Click for The Witchblade
Police Officer from Bludhaven and the wielder of the legendary artifact known as the Witchblade. She also happens to be friends with archaeologist Lara Croft.
  • Action Mom: Mother of Hope Pezzini, a police officer and the wielder of an incredibly powerful sentient weapon.
  • Amicable Exes: With Jackie Estacado, and they're uneasy allies due to the opposing natures
  • Barrier Warrior: The Witchblade can create protective barriers or wards to shield its bearer or others from harm or supernatural influence.
  • Chainmail Bikini: What the Witchblade can generously be called when Sara is wielding it, although thanks to its power and regenerative abilities, the exposed skin doesn't threaten her too much.
  • Dating Catwoman: She once dated Jackie Estacado before they ended up opposing each other, even if nowadays they're uneasy allies. She's also had relationships with Kenneth Irons and Ian Cunningham, who are also her enemies.
  • Dead Partner: Michael Yee, her friend and partner who died during the same incident that gave her the Witchblade.
  • Empathic Weapon: The Witchblade grants superhuman strength, speed, agility, and durability to its bearer. Though the levels of such fluctuate based on the needs of the bearer, the strength of the connection between relic and host, and the ambient magic and intrinsic forces of the environment — a baseline is Class IV Enhanced Strength, the ability to run and leap at a pace matching automobiles at highway speeds, and resiliency that sees small caliber guns leave bruises and scratches rather than puncturing her flesh.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Sara is an experienced law enforcement officer. She is highly skilled in investigation, police procedure, matters of the law and the American legal system, forensics, interrogation, and the various skills required in undercover work. She is highly-capable markswoman and hand-to-hand combatant as well.
  • Fair Cop: Police Officer and very attractive. It actually caused her some problems at the start of her career.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Sara is the responsible sibling to Julie's foolish sibling. Sara is a cop while Julie has gotten into trouble, and has even gone to jail for dealing drugs.
  • Healing Factor: Though able to instantly heal some of its bearer's wounds (or even the wounds of others), these are often quite draining to the Witchblade's power. Still, regardless of the severity of injuries to the bearer, most injuries will heal completely within three to four hours of rest — provided the Witchblade remains with the bearer during that period.
  • In-Series Nickname: Pezz, Babe of the Blade, Witchbabe.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: The Witchblade has a neckline that goes past her navel.
  • Official Couple: Currently dating Patrick Gleason.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father was a police officer who was killed in a car bombing and her mother died of cancer just a few years later, leaving her and her sister in the care of their aunt Ruth.
  • Red Baron: Bearer of the Blade, Lady of the Blade, Witchblade.
  • Sentient Weapon: Sara is a chosen bearer of a mystical, sentient gauntlet called the Witchblade. Made of equal parts holy magic and dark cosmic power, this arcane relic chooses its bearer and bonds with the, providing a range of supernatural powers and enhanced physicality. With a will of its own, the Witchblade is more than just a powerful weapon, its symbiotic relationship with its bearer often allows it to exert influence on its user, often guiding them.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: Though its default appearance is that of an armored glove and gauntlet, the Witchblade is able to alter its shape at will, transforming into an endless variety of forms, including various forms of weaponry, such as swords, whips, shields, or claws — usually incorporated into the design and function of the created armor of its bearer. When required to take on a more covert nature, the Witchblade can reduce itself to the appearance of a small, tasteful bracelet worn around its bearer's wrist.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Sara has been through some rough times. She has employed a tough, sarcastic personality to deal with the stress. She may, at times, push people away.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She stands at 5'9"/175cm tall and is pretty attractive.
  • Stripperiffic: The Witchblade manifests as a revealing armor.
  • Survivor's Guilt: She confides in the Witchblade that she feels guilty for surviving by being made its host while her partner and friend Michael Yee died.
  • Talking Weapon: The Witchblade can hear Sara's thoughts but also speak to her if he wants to.

    Jackie Estacado
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jackie_estacado_earth_27.jpg
Click for The Darkness
A former mafia hitman and the current wielder of the powerful entity known as The Darkness.
  • Action Dad: He has a daughter with Sara Pezzini, Hope Pezzini.
  • Affably Evil: He's a killer, but he can show kindness from time to time and he's got a sense of honor.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He always wears an impressive black suit and slacks, even when killing people.
  • Can't Have Sex, Ever: The Darkness wants to spread and so it plants its seed in its host's offspring so Jackie is unwilling to risk fathering any. As a rule if a male child of its host reaches the age of twenty-one, the Darkness violently transfers itself to the new, younger host — killing its former host in the process.
  • The Casanova: Prior to becoming the host for the Darkness, Jackie was known to be quite the ladies' man.
  • Casting a Shadow: The Darkness' host can create and mold shadows to their will. The deeper and darker the shadow, the more potential for creation.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Jackie wields the power of The Darkness, but he has a strong sense of honor and goes out of his way to protect those close to him.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Jackie is a career criminal and a former contract killer. He is highly-skilled in the use of firearms, close-quarters combat, poisons, and body disposal.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Ruthless as he is but he deeply cares for his friend Jenny Romano. He also cares about his daughter Hope Pezzini.
  • Heroic Host: At least Anti Heroic host, since he doesn't go out of his way to be evil but will never be fully heroic. Jackie is the present-day host of a former Lord of Chaos who has their physical form torn asunder and their name taken from them for past violations of ancient laws. The entity, now known as the Darkness, survives by anchoring itself to reality through a number of mortal hosts — the most prominent of which is the male line of the Estacado family.
  • I Have Many Names: Jackie Estes, Jackie De Vesci, Jaybird, The Darkness.
  • In-Series Nickname: Boss, Handsome Jack, Jack the Reaper, Pretty Boy Jack.
  • Mook Maker: For the most part, Jackie's Darklings are mischievous and crude creatures formed from shadow made into life. These impish beings act as his loyal soldiers and servants. These beings diligently follow his commands, protect him, and cater to his needs. The host connects with the Darklings telepathically, issuing orders and receiving updates from afar. Jackie can even tap into their senses to share perceptions. Sometimes, the Darklings will spawn without Jackie's intent — seemingly summoned into being by the Darkness itself to "assist" Jackie against his will.
  • Papa Wolf: Mess with Hope, and he will hunt you down and kill you. Mess with one of his crew, and he'll kill you even faster.
  • Powered Armor: The hallmark power of Darkness lies in its ability to forge a nigh-impervious mystical armor, known as the Shadowskin. This formidable armor immensely enhanced the wearer's physical capabilities, including strength, speed, and stamina, transforming the host into a formidable force capable of rivaling even the most powerful adversaries. The host's strength is estimated to be in the realm of Class VII Enhanced Strength. The host's speed varies, based on exposure to ambient light. In pitch black, the host moves instantaneously — flitting from shadow to shadow in the blink of an eye, but in dim light, the host can move at speeds exceeding human capability. Likewise, while in sufficiently dark areas, the host has no need for sleep, food, or air — surviving off shadow and darkness alone.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: The substance of the Shadowskin can modify itself as needed to serve the need of the host. For instance, the host can manifest wings to allow high speed flight or grow razor-sharp talons to tear through brick walls like butter.
  • Super-Senses: The Darkness heightens its host's senses, allowing them to see, hear, and interact with ephemeral beings — such as angels, demons, ghosts, and fae. The Darkness also has the ability to sense beings with strong ties to intrinsic darkness. Naturally, the host of the Darkness also has perfect nightvision.
  • Weakened by the Light: The powers of the Darkness draw their strength from intrinsic darkness, and shadow cannot exist where there is light. As such, the host is rendered mortal in the light of the sun. Most things created by the Darkness are burned away by strong light. The Darkness host can reinforce some creations with resistance to light — but doing so saps more of the Darkness' reserves of power. Likewise, weapons of light (such as lasers, fire, flash bangs) are harmful to the Darkness. There are rumors of an ancient dagger made of light for the sole purpose of killing the Darkness.

    Julie Pezzini

  • I Have Sisters: He has four sisters and was always close to his mother Brenda, which gave him some pro-feminist beliefs.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Jake masks his constant feelings of inadequacy and diminished self-confidence with humor. He also harbors a lot of survivor's guilt, which makes him all too willing to throw himself into danger to protect others he regards as being more important than himself.
  • Hunk: He's pretty good looking and manly.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's aware that Sara is the vigilante Witchblade.
  • Settle for Sibling: Due to his unrequited feelings for Sara, he has an on-and-off with her sister Julie.

  • Trenchcoat Brigade: Dud fancies himself quite the occultist and he does know a good deal more about that subject matter than his peers, appearing able to tap into the Darkness' collective store of knowledge to advice his master. He's also well-versed in all things John Constantine, including knowing the lyrics from the entire Muccus Membrane catalogue.

  • Hellbent For Leather: She wears a black leather jacket and a red leather corset.
  • Knight Templar: Fitting for an actual member, Celestine does seem to believe that she is genuinely doing what she must do. If her conviction can be shaken or her world-view called into question, she may break down.

  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: A red corset and black and red jacket, and she's not a very stable person.

Usually, he finds most success among zealots he can manipulate into giving their consent to give him greater reign over the body and mind. His current host is Gavin Taylor, a televangelist who was once involved with Julie Pezzini.
  • Energy Being: At some point, Sonatine shed his mortal form, becoming entirely ephemeral. However, he appears unable to manifest and must possess a mortal to interact with the physical realm.
  • Horror Hunger: A byproduct of his transformation into an immortal chthonic being is that Sonatine must drain power from the Host of the Darkness or risk fading away.
  • Lust: Like most creatures with a Seed of Darkness, Sonatine is a sexual creature. Even before he was possessed, Gavin Taylor was also driven by lust.
  • Mind Reading: Sonatine is a great occultist and sorcerer, particularly in the field of mentalism.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He was born in 1640, and has remained alive by possessing bodies.

  • Supernatural Golden Eyes: His eyes are glowing gold and he's a cthonic entity who serves a dark entity.

  • Determinator: Apollonia is very determined, likely in possession of an indomitable will.

  • Fur and Loathing: She wears a fancy white coat and she can be rather spiteful.

  • Pride: Apollonia is convinced she is better and smarter than most others.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Her black dress comes with a slit for her left leg, highlighting her looks.
