The main protagonist of the fanfic series, in which he's the Element of Courage and the Knight of Friendship.

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: During the climax of the Final Battle between him and Armalum, Flash manages to not only reabsorb the Sacred Light he stole from him, but also absorbs the Corrupted Shadow powers that holding Armalum together. This grants Flash the power of both the Sacred Light and Corrupted Shadow, with his Shining Guardian Armor being upgraded to include black pieces in addition to its usual gold.
  • Absurd Phobia: Despite being the Element of Courage and having faced several deadly threats without batting an eye at them, the one thing he fears the most that he has never conquered, that he has had since before he met Twilight, are sock puppets.
  • Adaptational Badass: He was just a simple royal guard in canon, where as in this fic, he has mysterious powers that let him stand up to someone as powerful as Discord.
  • Ascended Extra: He had a few brief cameos here and there in canon. Here, he’s the main protagonist.
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: At the end of the series, Flash must ascend to godhood and replace Faust, after she was killed by Armalum, in order to ensure the world survives. This means saying goodbye to his family and all his loved ones. Immediately after this though, Faust was revealed to still be alive, having place a backup of herself inside of Flash, and after he absorbed her powers from Armalum and ascended, it restored her memories completely. When she offered Flash to either keep his new godhood and work with her watching over the world, or let her restore his body and return him as a mortal, Flash chooses to return to Twilight and the rest of his friends, but it takes Faust six months to rebuild his body and give it the power to handle both the Sacred Light and Corrupted Shadow.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that he and Twilight got married during the Time Skip, and now have two kids together; an alicorn filly named Stardust and a pegasus colt named Streak.
  • Batman Grabs a Gun: Despite Royal Knights' Thou Shall Not Kill policy, Flash willing destroys Mecha-Flash with no remorse.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: In "Pizza Pi Party", Flash had no problems eating pizza that was covered with his fur, drinking milk straight from the carton, and he's the only one who actually enjoys eating Rainbow Dash's pizza.
  • Bluff the Impostor: He tricks Chrysalis when she was disguised as Cadance, asking her if she remembered when she taught him how to fly and he crashed into a carrot dog stand. When she says she remembers, Flash reveals that never actually happened, he crashed into Shining's backyard while he and Twilight were watching.
  • Brought Down to Badass: He is stripped of his Sacred Light powers shortly after arriving in The Lost City of Faust. Despite this though, he uses his other skills he has developed to successfully lead his team against the cultists, defeating several of them personally.
  • Calling the Old Man Out:
    • He is not happy when Misty Veil and Trail Blazer arrive in Ponyville, and explain to him why they left him at the orphanage in Canterlot. He does calm down eventually, but he doesn’t completely forgive them.
    • He also call out his adoptive parents, Night Light and Twilight Velvet for not reading the fine print after Iron Will reveals about the contract they signed.
  • Chick Magnet: Twilight Sparkle is his official marefriend, Trixie developed a crush on him, Rarity tried to flirt with him when they first met, the human versions of Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Fluttershy blushed when he took his shirt off in front of them, and Sonata Dusk gets a Villainous Crush on him after seeing him.
  • Cool Sword: His Celestic Gear is a sword.
  • Cool Uncle: He acts as this to Flurry Heart. When he and Springer take over babysitting her for Twilight and Spike during "A Flurry of Emotions" it doesn't take long for him to win her over and start bonding with her.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: Throughout "The Cutie Re-Mark", every timeline that is visited has its version of Flash murdered by a mysterious cloaked figure. The end of the chapter reveals these murders were all committed by an evil alternate version of Flash himself.
  • Death Is Cheap: He “dies” after he eats one of Sugar Belle’s muffins, his soul creeps out of his mouth, but Pinkie Pie brings him back to life by sucking it up in a vacuum and shoving it back into him.
  • Decoy Protagonist: In The Forgotten Darkness. After spending the entire series up to this point as the main character, it would be expected for it to continue here. However, halfway through the story it is revealed he has been captured by Shade along with the rest of the Mane 7, and Springer is The Hero of the story this time.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Gets a new hairstyle after the events of “It’s About Time”.
  • First Kiss: Sunset Shimmer steals his first kiss by forcing one on him when she confronts him in the band room, which she mocks him over. Flash eventually has his real first kiss with Twilight after they finally confess their love for each other.
  • From Zero to Hero: He started out as an orphan living on the streets of Canterlot all by himself, forced to steal from local restaurants to get enough food to survive. But then he eventually met Twilight and was taken in by her family and made Grand Hoof's apprentice. Now he is known as a hero who has helped save Equestria multiple times and has achieved his life goal of becoming a Royal Knight.
  • Given Name Reveal: He discovers in "Relics of the Past" that his birth name was "Flash Relic". Even after discovring this though, he prefers to go by his new name "Flash Sentry", believing it is who he truly is now.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He received a giant X shaped scar across his chest during his battle with Sombra. When his body is remade by Faust when she revives him in The Last Problem, she removes this scar.
  • The Hero: The main character of the fanfic series and primary source for good throughout the series.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His Celestic Gear, Lightbringer, takes the form of a cutlass sword.
  • Heroic BSoD: After he lost to Cold Steel, he refused to talk to anyone, let alone even face them. He then snuck out of the Crystal Empire in the morning to train to become stronger.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: A non-lethal example where he must ascend to godhood and replace Faust, but this still means giving up the life and relationships he's built in Equestria, otherwise all life in the world will perish. However, when Faust was revealed to still be alive, she restored his body and returned him as a mortal again.
  • Hypocrite: In "The Last Crusade", Flash refuses to let Scootaloo live with Rainbow due to Rainbow constantly going out on Wonderbolt shows, she retorts back by saying he's constantly going out on missions and adventures.
  • Immune to Mind Control: When Discord tries to Mind Rape him, his mysterious powers remind him of the good times he spent with his friends, thus preventing him from being 'discorded'.
  • Interspecies Adoption: He’s a pegasus who was adopted by the Sparkles, a family of unicorns. He himself essentially becomes like an adopted father to Springer, a jakhowl.
  • Interspecies Romance: Flash Sentry is a pegasus, who falls in love with Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn and later an alicorn.
  • Irony: Flash said he and others knew about Shining Armor and Cadance secretly dating each other and yet, had no idea about Rarity and Lightning Blitz dating.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In "Fluttershy's Marvellous Medicine", He was responsible for the situation with Fluttershy when he knocked into Iron Core and caused Iron to take the wrong bottle. At the end of the chapter, he ends up getting Horsey Hives, forcing him to go through the same thing that Heart and Soul did.
  • The Lost Lenore: In the future where the adult Fire Heart came back from, he reveals that Flash dies at some point saving every kingdom, making Flash this for Twilight. Except it was actually a lie, and Flash was only temporarily "dead" and Faust revived him 6 months later.
  • The Mentor: After defeating Shadow and his cult, Flash becomes Fire Heart's mentor, intending to teach him how to use his powers to protect others so he can become a Royal Knight someday.
  • Named After Someone Famous: He is named after the legendary hero Flash Magnus, with Trail Blazer saying his family is descended from him.
  • Near-Death Experience: He is put on the brink of death due to the Flos-Mortem flower. As it slowly affects him he suffers a Dying Dream where he experiences what his life would be like if he never saved Twilight from some bullies when they were kids. He goes through so much he almost gives up and accepts his fate before his friends manage to save him just in time.
  • No-Sell:
    • Poison Joke is shown to have no effect on him for some reason.
    • When Starlight Glimmer tries to steal his cutie mark, the spell fails, and he’s able to keep his cutie mark, which allows him to escape.
  • Oblivious to Love: Both he and Twilight are completely unaware of the feelings that they have for each other. It's not until The Knight of Friendship, when he finally realizes that he loves Twilight.
  • O.C. Stand-in: His canon pony self has virtually no personality beyond being a guard pony, which makes it easy for the author to expand upon his character extensively here.
  • Offered the Crown: At the climax of War of the Lost City, after he defeats Shadow Corrupter and wins the war for his team, Faust intends to make good on the terms of the battle and change Flash into an alicorn. Despite the claim he would be ten times stronger than all four alicorn princesses combined though, Flash turns down the offer, saying his duty is to protect Equestria, not rule it.
  • Official Couple: After a lot of Ship Tease moments throughout the series, he and Twilight finally become a couple in The Knight of Friendship.
  • Properly Paranoid: During Evil's Uprising, after the battle against Shroudheart in the Crystal Empire, Flash is the only one of the Mane 7 that doesn't celebrate, feeling like their victory was way too easy, especially since Shroudheart said he was copying what Sombra did in a previous timeline and said he knew everything that was going to happen. Everyone else thinks he is just overthinking it, until Shroudheart reveals he was only faking his defeat and used his attempted take over of the Crystal Empire to get them to use the Elements of Harmony, leaving them and the Tree of Harmony in a temporarily weakened state so he could destroy them.
  • Related in the Adaptation:
    • He and Scootaloo are revealed to be siblings, whereas in canon, they had no relationship due to never meeting.
    • While their relationship in canon was dubious at best due to their resemblance to one another, in this fanfic series, he’s descended from Flash Magnus on his father’s side.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot:
    • The last line in chapter five of The Knight of Friendship describes it as a night that Twilight and Flash will never forget. The next chapter all but spells it out that they did indeed sleep together.
    • It happens again during the ending of chapter 3 of season 5 when Flash and Twilight arrive back to the castle after their first official date, only for Twilight to tell him their date isn't over yet. After realizing what she means, Flash gains a giddy smile and happily follows her inside, with the final line of the chapter saying their final part of their date was finally commencing.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: During his final battle with Shadow Corrupter, as Shadow tries to break his spirit, Flash shuts him up by telling him about how others tried to do the same thing, only for Flash to prove them wrong and Shadow himself is just the last east entry in a long list of idiots who underestimated him.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: On the giving end to Twilight. When Flash is preparing to go on his first solo map mission he and Twilight argue over whether he should bring his sword Lightbringer or not. Flash cuts the argument short by grabbing Twilight and pulling her into a long deep kiss. This ends up winning him the argument, since Twilight allows him to take his sword afterwards.
  • The Slacker: Downplayed. He's not completely neglectful of his duties, but he's a little more irresponsible than Twilight, who has to nag him about basic necessities like personal hygiene. In his youth, he was even lazier, such as trying to get Twilight to use her magic to clean a section of Celestia's castle after they volunteered to do so.
  • Taking the Bullet: A non-lethal example. When Soul is selected as a fighter for Team Flash, Flash spends most of the fight trying to protect her from the cultists. This leads to him shielding her from one of Salix's fireballs. He ends up getting eliminated from the battle because of this, but succeeded in keeping Soul safe like he promised.
  • That Man Is Dead: Downplayed at first. When he finds out that his real name is Flash Relic, he decides that since he’s been called Sentry his whole life, that he’ll stick to being called by that name rather than his original name.
    • It gets played straight in season 4 when his real parents arrive in Ponyville, and tells them straight to their faces that Flash Relic died in the orphanage that they left him in when it burned down. Though he eventually regrets it, and apologizes later on.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself:
    • In season two, he starts having bad dreams, and Luna for unknown reasons can’t enter them, so she tells his friends that he has to figure them out himself.
    • In The Knight of Friendship, Grand Hoof tells his friends that he needs to find a reason to become a Royal Knight on his own.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He takes several over the course of the series.
    • Early in season 1 he is given his own Celestic Gear, a weapon of the Royal Knights, allowing him to face more powerful enemies.
    • During "A Canterlot Wedding" he finally achieves the "Theta Mode".
    • In The Knight of Friendship he finally discovers his mysterious powers are connected to the Sacred Light and learns how and when he can properly use them, eventually allowing him to defeat Cold Steel and officially become a Royal Knight.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: After his battle with King Sombra, he becomes stricter and more abrasive to his friends, up until "Gremlins", where he realizes how much of a jerk he's been and the importance of being light-hearted, causing him to revert back to his Nice Guy personality.
  • Unknowingly in Love: He didn't realize his feelings for Twilight until years after they became friends. Even the efforts of Cadance, the princess of love, had failed to hook them up.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite having the Sacred Light and being one of strongest Royal Knights, he was easily knocked out (according to Banshee531) and kidnapped by Changelings.
  • Would Hit a Girl: While suffering his Heroic BSoD in The Knight of Friendship, he quickly becomes angered when Twilight begins pelting him with snowballs over his attitude, until he just shoves her to the ground and pins her, screaming at her to stop.
  • Wrecked Weapon: During his final battle with Shadow Corrupter, his sword Lightbringer is broken. Flash continues to fight with the broken sword though and even manages to defeat Shadow with it by channeling his Sacred Light through it in his final attack. Faust repairs it later when she upgrades Flash's powers.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: In "Reinforcements from the Future", a Future Badass version of Fire Heart travels back in time, and reveals to Flash that he will die at some point, performing a Heroic Sacrifice to save every kingdom from something. Flash initially accepts this, but by the end of the chapter silently declares to himself that he is going to survive this fate and change the future for the better. He is ultimately unable to prevent this fate though. While he survives the battle he instead ascends to godhood to replace Faust after her death and prevent the world from perishing without a God to preserve and maintain it. Fortunately, as revealed later in The Last Problem, it was only temporary as he was brought back to life by Faust. Also, Heart was actually lying about Flash being dead, as he was instructed by Future Flash to do so.

    Twilight Sparkle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c368d61c_3a6c_40e9_a6b3_30e2be32e38e.png

The Element of Magic and Princess of Friendship.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Her Love Confession to Flash is while she and Flash are in the middle of an argument with each other while Flash is suffering from a Heroic BSoD due to losing to Cold Steel and she pelts him with snowballs while screaming he isn't acting like the Flash she knows. It eventually escalates to Flash angrily tackling her and pinning her down, screaming at her to stop it. While he has her pinned, Twilight finally starts sobbing and confesses her love to him.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she and Flash got married during the Time Skip, and now have two kids together; an alicorn filly named Stardust and a pegasus colt named Streak.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Just like in canon, this was how she met Flash.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: She is notably a bit more vocal in her disbelief that Starlight's hatred for cutie marks stems from believing she lost her best friend Sunburst due to him getting his cutie mark and she didn't, especially since this petty reason caused over a dozen different dark futures to happen. Twilight even states to Starlight that she was the one who gave up on friendship altogether without even trying to make new friends.
  • Ear Ache: A Running Gag in the series is her using her magic to yank on Flash's ear. Usually when he is annoying her or when she forces him to do something.
  • First Kiss: She and Flash share their first kiss together after they confess their love for each other.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: When Flash tells her that she doesn't understand his feelings after he lost to Cold Steel, she starts pelting him with snowballs, while screaming that he’s not acting like the Flash that she knew and fell in love with.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Her words to Springer about Jakhowl Eggs cause him to feel hopeless. Celestia calls her out for her words and she apologizes.
  • Interspecies Romance: Twilight is a unicorn (and later an alicorn) who falls in love with Flash Sentry, a pegasus.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Malafear takes an advantage on her when Twilight blasted him with her magic beams by opening a portal which sent them right back to Twilight.
  • Hypocrite: Two instance happens in The Movie.
    • At the beginning of the series, she scolded Flash for stealing bread and ask him to return it. But during The Movie, she ends up trying to steal the Pearl.
    • She told everyone to not do anything to upset the Hippogriffs, yet she was the one who did the deed by attempting to steal the Pearl.
  • Love Confession: She confesses to Flash that she loves him after he pins her down and shouts at her to stop pelting him with snowballs.
  • Noodle Incident: When she asks Flash what the afterlife was like, he tells her that it was nice, and that "Goldie 1 through 12 say 'Hi.'"
    Twilight: One through twelve?
  • Oblivious to Love: Both she and Flash were completely unaware of their feelings for each other. When Flash runs away during The Knight of Friendship, it takes some convincing from her friends and Cadance to help her realize that she loves Flash.
  • Official Couple: After a lot of Ship Tease moments throughout the series, she and Flash finally realize they love each other and become a couple in The Knight of Friendship.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot:
    • Chapter 6 in The Knight of Friendship all but spells it out that she and Flash slept together in the cave that they were taking shelter in, after she shoots down Rainbow Dash’s suggestion for Cadance to use the memory potion for her to see Flash and Twilight’s confession.
    • The ending of chapter 3 in season 5 has her and Flash arrive back to her castle after their first official date. Twilight wraps her wing around Flash and gives him a sultry smirk, telling him their date isn't over yet. Flash blushes for a moment before happily following her inside.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: On the receiving end from Flash. When he is preparing for his first solo map mission they end up arguing over whether he should bring his sword Lightbringer or not. Twilight argues against it, believing it shouldn't be necessary for a friendship mission, only to be cut off when Flash grabs her and pulls her into a long deep kiss. She concedes the argument to Flash after the kiss.
  • Unknowingly in Love: She didn't realize her feelings for Flash until years after they became friends. Even the efforts of Cadance, the princess of love, had failed to hook them up.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: After Flash almost loses his life to the Flos-Mortem flower, she tries to keep him from going out, but it takes some convincing from the other Knights, and her friends to get her to let Flash out of the Castle.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Happens to her twice in "Once Upon A Zepplin". When Flash offers Cadance that he can watch Flurry Heart for awhile so she can relieve Twilight of some of the activites she needs to do and spend time with her parents, it is revealed that Iron Will had Twilight begin the next activity of signing autographs right away instead of letting her join her parents. Later, Flash gets Iron Will to leave Twilight alone for the rest of the day so she can see The Northern Stars with everyone like she wanted, but Twilight ends up being so exhausted from the day she falls asleep without anyone noticing and still misses seeing the stars.

    Spike

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45d3d923_0143_4d18_874b_9ceef2ef787c.png

A dragon who serves as Twilight Sparkle's assistant.

  • Abuse Mistake: The opening of "Spike's Heartbreak" has him hear Rarity screaming in her bedroom, and he becomes worried that she could be in danger. He bursts in to see Rarity laying on her bed with Lightning Blitz on top of her, kissing her neck. He quickly thinks that he is forcing himself on Rarity and angrily tackles him off her before attacking him. Rarity needs to pull Spike off him and explain that Lightning wasn't forcing her to do anything.
  • Accidental Pervert: Played for drama in "Spike's Heartbreak". At the start of the chapter he barges into Rarity's room after hearing her scream in what he thinks is pain, and finds her laying on her bed with Lightning Blitz on top of her, with both of them shocked by his sudden intrusion. Spike's initial reaction to seeing the two of them in the middle of this is anger, rather than embarrassment, due to thinking that Lightning is trying to rape Rarity. However, Rarity quickly explains that it was consensual sex and the two of them are together, breaking Spike's heart.
  • Adaptational Badass: He turns out to be a Mystic Fire Dragon in this continuity, allowing him to cast magic with his fire breath. After he has his Power Limiter removed at the end of Dragon's Awakening, it is said his magic will slowly grow stronger.
  • Badass Boast: He gives one to Malafear at the end of "Malafear's Restoration".
Malafear: You think you can seal me away?! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!
Spike: I am Spike...Pyro Dragon, son of Silverbolt and Fira! AND I SEAL YOU AWAY!
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In The Equestria Games, he complained about Springer having his own arch-enemy which made him more of a hero than him. He got his wish in Dragon's Awakening when Malafear appeared and proved to be one of the worst villains in the series thus far. Springer even warned him that having an arch-enemy sucks.
  • Break the Cutie: He is reduced to a sobbing wreck when he finds out that his crush Rarity is already dating someone else. He is left in a bad state afterwards and tries to think of several ways to win her over himself, none of which work out good for him. He eventually learns to move on and accept it, but still feels a bit saddened afterwards.
  • Chekhov's Skill:
    • Spike can transport scrolls with his magic fire breath, mainly using it to send and receive letters between Twilight and Princess Celestia. He ends up putting this skill to good use when he uses it to keep the time-travel spell out of the Evil Flash's hooves by burning the scroll to send it directly to Starlight when he's cornered.
    • In "The Epic of Tempest Shadows" he trains with Starswirl to learn a new magic spell; the ability to teleport himself short ranges by covering himself in flames, similar to his letter sending spell. This ends up becoming important in the climax of the chapter when after the anti-magic barrier is down, Spike uses the spell to teleport himself, Flash, Starswirl, and Celaeno's crew out of the collapsing cave and back to the ship.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Spike rarely participates in a fight in this series. However, Spike gets to play an active role in fighting Evil Flash with Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer in "A Flash of Darkness".
    • He is the main focus of Dragon's Awakening as his origin will be explored in the fic.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: When he was confronted by an evil alternative version of Flash, who had the same dark powers as King Sombra and conquered his version of Equestria, demanding Spike hand over the time-travel scroll and threatening him in the process, Spike's response was to shout "Bite me!" in defiance.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Deconstructed with his crush toward Rarity. Rarity is very fond of him and cares about him deeply, the same way she does with all her friends, but because she never expressed to him that she wasn't interested in him he continued to try to win her over. This was made worse by Rarity constantly leading Spike on and using her charms to get favors out of him. Due to Spike's young age and naivety he mistook all the times she flirted with him and coddled him as signs that she "loved" him the same way he loved her and that he had a shot with her, instead of seeing it as just the friendly teasing that it was as all other adults eventually did when Rarity would do it to them. This eventually leads to him having a massive heartbreak upon discovering she is already dating someone else, and tries to think of ways to change himself to make her see he is "perfect" for her. He does eventually realize he was just deluding himself and that his crush on her was never truly going to work out, but Rarity also apologizes for playing with his feelings and promises to treat him better, with the two remaining close friends.
  • Given Name Reveal: Or more accurately "Intended Name Reveal". When he, First Aid, and Flicker speak to the spirit of Silverbolt, Spike's biological dad, Silverbolt momentarily calls him "Pyro". He explains Fira had an entire list of names chosen for him, depending on what gender and element he was born with, and "Pyro" was the one for if he was a boy with the fire element. Spike ends up adopting the name as his Middle Name, making his full name "Spike Pyro Dragon".
  • Hopeless Suitor: He was basically doomed to be this toward Rarity from the start. Although she clearly appreciates him and all he does to help her, she just isn't interested in him romantically the way he is with her. It is also explained that the two of them logically never would have worked as a couple anyway, given the age gap between them and the two of them being completely different species. It eventually takes Lightning Blitz asking Spike several uncomfortable questions to make him realize that he was just deluding himself. Though he still keeps a small crush on Rarity afterwards it has a chance to fade away healthily, and he and Rarity continue to be good friends.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: He does this to Ember while she is under Malafear's control, eventually managing to free her.
  • Improbable Infant Survival: Spike was an egg for over a thousand years, but remained alive inside of it all that time until he was finally hatched by Twilight's magic. Ember says that a normal dragon would have died a month after being laid if it hadn't hatched, and a flashback has Silverbolt telling Starswirl that normally only one egg out of three manages to hatch. Everyone theorizes that maybe Spike had a stasis spell cast on him that kept him alive while he was in the egg.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Spike is somewhat of a Butt-Monkey, constantly enduring slapstick antics and embarrassing moments while trying to look cool. But when push comes to shove he is capable of proving himself as a valuable asset. He not only saved the Crystal Empire twice, he also helped the Ponyville Defenders fight a group of Timberwolves using his fire breath as a weapon, and he stood up to an evil version of Flash to keep the time-travel spell away from him. He was also willing to make a Heroic Sacrifice against Malafear to re-seal him with a Suicide Attack, though was thankfully spared thanks to the soul of his dad Silverbolt.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He is completely unaware of the Love Triangle going on between him, Rarity, and Lightning Blitz. He is also not informed that Rarity has chosen Lightning Blitz after she and him made a bet during "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet" that he would go on a date with her if she didn't give up on exercising to lose weight for an entire week. He finally learns about them in "Spike's Heartbreak", when he barged into Rarity's bedroom as the two of them are "expressing themselves".
  • Love Hurts: Spike has an obvious crush on Rarity, but she unfortunately only sees him as a friend. He pines for her affections anyway he can, willing to do her any sort of favors just for a chance to be close to her or get a compliment from her. He also truly believes he has a shot with her, due to how she occasionally flirts with him or gets close to him, not understanding these are all just friendly teases from her she does toward others too. When he accidentally discovers that she is already dating someone else, he suffers massive heartbreak from it and stews in his depression, to the point he feels if he can change himself then it will mean he can win Rarity over. He eventually accepts he was just deluding himself and his crush on her never going to work, but it still leaves him hurt inside, with him needing to learn to live with it until it goes away someday.
  • Love Triangle: He doesn’t know that Lightning Blitz is also gunning for Rarity’s affections. He also doesn’t know that Rarity has chosen Lightning Blitz over him as of "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet". He finally finds out in "Spike's Heartbreak", and is saddened by it.
  • Moment Killer: Played for drama in "Spike's Heartbreak". He barges into Rarity's bedroom when Rarity and Lightning Blitz are in the middle of "expressing themselves" to each other, and sees Lightning on top of Rarity, kissing her neck. His first reaction to seeing this, due to having heard Rarity scream before barging in, is to think that Lightning is trying to rape Rarity and attack him. Rarity eventually pulls Spike off Lightning and explains to him that he wasn't forcing her to do anything and that the two of them are together.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Soarin brings up the time where Spike almost destroyed Ponyville.
  • Power Limiter: Spike unknowingly had one his whole life. A piece of his dad Silverbolt's soul was placed inside his egg when it was given to Starswirl. That piece of soul was secretly leeching Spike's magic his whole life, only leaving enough for Spike to send and receive letters with his fire breath. It turns out this was so when Spike tried to use the same Suicide Attack to re-seal Malafear that Silverbolt originally used on him, Spike's soul would be spared and Silverbolt's would make the sacrifice instead. After the soul is gone, Spike's body begins generating magic normally, allowing him to slowly use more powerful magic.
  • Really 700 Years Old: According to Silverbolt, Mystic Dragons are different from normal dragons as they remain in the egg until it is the right time for them to be hatched out and fulfil their destiny. Spike was then given by Starswirl to Celestia and Luna to take care of, and he remained an egg for a thousand years before Twilight finally hatched him. Even Springer lampshades this by saying Spike is technically older than him.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: After Spike discovers that Rarity is dating Lightning Blitz and suffers massive heartbreak from it, Grand Hoof says Spike needs to work through his feelings himself, suggesting everyone leave him alone for the rest of the day and check on him tomorrow.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: While usually a Butt-Monkey and Dogged Nice Guy, he is able to spend Hearts and Hooves Day with his crush Rarity.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: When he gets in over his head and is attacked by a large group of pukwudgies, Lightning arrives just in time and manages to save him by teleporting them both out of the Everfree Forest. Spike just says that he didn't need Lightning's help. Somewhat justified since he was still heartbroken over the realization that Rarity was dating Lightning and was taking his anger out on Lightning as the source of his heartbreak.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Springer. The two are described as best friends and share activities together like reading comics, but they also get on each other’s nerves a lot. Spike is often annoyed with Springer acting high and mighty due to being able to help out more than Spike himself can and Springer regularly calls out Spike on his selfishness and greed. At the end of the day they both care about each other though.

A creature known as a Jakhowl. He is found and saved by Flash in the Everfree Forest and becomes his partner.

  • Accidental Pervert:
    • While he is experiencing a Hedgehog Day loop and investigating Rainbow Dash to see if she accidentally caused the explosion in town, he spies on her and Soarin in her home. He gets a closer look inside, seeing the two together, only to be horrified at what he sees them doing together. His dry remarks after witnessing this, and the reveal the two are in a Secret Relationship, imply Springer accidentally witnessed them having sex.
    • While looking for Flash and Twilight, Springer accidentally walks in on them, having shower sex. They try to claim that they're just trying to conserve water, but Springer doesn't believe them for a second.
  • Alone Among the Couples: He feels this way himself as of Jakhowls Rising. When he first met everyone and made friends with them, they were all single and seemed perfectly happy, so he thought they were all he would ever need. But then over the years, they all slowly found someone they loved and got into relationships, becoming even happier as a result. Now, when Springer sees a couple being affectionate with each other through town, he feels a hollowness in his heart, knowing he can never have what they do due to him being The Last of His Kind with the only other two Jakhowls in town being too young for him anyway.
  • Anger Born of Worry: He angrily scolds Ace and Mira for almost getting themselves killed in Everfree Forest before calming himself down.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that he and Mirage got married during the Time Skip, and now have two kids together; one of which is now old enough to enter his adult form.
  • Breakout Character: He was originally designed to act as an Action Pet for Flash that was also an Expy of Riolu, in part so Rainbow Dash wouldn't feel left out as the only one without a pet. However, Springer's character quickly evolved beyond being a pet and quickly became a fan-favorite for many readers, even becoming the favorite character of KingJoltik, the editor of the series. Not only has Springer now become one of the main characters of the series, receiving the second most focus and development behind Flash, and received several focus chapters and stories, he has also appeared in several other of Banshee531's stories from outside the Chronicles series (or at least an alternate version of the character).
  • Commuting on a Bus: Due to his new role as Chief of Jakhowls, Springer says goodbye to Flash and others and stays in Aurarora. While Banshee531 confirmed Jakhowls Rising is the final story with Springer as main cast member, this is not the last time we see him.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Springer usually gets one or two chapters with him as the main focus in each season.
    • "The Misadventures of Springer" focuses on him defending Ponyville by himself and shows his place in their happy community.
    • "The Misadventures of Springer 2: Dreams of a Jakhowl" has him travel to Appleloosa to investigate the possibility of another jakhowl being there, only to encounter a trickster named Shade, who becomes his Arch-Enemy.
    • "Just for Sidekicks" has him share the spotlight with Spike, helping him take care of the pets and calling him out on his greed causing the whole mess.
    • "True Aura" focuses heavily on his rematch with Shade, with Springer unlocking his battle form in the process.
    • "Jakhowl Day" has him go through a "Groundhog Day" Loop, where he experiences the same hour countless times, during which he learns more about his friends and the other citizens of Ponyville.
    • He is promoted to The Hero for The Forgotten Darkness, where he once again battles Shade, achieves his Mega mode, and finally learns his origins.
    • "Bonds" has him fight against Shadow Corrupter, who has just regained his powers from the Corrupted Shadow. This results in Springer finally re-achieving his Mega mode, defeating Shadow, and entering his adulthood, thus staying in his battle form permanently.
    • "The Next Generation of Aura" has him taking care of Ace and Mira.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: In Evil Flash's timeline because the Elements of Harmony were never discovered Springer never hatched from his egg, and the egg eventually died with Springer still inside it when the Tree of Harmony died due to the Elements never being returned to it. When Twilight, Spike, and Starlight find the dead tree and dead egg, the egg is Reduced to Dust as soon as Spike touches it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He can be as sarcastic as his partner, Flash, particularly towards Spike.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Springer's ability to see auras of others, and the fact that aura isn't magic, would make him invaluable against the Changelings, since he would be able to see right through their disguises and be immune to Chrysalis' Anti-Magic throne. However, he misses out on "A Canterlot Wedding" due to his first encounter with Shade in Appleloosa, and in "To Where and Back Again" he takes Ace and Mira out on a camping trip right before the Changelings begin kidnapping and replacing everyone.
  • Expy: Is one for Riolu and Lucario.
  • Genocide Survivor: It was revealed in The Forgotten Darkness that nearly the entire Jakhowl race was wiped out along with their enemies the Tricksters, due to Dark Mist using a ritual to sacrifice them all. But, Springer's egg survived this event because Luna had previously cast a powerful protection spell on it, and then sealed it away in the Tree of Harmony until it was safe for him to hatch.
  • The Good King: Discussed briefly in War of the Lost City. It is said that he saved a tribe of Breezies from a pack of wolves and was treated as a god by them. Springer described himself as "a fair ruler" during his brief reign.
  • Growing Up Sucks: As Springer has slowly gotten older and stronger he has had to go on more dangerous missions with Flash and the Royal Knights. He has made an Arch-Enemy in Shade, a Trickster who has vowed to destroy him, and has learned what happened to the rest of his race. Upon finally reaching adulthood, and thus now staying in his battle form permanently, he is now tasked as the caretaker of two Jakhowl eggs, given the responsibility of looking after them and raising them once they hatch to ensure that his species will have a future. He also notes that due to no longer being in his smaller cuter form anymore, he no longer gets ear scratches from anyone.
  • Honorary True Companion: To the Royal Knights. Springer is already partners with Flash, works alongside Iron Core after he moved to Ponyville, and Ruby Scarlet knows he is a force to be reckoned with due to being familiar with Jakhowls in general. During the Doom Raizer arc, after Springer saves the Royal Knights and defeats Shade, Skybreaker is impressed and offers to recommend Springer become an official Royal Knight to the princesses so he can become their equal. Springer declines though, saying he does not need a title to continue fighting by their side, but Skybreaker says the offer will always be open if he ever changes his mind.
  • Interspecies Adoption: It is pretty much all but said that he is Flash's adopted son, despite being a jakhowl while Flash is a pegasus. It is revealed that when Flash found him in the Everfree Forest he was only a few weeks old, meaning Flash has been raising him almost his whole life and taught him everything he knows. The ending of Jakhowls Rising finally has Twilight tell Springer that he's been a member of their family from the moment Flash found him, with Springer assuring her he knows, and his goodbyes to everyone being similar to an adult moving out of their home.
  • The Last of His Kind: Springer is the first Jakhowl seen in Equestria for over a thousand years. It is confirmed in The Forgotten Darkness, where it is revealed that nearly all the Jakhowls were sacrificed to create the Alicorn Amulet in the past, and Springer's egg was the Sole Survivor due to his egg being protected thanks to a spell cast on it by Princess Luna. It then gets Subverted in War for the Lost City, when Faust reveals that two Jackhowl eggs were kept hidden in the city, and gives them to Springer in the hopes that it will save his species. Even further subverted in Jakhowls Rising, when the Jakhowls species returns to Equestria, after they are freed from an ancient seal they were trapped in after the events of "School Raze".
  • Like Father, Like Son: Princess Luna realizes this is why Springer reminds her so much of her old partner Sharp Paw, because Springer is his son and thus acts just like his father did.
Princess Luna: No wonder you remind me of Sharp Paw. You are just like him...just like your father.
  • Official Couple: He and Mirage become couple at the end of "Jakhowls in Equestria".
  • Suddenly Speaking: He could only communicate with Flash in the first season, but early in the second he gains the ability to talk and can speak to everyone else.
  • Super Mode: Like all Jakhowls, Springer has a "battle form" that is essentially what his adult form looks like that doubles his strength and power. He first achieved the form when he battled Shade during the Doom Raizer arc, and Ruby says that after proper training it becomes his default mode instead of his smaller form. Springer later achieves a second mode, called a Mega mode, after he is powered up by the Rainbow Power from the Mane 7. As of the chapter "Bonds" his battle form has become permanent, indicating he has entered adulthood.
  • Tell Me About My Father: At the end of The Forgotten Darkness after learning he is the son of Sharp Paw and Calm Paw, he asks Princess Luna and Ruby Scarlet, the only two living ponies who knew his parents, if they can tell him more about them someday.
  • Time Loop Fatigue: In "Jakhowl-Day", Springer gets stuck in a time loop that repeats the same hour over and over again, with Ponyville being destroyed at the end of each hour. He goes through this loop countless times, first failing to discover who or what causes the explosion, then masters several skills throughout the loops until nothing is fun anymore and he can stage direct exactly what everyone does when they do it right down to the explosion. This eventually drives him crazy and the only thing he can think of that might stop the loop is to kill himself. Luckily, Flash and Twilight stop him and when he has a breakdown over what is happening they help him find a way out of it.
  • Token Minority: He is the only non-pony part of the Defenders of Ponyville. Later, he is also the only non-pony sent on the Royal Knights mission during the Doom Raizer arc and part of the team sent to the Lost City of Faust.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Similar to Flash, he takes several over the course of the series.
    • His focus chapters usually have him getting a new power, like his Bone Breaker and Steel Paw moves.
    • After a training exercise with Flash early in Season 2 he is finally able to talk, allowing him to communicate with everyone else.
    • During his second fight with Shade, he unlocks his battle form.
    • The climax of The Forgotten Darkness has him gain his Mega mode.
    • In the chapter "Bonds" he regains his Mega mode, masters his Velocity Strike attack, and his battle form becomes permanent, indicating he has entered adulthood.
  • Was Too Hard on Him: Springer calms down after getting mad at Ace and Mira for running into the Everfree Forest and apologizes.

    Applejack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/26f01092_7a11_47f6_b17f_08a9eb6a680d.png

The Element of Honesty.

  • Alone Among the Couples: She is the only member of the Mane Six who is not in a relationship. However, it gets subverted in "The Quest for the Golden Apple Tree", when she gets some Ship Tease with Rogue. She herself admits that she always thought she would be the only one of her group of friends to go her whole life without someone liking her, and thus laughs to herself when Rogue confesses his love to her and quickly steals a kiss from her.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she and Rogue got married during the Time Skip, and now have three kids together; an earth pony and two bat ponies.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: As implied in canon, her parents have passed on.
  • First Kiss: She has one with Rogue at the end of "Nightmare Night", when Rogue suddenly kisses her on the lips when giving his Love Confession to her. It is quickly followed by Applejack pulling him into a few more.
  • For Want Of A Nail: In the canon The Last Roundup, Applejack tried to sneak out at night to avoid telling everyone about how she didn’t win a blue ribbon at the Canterlot Rodeo. Here, Flash catches her, and convinces her to come clean, once everyone is awake.
  • Interspecies Romance: Applejack is an earth pony who eventually starts a relationship with Rogue, a bat pony.
  • Noodle Incident: She says that she can’t trust Big Mac and Granny Smith to give Applebloom The Talk, because of the ‘Grape Family Incident’.
  • Official Couple: After years of being the only one who is not in a relationship, she finally achieves her own relationship status with Rogue at the end of "Nightmare Night".
  • Out of Focus: Out of all of the Mane Six, she has received the least focus. This has resulted in her having the fewest of her focus episodes adapted and being the only member of the Mane Six not in a relationship, or even have a Love Interest, until season six.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: On the giving end to Rogue. After Rogue confesses his love to her and quickly kisses her on the lips, he tries to assure her it is okay with him if she doesn't feel the same way about him, only for her to cut him off by pulling him into a kiss of her own, with him quickly kissing her back.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She refuses to leave when Fangpire threatened to hurt Rogue.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Out of all the Mane Six, she is the most angry of them all with Misty Veil and Trail Blazer for leaving Flash and Scootaloo off at orphanages.
    • She calls out Echo for abandoning Rogue and accuses her of intentionally wiping out his memories.

    Pinkie Pie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5403efe4_3aeb_4682_9683_8381b444ecc9.png

The Element of Laughter.

  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she still has Li'l Cheese in the future, and the ending of Lightning Siege reveals they also has another foal named Laugh Track.
  • Birds of a Feather: Defied. She assures Wild Smile that she wouldn’t date Cheese Sandwich, specifically because he’s so much like her.
  • Deadly Dodging: How she defeats Wild Smile in the Battle of Canterlot. She taunts him into firing his most powerful attack at her, only to Nonchalant Dodge it by ducking underneath it and let it sore over her and destroy one of the Thunder Tomb orbs Lightning Blitz had placed. The orb is easily destroyed and because of the Body Link Magic Lightning put on it, it zaps Wild Smile with a thunderbolt, knocking him out.
  • First Kiss: Downplayed; she and Wild Smile share their first on-screen one together at the end of Our Town. Though Pinkie had kissed him on the cheek multiple times before, and since they had been a couple for sometime by then it is possible they had some off-screen.
  • Forceful Kiss: Played for Laughs; at the end of Our Town she and Wild Smile have their first on-screen kiss together, but their kiss lasts much longer than Iron and Fluttershy's due to Pinkie continuing to make out with Wild and prevent him from pulling out of the kiss, causing him to turn red from embarrassment.
  • Happily Married: The ending of "A Wild Family Vacation" has her marrying Wild. She is also the second member of the Mane Seven to get married.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Any reason that Flash gives her about why they don’t need to worry about Rainbow Dash in "Wonderbolts Academy" gets brushed off to the side, when she continues to insist that they go to the Wonderbolts Academy to check up on Rainbow Dash.
  • Insane Troll Logic: No matter what Flash and the others tell her, she insists that they go to the Wonderbolts Academy to check up on Rainbow Dash. When Flash points out how ridiculous some her reasons are, she proceeds to make up another reason, or twist his words in a way that makes her seem right about checking up on Rainbow Dash in order to go to the Wonderbolts Academy.
  • Interspecies Romance: Pinkie, an earth pony, eventually starts a relationship with Wild Smile, a unicorn.
  • Mistaken for Pregnant: Her nervousness about anything baby related in "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows" causes Wild Smile to mistakenly believe that she is pregnant and he is the father.
  • Official Couple: Eventually becomes on with Wild Smile at the end of "Pinkie Pride". They finally got married at the end of "A Wild Family Vacation" after Wild proposed to her, which she gladly accepted under one condition: he tells his family the truth about his involvement in Battle of Canterlot.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • She tells Misty Veil and Trail Blazer straight up to their faces that she would not throw a party for them for being the worse parents in existence because they don’t deserve it. When Pinkie Pie says she wouldn’t throw a party for you, you know she’s really pissed.
    • Her attitude in "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows", clues in to everyone else that she’s hiding something. At first Wild Smile thinks she’s pregnant, but then finds out that its actually Cadance whose pregnant, and Pinkie Pie was trying to keep it a secret from Twilight until Shining Armor and Cadance arrived.
  • Skewed Priorities: Downplayed in The Knight of Friendship. When Rainbow casually reveals that she doesn’t like pies, while everyone is still trying to get Twilight to realize her feels for Flash, Pinkie becomes momentarily more focused on Rainbow, asking her what she had been doing with her pies since she had been giving Rainbow pies for years.
  • The Tease: After she and Wild Smile become friends she acts very flirty towards him. Her way of thanking him often included her kissing him on the cheek, and once they officially become a couple she becomes even more flirtatious and affectionate towards him.
  • Too Much Alike: Although she still becomes friends with Cheese Sandwich, she says she wouldn’t want to date him specifically because they are so much alike and if she is going to date someone she doesn’t want for it to be "a carbon copy of herself". Which is why she decided to date Wild Smile instead.

    Rainbow Dash

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4cec8aee_e2c0_45e2_bdae_b6d77f2399de.png

The Element of Loyalty.

  • Adaptational Dumbass:invoked Downplayed. In canon, she scored 100% on her Wonderbolts Test. Here, she scored 75% instead. Word of God is that he didn’t find it believable that Rainbow would have a perfect score on a written test.
  • Ascended Fangirl: She is even more of one here than in canon. Not only does she still eventually join the Wonderbolts like she has always dreamed of, she starts dating and eventually marries Soarin, her favorite Wonderbolt.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she and Soarin had five kids during the Time Skip together; four young kids named Crimson, Juniper, Violet, and Sandstorm, and a baby named Amber.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Soarin. Both are skilled flyers, a part of the Wonderbolts, and loud snorers.
  • Forceful Kiss: Downplayed example, but in "Viva Las Pegasus" after she accepts Soarin's marriage proposal to her and he puts the engagement ring on her, she surprises him by suddenly leaning up and kissing him. Though Soarin is surprised by this at first, with his eyes widening in surprise, he almost immediately accepts it and begins kissing her back, with the engaged couple happily making out for several minutes.
  • For Want Of A Nail: In canon, she was made wing pony to Lightning Dust. Here, thanks to Soarin convincing Spitfire to change her mind, she gets made lead-pony instead.
  • First Kiss: She and Soarin have theirs together at the end of "Wonderbolt Academy", after Soarin assures her she's going to do great as a lead-pony.
  • Gold Digger: Defied. She and Soarin initially kept their relationship a secret when they started dating specifically because they didn't want for others to think Rainbow was getting any special treatment. Her achievements and spot in the Wonderbolts are all because of her own skills, with her relationship having no influence on them. This is later brought up again when Wind Rider tries to frame Rainbow Dash and get her kicked out of the Wonderbolts, saying that the only reason she has gotten into the reserves is because she is sleeping with Soarin, much to her embarrassment and Soarin's anger. Then once again, the Wonderbolt Board of Directors believe her relationship with Soarin caused the Wonderbolts to play favorites with her, and that she didn't truly earn her spot on the team, forcing her to prove her skills by making her compete in a race against Spitfire, and if she loses she is expelled.
  • Happily Married: The ending of "Viva Las Pegasus" has her marrying Soarin. She is also the first member of the Mane Seven to get married.
  • Hypocrite: She calls Rarity out for keeping her relationship with Lightning a secret from them, despite how she tried to do the same thing with her relationship with Soarin. Rarity even calls out her hypocrisy.
  • I Regret Nothing: Even when her position in the Wonderbolts is comprised due to her relationship with Soarin, and she is forced to compete against Spitfire to prove she has the skills to be on the team, she tells Soarin that if she could go back in time and relive the moment they shared their First Kiss knowing what would happen because of it, she wouldn't have changed a thing about it.
  • Lethal Chef: Her Pizza making skills are... terrible.
  • Meaningful Name: Her parents decided to go to Rainbow Falls for their honeymoon, and so that's why they named her Rainbow Dash, naming her after the place she was conceived.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: She implies that she is stronger than her boyfriend Soarin. When the two of them are comforting each other over Wind Rider's betrayal towards both of them, promising to never let themselves fall like he did, Rainbow promises Soarin if she ever catches him slipping up then she'll kick his flank until he steps back in line. Soarin promises to do the same thing to her too, only for her to say he wouldn't stand a chance against her, which they both laugh over. Though it is debatable how much of this was meant to be taken seriously and how much was just flirty joking between the two, especially since Soarin actually beat Rainbow in their first official race.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: She accidentally causes the crystal that Twilight, Trixie, and Starlight created to malfunction in "The Castle Labyrinth" by messing with it too much to see all the simulations it has.
  • Official Couple: It is revealed in "Jakhowl-Day" that she and Soarin have been dating since her time at the Wonderbolt Academy, but have kept it a Scret Relationship due to not wanting anyone to think Rainbow is getting special treatment. They go public at the end of the chapter after Springer discovers them and encourages them to come clean. They finally got married at the end of "Viva Las Pegasus" after Soarin proposed to her, which she gladly accepted.
  • Oh, Crap!: She muttered "Oh crab-apples" before Mecha-Flash slammed her.
  • Rage Breaking Point: She slowly grows frustrated with Lightning Dust's bad attitude and disobedience, all because she was upset she wasn't made lead-pony. She manages to keep her cool for the most part, but when Lightning almost gets her friends killed and brushes it off because they aren't her friends, she loses her cool and tackles Lightning, pinning her down and yelling at her that caring about others is basic "ponanity".
  • Saying Too Much: While she, Cadance, and the rest of the girls list a few times they have disagreed with the ones they love to help Twilight accept her feeling for Flash, Rainbow mentions how she and Soarin still get along even though he loves pies and she hates them, forgetting that Pinkie Pie is right next to her and has been giving her pies for years.
  • Secret Relationship: She and Soarin became a couple during her time at the Wonderbolt Academy, but kept it a secret from everyone, including Rainbow's friends and Soarin's teammates since they didn't want anyone to think Rainbow was getting special privileges. They eventually go public with their relationship after Springer discovers it and encourages them to come clean with everyone, saying it isn't good to build their relationship through lies and secrets.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is one just like in canon, with her being very tough and sporty, with Soarin even describing her as "a badass who hates being seen as girly". But despite that, she is still willing to do "girly activities" with her friends and show affection to the ones she loves. In the climax of "Viva Las Pegasus" she admits that getting married might be a little girly for her, but if it means she gets to be with Soarin forever she can handle it.
  • Undying Loyalty: She keeps this trait from canon, always willing to stand by her friends and help them when they need her. "Newbie Dash" also shows how much she is loyal to Soarin and the Wonderbolts too. When Soarin blames himself for the Wonderbolt Board of Directors potentially expelling Rainbow due to their relationship, Rainbow doesn't blame him at all, saying she would do it all over again if she could and that even if by some chance she is kicked off the team she will still continue her relationship with him. Later, during her race against Spitfire to determine her fate in the Wonderbolts, Rainbow refuses to leave Spitfire behind when she gets hurt and starts carrying her herself, even when Spitfire tells Rainbow to just drop her and save herself.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Soarin wonders why he was apparently chosen by the Sacred Light to join Flash on his journey to the Lost City of Faust, since unlike everyone else going all he can do is fly fast, Rainbow tells him to use that ability to his fullest.
Rainbow: Then be fast. Don't keep up with them. Be ahead of them. Be the first one to charge forward against whatever you all face. Don't stop moving, even for a second. After all, having cool magic and aura is pointless if they can't hit their target.

    Fluttershy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0ea6efdd_b166_4519_b750_4cdeae82f0e4.png

The Element of Kindness.

  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to Discord, she earns the ability to alter her size, similar to her incarnation in My Little Pony: Pony Life.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she and Iron had two kids during the Time Skip together; an earth pony filly and a pegasus colt that's just a foal.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She maybe the nicest pony in existence, but that won’t stop her from calling out Misty Veil and Trail Blazer for leaving their children off at orphanages.
  • First Kiss: After discovering her feelings for Iron Core, she fantasizes about the two of them sharing a passionate kiss together. Her dream comes true at the end of "Iron's Revenge", when the two of them meet in the Canterlot garden, the same place they first met a year previously, and share their first kiss together as a couple.
  • Happily Married: The ending of "The Animarum Temple" has her marrying Iron Core. She is the third member of the Mane Seven to get married.
  • Interspecies Romance: Fluttershy, a pegasus, eventually falls in love with Iron Core, an earth pony.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Its thanks to her that Iron Core is able to defeat Longhorn, as well as helping him move on from the deaths of his parents.
  • Official Couple: She and Iron Core become one at the end of "Iron's Revenge". They finally got married at the end of "The Animarum Temple" after Iron proposed to her.
  • Sizeshifter: Fluttershy gains a size-shifting ability by the courtesy of Discord.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • She calls out Misty Veil and Trail Blazer for leaving Flash and Scootaloo at the orphanages when they were born.
    • She calls Rarity out on her claims that she’s an expert at romance, despite not having gone a date herself.

    Rarity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5c144784_c51d_4d17_b23f_b59fa36f26dc.png

The Element of Generosity.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When she gives Lightning Blitz a goodbye kiss on the cheek in "It Isn't the Mane Things About You", part of her mane gets plastered to his coat due to the sticky string in it. The two share a quick laugh together over it before freeing themselves.
  • Babies Ever After: It is revealed in The Last Problem that she and Lightning got married during the Time Skip and had two kids together; two unicorns, a filly named Topaz and a colt that's just a foal.
  • The Bet: She makes a bet with Lightning Blitz in "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet", on whether she can make it through an entire week of exercise without quitting. The loser needs to do whatever the winner wants for an entire day without complaints. Rarity wins and forces Lightning to ask her out on a date.
  • But I Read a Book About It: She claims to be an expert on romance and what to do on a date due to reading tons of romance novels, despite having never actually been on a date herself.
  • Damsel in Distress: Her role in Lightning Siege. After being depowered by Mould Breaker's Phantom Magic, he has her captured for the exact purpose of luring out her boyfriend Lightning Blitz to him, acknowledging her as the one he loves.
  • Dramatic Gasp: She purposely does one after Lightning Blitz asks her out on a date, after she forced him to due to winning their bet, while declaring how "sudden" it is, before "accepting".
  • First Kiss: Downplayed; she and Lightning Blitz share their first on-screen kiss together in "Set Me on Fire". Though Rarity had already kissed him on the cheek a few times before, and the two of them had already been dating for awhile before then, even at one point "expressing themselves" to each other in what is implied to have been the middle of sex, so it is likely the two of them had already kissed off-screen.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She admits in "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet" that she is jealous that she is one of the only two members of her group of friends (the other being Applejack) who has not found a lover for herself.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She ends up playing with Spike's feelings for her and using his crush on her to get several favors out of him, but she doesn't realize how hurtful she was actually being towards him until everyone else calls her out on it. Once she realizes her mistake she immediately sets out to apologize to Spike.
  • Irony:
    • She refused Lightning Blitz's offer to go out on a date with him when they first met, with him being very rude and flirty to her the entire time. However, she is the one that takes the initiative in beginning a relationship with him, forcing him to ask her out when she wins a bet against him, teasing him about it the entire time with seductive looks and brushing her tail under his chin, and happily "accepting" him this time.
    • She is the element of generosity. Yet she took advantage of Spike’s generosity which came to a head in "Spike’s Heartbreak". See Taking Advantage of Generosity for further details.
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: When she sees Lightning and his friends struggling against Mould Breaker's Phantom Magic, she yells at him to get out while he still can, reasoning there's no telling what Mould will do to her if he kills him, but he and the others can come back and save her later once Twilight has a way to beat him, since he'll need Rarity as a hostage in the meantime.
  • Jerkass Realization: She realizes she took advantage of Spike's crush on her to get him to do various favors for her, all while leading him on and making him feel he had a chance with her. This leads to her My God, What Have I Done? moment below.
  • Love Triangle: Minor example; Rarity is the only Mane character who has been shown to have two potential love interests, in the form of Spike and Lightning Blitz. She still has moments with Spike like from canon, and even spent Hearts and Hooves day with him in season 2. Lightning Blitz started out as an Abhorrent Admirer towards her, who disgusted her with his rude behavior towards her and her friends, but after his Heel–Face Turn and moving to Ponyville in season 3 the two make amends and form a close friendship, spending a lot of close moments together. She eventually makes a choice, and has Lightning Blitz ask her out on a date after winning a bet against him.
  • Must Make Amends: This is her reason for coming with Spike in "Gauntlet of Fire", as she still feels guilty for her treatment toward Spike.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When she realizes she was taking advantage of Spike's feeling toward her, she felt awful about this.
  • Official Couple: She has some Ship Tease with Lightning Blitz when he moves to Ponyville after his redemption. After she wins a bet against him in "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet", with him needing to do whatever she wants without complaints for an entire day, she forces him to ask her out on a date. They continue to date in secret off-screen for a little bit afterwards and decide to become official not long before the events of "Spike's Heartbreak", but end up telling their friends sooner than they expected due to Spike accidentally discovering their relationship first.
  • Secret Relationship: Zig-zagged with her and Lightning Blitz. After their first date, they decided to keep going out together and see what happens between them. They didn't tell anyone about their dates though, in case things didn't work out, so they could all go back to normal afterwards without anything changing. They only made it official with each other before "Spike's Heartbreak", but are forced to explain their relationship to everyone sooner then they expected when Spike discovers them together.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: On the receiving end from Lightning Blitz. When Lightning finally sees her ruined mane, she tearfully thinks he is going to break up with her because he doesn't want to be seen with her when she's like this. He silences her before she can even finish her sentence by kissing her deeply on the lips, and though she's shocked by this at first she quickly accepts it and kisses him back, with the two spending several minutes in a heated make out session before finally pulling apart for air.
  • Smooch of Victory: She visits Lightning Blitz while he is recovering from saving Canterlot from being destroyed by an exploding crystal, and happily kisses him on the cheek as part of her thanks to him for saving her and everyone close to her. She does it to him again after he defeats a group of pukwudgies.
  • Taking Advantage of Generosity: She is called out on her treatment towards Spike, being told that although she never encouraged his crush on her she didn't do anything to stop it either, and basically took advantage of it at times to get a few favors out of Spike. Rarity reflects on this, remembering her interactions with Spike, and realizing that she ended up unintentionally leading him on by making him think he had a chance with her. She resolves this fix this afterwards, apologizing to Spike for playing with his feelings and making sure to treat him better from now on.
  • The Tease: Just like in canon, she is willing to resort to using her charms to get her way, including flirting and seductive glances. When she does it to Spike though, Lightning Blitz actually warns her it is a bad idea to lead him on like that, since she knows he already has a crush on her. She later ends up doing this to Lightning himself, when she meets with him to collect her "reward" for winning a bet against him before revealing she wants him to ask her out on a date.
    • This is deconstructed when she does it toward Spike. Though Rarity has flirted with others before, they were all adults who eventually caught on to what she was doing. Spike however is a naive lovestruck child, so everytime Rarity complimented him or got in his personal space to be affectionate with him, it made him believe that she returned his feelings for her and he actually had a chance with her, essentially leading him on and setting him up for inevitable heartbreak.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Everyone calls her out for taking advantage of Spike and always mislead him into thinking she would like him and because of this, Spike was heartbroken by her when he learn the truth about her relationship with Lightning.
