can also lay down landmines with his Fire Tome.
  • Unexpectedly Realistic Gameplay: Unlike almost every other gun in the game, he has to reload his revolvers after every six shots. Granted, he does it quickly, but it can be awfully strange to have to worry about reloading.

     Zandro Doom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_char6.png
The Undead Mage
Zandro is a notorious undead mage from time immemorial, seeking to prove himself as the most powerful mage who ever lived - or un-lived, as it were. Equipped with a unique set of Sorcery Orbs, he can cast dangerous spells that can wipe rooms clean of enemies. In addition, he can craft potions out of the items dropped from enemies - including some that only he can brew.
  • Black Mage: Specializes in heavy damage spells, with his Sorcery Orbs essentially being deadlier versions of other spells.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite his unsettling appearance and dark powers, he's every bit as good as the rest of the playable cast.
  • Dem Bones: Naturally, due to being a Lich.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: If you can put up with his glacial starting speed, his massive Intelligence lets you use the most powerful spells in the game as much as you want alongside his already powerful Sorcery Orbs.
  • Energy Ball: His Sorcery Orbs take this form, capable of changing between elements and bouncing between multiple targets.
  • Friendly Skeleton: One of the Heroes of Light who's just as willing to aid the cause, even if it's for mostly personal reasons.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: Has these just like every other skeleton, but his are somewhat more expressive.
  • Item Caddy: Zandro can craft potions out of dropped items, alongside brewing a handful of potions that are exclusive to him.
  • Potion-Brewing Mechanic: Zandro is the only character than can craft potions with the otherwise weak component items dropped by enemies such as Nitro Gel and Mandragoras; some of these can only be made by him. Brewing more potions will gradually increase the variety of potions he can make, culminating in being able to brew the otherwise expensive Summon Potions.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His signature color is purple, and his spells are among the most powerful in the game.
  • Shout-Out: His given name is derived from Zandronum, an engine used for emulating Doom, and his surname comes from the game itself, fittingly enough since this game is a total conversion of Doom.
  • Sliding Scale of Undead Regeneration: Healing but progressive rotting; Zandro has been cheating death for ages by constantly replacing his worn bones with fresh ones. In-game, he can heal with food and potions just like everyone else.
  • Skill Scores and Perks: His ability to brew potions is measured by a stat on his Potion Brewer item; brewing any potion increases it by one, and reaching certain thresholds unlocks more potions to brew starting from solely Health potions. Unlike Gremile, Zandro is immediately able to use the items he makes instead of needing to find the proper firearm first, and some of the potions Zandro can craft cannot be attained in any other way.
  • Squishy Wizard: Similarly to Gremile he starts with minimal health, but on top of that he's slow as molasses until he's gotten plenty of upgrades.

     Leo Howell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leo_8.png
The Wolfman Monk
Leo is the final member of the Heroes of Light, a mysterious monk who applies the fighting style of Akuma no Ken to destroy his enemies from the inside. He views guns as weak and thus cannot use them out of obligation, relying on magic and his fists to get the job done. Leo uses a unique melee combo system that doubles as a progression mechanic, giving him access to abilities no other character can perform. Later on, he can even grind for stat upgrades in typical RPG fashion.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: He's unique for refusing to use guns.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: His Big Blow Fist has him create a massive gale of wind, through presumably what is just pure physical strength and technique alone.
  • Character Tics: His taunt has him crack his knuckles in the same manner that Kenshiro does.
  • Close-Range Combatant: All of his martial arts techniques make him this, with the exception of the Big Blow Fist, which unleashes a gale that sends enemies flying.
  • Critical Hit Class: Reaching his LVL3 Taunt will allow him to charge critical hits that deal significantly more damage.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Leo is a melee fighter in a movement-oriented first person shooter, where melee attacks will often shred you in a handful of hits. If you can figure out how to handle his kit, he has a lot of up-front strength that only gets more pronounced over the course of the game and has the highest overall starting stats on top of that. You'll also save plenty of money on Alchemy potions and guns as he can't use either in the first place.
  • Expy: Of Kenshiro, Jon Talbain, and Gerhalt. The rope of prayer beads he wears as a necklace and the fact that the martial art he uses is named Akuma no Ken also might make him one for Akuma/Gouki
  • Does Not Like Guns: Refuses to use guns, finding them weak.
  • Jack of All Stats: Starts with identical, average amounts of Strength, Agility and Speed, along with high Defense to compliment his melee play style.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Leo doesn't have any access to guns, in favor of a unique melee combat system that completely changes the way you play.
  • Noble Wolf: An anthromorphic wolf with a strong sense of honor and pride in his strength.
  • Non-Elemental: Leo corresponds to Balance; he has no specific elemental affinity. His martial arts moves correspond to a wide range of different elements, he starts with two Magic Tomesnote , and he'll be using his fists for most of the game rather than guns or magic.
  • Practical Taunt: His LVL3 Taunt allows him to build up a critical hit for his next attack, causing it to deal significantly more damage.
  • Religious Bruiser: Implied. Leo wears a rope of prayer beads while dressing in a fashion very similar to a Buddhist monk.
  • Shout-Out: Akuma no Ken, the martial art he practices, is practically the eponymous martial art from Fist of the North Star, down to striking pressure points to cause the targets body to destroy itself from the inside.

Dark Steiner and His Creations

     Dark Steiner, The No God
An enigmatic madman who's scattered the Elemental Hearts, overwhelming the Land of Magic with his marble minions.
  • Baddie Flattery: As you get further in the game, Steiner begins to compliment the Heroes of Light without a single shred of venom or irony.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a long, white beard and mustache.
  • Came Back Wrong: Steiner previously tried to stop Typhon when the latter party tried to destroy the Land of Magic. Unfortunately, Steiner was killed, but resurrected as an extension of Typhon's genocidal will.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Steiner's overarching motivation is to become one of these, and he succeeds which frames the final boss.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: If you kill too many civilians or release Typhon, Steiner will call you a monster or reckless, respectively.
  • Evil Genius: Goes hand in hand with his Mad Scientist traits described below. Steiner demonstrates being one of the smartest characters in the setting, describing himself as such and demonstrating this with his numerous successful experiments with bringing life to inanimate objects and later turning himself into a god.
  • Evil Old Folks: Very clearly an old man with his massive white beard, with zero good intent for the Land of Magic in store.
  • Evil Wears Black: His robe is black and red and his actual self wears a plain black robe.
  • Fallen Hero: Steiner was one of the few who had the guts to try and stop Typhon, but was killed in the process of casting a spell to protect himself; when he came back, he lost his mind and became an unknowing slave to Typhon's will.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Steiner speaks eloquently and respects the power of the Heroes of Light as they grow over the course of the adventure, even as he's relentlessly trying to kill them. Of course, this doesn't change his plans to kill everyone and destroy the world. Even as he's being defeated, he doesn't drop his respectful facade.
  • Fighting a Shadow: You never actually fight Steiner until the end of the game; prior to that, you're fighting his avatars.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Steiner is absolutely convinced no gods exist, yet the Elemental Dragons exist in the setting - and you can use them against him!
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Steiner used to be a plain, unassuming earth mage prior to being mistakenly turned into the genocial maniac he is by the time of the story by Typhon.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Steiner's final boss fight ends with him being sucked away into a portal of his own creation.
  • Hollywood Atheist: Steiner has an overwhelming contempt for the religious artifacts left behind by ancient civilizations, is a hardline materialist with an obsession with science to turn himself into a god, is exceedingly, unquestionably selfish and evil considering his plan to take over the Land of Magic and turn it into a warped version of what he believes would be heaven, and is smugly convinced of his superiority in intelligence and capability. How much of this comes from his brainwashing by Typhon is anybody's guess.
  • Insane Troll Logic: His rants about the various idols he turns into bosses become progressively loaded with this, as he goes from criticizing the people of the ancient civilizations for not worshiping their god hard enough, to worshiping their god too hard with no in-between, while simultaneously thinking he is a god and making a machine to turn himself into one.
  • Mad Scientist: Is one of these, with the many bosses you face in dungeons being his experiments with bringing life to inanimate objects, their transformations becoming more and more extreme as the game goes on.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Steiner holds a nearly limitless amount of contempt for the religious figures of yore and the percieved suffering their religions brought to their worshipers.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He wears a striking red and black robe. Or at least his avatars do; Steiner himself wears a plain black robe.
  • Remote Body: His avatars are these; they all share his consciousness and are controlled by him from the Tower of Heaven. Steiner himself isn't fought or even seen until the end of the game.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Steiner ultimately does become a god, but he only gets to enjoy it for all of a few minutes before he's whisked away to parts unknown by the Heroes of Light - and out of his own hubris at that.
  • Science Is Bad: Steiner is obsessed with science and an understanding of the world, dismissing religion as childish superstition in the face of logic and experimentation. He's also using his genius intellect and capability to invent a machine to turn himself into a god.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: The first time you fight him is quite difficult. The second time, it's significantly easier with your drastically increased capabilities. By the end of the game his avatars are treated as no more than Elite Mooks on the final floor of the Tower of Heaven.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: No matter what you do, you can't stop Steiner from finishing his machine and turning himself into a god.

The Elemental Dragons

     In General
A troupe of elemental dragons who serve as the gods of the setting. Dark Steiner has sealed them away across the land, but they can be freed by the Heroes of Light and summoned in combat.
  • Defeat Means Playable: Defeating them and giving their pact to the corresponding member of the Boulevard Family will allow you to summon them in combat.
  • Double Unlock: Giving their pact to the corresponding shopkeeper won't immediately unlock them for use; you still need to buy one of the matching LVL3 elemental weapons on top of that.
  • Draconic Humanoid: The whole lot of them in different shapes and sizes.
  • Dragons Are Divine: They're all collectively the gods of the setting.
  • Elemental Embodiment: Each dragon corresponds to a specific element and has a variety of powers relating to said element. Said elements can even come through in their appearances and powers, such as Mal being able to transform into a body of water.
  • Hot God: A collection of rare male examples. They're all the gods of the setting and they're all incredibly fan service-y characters.
  • Level Scaling: Every Elemental Dragon defeated will increase the maximum health of all the others. Depending on the order this is done in and when the player decides to start fighting them, this can result in unusual interactions such as Mandrake having the most health, or the resident Superboss having very little.
  • Mr. Fanservice: They're all scantily clad and well-muscled, and often strike sensual poses.
  • Optional Boss: The Elemental Dragons are all found off the beaten path as parts of secrets; it's entirely possible to complete the game without encountering a single one, and none of them are required for anything outside of weapon upgrades and 100% Completion.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: For starters, they're fully sapient and anthropomorphic, as well as being literal gods and having great elemental powers. Their power is also proportional to their horde too.
  • Rule of Three: There are three dragons that previously appeared as characters owned by either the creator or their friends as a Mythology Gag.
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: Even after you free them, they're not willing to help you unless you shell out Gold to summon them.
     Mandrake
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mandrake_2.png
Prince of The Forest
"Together, I know we can overcome any challange [sic] that is thrown our way♥!"
A playful prince hidden away deep in the Misty Forest.
  • Afro Ass Kicker: He has a large, bush-like afro.
  • Ass Kicks You: Has a ground-pound attack that results in a massive shockwave which deals serious damage.
  • Audible Gleam: To emphasize his sparkling in his pre-boss cutscene.
  • Badass Adorable: An adorable brown dragon thing with glowing, beady eyes that can blow you to pieces with exploding nuts - and, like all the other dragons, he's a boss on top of that!
  • Delightful Dragon: Playful, adorable, and readily willing to help once you've freed him.
  • Green Thumb: Summons vines and plants to aid him in battle. When summoned by a player, he creates some vines as well.
  • Nice Guy: He has a very friendly and sweet personality, always speaking in an affectionate manner.
  • Not Quite Flight: His spinning allows him to slowly ascend, usually while throwing nuts everywhere.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Downplayed. He's still massive, but compared to the rest of the elemental dragons, he's tiny.
  • Plant Person: Has a massive bush atop his head that resembles an afro.
  • Say It with Hearts: His dialogue occasionally contains hearts coinciding with his playful nature such as in the quote on this page.
  • Shout-Out: His appearance bears a striking resemblance to Deku Link, down to using very similar colors and having the same tube mouth.
  • Spin Attack: He spins a lot, and that spinning throws explosive, homing nuts just about everywhere.
  • Vine Tentacles: Summons these as part of his second phase, and when he's summoned by the player.
     Ifrit
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ifrit_2.png
Wish Granting Majin
"Yeesh, fine! If you are willing to go to such lengths for a stupid wish, then I will grant you one!"
A genie sealed in a lamp somewhere in the Mountain Village.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: Holds one as part of his neutral stance.
  • Censor Steam: He actually wears nothing at all, with only a patch of fire covering up his crotch.
  • Flaming Hair: Has a whole head of it to compliment his hotheaded personality.
  • Genie in a Bottle: Is found in a random cabin in the Mountain Village: rubbing a shiny gold lantern teleports you into his arena. He also discusses granting wishes when you free him.
"... I wish someone would grant me a wish for a change."
  • God of Fire: But of course, being a fire-themed dragon genie who controls fire.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's very short-tempered and emotional.
  • Mythology Gag: Ifrit was not created for Memoirs of Magic, but was an original character owned by a friend of the creator.
  • Our Genies Are Different: Specifically, our genies are red dragons with flaming hair that can throw giant fireballs.
  • Personality Powers: He has a short, fiery temper and is the local fire elemental of the Elemental Dragons.
  • Playing with Fire: He's the fire elemental dragon.
  • Tornado Move: Summons tornadoes of fire as one of his attacks, which can pull in enemies (or the heroes) and burn them to a crisp.
     Mal
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mal_4.png
Leviathan Sea King
"I must apologize for our initial scuffle, though. I wanted to see if you were powerful enough for the power that I will now bestow upon you; considering that you paid me a visit, I must return the favor."
A refined dragon found off the coast of the Rainy Shores.
  • An Ice Person: Passively summons a storm of icicles wherever he goes and can charge a freezing ray on top of that.
  • Badass Bookworm: A refined and reserved dragon in a sharp red suit and tie who speaks eloquently, who fights alongside all the other dragons in the setting.
  • Delightful Dragon: Calm, refined, and enjoys company with no hint of malice.
"I'll have you know, I actually enjoy visitors, especially over for dinner and discussion."
  • Elemental Shape Shifter: Is shown dripping down from the ceiling to open his boss fight and can "dive" in and out of the ground as an attack.
  • Glasses Are Sexy: He's just as fanservicey as the rest of the dragons and sports a pair of this, prominently holding them during his idle animation.
  • Making a Splash: His secondary attack has him dive into a spontaneously generated pool of water, dealing heavy damage to whatever's unfortunate enough to be in his way.
  • Mythology Gag: Like Ifrit, Mal was not originally intended to appear in Memoirs of Magic; rather, he was originally a playable character in a past version of the creator's other project, Kings of Hell.
  • Personality Powers: He has domain over the elements of water and ice, and he has a calm, yet refined and dignified personality, like a calmly flowing river or a cold sheet of ice.
  • Revisiting the Roots: He's the closest out of all the Elemental Dragons to the traditional depiction of a benevolent dragon, wise, dignified, and highly knowledgeable on many subjects.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Wears a fitted red suit and tie.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He's notable for wearing a pair of glasses, and is very well-spoken and intelligent, not to mention an avid reader of literature.
  • Token Wholesome: Downplayed. His suit looks painted on due to how muscular he is, but he's the only one to be fully clothed.

Thundering Storm Fiend
"My knuckles are aching for a workout, so you don't be a stranger now, you hearing me short stuff!"
A boisterous wrestler who's taken roost in the Windy Valley.
  • Acrofatic: He has the most energetic animations out of all of the elemental dragons, as he constantly preforms a kabuki-like dance for his idle animation, as well as employing Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs and spinning around at high speeds for his primary and secondary attacks.
  • Big Beautiful Man: He has a notable belly, but he's just as well-built and fanservice-y as the rest of the elemental dragons.
  • Big Fun: He has a loud and cheerful personality, and affectionately calls the player character "squirt"
  • Blow You Away: Aside from manipulating lightning, he can also manipulate the wind too through spinning around rapidly to create a tornado.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Described by the townspeople in Castle Baradus as a loud bully.
  • Ninja Pirate Robot Zombie: He's a godly dragon named after the Buddhist god of the underworld who is a mixture between a Sumo wrestler and a Kabuki actor with control over wind and lightning.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: His primary attack.
  • Shock and Awe: He has the ability to manipulate lightning, which is reflected in the game by him
  • Shout-Out: His long, wild hair, outfit choice of a circlet, scarf and loincloth as well as his use of Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs make him similar to Star Platinum from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.
  • Stout Strength: He's built like a sumo wrestler and hits like a truck.
  • Tornado Move: His secondary attack is to spin around rapidly, creating a giant tornado that sucks all enemies in.

Vampiric Dragon Count
"Well... It has been a while since I had some sun on my skin. It would also be nice to get out of this dreary place for a change."
A vampiric count who lives east of the Dark Citadel.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": "Dracul" is the Romanian word for Dragon, so he's a dragon named dragon.
  • Affably Evil: Much like the Dark Lord himself, he's genuinely polite and quite pleasant.
  • Lazy Dragon: Far more so than the others; after his fight, it's revealed that you woke him up in the middle of a nap that he's going to go right back to when you leave.
"Now... Please make yourself towards the exit... I just need... a few more minutes... yaaaawn..."
  • The Minion Master: He attacks exclusively by summoning skeleton minions to attack you.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: A dragon with several elements of a vampire bat in his design, most notably the piglike snout.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: He's a vampire bat dragon god who's buddy-buddy with the Dark Lord.
     Typhon

Father of All Monsters
"Your kind... talk too much. It's... uninteresting."
An ancient god sealed away somewhere in the Twilight Sands, lost to time.
  • Dramatic Ellipsis: His dialogue is filled with these.
  • Emotionless Reptile: Typhon, an anthropomorphic snake gorgon dragon, is a stoic, emotionless god who is shown to be rather disinterested and disconnected from the genocide he previously committed by trying to turn the world to marble.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: You have the option to release Typhon after defeating him like every other dragon, though he's the only one who is outright evil and previously tried to destroy the Land of Magic just as Steiner currently is. Of course, after you free him and defeat Steiner, Typhon gladly takes the opportunity to try and destroy the world all over again.
  • Feet-First Introduction: The first clear shot of Typhon is of his boots, landing as he breaks free from the mural that once contained him.
  • Flash Step: Does these as part of his boss fight to signal a transition between phases, and can perform them as an attack when summoned.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Defeating Typhon and giving the pact to the Light Alchemist results in this. Ultimately deconstructed as after defeating Dark Steiner, Typhon is last seen setting himself up to destroy the Land of Magic once more because you released him.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Isn't directly involved in Dark Steiner's war on the Land of Magic, but he is responsible for previously attempting to turn the Land of Magic to marble and creating Dark Steiner by mistake.
  • Killing Intent: The Light Alchemist makes a comment about how he feels a familiar evil coming from Typhon's pact when you give it to him. Steiner also notes that he feels an evil presence with you if you release Typhon prior to the final showdown, calling you on your recklessness.
  • Lack of Empathy: Typhon completely dismisses Steiner's desperate cries for vengeance after Typhon kills all of Steiner's brethren, with the quote at the top of this folder.
  • Light 'em Up: The light elemental dragon.
  • Light Is Not Good: He's the most evil of all the elemental dragons and, of course, is the one representing the element of light.
  • The Minion Master: Summons tiny snake familiars from his hair all throughout his fight and can summon hordes of them as an attack when summoned by the player.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Typhon is some kind of snake gorgon dragon mix.
  • Ominous Walk: Walks with almost a swagger around his area with an audible footstep.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Wears various piercings, has painted purple nails, dresses as a belly dancer in skimpy pink clothes, and is the most feared entity in the Land of Magic bar none.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Typhon is unquestionably evil and a snake-summoning dragon on top of that.
  • Satanic Archetype: He's the source of all evil within the world, is associated with light through being a light elemental, and is also a gigantic serpent man.
  • Snakes Are Sexy: He has the face of a python as well as a Medusa-like head of snakes for hair, and he's easily the single most fanservice-y of the elemental dragons, who are already fanservice-y characters as is, as he has incredibly sensual body language and dresses like a belly dancer.
  • Superboss: Typhon is significantly more challenging than the other Elemental Dragons, with greater plot significance, a more tightly orchestrated fight, and access to a fast-acting One-Hit Kill attack with No Saving Throw. Assuming that the player face the Elemental Dragons in order, he will also have far and away the most health. Defeating him is required to finish upgrading the Light Tome and Helios Communicatior, both of which with their own exceptional traits beyond the capabilities of other weapons.
  • Supermodel Strut: His walking animation has him swaying his hips from side to side slowly with a hand on his hip.
  • Vapor Wear: His "outfit", if it could be called that, covers so little of his body and is so tight to his form that it qualifies as this.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's a little hard to talk about him without discussing how Steiner came to be and why he's on his rampage in the first place.
