    In General
  • Apparently Human Merfolk: Pure blooded and especially atlanteans of Royal Blood look completely human with the exception of the gills on their necks.
  • Fish People: Atlantean mutants and those of common blood are more prone to develop fish-like characteristics.
  • Gender Is No Object: Atlanteans have no problem if their ruler is a man or a woman as long as they're of royal blood.
  • Heavier than It Looks: Atlanteans are far denser and heavier than a human of the same size in order to swim more easily and withstand the water pressure, making them much tougher as well.
  • Human Sub Species: Atlanteans descend from the Homo Magi that remained on Earth during the sinking of Atlantis, adapting to live underwater but still capable of interbreeding with normal humans.
  • Innate Night Vision: Due to adapting to the depths of the ocean, Atlanteans have a very acute night-vision even on the surface.
  • Super Swimming Skills: Unsurprisingly the inhabitants of Atlantis are much faster swimmers than regular humans.
  • Telepathy: In order to communicate with each other underwater, Atlanteans have a node in their brains that allows them to telepathically receive and transmit within short distances.
  • Underwater City: The Capital of Atlantis, Poseidonis. There's also the colony of Sub-Diego which was formed by survivors of the Manhattaning and later expanded with Atlantean immigration. Sub-Diego also has facilities that allows air-breathers to visit the city.

  • Arranged Marriage: Both her first and third marriage were arranged as part of an Altar Diplomacy, while with Tom Curry she married for love. She also arranged for her sons to marry, with Orin marrying Mera and Orm marrying Deb Perkins. While Arthur and Mera were a Perfectly Arranged Marriage, Orm and Deep Blue's marriage failed.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Her marriage to Orvax was brief but far from happy, and she clearly didn't care he went missing (Andraste had killed him).
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: She only had her Atlantean tattoos on her right arm and right leg.
  • Heroic Lineage: Eldest daughter of Queen Lorelei and King Consort Nuidis Honsu, she's the granddaughter of Nuada Silverhand and a descendant of the infamous Kordax as well as several other famous kings of Atlantis.
  • The High Queen: Atlanna was a master diplomat, politician, and world leader.
  • Interspecies Romance: She was an Atlantean in a relationship with the lighthouse keeper Tom Curry.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: She might have been the mother of two adult sons, but didn't look much older than them thanks to her heritage.
  • Older Than They Look: Her daimon heritage also gave her delayed aging, meaning she was still in her prime when she died at almost age 52.
  • Omniglot: Atlanna spoke Atlantean, Themysciran, English, Latin, Greek, and most of the other romance languages, as well as many African dialects. She had a gift for learning new languages due to her Gift of Kordax and would quickly develop fluency after being in close proximity to speakers over the course of a few days.
  • Parental Substitute: Served as a second mother for Garth after the death of his biological mother Barra, whom Atlanna had befriended.
  • Posthumous Character: Murdered by her own son Orm for naming Arthur her successor.
  • Prongs of Poseidon: Atlanna was the rightful wielder of the Trident of Atlan, gifted to her house by the god Poseidon before his departure from this plane of existence. Forged from aurichalcum and adamant, it serves as a symbol of the rightful ruler of Atlantis.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Not only Atlanna did her best to ensure her kingdom didn't went to war against the surface, she even tried to build better relationships with the drylanders using the community of Sub-Diego as an embassy of sorts.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She's the daughter of Lorelei and Honsu, niece of Nuidis Vulko and granddaughter of the daimon Nuada Silverhand.
  • Repetitive Name: Queen of Atlantis Atlanna ta'Atlan, which translates as "Atlanna of House Atlan".
  • Royal Blood: Atlanna was an Atlantean of remarkable heritage, believed to be descended from Poseidon and Triton, as well many of the Great Kings of Atlantis. She was considered to be a 'pure Atlantean' without magical mutation. She also has some daimon heritage which only makes her all the more powerful.
  • Royalty Superpower: Atlanna had the Gift of Kordax. In addition to giving her blonde hair, it gave Atlanna much more powerful psionic ability. Atlanna could probe the surface thoughts of individuals, project her thoughts into the minds of others, and gave her incredible insight that made her an incredible duelist, diplomat, and leader. This ability also allowed her to command sea-life.
  • Super-Toughness: Atlanna does not tire quickly, particularly underwater. She could swim for hours at supersonic speeds without tiring or suffering from muscle fatigue. She could go two days without sleep.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She stood at 6ft/183cm tall, and was very much beautiful.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: She was already set to marry Orvax of House Marius, but she hated him for his scheming and abusive personality, so she fell completely in love with the humble and loving Tom Curry.
  • Tattoo as Character Type: Just like her son, she has tattoos on both her right arm and leg.
  • Work Hard, Play Hard: Though she is dutiful to her kingdom and people, Atlanna was a habitual pleasure-seeker when stressed or able to postpone her royal duties.

    Orvax Marius
King Consort Orvax ta'Marius ro'Atlan is the late husband of Queen Atlanna, father of Orm Marius and Tula.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Despite already being married to Atlanna, he fancied the Amazon Andraste, who found him too pushy. He then acted like a total creep when he rescued Andraste from a storm and they only had sex when they got caught in an adrenaline-fueled spar.
  • Asshole Victim: That Atlanna never called for Andraste to be punished for killing Orvax shows she wasn't too pained at his death.
  • Conceive and Kill: Although he didn't knew it and never found out, Andraste killed him right after they had sex, and the product of that brief union was Tula.
  • Disappeared Dad: His son Orm was very young when he was killed, and his daughter Tula never got to meet him (thankfully).
  • Domestic Abuse: Heavily implied to Andraste that he would abuse his wife Atlanna into forgiving his affair. This made Andraste snap and beat him to death.
  • Hypocrite: While he recriminated Atlanna for being with Tom Curry before they married, he had no problem having an affair with Andraste while married to Atlanna.
  • Jerkass: What little is known about him is that he was an adulterer, a sleaze and most likely a domestic abuser too.
  • Posthumous Character: Already dead by the present day.
