    Kassias Grandiel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_grandiel_7.png
Wizard of Illusions
Master of the Labyrinth
Approaching Truth (Limit Break)
Millennial Sage (Soul Imprint)
"Illusionist Who Created Wizard's Labyrinth"
Voiced by: Jun Fukushima (JP)
Type: Healer

A Karuel elf who is the master of the Wizard's Labyrinth in the original game. He was a wizard who once served the Kingdom of Kounat and his homeland Karuel. An old friend of Baldinar who is the one who caused the Kounat Explosion. Grandiel survived the explosion, however, the said event started an endless war between his fellow elves and the dwarves throughout the land of Archimedia. He became disgusted by this and he confined himself in a magic tower and stayed there for hundreds of years until he detected a familiar presence which caused him to cross paths with the Grand Chase.

After the events of Kounat's Collapse, Grandiel sacrificed himself by sealing Ashtaroth in the Labyrinth...except he survived and later lived a peaceful life in the Abbey. He later took in and trained two orphans, Kyle and Cindy, to his wing.

  • The Archmage: He was a powerful elven mage who served the Kounat Kingdom before its destruction and remained powerful for hundreds of years until his Heroic Sacrifice in the original game. Now, using magic hurts him a lot, although he still has access to the Wizard's Labyrinth.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: Grandiel wanted nothing to do with the happenings of the universe after he pulled his Screw This, I'm Outta Here in the first game, but Kyle and Cindy's rescue of Arme ultimately led to Belile destroying much of Abbey, and him having to teleport all of them away. He subsequently followed the three of them through the dimensions until a good portion of the Grand Chase had regrouped and he had fulfilled his destiny in Kounat by warning his past self of the things that would happen in the millennia leading up to the present, whereupon he called it quits and remained in Abbey.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Grandiel is no longer the powerful wizard he used to be and is mostly reduced to providing information. In Grand Chase, he could teleport the entire Grand Chase—at that time comprising 13 individuals strong enough to battle gods—into an alternate dimension without a sweat; in Dimensional Chaser, teleporting only himself, a rookie swordsman, an apprentice magician, and a Depowered witch a short distance demands so much out of him, it causes Blood from the Mouth.
  • Elfeminate: This has been toned down a bit here compared to his design in the original game, but he is still quite a Long-Haired Pretty Boy.
  • Great Big Book of Everything: Subverted with Grandiel's exclusive equipment, which is a transcribed copy of the Klara Libri, the book that taught Baldinar how to harness the power of the Aernas Hammer. The main difference between Grandiel's copy and the original Klara Libri is that the former does not record present events automatically, functioning more like a normal book.
  • I Will Fight No More Forever: Permanently opts out from adventuring after he and the Grand Chase set in motion the events that triggered the Great Explosion of Kounat, but ultimately resulted in the present day, believing that, as a being from the past, the future has no place for him.
  • Last-Name Basis: Like Sieghart, he is simply referred to as "Grandiel". The only person who called him "Kassias" was Baldinar.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: A beautiful elf with long, lustrous locks of hair that grow in length in every evolution.
  • The Mentor: Teaches Kyle and Cindy about magic and sword fighting alike.
  • Our Elves Are Different: He is a "high elf" type compared to Lire and Ryan who are "wood elves". He is an Archimedian elf who lived during the time of Kounat Kingdom, and the last one remaining after the rest of his kin turned into dark elves after their constant war with the dwarves. Also, unlike Lire and Ryan who are the same age as human teenagers, Grandiel already had lived many hundreds of years.
  • Painting the Medium: Grandiel is the only character whose appearance in the Connection system changes depending on who he is speaking to. If he is conversing with a Long-Dead Badass from the past, such as Kanavan, he will do so in his Kounat uniform 3000 years ago, but if he is conversing with an individual in the present, such as Sieghart, he will be dressed in his contemporary clothes.
  • Parental Substitute: He adopted Kyle and Cindy ever since they were infants and is the closest figure they have to a father in life.
  • Promoted to Playable: From a boss and NPC in Grand Chase, Grandiel is a playable SR Rank character in Dimensional Chaser.
  • Really 700 Years Old: While his exact age is unknown, he has been alive ever since the era of ancient Kounat, which now puts him at 3000 years old at least.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The stoic and reclusive Blue Oni to Baldinar’s Red before the latter’s Face–Heel Turn. It’s even reflected on their color palette.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: Usually does this whenever he decides it is time for him to show off his skills, or if he is trying to scare off a younger Kyle for doing something silly.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He may have lost his magic but he still has his wisdom, and he wears glasses for the part.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: His interactions with Baldinar during his Likability show that they had this kind of relationship. Grandiel viewed Baldinar as a nuisance and the complete opposite of himself, but nonetheless cared about him and wasn’t willing to kill Baldinar when the latter had a Face–Heel Turn - which he still can’t even 1500 years later despite his claim that his emotions has faded. He regards all memories of their time together with fondness and can’t help but wish Baldinar would return to his former self as he sees it through Kyle.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Subverted. In their first meeting, he attempted to kill Kyle and Cindy who at the time were infants to prevent the complete resurrection of Heitaros, but ultimately couldn’t bring himself to and adopted them instead. Doesn’t help that they are fragments of Baldinar’s - his friend’s - soul.

    Dolly

"Goat Milk Master Dreaming Ramblin Prince"
Voiced by: Izumi Chiba (JP)
Type: Healer

The Ramblin prince that Kyle and Cindy met in their way to Beroiah through Chilly Mines. They saved from the vampire Dmitri and doing so uncovers the secrets of his tribe.

  • Death Faked for You: The demons abducted him and falsely claimed the vampire killed him so the Ramblin matriarch Viola, his sister, would perform the ritual for summoning Balzac in the guise of a resurrection ritual to revive him.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: His main way of supporting the party is to use milk.
  • Put on the Bus: He is initially meant to be the main character of the sequel, but he disappeared on focus after the Chilly Mines section.
  • Verbal Tic: Being a Ramblin, he cannot speak without "baa".

    Lydia Norwood
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_lydia.png
Sniper

"Norwood Company's Temporary Boss"
Voiced by: Saki Fujita (JP)
Type: Ranger

The first-born daughter of Norwood Company's boss. Lydia meets the player's party when they arrive in Beroiah while she is investigating a mysterious fog that appeared in the port town, disrupting the regular operations of most businesses, including Norwood Company's shipments; the disruption wrecked Norwood Company's revenues, causing her father to become bedridden from distress and forcing her to manage the company in his place. After helping Lydia to subdue an unruly band of sailors, the player's party joins her to investigate the origins of the fog.

  • Badass Normal: Lydia is a normal human and fights using only a sniper rifle and regular hand grenades.
  • The Bus Came Back: Despite being Put on a Bus in Adventure Dungeon, which drives the game's plot, she has a permanent spot in Daily Defense mode, requesting the help of the player to transport a shipment of personal items from one of Norwood Company's big clients. In addition, she also appeared as an NPC at the end of a Grand Tale dungeon set in Big Fort Company.
  • Critical Hit: When using her Flame Bullet Active Skill, Lydia has a 30% chance of firing a shot that does 30% more damage.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Lydia's grenade attack causes all enemies caught in the blast to take extra damage from other attacks for a period of time.
  • Friendly Sniper: Lydia is a Ranger hero who fights mainly by shooting her sniper rifle. She is grateful for Kyle and party's assistance in stopping a band of sailors from getting the drop on her and geniunely impressed by their combat abilities as well as Kyle's proclamation of being a Sword Saint (much to Arme and Cindy's dismay), and follows the player's party around while they jointly investigate the mysterious fog. At the end of her story arc, Lydia apologises to Arme and Kyle for being unable to secure a ship for the party to leave Beroiah despite them helping to eradicate the fog and liberate the city.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Grand Tale Season 2 revealed that, following the events in Beroiah that happened in Adventure Dungeon, Big Fort Company's stock prices hit rock bottom, so Lydia seized the opportunity to buy all of the company's stock, taking over management of the MegaCorp.
  • Put on a Bus: Lydia's story arc begins and ends in Beroiah. Once the player leaves the city, her involvement in the plot drops off completely.
  • Shrinking Violet: Lydia is not the most confident Action Girl in game. Although she tries her best to manage the company in her father's stead and still hopes to make a fortune in Beroiah, she gets flustered very often, is acutely aware of her mistakes and lack of knowledge at being a merchant, and sometimes feels that she is useless.
  • Sniper Rifle: Her weapon of choice is a double-barreled sniper rifle that shoots explosive bullets.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: She throws a grenade that deals damage in a small area.

Kingdom of Kounat

    Esnar din Kanavan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_kanavan.png
General
The King of Knights
Ikki Tousen (Limit Break)
Lord of Swords (Soul Imprint)
"The First Queen of Kanavan"
Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura (JP)
Type: Assault

A general in the Kingdom of Kounat. Kanavan was born to a nameless family, but made childhood friends with Scarde Vi Serdin, and eventually rose up societal ranks to become not just a lion-hearted general in a World of Badass, but someone the King of Kounat, Arsad, trusted greatly, as well as a general who was deeply respected by her subordinates. Kanavan reciprocated the king's trust in her with Undying Loyalty, to the extent that even when he ordered her execution, she chose not to contest or question it.

Unbeknownst to her (at first), Kanavan is destined to lead the survivors of the Great Explosion of Kounat to the continent of Bermesiah, and establish the Kingdom of Kanavan, becoming the first queen, and she would also subsequently assist her childhood friend establish the Kingdom of Serdin on the same continent.

  • Badass in Distress: The Great Explosion of Kounat started in a rescue mission for her who is on the verge of being executed.
  • Battle Aura: This manifests in-game as an effective radius around Kanavan that causes enemies within it to take increased damage from physical attacks, as well as considerable Damage Over Time if they stay within it for too long. Her Active Skills, in addition to doing conventional physical damage, cause enemies that are hit to take damage over time from her battle aura faster.
  • Childhood Friends: With Serdin.
  • Colonel Badass: It is mentioned that Kanavan rose up through the ranks of Kounat's army, eventually becoming a general. Unlike the trope, however, Kanavan is no Desk Jockey, delegating paperwork to a subordinate. In-game lore also makes considerable mention of her incredible swordsmanship. In addition, she is not a full-on Frontline General despite her rank, since some of her field work takes place within the kingdom.
  • Dash Attack: Kanavan's in-game skills largely revolve around charging into hordes of enemies so that they take damage over time from her Battle Aura. This trope is also the basis of the Death or Glory Attack she pulls on Baldinar.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: "A sword is always honest," as she puts it. However, Kanavan also believes that one should be proud of their own skill and not rely on the strength of their sword.
  • I Am Not Right-Handed: While charging recklessly towards Baldinar in a Death or Glory Attack, Elscud attempts to intercept her, breaking her sword arm in the process; upon seeing this, Baldinar gloats that she can no longer "run wild". In response, Kanavan stops charging, wordlessly switches the sword to her non-sword arm, and resumes charging, felling the surprised archmage with a single strike.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: Kanavan was King Arsad's most trusted general. During the events leading up to the Great Explosion of Kounat, Kanavan was forced to do something the King had entrusted to her a long time ago: Mercy Kill him, as he had fallen almost completely to the corruption of demonic energy. The deed was heart-wrenching enough for even a hardened soldier like her to shed a Single Tear.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After losing the use of her sword arm when charging Baldinar, Kanavan drops out of the Grand Chase's pursuit against Decanee, knowing that she can no longer help them in battle, and leaves them to rally as many people as possible to evacuate Kounat.
  • Lady of War: Kanavan is a very respected general in Kounat, known by many as a "Sword Saint", and would ultimately become the knight-queen of her own kingdom.
  • Last-Name Basis: She is mostly referred to as General Kanavan, though Serdin calls her Nar.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: During the Kounat Escape limited-time event, Kanavan informs Serdin that the things she could do—summoning turrets and flying over water—cannot be done during "other modes", complete with an invoked Aside Glance. Serdin wondered what "other modes" Kanavan was talking about.
  • Long-Dead Badass: Kanavan is already deceased in the present time, but her legend remains as the founder of the Kingdom of Kanavan. Upon accepting her destiny as the first queen, both Ronan and Elesis bow to her as future knights of her kingdom.
  • Master Swordsman: In her time, Kanavan was matchless with the sword. Even Elscud, of all people, believes that he cannot defeat her in a straight-up fight, and was visibly impressed when she slew Baldinar with a single strike from her non-sword arm.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Kanavan actually resisted being rescued by the Grand Chase, and soldiers loyal to her, specifically because it was King Arsad himself who had ordered her execution, and even their lampshading of this trope did not convince her. She also hated being addressed as a queen, because she assumed the addressor was inciting her to rebel against the king.
  • Screw Destiny: Kanavan is introduced in Dimensional Chaser almost literally shouting this trope, but after seeing what has happened to King Arsad and hearing Ronan's description of the future Kingdom of Kanavan that she founded, Kanavan realised that, despite her utmost reluctance, she has absolutely no choice mostly due to The Needs of the Many, and partly Because Destiny Says So.
  • She Is the King: Downplayed; while some of her outfits have "King" in their names, she is generally referred to as a queen in lore.
  • Shrinking Violet: Kanavan was a shy girl like Serdin. However, she grew out of it, becoming the Boisterous Bruiser respected by many.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Kanavan was well known in Kounat for being The Heart, not just to the King and the royal family, but to the laypeople as well. In battle, however, she can be just as efficient and ruthless in her methods as most other Frontline Generals.
  • Tsurime Eyes: Kanavan's eyes are drawn in this style and reflects her confidence and willpower, even in times of uncertainty.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Kanavan does not participate in the defense of the escape ships during the Kounat Escape event as she was still recovering from the injury she sustained while attempting to strike down Baldinar.

    Scarde Vi Serdin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_serdin.png
Archmage
Queen
Magical Prophetess (Limit Break)
Magitech Queen (Soul Imprint)
"The First Queen of Serdin Kingdom"
Voiced by: Maria Naganawa (JP)
Type: Healer

One of the archmages of Kounat. She is a member of the Serdin clan, a renowned family of magicians, and is a childhood friend of Esnar din Kanavan.

Serdin assisted the Grandiel of the past and Baldinar in apprehending Duel Pone Zec, although the latter ultimately escaped. Subsequently, on the advice of the present Grandiel, whom she encountered by chance in Bright Forest, Serdin helped the Grand Chase escape the castle in Kounat after Kanavan surrendered herself to Baldinar and forces loyal to King Arsad. She would go on to assist the Grand Chase in preventing Kanavan's execution and stopping Baldinar from harnessing the power of the Aernas Hammer, which would have caused The End of the World as We Know It; the latter came at the price of starting a chain of events leading to the Great Explosion of Kounat.

Serdin accompanied Kanavan and escaped the Great Explosion of Kounat with as many survivors as they could gather. Subsequently, after Kanavan founded her own kingdom on Bermesiah, she assisted Serdin in founding a second kingdom on the same continent, which Serdin would eventually rule over as its first queen.

  • The Archmage: Serdin is one of the top mages of Kounat along with Baldinar and Grandiel, but she is not very proud of it and claims she is nothing compared to the other two.
  • Blush Sticker: Has a pair of very big but faint ones.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kanavan.
  • Cowardly Lion: Serdin is timid to a fault, and it is something she expressly denies; unlike Kanavan, who eventually became a bold and courageous Lady of War, Serdin never outgrew her shyness and timidity. However, when the chips are down, and the Godzilla Threshold is crossed, she will stand up for what is right.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Serdin is featured during the Kounat Escape event where, in-universe, she is the only remaining combat-ready escapee able to stop enemy soldiers from reaching and destroying the ships attempting to flee the Great Explosion of Kounat. In this mode, the player controls only Serdin who, beyond her standard abilities, is invincible, and can also summon defensive turrets and fly over water.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: Serdin's eyes are drawn in this style in her Magitech Queen outfit, in sharp contrast to her Tareme Eyes in most of her other outfits.
  • Last-Name Basis: She is mostly referred to as Mage Serdin.
  • Promoted to Playable: Serdin is the first SR Rarity hero added to the game who is not a member of the Grand Chase.
  • Shrinking Violet: Serdin is extremely shy and has low self-confidence. She even wondered how did her future self manage to found her kingdom and ruled as a mage-queen.
  • Tareme Eyes: Serdin's eyes are drawn in this style in most of her outfits, reflecting her shyness and lack of confidence. In her Magitech Queen outfit, she has Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes instead.
  • The Turretmaster: She takes this role in Kounat Escape where she has to deploy various turrets and defend the escape ship from enemies.

    Varonas

Adjutant
"Kanavan's battle adjutant"
Voiced by: Ryōta Suzuki (JP)
Type: Tank

  • Benevolent Boss: Noted to manage his men with care and sincerity, and he actively uses himself as a shield for troops.
  • Heroic Build: Nearly 2 meters tall and very muscular for his age, which fits his defensive combat style.
  • Number Two: Along with Narushi and Tevez, Varonas is this to Kanavan. She typically delegates paperwork to him whenever Tevez is unavailable.
  • Power Fist: His signature weapon is the Gunfist, a massive gauntlet that he wears on his left arm, which he uses to push enemies back and create protective barriers for his allies.
  • Training from Hell: Varonas is known for this, which plays a major factor in the strength of Kanavan's troops.
  • Younger Than He Looks: Believe it or not, he is 16. He’s quite sensitive to topics regarding age and/or appearance.

Demon World

    Oz Pone Max Reinhardt

    Peter von Crimson River

    Werner Burning Canyon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_werner.png
Supreme Commander of Demon Forces
"The Supreme Commander of Demon Allied Forces"
Voiced by: Kentarō Itō (JP)
Type: Ranger

The previous head of the Burning Canyon clan, one of the "Four Demon Kings", and Dio's late father. He and his friend Peter von Crimson River, along with Veigas and Heitaros, led the Asmodian demons during their war against the Ancient Demons, where Werner sacrificed his life to ensure that the Asmodians won the war.

He appears in the Burning Canyon chapter in a series of flashbacks.

  • Cleavage Window: His chest is exposed compared to the rest of his body.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: Werner may be a Moderate, but having an angel attempt to intervene in the affairs of the demons is a line crossed, even for him. He shuts Europa up in their Connection link by telling her that, despite Jupiter suggesting that he should be the ruler of the Demon World, he can never befriend any angel because of the implications it carries, which would make it nearly impossible for him to rally any demons to his cause.
  • Long-Dead Badass: In spite of rumors that he had used an underhanded tactic, Werner is honored by the Asmodians for his sacrifice, which allowed them to triumph over the Ancient Demons and become the dominant race in the Demon World.
  • Sacrificial Lion: His role in during the Ancient Demon War is to hold off Duel. Werner is killed during their standoff but he managed to keep the greatest threat at bay to win the war in favor of Asmodians.
  • Storm of Blades: His standard method of attack is through hurling copies of his sword Skyliner.

Underworld

    Myung Hwarin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_hwarin.png
Queen of the Underworld
Owner of Tablet of Fate
Celestial Empress of the Underworld (Limit Break)
"Queen of the Underworld Who Can Bear the Weight of the Crown"
Voiced by: Ai Nonaka (JP)
Type: Healer

The current queen of the Underworld.

Hwarin first appears in the Underworld chapter, exploring the wilderness with her retainer, Harpe, when she encounters the Grand Chase, being led by Hyde following the crash of the Underworld Train. The Grand Chase ultimately linked her up with the Haros Justice Army, led by Marcus, to liberate the Underworld Royal Court from control of the First Lord, Nelia Ironwood, while simultaneously preventing a resurrected King Plouton from attempting to seize control of the Underworld and reconciling the differences between her and the haros living outside the boundaries of the Underworld City. After dealing with these threats to the future of the Underworld, Hwarin chose to accompany the Grand Chase in their pursuit against Decanee, only returning to the Underworld once Decanee was vanquished in Pandemonium.

  • Artifact of Death: Hwarin's exclusive equipment is the List: Tablet of Fate, a Plot Device that controls the fate of anyone whose name is written on it, and twists the fate of anyone who tries to use it. As its designated controller, Hwarin is the only individual who can use the List without having her own fate warped by it, and can override the fate of whoever's name is written on the List.
  • Back from the Dead: Her Passive and Chaser skills are centered on reviving fallen party members.
  • Beleaguered Bureaucrat: The bureaucracy of the Underworld Royal Court is the one thing Hwarin is perpetually trying to stay on top of, even when all the haros recognise her authority as the Queen of the Underworld and it isn't being manipulated by the likes of Nelia. In her connection link with Elesis, she apologises to the Grand Chase Leader for being unable to conclude Elscud's retrial as quickly as she would have preferred due to legal complications regarding his original sentencing, which would require a comprehensive re-investigation that the Royal Court has insufficient manpower to carry out.
  • Chekhov's Skill: In-universe, despite not really being a combatant, Hwarin's knowledge of several Rebirth and Reincarnation Tropes gives her insights into certain obscure facets of the dimensions that most individuals, including even angels like Io, are unaware or uncertain of. This, combined with her authority as Queen of the Underworld and controller of the List, enables her to perform certain actions that would otherwise be impossible, such as overriding List-induced mind control, ordering a retrial for individuals who have been wrongly sentenced in the Underworld, and keeping Tia's temper in check.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Hwarin's position and authority as Queen of the Underworld, as well as the Underworld being the dimension that everyone, demon or human regardless, goes to when they die, means that she is essentially The Grim Reaper personified. Despite this, she is a genuinely Nice Girl who expresses an interest in understanding the inhabitants of different dimensions, and is determined to make sure the Underworld Royal Court gets its act back together for the sake of the dead.
  • Expy: To Eve. Both are queens seeking to rule again, and both are accompanied by two small pets (drones for Eve, balls of spirit flame for Hwarin).
  • First-Name Basis: She prefers to be just called Hwarin by name. This does not stop most people from addressing her as "Your Highness", however.
  • Killer Rabbit: Hwarin may have the appearance and age of an Adorably Precocious Child, but she is very aware of her own capabilities and authority as Queen of the Underworld. Even Veigas knows that, if she was as ruthless as the past rulers of the Underworld, she could kill anyone who slights her without a second thought.
  • La Résistance: The Haros Justice Army, a group of rebels who initially seeks to overthrow her. Upon knowing the truth, however, they supported her on taking back her authority on the Underworld.
  • Monster Fangirl: She is a very silent admirer of Legis Wilde as he was the only haros who, despite being an outlaw who is Only in It for the Money, risked his own life and high standing among the bounty hunters to ensure that she had some semblance of control over the Underworld Royal Court in spite of Nelia's manipulations; Hwarin was visibly surprised and blushed a little when she learned that Rufus is Legis's son.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: As the ruler of the Underworld, Hwarin is also the only designated legitimate controller of the List: Tablet of Fate. This allows her to override the fate of an individual whose name has been written on the list by someone else, preventing said individual from experiencing a fate that they are otherwise not supposed to experience.
  • Promoted to Playable: Hwarin becomes an SR Rank unlockable character upon the release of the Ellia chapter.
  • Puppet King: At the outset of the Underworld chapter, Hwarin was this, having lost control of the Underworld Royal Court to Nelia. Hwarin's trip to the wilderness was her attempt at rallying a force strong enough to help her wrestle back control of her authority for the sake of the dead souls.

    Harpe Noir
"Loyalty beyond death."
Voiced by: Kim Myungjun (KR), Kaito Ishikawa (JP)
Type: Mage

Harpe belonged to a family of servants serving the Erudon family in Kanavan. He was tasked to serve Ronan, the youngest member of the noble family. As both men grew and matured, the relationship between master and servant developed into the both of them seeing the other as a True Companion. Even when Queen Anyumena of Kanavan was manipulated by Kaze'aze to declare war on the Kingdom of Serdin, and Ronan marched out with the Kanavan Royal Guard into many bloody battles, often against his own will, Harpe's loyalty to Ronan never wavered, and he always fought along his master's side. At the conclusion of the war, Harpe joined Existor, the intelligence unit of the Erudon family, to investigate Kaze'aze. Unfortunately, in the course of his investigations, Harpe became a target of Ashtaroth, who manipulated him into baiting the Grand Chase to the Xenian deity; in the ensuing battle, Harpe died when he took an attack meant for Ronan.

Harpe's soul was sent to the Underworld where, as part of the regulations, he was cleansed of his past memories, and thereafter appointed to be the immediate attendant to the Queen of the Underworld, Myung Hwarin. He would go on to serve her with the same loyalty that he had shown Ronan, escorting the young queen wherever she went. However, during the Grand Chase's trip to the Underworld, Harpe met Ronan again, causing a fragment of his past memories to return. When Tristan cast a memory reminder spell to throw the Underworld City into disarray, the shock of suddenly remembering disjointed fragments of his past life (including his relationship to Ronan) caused Harpe to be incapacitated for a time. Subsequently, when order was restored and Hwarin regains control of the Underworld Royal Court, Harpe continued to serve as her attendant, although he did so now with some of his past memories restored, and looking forward to the day he would see Ronan again.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Ronan often called Harpe "Parfait" when they were young. While Ronan eventually grew out of it, Harpe still remembers it somewhat fondly.
  • Court Mage: Is this to Hwarin. The queen is not a combatant, so whenever she moves around the Underworld, Harpe will escort her.
  • Dead to Begin With: The entirety of Harpe's involvement in the story for Dimensional Chaser is this, forming just another part of his experiences working for the Underworld Royal Court after he was killed by Ashtaroth in Grand Chase.
  • Death by Origin Story: Harpe has the distinction of being the only character to be introduced into Dimensional Chaser's story when he is already dead, as he was killed in the first game. Unlike a handful of other characters who were either introduced when they were still alive (such as Stavrogin, Elscud, and Serdin), or previously died but were resurrected before their introduction in the story (such as Nelia), Harpe is the only one who remains legally dead for the entirety of his involvement in the plot.
  • Elaborate Equals Effective: Harpe's exclusive equipment, the Wraith Reaper, is a dress sword given to him personally by Hwarin when he was promoted in recognition of his services to the Underworld. Despite looking like an Ornamental Weapon, it can cut down evil spirits with the power of the sun, although Harpe usually keeps it sheathed and uses it as a bad luck ward.
  • Ghost Amnesia: Has this, which comes as part of the Underworld Royal Court's standard procedures (at the time) of cleansing souls so that they may either rest in the afterlife or serve the court in some capacity. Due to his Undying Loyalty, however, he still had a fleeting recognition of Ronan even though he was supposedly memory-wiped. The effect of Tristan's memory reminder spell downplayed this trope even further, as he suddenly remembered fragments of his past life, enough to experience The Worf Effect. After the situation in the Underworld was resolved, while Harpe still had a certain degree of amnesia, he remembers enough to realise that he was True Companions with Ronan due to their shared experiences while he was still alive.
  • Magic Knight: As part of his training in the Underworld, Harpe learned to use the powers of the dimension in tandem with swordplay.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Despite knowing that the war between Kanavan and Serdin was ill-founded, Harpe still served Ronan even as the latter commanded the Kanavan Royal Guard in many bloody battles against the armies of Serdin, trusting that Ronan's own Heroic Resolve would eventually kick in and make him realise that he was doing the wrong thing, which it ultimately did.
  • Pretty Boy: Harpe straddles the line, but his personality is very masculine, and he only turns heads because he is the Court Mage.
  • Put on a Bus: As he is dead, Harpe is bound to the Underworld. For this reason, his involvement in the plot drops off once the Grand Chase leaves the dimension.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Uno from the original PC game, who has yet to even appear in here. His moveset and appearance is very similar to Uno, while being purple instead of dark blue. Many players noticed this and wondered if he was meant to be Uno's replacement.
  • Taking the Bullet: This is how Harpe died, when he shielded Ronan with his own body from an attack by Ashtaroth during the Grand Chase's confrontation with the deity.
  • True Companions: To Ronan, and the feeling is mutual. The two men have been with each other since they were young, grew up together, and went to war together. Hence, Harpe's death is as heart-wrenching for him as it was for Ronan.
  • Undying Loyalty: In serving Ronan, Harpe grew to respect Ronan's purity of heart, which solidified this trope (and inadvertently brought with it all the baggage of My Master, Right or Wrong). Harpe's loyalty to Ronan is so strong, it goes beyond his mortal lifespan, which is why he had a fleeting recognition of Ronan even after his memories were cleansed. It is also worth noting that he serves Hwarin with the same zeal that he served Ronan for more or less the same reason.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The shock of suddenly remembering bits and pieces of his past life, due to the memory reminder spell that Tristan cast, weakened Harpe's ability to focus and control his own movements, removing him as a supporting character for a sizeable part of the Underworld chapter.

Bermesiah

    Anyumena din Kanavan

    Enaruv Vi Serdin
The incumbent Queen of Serdin and the individual responsible for creating the Grand Chase. Enaruv was born at the same time as Anyumena din Kanavan and Karina Erudon, and became close friends with them during an exchange program. Their friendship came to an end when their entourage was attacked by Ashtaroth during a journey to Kanavan; although the three of them survived, most of the royal families travelling with them were killed, and Karina was framed for the incident and subsequently cast out from human society due to a demonic curse placed on her by Ashtaroth when she attempted to hold off the Xenian deity long enough for the rest to escape.

Enaruv eventually ascended to the throne as Queen Serdin, and it was during her earlier years as queen when Anyumena, who had likewise ascended to the Kingdom of Kanavan's throne as Queen Kanavan, was possessed by Kaze'aze and waged the five-year Kingdom Wars with the Kingdom of Serdin. At one stage in the war, Queen Serdin narrowly escaped being killed when Kanavan's forces attacked her castle directly; with the help of the Grand Mage, she temporarily re-established her center of operations at the Violet Mage Guild. Subsequently, when Queen Kanavan herself entered the battlefield, Queen Serdin seized the opportunity to cast an awakening spell on the former, freeing Queen Kanavan from Kaze'aze's possession and indirectly setting off a series of events that led to the end of the Kingdom Wars.

  • The Ghost: Unlike Queen Kanavan, who appears in the Bermesiah chapter in person, Queen Serdin has yet to make any appearance in Dimensional Chaser despite being mentioned in one of Lire's likability episodes and one of the stages in the Bermesiah chapter being set in her kingdom.
  • Heroic Lineage: She is the current-day descendant of Scarde Vi Serdin, one of the top three archmages in the Kingdom of Kounat and the founder of the Kingdom of Serdin, as well as its first queen.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Queen Serdin is a pen pal with Lire. The queen often receives mail from Lire and Myrielle about their interest in the world outside Eryuell Island; her responses gave both elves their first glimpse of the larger world. The queen also visits Eryuell Island annually.

Celestials

    Jupiter/Adel Frost
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_jupiter.png
Jupiter is the Dominion of Thunder and Lightning, a god from the Celestial World who initially observed the events that unfolded in Dimensional Chaser. He is the master of four Celestial archangels—Callisto, Europa, Ganymede, and Io—who carry out tasks with his authority in the mortal world. Along with the Creator, the goddess Agnesia (who is reincarnated as Rin), the Creator Goddesses who created the world of Aernas and founded the Kingdom of Kounat, and the other Celestials, Jupiter is a member of the Fantasy Pantheon in Dimensional Chaser.

As the master to Callisto, Europa, Ganymede and Io, some of the tropes in his section apply to them as well.

  • The Ageless: As a Celestial, it is unlikely that he ages, given that one of his archangels, Io, did not age at all from the time she started watching over Edel when the latter was a young girl to the time she revealed herself to Edel when the latter is a young adult. This trope gets zigzagged once it is revealed that Jupiter had reincarnated himself as Adel Frost, suggesting that Jupiter can manipulate his age to his liking.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: Jupiter's relation to the Creator, and his level of seniority in the Celestial world, is unknown. However, he is the equivalent of a Top God to four archangels who carry out his will and can command angelic troops outside the Celestial world.
  • Divine Delegation: He does not directly intervene with events in the mortal world, instead delegating the task to the four archangels under his command. That being said...
  • Divine Intervention: Anything that happens in or directly involves the Celestial world is right up his alley, and he is very willing to personally throw down with demons or even other Dominions if the situation requires it.
  • God in Human Form: Jupiter is a very handsome man in the few panels that he appears in. Likewise, his four archangels appear as teenage/adult women themselves. Ultimately justified as he is none other than Adel Frost, Edel's twin brother.
  • The Leader: Is this to Callisto, Europa, Ganymede and Io. Their divine connection to him enhances their resolve to carry out his will.
  • Not Quite Dead: A heroic example—Heitaros claims that he had snapped Jupiter's head off back when the former still had his full powers. This led much of the demon world to believe that Jupiter had actually died and also resulted in the four Archangels of Jupiter losing their divine connection to him. As it turns out, Jupiter survived the attack and reincarnated himself as Edel's twin brother, Adel.
  • Stellar Name: Named after the gas giant, and his four archangels are named after moons orbiting said gas giant.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Jupiter was unable to continue chasing Nepteon to the Upper Heavens due to the injuries he sustained during their battle, so he left it to Ganymede to decide whether or not she should involve Io in their pursuit.

    Io Jupiter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakao_io.png
Prosecutor
"Twinkling Eyes Monitoring the Movements of Evil"
Voiced by: Kana Asumi (JP)
Type: Ranger

Io is the Angel of Inquisition and the youngest of the four Archangels of Jupiter. Her assignment is to monitor events in the mortal world and report the movements of evil entities to Jupiter. This required her to spend an extended amount of time away from the Celestial World. During the course of her observations, she discovers a young Edel Frost and starts to follow her around discreetly, even as she continues to perform her celestial duties.

Io first appears in the Bermesiah chapter stalking Edel, and she was accused of eroding the souls of the knights in the Kingdom of Serdin, but she quickly acquitted herself by assisting Edel, Rin and Asin in finding the actual culprits. Subsequently, due to Edel's continuing involvement in preventing the outbreak of hostilities between the Kingdoms of Serdin and Kanavan, as a direct result of the soul erosion, Io exploited a loophole in the Obstructive Code of Conduct she had to abide by as a Celestial in order to remain close to Edel, and subsequently assist the Grand Chase, in pursuing and vanquishing Decanee.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: Io is somewhat of a goofball, exacerbated by her usually being picked on by the other archangels or getting riled by whatever Asin says, but in situations where she has to resort to combat, Io handily reminds everyone around her why she is an Archangel of Jupiter. It is also telling that her Top God is confident enough in her ability to carry herself in the mortal world that he leaves her to make most decisions on her own, and of the four archangels, Io was the least affected when their divine connection to Jupiter was lost.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Whenever she and Europa interact, she is the boke to Europa's tsukkomi.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the conclusion of the Pandamonium chapter, a very reluctant Io accompanies Europa back to the Celestial World so that the two archangels can report the success of their respective assignments to Jupiter.
  • Butt-Monkey: She is this among the other archangels, often being physically relocated by Callisto, scolded by Europa, and underestimated by Ganymede.
  • Chain Pain: All of Io's skills involve using chains to strike enemies at range. Her exclusive equipment, Inquisitor, is also a chain with spearhead tips.
  • Commuting on a Bus: Beyond her involvement in the plot, Io also appears in various side stories and time-limited events, typically with Europa.
  • For Great Justice: She has a strong sense of justice and has been traveling between worlds until she ends up in Aernas where she detected great evil about to spawn there.
  • Genki Girl: Io is very enthusiastic about the mortal world, especially if it involves Edel or egg tarts.
  • Guardian Angel: Invoked; Io sees herself as this to Edel and had been watching over her ever since she was a little girl.
  • Loophole Abuse: Exploited by Io, with some hinting from Edel and Asin, so that she can work around the Obstructive Code of Conduct imposed by Jupiter, which prevents her from intervening in mortal affairs as a Celestial, and directly assist the protagonists as a detective in resolving the crises on Bermesiah and Pandemonium.
  • Promoted to Playable: Sometime after the release of the Tower of Disappearance.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Io has an unusually high level of affection towards Edel. For what it is worth, Edel is aware that Io is attracted to her and reciprocates the relationship in a non-romantic way.
  • The Runt at the End: Io is the youngest of the four Archangels of Jupiter in terms of seniority and lacks the maturity of the other three, so she tends to be treated like a baby by them. As if to rub this point home further, her base outfit was originally named Trainee, before it was changed to its current name (Prosecutor).
  • Sword of Damocles: Io's exclusive equipment, Inquisitor, is described as this in-universe, being able to prevent most disputes from breaking out just by letting the would-be belligerents see it and understand its meaning. This does not mean the Inquisitor is a Paper Tiger, however; whenever it is used as a weapon, a lot of Chain Pain tends to ensue.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Egg tarts. She considers being able to consume them to be one of the two advantages of living in the mortal world (the other is being around Edel).
  • Tsundere: Towards most people, Io is either hot/spicy or neutral, but towards specifically Edel, she is exceedingly sweet and hospitable.

    Europa Jupiter
"The Angel of Judgment Who Punishes On Behalf of Heaven"
Voiced by: Yoshino Nanjo (JP)
Type: Assault

Europa is Io's sister and a Celestial who was assigned by Jupiter to intervene in Decanee's plans of wreaking havoc across the dimensions. She appears in the Ellia chapter.

  • Amazonian Beauty: Downplayed; Europa is not as muscular as Callisto, but any outfit she wears that bares her midriff tends to draw considerable attention to her toned stomach muscles. Callisto also considers her the "beauty" of the four.
  • Assist Character: Europa's Noble Wolf, Laelaps, appears as a friendly Invincible Minor Minion whenever she fires her Special Skill or triggers her Passive Skill enough times, and it will go to town on nearby enemies by either charging at them or frying them at close range with electrified Homing Lasers. All of Europa's other skills extend the amount of time Laelaps is summoned.
  • Because Destiny Says So: Is apparently hardwired into carrying this out, whether she wants to do it or not, resulting in her blocking an attack from Io aimed at Decanee at Hell Bridge. As it turns out, she was only being manipulated by Decanee through the use of the List.
  • Empty Eyes: Europa has this whenever she is doing something Because Destiny Says So.
  • Expy: Laelaps looks very similar to Taranvash of Light, a boss in Elsword.
  • Lady of War: She is a warrior angel.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: She uses a shield named Talos.
  • Not So Above It All: Europa does her best to carry out the will of Jupiter, regardless of whether she is consciously doing it or Because Destiny Says So, but she has her moments where she might be amused by Io's curiosity with Edel, astonished by something she is uncertain she can eat, or just being flustered by Laelaps barking. Her "Secret Holiday" outfit seems to run on this trope as well, where she takes a break from enforcing Jupiter's will to spend time off.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: She and her weapons are named after various figures in Greek mythology.
  • Shock and Awe: Europa's skills revolve around channelling the powers of lightning to attack enemies.
  • Strange Cop in a Strange Land: Europa is Jupiter's enforcer, typically assigned problems that are best resolved with brute force, but unlike Io, Europa has no experience moving around mortal worlds and is used to Just Following Orders, so she comes off as being somewhat of an airhead. This is the source of most of her awkward and funny moments.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Her Special Skill, Howling Thunder, fires a wide medium-ranged beam of electricity in a straight path, damaging all enemies in the way.

    Callisto Jupiter
"The Angel of Valor who stands at the forefront of dangerous battlefields"
Voiced by: Kim Ye-rim (KR), Ami Koshimizu (JP), Carol Valença (BR)
Type: Assault

Callisto is the Angel of Valor and the oldest of the four Archangels of Jupiter. In times of war, she serves as the vanguard of Jupiter's celestial forces and leads them into the heat of battle.

  • Amazonian Beauty: More distinctively muscular than the other archangels, and the largest physically among them. Her outfits usually show off her very well-toned midriff.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Of the four archangels, Callisto is the most approachable—think Lire without the girliness—but when push comes to shove, her ruthlessness shines through.
  • The Big Guy: The oldest, and physically largest, of the Archangels of Jupiter, and while the other three are more offensive in terms of offense, Callisto emphasises on defence.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: The friendliest archangel, but she can also behave in certain ways that confounds Europa, who is much more reserved by comparison.
  • Cool Big Sis: She is this to the other archangels, but especially towards Europa, who is her immediate junior and often seeks her counsel.
  • The Lad-ette: The least subtle of the archangels, Callisto's approaches any issues head-on, and she has a dominating presence wherever she goes.
  • Trash Talk: When Callisto decides that the time for diplomacy has passed and Violence is the Only Option, she will talk the enemy to the ground before she beats them to the ground.

    Ganymede Jupiter
"The Angel of Order who fulfills the Heaven's will from the shadows"
Voiced by: Yu Yeong (KR), Shion Wakayama (JP), Carol Ruis (BR)
Type: Mage

Ganymede is the Angel of Order and the third of the four Archangels of Jupiter. She is Jupiter's closest aide and, due to her kind and benevolent personality, is held in high regard by other Celestials. The truth of her duties as the Angel of Order, however, is far more sinister: she serves as Jupter's shadow in other realms, as well as his confidant, and everything she does is for the purposes of allowing Jupiter to remain one step ahead of other Celestials.

Ganymede was the last Archangel of Jupiter to be added into Dimensional Chaser. She first appears in the Demon World-Terre chapter as the NPC and enemy boss Amal'thea, then subsequently reappears in the Archimedia chapter as herself, at roughly the same time she was Promoted to Playable, and becomes an Aloof Ally.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: All of Ganymede's actions are the result of extensive calculations, with the end result being to fulfil Jupiter's will.
  • Beneath the Mask: Ganymede's working relationship with Lapis (as Amal'thea) and generally benevolent disposition, even towards her fellow archangels, is just a front for her to work as Jupiter's aide and fulfil his will. She does not exactly like it.
  • The Confidant: While the other archangels serve Jupiter in a more transparent capacity, Ganymede's function is very opaque. She is a shadow for Jupiter himself and the keeper of a lot of secrets that allows Jupiter to outmaneuver other Celestials.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Ganymede is occasionally internally conflicted with her role as the Angel of Order, as it entails keeping a lot of Jupiter's secrets, even from the other archangels. This internal conflict, however, only serves to sharpen her resolve at fulfilling Jupiter's will.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Lore-wise, Ganymede is described to have the capability of killing even Jupiter, if he wills her to do it. In-game, her skillsets make her one of the best heroes for scoring contents, as she can easily wipe out entire screens of enemy hordes.
  • Promoted to Playable: Originally appearing as an NPC, Ganymede became an unlockable SR rank hero at around the time she appears as herself in the Archimedia chapter.
  • Rings of Death: Her exclusive equipment is the Star Gate, a ring-shaped device which is mainly used to distort dimensions. The weapon is described to be so complex, and the negative effects of its improper use to be so dangerousnote  that most Celestials are reluctant to use it. The reason Ganymede can harness its powers is because she is well-versed in Awesomeness by Analysis.

Spirit World

    Tiamat
"The Promised Heir to the Frozen Throne"
Voiced by: Lee Da-eun (KR), Megumi Toyoguchi (JP)
Type: Tank

Tia is an ice dragon, and destined to become the next Dragon King and Spirit Lord of Ice, and because the balance of the Spirit World is collapsing due to the events of Dimensional Chaser, she hopes to ascend to the Ice Throne as soon as possible. However, her ascension is repeatedly denied on the grounds that she is "not qualified enough", so Tia decides to try and fix the balance of the Spirit World herself by travelling to the dimension where all the chaos is coming from.

  • Aloof Ally: To the Grand Chase in Pandemonium, because them stopping Decanee will restore some balance to the Spirit World.
  • An Ice Person: All of Tia's skills are ice-based and, in her Dragon Form, inflict temporary Harmless Freezing on enemies.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: A meta-example in the form of her breakthrough outfit, which is named "Spirit Lord of Ice" and is the final evolution outfit the player will unlock after they have fully evolved and fully awakened her, and transcended her a few times. While there is no literal crown involved, the name of the outfit implies that the player's efforts to power Tia up finally earns her the necessary qualifications to ascend to the Frozen Throne and fulfill her destiny.
  • Battle Aura: In her Dragon Form, Tia's basic attack provides this as a secondary effect, increasing the attack power and speed of all allies.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Her exclusive equipment is actually her own hand in her Dragon Form—a giant draconic claw—which she can manifest as a weapon even when she is in her humanoid form.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tends to come off as incredibly rude because she does not mince her words at all.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Despite being recognised as the next dragon to become the Spirit Lord of Ice, Tia cannot ascend to the Frozen Throne just yet as she is deemed to lack the necessary qualifications. This is averted in-game once her breakthrough outfit is unlocked.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Her quotes indicate that she sometimes finds it tempting to eat her humanoid allies.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: There's a laundry list of things that will set Tia off very easily: Callousness Towards Emergency, Country Mice, wasting time and effort, not recognising her authority, being too jovial with her, taunting her, the dragons who left the Spirit World, ignoring the truth, complaining, having bad luck, giving wrong answers, being surprised by what she says...
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Tia is born a humanoid, but if necessary, she can power up and become a full-fledged dragon for a short period of time. In-universe, it is expected that she will eventually evolve and permanently assume a dragon form.
  • The Rival: To Ragnar, who sees Tia as an obstacle preventing her from becoming king of the Spirit World. Tia does not reciprocate the rivalry, which results in it becoming extremely one-sided.

    Ragnar
"An heir to the Fire Spirit Lord who strives to take over the Spirit World"
Voiced by: Park Shi-yoon (KR), Kaori Ishihara (JP), Pamella Rodrigues (BR)
Type: Ranger

Ragnar is a fire dragon, and the next in line to become the Spirit Lord of Fire. However, when Tekarion took over both the Ice and Fire Thrones, the Spirit World became unbalanced. After Tekarion's demise, the Spirit Lord of Earth, Gaiaron, took over full control of the Spirit World to prevent a repeat of the misfortune that befell the Spirit World as a result of Tekarion's actions. Not content with this, Ragnar decided that the only way the Spirit World can be properly restored is for her to become its king.

  • Critical Hit Class: Ragnar's Chaser skills temporarily increase the amount of critical damage she does, multiplied by the number of enemies hit by said skills. This makes her one of the hardest-hitting Ranger heroes in the game.
  • Highly Specific Counterplay: Ragnar's Dragon Orb passive skill includes a unique effect, aptly named "I Won't Lose to You: Tia", which specifically makes Ragnar invulnerable to the movement debuff caused by Tia's own Dragon Orb passive skill.
  • Lethal Chef: Has a tendency to just burn everything she tries to cook.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Usually seen in a humanoid form, but she can power up and become a full-fledged dragon for a short period of time.
  • Playing with Fire: Ragnar is all about fire: she has fire-themed outfits, fire-themed attacks, a fire-themed exclusive weapon, and a fiery personality.
  • The Unapologetic: Ragnar firmly believes that she can do no wrong, and that it is never her fault if things go sideways.
  • Unknown Rival: To Tia, who sees her as more of an annoyance than an actual rival or arch-enemy.
