    Sam Winchester
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sam_winchester.jpg

Sam is the second son of John and Mary Winchester. His mother was killed by a demon; he was also raised as a demon hunter.

  • Anti-Anti-Christ: As an infant, Sam was fed demon blood and was given special demon abilities by The Yellow Eyed Demon.
  • Badass Bookworm: Sam is highly intelligent, intellectual, scholarly, and a skilled researcher and bookworm. Sam also attended Ivy University and was going to become a lawyer. He is into reading and researching information on the hunt; he is considered to be the Brains to Dean's Brawn. To help him in his research, Sam always has a lap top which helps him to look up information such as lore and mythology.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Sam's powers are demonic in nature, and he uses them to hunt demons. He would think that his powers were good and that he was doing the right thing by using his abilities because he was exorcising demons out of innocent human hosts and saving the human hosts.
  • Bash Brothers: With Dean. He and his brother fight and hunt monsters and supernatural creatures side by side for a living. They are an Action Duo who complement each other and each brother has what the other needs or lacks.
  • Big Brother Worship: As a child, Sam looked up to Dean and strongly admired him. According to Sam, he always looked up to Dean since he (Sam) was four years old and tried to be just like his big brother.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Sam frequently did this with John ever since his childhood. Sam and John have always clashed and never really got along while Sam was growing up.
  • Child Prodigy: Sam was always a straight-A student throughout his childhood, despite moving from school to school due to the type of lifestyle he grew up in, which is the hunter's life. Later on in his teen years, he got a free ride to Ivy University.
  • Clingy MacGuffin: Sam's demon blood which was fed to him as a baby, which is the primary source of his special Psychic Powers, cannot ever be gotten rid of and will never go away.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Sam possessed the ability to exorcise demons with his mind without killing the human host.
  • Demon Slaying: Sam primarily hunts demons for a living. Although he does hunt other supernatural beings and creatures as well.
  • The Determinator: Sam is very ambitious, driven and determined. When he has a set goal or agenda that he wishes to achieve or complete, he NEVER gives up and will go to extreme lengths to achieve his goals.
  • Gentle Giant: Sam is a big, tall guy who can appear intimidating to others, but he is such a giant puppy who is generally kind, nice, and empathetic with puppy-dog eyes.
  • Guile Hero: Sam is very strategic and manipulative when he wants to be. He relies more on his smarts and brain and he will often conduct more strategic ways of defeating and outwitting his enemies.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Lost the love of his life Jessica. She was murdered in the exact same way as his mother Mary and both deaths were indirectly because of him.
  • Heroic Spirit: Sam is very determined. When he wants to accomplish something, he doesn't give up. Sam is known to be very strong, tough and a fighter.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Cares deeply about Dean and his family. Also, wants to save people and acts as the morality of the Dean and Sam duo. Mostly.
  • Love Hurts: Every single love interest of Sam has died. His most notable one being Jessica.
  • Mr. Vice Guy: Sam is a good person who has good intentions, but he has some major flaws. Some of them include his pride/arrogance, selfishness and his prone to being corrupted and manipulated.
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: Although Sam is more of a Cultured Badass who has a lot of knowledge about art, literature, folklore and mythology, Sam also has a his fair share of knowledge regarding music, movies, television shows and novels.
  • Related in the Adaptation: His grandmother was Mabel Blake, sister of Zinda and Eddie Blake, making him and Dean great nephews of Lady Blackhawk and the Comedian. He's distant cousins with Franklin Clay of the Losers, which makes him relative of Lilith Clay through adoption. He and Dean are also descendants of Quentin Turnbull, the arch enemy of Jonah Hex.
  • Semi-Divine: Sam is technically part demon because he was fed demon blood when he was a baby by the Yellow Eyed Demon. He gained special abilities and powers because of this.
  • Techno Wizard: Sam is very handy with computers and often uses his laptop computer for research during hunting missions.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Sam is a hunter and therefore, is the target of many supernatural beings. Also, Sam is often sought after by demons's due to his destiny which was set out for him by the Yellow Eyed Demon.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Sam has had a life long fear of clowns since childhood.

    Dean Winchester
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dean_winchester.jpg

Dean is the oldest son of John and Mary Winchester. After his mother was killed by a demon, Dean was raised by his father to be an expert hunter that could kill demons, ghosts, and monsters.

  • Anti-Hero: Dean isn't the typical classic Ideal Hero. He has committed immoral acts for the greater good. He starts moving down the scale more and more as he goes on.
  • The Berserker: Dean never seems to hesitate throwing himself into a hunting mission or a hunting battle. Dean does it so often that it seems as though he is always seeking death.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Don't ever try to harm or endanger his younger brother Sam.
  • Broken Ace: Dean may be a tough, capable and badass hunter, but his personal life is nothing but loss, grief, pain and tragedy: His mother was tragically killed by the Yellow Demon, his father goes insane with grief and fear for his children and becomes distant, emotionally abusive and turns him into a living weapon, the brother that he loves more than anything is destined for a path of darkness and evil and he might have to kill him to save the world.
  • Brutal Honesty: Dean has a habit of being too honest at times, to the point where his mouth can get him in some serious trouble or even hurt others' feelings.
  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing goes right for Dean, ever. Dean is a very unlucky guy in all aspects of life. It's surprising that Dean hasn't completely and totally lost it, even more shocking that he is still alive and functioning.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Dean has called John out on many different things, especially about John putting so much responsibility on his shoulders regarding protecting Sam and the family.
  • The Charmer: Dean is cocky and charismatic. He is also a womanizer and has plenty of confidence with the opposite sex.
  • Cool Car: Dean drives the infamous 1967 Chevrolet Impala inherited from his father John. He hates it when somebody messes with his car.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Understandable, considering that Dean is a hunter for a living.
  • Demon Slaying: Dean primarily hunts demons for a living, although he does hunt other supernatural beings and monsters as well. Despite this, it's demons Dean hates the most, as they are responsible for everything that ever went wrong with his life.
  • Determinator: Dean is probably the most determined character of the siblings. Once he sets his mind on something or on a person or mission or plan, HE NEVER GIVES UP.
  • The Dreaded: After a few adventures racking up an enormous body count of demons, ghosts, and monsters, the brothers become this to the supernatural side of things.
  • Ethical Slut: Dean is highly promiscuous and loves sex, although he doesn't get too attached to anyone he sleeps with, considering the dangerous job he has.
  • Father to His Men: As de facto leader, Dean often takes this role. He's always ready to reassure others when there spirit is wavering, and is constantly looking out for his friends' welfare.
  • The Fettered: Although Dean can be highly morally grey and has made plenty of morally questionable deeds, Dean still has a strong conscience and strong morals. Dean believes in doing the right thing as much as possible.
  • The Gunslinger: Dean is extremely skilled with guns, firearms and other weapons. He is a skilled hunter after all and guns are a major part of his job. He uses them for fighting, hunting and killing monsters and supernatural beings.
  • Hates Being Alone: His biggest fear is being left alone and he will often yell "Never do that again!" as it's apparently the only acceptable thing to do.
  • Jerkass: Dean can be a jerk to others from time to time, especially towards those whom he's skeptical or suspicious of. But this mostly has to do with Dean's serious trust issues.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite the fact that Dean has a lot of dick-ish ways, he still has good intentions and has strong compassion for others.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Dean is basically the Trope Codifier. Dean will basically kill or hurt anyone who so much as harms Sam in any way, shape or form. Note to others: DO NOT hurt or harm Sam. Dean will come after you big time.
  • Large Ham: Dean can be a rather larger than life character at times. With Dean, sometimes the larger, the better. Especially when it comes to Dean's food.
  • Mama's Boy: Played With. It's very clear that Dean was very attached to Mary and took her death almost as bad as John did. However, when he learns that it was Mary's deal with the Yellow-Eyes that led to the unfathomable suffering Sam had to endure, Dean was understandably angry and loathing for what she did. But, at the end of the day, Mary was still his mother and Dean couldn't bring himself to hate her.
  • Parental Issues: Dean had some serious daddy issues growing up and his mother died unexpectedly when he was just a kid.
  • Parental Neglect: Oh so much. It took a while for Dean to come to terms with John's abandonment of his father growing up.
  • Parental Substitute: To Sam. Growing up, John was never in Sam's (or Dean's) life. Dean was the one who practically raised Sam since he was a baby. At times, Dean appears to be more of a father figure to Sam than an actual older brother.
  • Porn Stash: Dean is heavily into skin mags and porn magazines that it is not that unusual to think that Dean has always had a stash of skin magazines hiding somewhere everywhere he goes.
  • Related in the Adaptation: His grandmother is Mabel Blake, sister of Zinda and Eddie Blake, making him and Sam great nephews of Lady Blackhawk and the Comedian. He's also distant cousins with Franklin Clay of the Losers, which makes him relative of Lilith Clay through adoption. He and Sam are also descendants of Quentin Turnbull, arch enemy of Jonah Hex.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He has a fear of flying.

    John Winchester

  • Faking the Dead: Let his daughter Celeste believe he had died during a car crash that was caused by a pair of demons to protect her.
  • Honorary Uncle: He's called 'Uncle John' by Jo Harvelle.
  • Identical Grandson: He looks a lot like his ancestor Jeb Turnbull, as well as his uncle Eddie Blake. This is a Mythology Gag referencing all three of them were played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

  • Related in the Adaptation: His mother is Mabel 'Millie' Blake, younger sister of Zinda and Eddie Blake, who are his aunt and uncle respectively. He himself is also a descendant of Quentin Turnbull, nemesis of Jonah Hex. He's also the father of Charlie Bradbury.
  • Revenge Before Reason: The major driving force behind why John began hunting. He shares this same trait with his second son Sam.
  • We Used to Be Friends: His obsession with Azazel deteriorated his friendship with Bobby Singer and estranged him from Ellen Harvelle, who worried about her husband Billy helping him too much, and who went missing alongside John.

Harvelle's Roadhouse

    Ellen Harvelle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ellen_harvelle_earth_27.jpg

  • Anger Born of Worry: Seems to be her default response to her loved ones risking themselves.

  • Happily Married: With Bill, even when she worried he would not return when accompanying John Winchester in his search for Azazel.
  • Mama Bear: She is highly protective of Jo, particularly when Bill isn't around. These maternal instincts also are on display when dealing with other young hunters who she has taken a shine to.
  • My Beloved Smother: In Jo's opinion, at least, she's a bit overprotective.
  • Retired Badass: Ellen considers herself retired from "the life". She is hesitant to go into the field and has let her skillcraft get a bit unpracticed. However, do not mistake this for being ignorant. Give her a bit to get the hang of things again and her skills come back to her quick, as demonstrated by the times she has grabbed her shotgun and sped off in the middle of the night to bring Jo and/or Bill back from a hunt after they failed to check in with her as agreed.
  • Team Mom: Less explicit than Bobby's Team Dad status, but she does take on a mother-figure role to Sam and Dean.

    Jo Harvelle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jo_harvelle_earth_27.jpg

  • Dead Guy Junior: She's named after her maternal grandmother, Joanna Dolan.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father Billy went missing around the same time as John Winchester.
  • Friendless Background: Because of her parents' lifestyle, she didn't have many friends growing up. Now she has found friendship with James Wheeler, Mystery Inc., Ash Miles, Garth Fitzgerald IV, Pamela Barnes and the Banes twins.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Ellen calls her "Joanna Beth Harvelle" when she's upset with her.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: Carries a big hunting knife.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Had this relationship with Gordon Walker, since she reminded him of his sister.
  • Likes Older Men: She had a bit of a crush on Gordon Walker, and she's interested on Dean Winchester.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks a lot like her mother, besides having blonde hair.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yellow_eyes__earth_27__commission_by_phil_cho_ddpgb1h_fullview.jpg

  • Non-Action Guy: He considers himself a lover rather than a fighter.
  • Mr. Exposition: He's a member of The Network, who submit character files of the different characters of Earth 27.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Ash is a master biologist, chemist, cryptologist, physicist, meteorologist, researcher, and Engineer.
  • Omniglot: Speaks fluent English, Spanish, Latin, French, Arabic, Aramaic, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Russian, German, Atlantean, and Enochian.

A psychic acquainted with the Winchester brothers.

  • The Bartender: Her job at the Roundhouse.
  • Bouncer: Pamela often acts as the bouncer for the Harvelle Roadhouse. While she usually can use her powers to sedate rowdy customers or make use of her charms to get drunk hunters to settle down or leave, she has been known to also take matters into her own hands with a surprising measure of skill.
  • Composite Character: Pamela is combined with Becky Barnes, the daughter of Michael Barnes in the comics. Her middle name is Rebecca.
  • Family of Choice: As she considers the hunter community to be her surrogate family, she strives to help out wherever she can, particularly among her favorite hunting parties which she considers to be her friends, showing just how loyal she is.
  • Naytheist: Pamela identifies as an atheist. While her powers make her all too aware of the existence of deities, spirits, and the like, she reasons that she does not recognize any the authority of one true God and thus does not support any religion. She has little love for the residents of either Heaven or Hell, believing that both sides need to "[expletive] leaving Earth alone".
  • Parental Substitute: She had this type of relationship with Missouri Moseley, who was her mentor when understanding her powers, and she became a Big Sister Substitute with Patience Turner.
  • Psychic Powers: Just like Missouri Moseley, Pamela Barnes is a very gifted psychic with helpful and powerful psionic abilities.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Her father is Michael Barnes, who in Impact comics was the third hero known as The Shield. Her brother is Alan Barnes, who in the comics was known as Brainstorm.
  • The Tease: Pamela is a funny, witty-tongued, and an unapologetic flirt, who regularly wears her sexual attraction to any handsome men on sleeve.
  • Troll: She appears to enjoy figuratively rustling Castiel's feathers by challenging his views on all manner of subjects. She also uses his ignorance on humanity to torment him regularly.

Other Hunters

    Bobby Singer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bobby_singer_earth_27.jpg

  • Abusive Parents: His father Edward Singer was an abusive alcoholic.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Rather than naming his dog Rumsfeld after U.S. Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, he named it after Secretary of Defense, Wade Eiling.
  • Big Good: Always was and always will be this for the Hunter community and the Winchester brothers.
  • Catchphrase: Bobby often refers to people as "idjits" when they do something he considers to be stupid or not particularly well thought out. Nevertheless, being called an "idjit" by Bobby at some point is a rite of passage and a badge of honor among the Hunter sub-culture of America.
  • Book Smart: Despite being a junk dealer, he has an enormous well of knowledge and can read texts in multiple languages.
  • The Confidant: Sam, Dean, and occasionally Castiel often confide things in Bobby that they don't tell the others.

  • Only Sane Man: He's the only character who can take a step back and see the bigger picture.
  • Omniglot: Speaks fluent Spanish, Japanese, Aramaic, Latin, and Russian; he can even read Enochian.
  • Parental Substitute: Bobby makes it very clear that, to him, Sam and Dean are his boys.
  • Self-Made Orphan: When he was fifteen, he shot his abusive father to protect his abused mom. His mom was horrified by what he'd done, leading to her abandoning him without ever returning.
  • We Named the Monkey "Jack": He's such a big supporter of president Lex Luthor, he named his dog Eiling after Lex's defense secretary.

    Charlie Bradbury
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlie_bradbury_earth_27.jpg

  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears glasses while working on her computer and she's quite endearing.
  • The Charmer: Charlie has shown herself to be quite the niche charmer. She seems able to make just about any slightly geeky female with even a trace of girl-on-girl curiosity weak in the knees. Truth is, she seems to have the same effect on male geeks, too... until she tries to fake-flirt.
  • Composite Character: Being a surprise Winchester sibling makes her a composite with Adam Milligan, who was also John Winchester's third child.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father Charles was killed in a drunk driving accident. Turns out it wasn't an accident and although he didn't die, he did disappear on her.
  • Embarrassing Tattoo: Charlie has one on her left hip of Princess Leia in her slave bikini riding a twenty-sided die. In her defense, she was drunk and at HeroCon.

  • Pop-Cultured Badass: Charlie loves sci-fi and fantasy.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: She's a redhead, has green eyes, and is a Hunter.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: She doesn't have that many social skills.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: Her catchphrase.
  • Tomboyish Name: Charlie. It's not her real name, though. Her name is actually Celeste Middleton.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rufus_turner_earth_27.jpg

After she ended her shift he talked with her for a little bit, but due to Moseley sensing something evil from him she ran away. She ran into a werewolf and he saved her. After that Missouri joined him on the road and later married.
  • Twofer Token Minority: He's black and jewish. He became jewish while connecting with his foster mother Ramia Dickles.

    Missouri Moseley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/missouri_mosely_earth_27.jpg
Missouri is a psychic and hunter who lives in Keystone City and is close friends with John Winchester, having helped him begin his investigation into his wife's death.
  • Alliterative Name: Missouri Moseley.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: Making contact with a particularly insane or evil mind can cause Missouri tremendous pain and suffering. Sustained contact could even cause her to take on temporary insanity or lose consciousness for a considerable time.
  • Astral Projection: Missouri can project her consciousness outside of her body for short periods of time. Through this method, she can mentally travel to alternate facets of reality.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Missouri knows a lot about ghosts, spirits, daimons, demons, angels, fae, and other astral beings. In most cases, she knows how to identify the being by their psychic emanations alone but may rely on further investigative clues to make a proper diagnosis. Once identified, Missouri usually knows the means by which to dispel the spirit.
  • Fortune Teller: Missouri works as one in her day job to disguise her talents in plain sight.
  • Mind Manipulation: Missouri can place relaxed individuals in a state of hypnotic submission which could allow her greater access to their mind or allow her to guide them on the astral plane.
  • Magic Is a Monster Magnet: As a psychic, astral beings can interact with Missouri as though she were on the astral plane with them. Her psychic aura also makes her a more tempting target for supernatural predators like werewolves, vampires, and such. Fortunately, most seasoned paranormal predators usually have enough sense to keep their distance from a psychic for fear of being exposed.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: John Winchester first came to her for a reading and she told him he had the 'Hunter's Mark' and was the one who opened his eyes to 'what was in the dark'. John took Missouri to his house, hoping she could tell him what killed Mary. Unfortunately, Missouri could not tell what it was, just that it was "real evil".
  • Occult Detective: Though Missouri is more of an occult investigator than a hunter, she is profoundly familiar with the hunter culture and knows how to defend herself against supernatural threats.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: Instead of her grandmother, Missouri is Patience Turner's mother.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She's the estranged wife of Rufus Turner. Her nephew is Stuart Moseley, the hero known as Heckler.
  • Rescue Romance: Fell for Rufus when he saved her from a werewolf.
  • Telepathy: Missouri has the ability to read the thoughts of others. She can also communicate telepathically over considerable distances, provided she is rather familiar with the target.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: Missouri can see, hear, and interact with beings on the astral plane.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Her abilities first started manifesting after receiving the massive psychic disturbance caused by the Manhattaning.
  • Unhappy Medium: Missouri is capable of channeling ghosts and other spirits. She can also allow the use of her body as a vessel for those beings unable or unwilling to manifest on the corporeal plane.

    Gordon Walker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gordon_walker_earth_27.jpg
  • Badass Normal: Gordon is a very capable unarmed fighter, capable of fending off much stronger opponents than himself by using their momentum against them and utilizing pressure points and joint locks which mitigate the differences in strength.
  • Blade Enthusiast: As a seasoned hunter, Gordon is extremely skilled in the use of weapons. He is considerably adept with bladed weapons as he uses those to dispatch vampires - his specialized prey.
  • Demolitions Expert: Gordon has displayed a remarkable amount of skill in setting up explosives. He can easily rig traps with multiple tripwires.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: His unrelenting quest to rid the world of vampires has turned him into a killer hardly better than those he hunts.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Had one with Jo Harvelle, since she reminded him of his sister, but when she ended up endangering herself by going with him on one of his hunts, Ellen forced Gordon to cut contact.
  • Loners Are Freaks: His single-mindedness in hunting vampires prevented him from developing relationships with other hunters, who only saw him as a comrade-at-arms kept at arms' length at best.
  • Morality Chain: Losing his friendship with Jo Harvelle and killing his sister Torri for embracing vampirism made him lose all interest in humanity beyond hunting vampires.
  • Promotion to Parent: Losing his parents at a young age forced him to take care of his sister while they moved with an aunt and uncle.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Gordon hates vampires with an intense hatred that prevents him from focusing on much else when he is on the trail of a vampire or a vampire pack.
  • Scary Black Man: He's just human, but even then he's pretty intimidating.
  • Torture Technician: As a seasoned hunter, Gordon is extremely skilled in the use of weapons. He is considerably adept with bladed weapons as he uses those to dispatch vampires - his specialized prey.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He used to be on friendly terms with Bill Harvelle, Bobby Singer and John Winchester, but they became estranged once Gordon completely embraced his mindset of only focusing on hunting.

    Garth Fitzgerald IV
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garth_fitzgerald_iv_earth_27.jpg

Garth is a eccentric hunter who has teamed up with Sam and Dean on several occasions. He went to dental school before becoming a hunter and lives in a houseboat named Fizzles' Folly, which is probably named after his hand puppet that he uses to help children open up during cases.

  • Adaptation Origin Connection: The hunter who introduced him to the supernatural and trained him was Bobby Singer.
  • Badass Adorable: Despite his odd demeanor, he's a highly independent and resourceful hunter. He handles the same things the Winchester boys do on his own.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: He's easily intoxicated.
  • Consulting Mr Puppet: His sock puppet Mr. Fizzles.
