Star Fox Team

    Fox McCloud

"Star Fox is my team, not my name!"
Click here to see (Past) Fox

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

The leader of the current Star Fox team, taking after his father.

  • Ace Pilot: Leader of a team of expert pilots, got a near-perfect score on his flight academy test as a child, and shoots down Wolf, himself a skilled pilot, in a dogfight.
  • Always Someone Better: Implied to be this for Wolf. He shoots him down in a dogfight in Episode 1, and as a kid in Episode 2, Wolf is impressed Fox reaches level 9 in a video game and is annoyed by Fox's 99% CFA test score.
  • Berserk Button: Fox does not like being called by his team name Star Fox instead of his actual name, apparently having heard it way too often.
Fox: AW FOR GOD'S SAKE! My name is Fox McCloud, Star Fox is my team, not my name.
    • Wolf seems to push one hard when he mocks the fact that the Star Fox team is in Halloween costumes.
  • Cheerful Child: When he was young Fox was a happy kid enjoying video games and wanting to stay out of danger.
  • Child Prodigy: Got a 99% score on his Cornerian Flight Academy test as a youth and expected to be a technician. Presumably, seeing Wolf fly a ship in episode 2 is what changed his mind into becoming a pilot, despite James not wanting him anywhere near ships.
  • Famed In-Story: As respected as his father James was, it seems Fox is maybe even more famous: his Venomian captors are in awe of him even as they're holding him at gunpoint, multiple people in the Sargasso Lounge are excited to see him, and even Andross admires Fox despite Fox foiling his plans.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Wears boxers with "docking request granted" written on them.
  • I Am Not Shazam: In-universe, Fox is very particular to point out "Star Fox" is the name of his team, not his name.
  • The Leader: Fox leads the team of good guys fighting against an aggressive military dictatorship.
  • Precocious Crush: Has a subtle one on Fara as a youth in Episode 2—something Wolf quickly picks up on and embarrasses him about.
  • Taking Up the Mantle: Becomes leader of the Star Fox team, just like his father before him.
  • The Teetotaler: As Wolf finds out when he takes Fox to the Sargasso Lounge, Fox doesn't drink alcohol. Wolf finds this hilarious.

    Falco Lombardi

"One step ahead of ya, old man."
Click here to see (Past) Falco

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

Member of the current Star Fox team.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: So far he's shown none of the sarcasm, arrogance, or Only in It for the Money tendencies seen in his other versions, and seems to be on pretty good terms with all his fellow team members. In particular, he's the first person to worry about where Fox is in Episode 1 and takes the initiative to find him.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: This Falco is much more laid-back than the versions seen in the games and comes off as a bit of a friendly jock (though still a skilled pilot).
  • Big Damn Heroes: Concept art of later episodes hint he finds Fox and rescues him from his Venomian captors.
  • Buffy Speak: He doesn't seem to be the most tech-savvy guy, asking Slippy to do "the computer check thingy" to find out where Fox is.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue oni to Fox's red, which is a reverse of most versions. Fox is much more into playing video games and gets annoyed by Star Wolf antics fast while Falco sounds much more laid-back.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: In both the present-day and as a teenager, his casual outfits are sleeveless.

    Slippy Toad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/10_slippy.png
"Slow it down, Slippy."

Voiced by: Angel Escolabes Jr.

A member of the current Star Fox team, and the son of Beltino Toad.

    Peppy Hare
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/current_peppy.png
"My man."
Click here to see (Past) Peppy

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

A member of the current Star Fox team, as well as the original with James McCloud.

  • Adaptation Name Change: A minor case in that while his first name is still Peppy, the files on him that Andross is reading reveal that it's short for Pepperidge.
  • Aliens of London: Has a distinct Southern accent.
  • Bring It: Dares Sonny to try and crush Rob 64.
Peppy: Oh, I wish you would!
  • Cool Old Guy: By far the oldest member of the group (in his 40s or perhaps 50s by the time of Episode 1, based off the file Andross is looking at in Episode 2), having served with James on the original team. While he may be the most serious of the current four and doesn't play video games like they do, he still gets along great with the other members and is an Ace Pilot.
  • Improvised Weapon: Grabs a tire iron during his and James' standoff with Sonny.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Was James' best friend back in the day, and is close with James' son Fox in the present.
  • Properly Paranoid: Peppy is the only member of the team who's worried about their security detail on Fortuna before they go; as they get attacked by Star Wolf while there, he was right to be concerned. He also doesn't trust Pigma when he shows up to help on Venom and is proven right yet again when Pigma betrays James to Andross. Even further, both he and James had a bad feeling about the Venom mission ever since Pepper briefed them on it. James even said they probably wouldn't realize how bad it would get until they were already in the thick of it.
  • Rage Quit: Peppy loses a game to Slippy in the Episode 1 opening titles and throws his cards into the air in frustration.
  • Undying Loyalty: To James, going with him on an extremely risky mission to Venom even when both men can sense that it's going to go sideways.

    James McCloud
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15_james.png
"I'll go it alone from here."

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

Father to Fox McCloud, and the leader of the original Star Fox team.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Uses marbles in his slingshot and is willing to use peppermints, too.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The games don't go into much detail into James' life, his personality, or the exact circumstances of his disappearance. Here he's much more fleshed out: in addition to founding the Star Fox team, he was a former marshal and scientist, and we see what sort of person he was, as well as witness his mission to Venom.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While still a skilled pilot like in the games, James in this series is also a scientist; he met his wife Vixy and Andross working on a project with them, and Andross insists James is a scientist at heart like him.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Generally a sign of how close someone is to him is whether they call him "James" or "Jim". People that he's distant with, such as General Pepper and Andross, use the former, while those he's closer with, such as Peppy, Dess, and Pigma, use the latter.
  • Badass Boast: Towards Sonny when the latter asks if he thinks if he's going to take him out with a rubber ball launched from his slingshot.
James: They'll be picking it out of the wall if you cut him.
  • Baritone of Strength: Unlike Fox, who has a relatively high-pitched voice as an adult, James's voice is about as low as Wolf's, and he is noticeably taller and sturdier than his son.
  • Big Damn Heroes: James and Peppy rescue Beltino Toad and ROB 64 from a couple of goons trying to get info on the Arwing.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Shoots Sagan without warning to immediately make the standoff with Sonny a 2-vs-1, snatches a few peppermints to use as ammo for his slingshot when his marbles get confiscated, and attempts to karate chop the much larger and stronger Rhys when the latter grabs him.
  • Cool Shades: He sports a pair as in canon, though they're less opaque than usual.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: At the start of Episode 2, James is convinced by Pepper to go to Venom because he owes Pepper a favor for "what happened on Titania." He's also hesitant to talk about it when Peppy asks. By the end of the episode, we learn what happened: a warp-gate incident killed Vixy (and possibly lost James his hand); he also got a glimpse of what Andross also saw beyond the portal. While Pepper shielded James from any consequences because they're friends, Andross wasn't so lucky.
  • Death by Origin Story: Just like in the games, Episode 1 makes it clear that James has been missing for quite some time, and is presumed dead to boot, leaving Fox to lead the team. Episode 2 states his ill-fated mission took place ten years before Fox's capture on Papetoon.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation:
    • In the source material, James is fully able-bodied. Here, he wears a prosthetic limb to replace his missing left hand, which doubles as a slingshot.
    • It's also possible he may be partially blind (or otherwise has vision problems), as his eyes are noticeably greyer than the other characters (who have the typical black dot to represent their pupil and iris) and he wears Sunglasses at Night.
  • Handicapped Badass: Has a prosthetic limb to replace his missing left hand which also holds a slingshot, and he's quite skilled at using it as a deadly weapon, as he demonstrates by knocking out Sagan with one shot.
  • Helicopter Parent: Fox tells Fara that his father doesn't want his son anywhere near ships, likely out of a desire to protect him after losing his wife (and Fox's mother) Vixy to the teleporter accident on Titania.
  • Improvised Weapon: He uses the two prongs on his prosthesis as a slingshot; Eckblade even refers to it as an "improvised shooting instrument." Also, while he normally uses marbles as ammo, he's able to think on the fly when they get confiscated and grabs a few peppermints to use instead, in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Once his chop to Rhys' neck fails, James decides to come quietly and makes no further attempts to escape.
  • Noodle Incident: Rather than tell his best friend exactly what happened on Titania, he chooses to sum it up thus:
"I made a mistake. Pepper made it go away."
    • Meanwhile, the series itself may be resolving the Noodle Incident with the reveal of what James and Peppy were sent to retrieve: data recorded by James' late wife Vixy regarding a black hole.
  • Oh, Crap!: James does one of these when he sees Dess slumped in his seat, and he's not answering him.
  • Properly Paranoid: When Peppy shares the bad feeling he's getting about the Venom operation, he states James feels it too. James does not deny it. Sure enough, not long after arriving at Beltino Toad's workplace, they notice the lights are off and a rock is propping the door open, as two goons have taken Beltino and ROB hostage, and they end up rescuing them. And then his old acquaintance Dess Coba dies getting him Vixy's data, followed by Pigma handing him over to Andross. And that's leaving out him being presumed dead ten years later in Fox's time.
  • The Stoic: James is cool and collected at all times, even when Pepper practically blackmails him into going on the Venom mission, Peppy asks about Titania, two people are shot right next to him, a trusted colleague betrays him, or when he's captured by Andross' agents. The closest he's come so far to losing his composure is when Dess hands him Vixy's data, saying it's what Pepper sent them to Venom for.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Is seen wearing his trademark shades even in low lighting, such as when he and Peppy are being briefed by Pepper, or are driving to Beltino's workplace. This plus his eye colors suggest he's either going blind or otherwise has vision problems.
  • Tap on the Head: James apparently knows how to do the "karate chop to the neck" variety, since without hesitation he tries it on Rhys when he is captured.
  • Tranquil Fury: James gets noticeably angry (but manages to keep his cool) when Dess hands him the floppy disks that initially belonged to Vixy. It's clear he isn't happy with being reminded of his past or his late wife.

Corneria

    General Pepper
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/04_pepper.png
"Don't forget what happened on Titania, James. You owe me one, and I'm calling it in."
Voiced by: Ric Tonks

A high-ranking officer of the Cornerian military, and the one which has the most interaction with the Star Fox team.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Downplayed. Pepper is the Big Good of the game series, and there's nothing to imply he's anything but benevolent. Here, while he's not seen doing anything especially evil per se, he's willing to call in a favor to send James on a highly dangerous mission, and James believes the information on Vixy's tapes is no safer with Pepper than it is with Andross.
  • Mythology Gag: He's seen with a lollipop, a reference to his appearance in the comics.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Protects James from any consequences of what happened on Titania (the warp-gate incident that killed Vixy), keeping him from getting exiled like Andross was...
  • You Owe Me: ...but later holds this over James' head to get him to do a risky mission for Corneria on Venom to retrieve Vixy's data.

    Fara Phoenix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/28_fara.png
"A horrible, life-ruining disaster of an idea..."

Voiced by: Kim Miley

Wolf's girlfriend and the daughter of a politician running for Premier of Corneria.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Fara struggles to keep herself from laughing as Cael makes fun of Wolf's pouty face.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Is attracted to Wolf, someone she explicitly points out is trying to have a "bad boy" persona.
  • Cool Big Sis: Acts like this to Fox, trying to shield him from Wolf's bullying and encouraging him to become a pilot.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Wolf thinks Fara is doing this by being his girlfriend, but Fara thinks her father would love Wolf if they met.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Fara is obviously heartbroken once she realizes Wolf took advantage of her to steal a fighter jet.
  • Hidden Buxom: Fara spends most of her screentime in a modest green jacket, but the T-shirt she wears beneath is rather tight and shows she's fairly busty.
  • Interspecies Romance: Fara is a fennec fox in a relationship with a wolf.
  • Tranquil Fury: Fara's shock and sadness at Wolf using her visibly transforms into silent anger a few seconds later.
  • Uptown Girl: The daughter of an influential Cornerian politician, dating "bad boy" Wolf.

    Beltino Toad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25_beltino.png
"Well... without any further attempted corporate espionage, we gotta get you two in the air."

Voiced by: Joshua Gotay

Slippy's father, and the person in charge of the Space Dynamics research lab.

  • Defiant Captive: He isn't scared of Sonny and Sagan in the slightest, and even when they threaten to crush ROB 64 if he doesn't cooperate, he apparently manages to avoid giving them any important information about the Arwing.
  • Generation Xerox: Looks and acts a ton like Slippy, though he doesn't have his son's stutter.
  • Mission Control: Gives James and Peppy the rundown of what their mission to Venom will be and provides them with the Arwings to get there.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: The main physical difference between Beltino and Slippy is that Beltino has a mustache.

    ROB 64
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rob_64.png

Voiced by: Kay Ross

A robot that works with Beltino Toad.

  • Distressed Dude: Gets captured by Sonny and Sagan in order to blackmail Beltino.
  • Loose Lips: Accidentally spills information about the Arwings when he wakes up.
ROB 64: Beltino, you did not tell them about the G-Diffuser, did you?
Sonny: No, ROB, you just did!
    ROB: ...I did?
    Beltino: You did.

    Cael O'Donnell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/14_cael.png
"You mind playing chaperone? I gotta catch up on my stories."
Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

Wolf's father and an old friend of James.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Cael isn't afraid to embarrass Wolf in front of his girlfriend, making fun of both his hair and his face while Fara tries not to laugh.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Cael is a lot more observant and shrewd than one might guess from his looks. He immediately notices Fara's done up her eyes and thus must be going somewhere special with Wolf, as well as that Wolf couldn't have gotten a haircut like Cael gave him money to do. However, he still fails to pick up that Wolf is about to run away from home.
  • Badass Biker: The intro credits to Episode 2 show him riding on a motorcycle, complete with leather jacket.
  • Baritone of Strength: A great big wolf who has perhaps the deepest voice in the series.
  • Death Glare: Gives Wolf an epic one, stopping his son mid-complaint.
  • Good Parents: Downplayed; he's gruff, stern, and more than willing to put his son in his place and embarrass him in front of his girlfriend, but he's totally fine with Wolf and Fara going out and giving some money when asked. He's hospitable enough to let his son stay in his house to get away from his "crazy woman mother", and he's on good terms with the McCloud family, judging by how often he babysits Fox whenever James is on a mission and how he and Fox seem completely comfortable around each other.
  • Meaningful Look: When Fox wonders where his dad's gone off to, Cael subtly gives the boy a somber, sympathetic look.
  • Noble Bigot: A slur he gives in passing about Wolf's hairdresser indicates he's got some prejudices.
  • Retired Badass: Implied in the intro of episode 2 as something of a fourth member of the old Star Fox crew.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: Subverted. Like Wolf, Cael is one of the few characters with yellow sclera, but unlike his manipulative son, Cael seems to be a decent, trustworthy fellow. That being said, he also is in debt to a Polish/Russian mixed mob family.

    Fay Spaniel and Miyu Lynx
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/16_fay_and_miyu.png
Pictured: Fay (Left), Miyu (Right)

Voiced by: Beck Watts (Fay), Olivia Thorington (Miyu)

Two pilots that work with Bill Grey.

  • Adaptational Job Change: They were both team members of Star Fox in Star Fox 2. In the show, however, they work with Bill at the Cornerian air base and seemingly have no connection to Star Fox.
  • Age Lift: In the source material, both Fay and Miyu are implied to be around the same age as Fox, or a little younger. Here they're older, about the same age as Wolf.
  • Flipping the Bird: Miyu does a good-natured one to Wolf when he questions their flying skill.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Miyu is the more assertive and confident of the two, staying calmer while looking for a piece of equipment, flipping off Wolf, and watching with amusement as Wolf and Bill trade insults. Fay, on the other hand, is alarmed during the argument and stressed when she and Miyu can't find the part they're looking for.
  • Species Surname: While their last names were never given in any official Star Fox media, this series gives them last names after their respective species.

    Bill Grey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17_bill.png
"Well, fill your boots, you one-eyed knob!"

Voiced by: Matt Delano

A young pilot who's over Fara, Faye, and Miyu at the Cornerian air base.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the games, Bill was Fox's friend. While he still could be in this series later on, his Age Lift means he's introduced as an old buddy of Wolf's first.
  • Age Lift: In the game series, he went to the CFA with Fox, Slippy, and Falco. Here, he's around Wolf's age.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Delivers an absolutely devastating burn to Wolf.
Wolf: What do these otherwise lovely ladies bring to the table that I don't?
    Bill: How about depth perception?
[Fay and Miyu gasp and exchange glances.]
  • Minnesota Nice: In Star Fox 64, Bill talked like a Surfer Dude. Here, he has more of a Minnesotan accent (or maybe Canadian). He's also good friends with Wolf and lets him stay on the airbase despite being discharged... which maybe wasn't the best idea.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he sees Wolf flying in the horizon with a spaceship Bill was supposed to guard.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He exchanges a few insults with Wolf before hugging him.

    Carlo and Tina Lombardi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/falcos_parents.png
Pictured: Carlo (Left), Tina (Right)

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford (Carlo), Tiana Camacho (Tina)

Falco's father and mother.

  • Abusive Parents: Carlo has a bad temper when Falco raises his voice.
  • Hypocrite: Carlo and Tina take offense at Falco taking the Lord's name in vain, but Carlo has no problem using strong language himself, and Tina only lets out a mild "Language, Carlo..." in response.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Carlo is dismissive of his son accusing two people from stealing his scooter standing outside the restaurant but if Falco doesn't have proof Carlo can't just go out and accuse them. Tina points out Carlo already got in trouble before doing something like that.
  • Precision F-Strike: Carlo dishes out the series' sole F-bomb when he tells Falco to shut up.

    Desslar Coba
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/18_dess.png
"... This is... such an ugly planet..."

Voiced by: Joshua Gotay

A lemur working undercover on Venom to get some crucial information for General Pepper. James meets him on the train, and he dies shortly after. From the introduction of "Star Fox: Mission File Printout", an official 1993 Nintendo guidebook. https://glitterberri.com/guidebook-intro/

  • All for Nothing: Dess gets fatally wounded while delivering Vixy's disks to James so Andross won't get them. James gets captured immediately after.
  • Almost Dead Guy: He sounds exhausted in his message to Pepper, and by the time he meets James, Desslar is struggling to stay conscious as he is about to expire. As soon as he's able to, he allows himself to fall asleep, presumably allowing his heart rate and blood pressure to crash, finishing him off.
  • Determinator: It's not clear how long he's been holding off death, but he manages to survive long enough to give James Vixy's disks.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Dess has these under his eyes—the first hint that he's not doing well.
  • Miles to Go Before I Sleep: Desslar was somehow fatally wounded while regaining the disks, and he knows it. But he manages to hold on for hours, possibly days, to get the data to Corneria and James. He barely lasts a few more minutes once he finally gets Vixy's disks into James' hands and promptly dies in his seat on the train.
  • Riddle for the Ages: What exactly killed Dess? Also, how did he get Vixy's research disks? The answers to these questions are left unanswered. Dess even lampshades it.
Desslar: You don't have any friends, Jim. Don't think too hard about it.
  • Secretly Dying: Sometime prior to his meeting with James he gets mortally wounded, but he hides this from James during their meeting, saying he's just tired from lack of sleep.
  • Sleep Deprivation: When James asks if Dess is alright, he plays it off as having no sleep, but he's secretly dying.

    Vixy McCloud
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fosvixy.png
Pictured: Vixy (Right) with her husband, James (Left)

James' wife and Fox's mother. She cooperated with him and Andross on the warp-gate project on Titania, but an accident resulted in her death.

  • Adaptation Name Change: Her surname in the Nintendo Power comic was Reinard, in the series she had chosen to go by her married name as seen by the label on her disks.
  • Posthumous Character: Died years ago before the series started.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite having no screentime, her death from the project gone horribly wrong resulted in Andross being repatriated for it and General Pepper shielding James from the brunt of the fallout. Dess handing James her disks temporarily puts him into Tranquil Fury, as he wanted to bury the project and everything related to his past.

Star Wolf Team

    Wolf O'Donnell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/01_wolf.png
"You know I'm your biggest fan..."
Click here to see (Past) Wolf

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

Leader of the Star Wolf team, and the main rival to Fox McCloud.

  • Adaptational Sympathy: The games don't delve too much into Wolf's backstory. Here, he comes from a broken home and is presumably discharged from the Cornerian Flight Academy due to an incident that cost him his eye.
  • Affably Evil: Wolf is a backstabbing mercenary but tries to be good company.
  • Ascended Extra: Wolf was by no means a minor character in the games, but here he's played major roles in both episodes.
  • Big Brother Bully: Because of how close he and Fox's dads were, Fox used to stay over when James was on a mission. Wolf being older and rocking a bad-boy persona didn't get along well with the Cheerful Child and loved picking on him. Even as an adult, Wolf still pulls pranks on Fox, like tossing his clothes out of the spaceship.
  • Career-Ending Injury: He lost his left eye prior to the series, ending his career as a Cornerian pilot. Bill needles him about it when he sneaks on base to steal a ship, and while the two laugh it off, it's clear it's still a sore spot for him.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Wolf is fond of flashing large, toothy grins. While it looks like a Slasher Smile due to his fangs, he usually is just about to screw with someone, not hurt them.
  • Defensive "What?": He gives a silent one to Pisci when he glares at him at the Sargasso Lounge. It most likely has to do the fact that he threw Fox's clothes out of the ship before they took off.
  • Detrimental Determination: In the opening dogfight of Episode 1, even when all his teammates have been taken out, Wolf refuses to surrender to Fox (maybe out of pride) and gets shot down.
  • Deuteragonist: While Fox is the protagonist in Episode 1 and James in Episode 2, Wolf is the second most prominent character in both. He's the main person Fox is interacting with in the present day, and in Episode 2 he has his own subplot manipulating multiple people to steal a fighter jet and leave Corneria.
  • Evil Is Petty: Tosses Fox's clothes out of the spaceship after Fox gets captured, just so Fox will be awkward and uncomfortable afterward. Also, when they were younger, he humiliates Fox for having a crush on Fara.
  • The Gadfly: He enjoys messing with people just to amuse himself, with Fox being one of his favorite targets.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: It's implied he feels insecure about Fox's skills, which is why he picks on him as both a youth and later as an adult.
  • Interspecies Relationship: He's a wolf who once dated a fennec fox.
  • It's All About Me: Episode 2 shows the depth of his selfishness, with him manipulating everyone who still liked him for his own benefit, and getting them into a heap of trouble in the process.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Sure, he's working for Andross and is especially petty and mean around Fox, but his love for Fara and friendship with Bill means he can't be that bad at heart, right? Wrong. He's more than willing to take advantage of his girlfriend and former colleague to steal a Cornerian fighter jet, knowing full well that they're going to get into loads of trouble for it. Granted, he's stealing it to pay off his dad's debt and he tried to let Fara off gently, but he was still too much of a coward to leave her properly.
  • Lovable Rogue: He is quite charming and amiable, even if he's spiteful and dishonest. He also acts this way to get people to lower their guard around him.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Expertly takes advantage of his father, his girlfriend, and his friend Bill in order to steal a fighter jet.
  • Nightmare Face: Makes one when he threatens to break Fox's neck to stop him from escaping Andross's custody.
  • Not So Above It All: His rant about Fox always staying in his home when James is away is cut short when he realizes Fox is on level 9 of his video game, sounding slightly impressed, before going back to his rugged greaser attitude.
  • Smug Snake: He talks big and has some cunning but Fox sees him and his team as more of an annoyance than archenemies. It won't stop him and his team to act like they own the place than trying to find a way to avoid Andross' ire after a failure.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: His only response to Fox shooting down his Wolfen is a deadpan "Aw, come on..."
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: The O'Donnells used to be a decent family if the photo of them looking happy in Episode 2 is any indication, but they all fell apart somehow. Wolf's dad is a hardass (but he still means well), his mom went nuts, God knows what happened to his sibling, and Wolf lost his eye and became the jerk we know him as in the series.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: Wolf is one of the few characters in the series with yellow sclera and definitely can't be trusted.

    Leon Powalski
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/02_leon.png
"Shoot me down, if you can."

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

A member of the Star Wolf team.

  • Bad Guys Play Pool: He's seen participating in billiards at the Sargasso Lounge.
  • Eye Scream: Loses his eye during a crash in the opening firefight of Episode 1.
  • A Glass in the Hand: Non-glass variant: he snaps the tip off his pool cue when seeing Fox in the Sargasso Lounge.
  • Smug Snake: Like the rest of Star Wolf, he has one cocky line before getting destroyed off-screen by Star Fox. It overlaps with Tempting Fate, resulting in him exclaiming his disbelief upon defeat.
Leon: Shoot me down if you can.
  • This Cannot Be!: Like in the games he yells "This can't be happening!" when he is about to crash.

    Pigma Dengar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pigma_31.png
"Peppy! Long time no see!"
Click here to see (Past) Pigma

Voiced by: Deven Mack

A member of the Star Wolf team, and a member of the original Star Fox team before siding with Dr. Andross.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. In the games, Pigma is an irredeemable scumbag. Here, while he still betrays James like in the games, a few moments imply he at least felt bad about it. He's also at least self-aware that he's a horrible person, and thinks Andross is crazy.
  • At Least I Admit It: Pigma is fully aware that everyone hates him for his greedy ways, and isn't offended when Peppy (and even Andross) point it out in front of him.
Pigma: Everyone knows I'm an asshole. I was born this way.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Exploited by Pigma: he appears to save James from Eckblade and his partner in order to shore up James' trust in him... right before he leads James into getting captured by Rhys.
  • Demolitions Expert: He's seen blowing up a tank in the Episode 2 opening credits.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Money-loving mercenary he may be, but he still thinks Andross is "a friggin' lunatic."
  • Faux Affably Evil: He tries to act joyful and prides himself as an asshole but he is willing to kill and turn on anyone if the money is good.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Peppy didn't like him when he was on the Star Fox team, and it seems even Andross isn't too fond of him as well. He's also not seen hanging out with Star Wolf in the Sargasso Lounge after their defeat in the Episode 1 intro, either.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Various characters in the story smoke, but Pigma's the only one to prefer big fat cigars.
  • Hollywood Silencer: Uses one to kill Eckblade and his partner in Episode 2, complete with the classic "fwip" sound.
  • Only in It for the Money: His introduction in Episode 2's opening credits is him counting money. It's also why he betrays James to Andross later on.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: In Episode 2, he has no real loyalty to Andross and appears to feel bad about betraying James. Judging by how he taunts Peppy in Episode 1, though, it seems he's become even nastier in the present day and enjoys what he's doing apart from getting paid for it.
  • Smug Snake: Like the rest of Star Wolf, he has one cocky line before getting destroyed off-screen by Star Fox.
Pigma: Peppy, long time no see.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: While Pigma still betrays James and gets him captured by Andross's goons, he seems to regret what he did on some level, given how sad he looks during the car ride. Fast forward to how he taunts Peppy in Episode 1, Pigma likely got used to his line of work and became worse as time went by.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Used to work on the same team as James and Peppy. Downplayed as he was more of James' friend than Peppy's, as the latter admits he wasn't a fan of him.

    Andrew Oikonny

"You guys should just turn around and leave because you don't wanna piss off my uncle."

Voiced by: Jane Barnstien

Member of the Star Wolf team, and nephew to Dr. Andross.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: The original Andrew was a notorious Smug Snake, so much so that Wolf kicked him off the team. This Andrew seems much more laid-back and friendly.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: Andrew here is quieter and more introspective than in the games, and seems to have been a friend of Fox's at one point.
  • Affably Evil: Instead of mocking or taunting Star Fox, he simply warns them about his uncle’s temper in a very friendly manner. Even when he’s talking to fellow villains, he doesn’t come across as particularly malicious.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Seemingly subverted. In the games, Andrew was only on Star Wolf because of his connections to Andross. Here, he comes up with a plan to capture Fox and Wolf takes him seriously.
  • Minor Major Character: Despite kicking off the show by providing the necessary info to capture Fox, he’s only seen in flashbacks (and a quick cameo at a bar).
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He’s directly responsible for kicking off the events of the show by informing Wolf about Fox’ whereabouts.
  • Smug Snake: Like the rest of Star Wolf, he has one cocky line before getting destroyed off-screen by Star Fox. He is not as bad as in the games, however.
Andrew: You guys should just turn around and leave because you don't wanna piss off my uncle.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Was Fox's roommate in college. He regretfully wonders to himself if he was ever actually friends with Fox.

Venom

    Venom in general
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/05_andross_2.png
Pictured: Andross (Middle) with several of his henchmen

  • Aliens of London: Lots of the Venomians are given Russian accents.
  • Cyborg: Andross' top henchmen (and possibly State Sec) have cybernetic eyes and seemingly enhanced strength. The ones seen in the flashbacks have the same eyes as Andrew did during the Star Wolf encounter on Venom in Star Fox 64. The ones in modern times have a red visor.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: In the past they were something of a Soviet era Russia, with accents and premier elected or selected by one cabinet party.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Most of the officers treat working for Andross as part of their jobs. Sergeant Kromer in episode 1 detains Fox but holds no personal ill-will towards him, unlike Wolf.
  • Red and Black Totalitarianism: Andross and most of his followers wear red and black outfits. Venom as a whole has a strong red color scheme going on, possibly to evoke being a Fantasy Counterpart Culture to the Soviet Union.
  • Secret Police: The VIA serves as Andross' top enforcers and is a major threat to the original Star Fox team's mission to infiltrate Venom.

    Andross

"Only I have the brains to rule Lylat."
Click here to see (Past) Andross

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

Dr. Andross, Premier of Venom and Big Bad of the series.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In the first SNES game and 64, Andross was exiled to the uninhabited planet Venom due to his unlawful experiments. In this series, Venom has a thriving society of mostly primates, and Andross was a native who was expatriated before rising to dictatorship.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Andross in the games is a power-hungry megalomaniac with little to no sympathetic traits or positive qualities. Andross here is polite and well-spoken, and while he's still willing to kill or start a war to get what he wants, he does seem to genuinely care for some people (like James) and claims in private that ruling Lylat is only a means to a nobler end, which is protecting the system from a worse threat, implied to be the Aparoids.
  • Adaptational Wimp: So far Andross has not displayed any sort of combat ability, let alone enough to be a Final Boss like in the games.
  • Affably Evil: Andross is playing up his image of gentleman and scholar by being polite and welcoming. He also thinks he should rule the galaxy with an iron fist because he is the smartest and will force people to submit to his rule.
  • Benevolent Boss: Zigzagged. He treats his henchmen well if they do their job, but he's still willing to kill a few if it helps his plans.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the series.
  • Emperor Scientist: His medical expertise and ability to make cyborgs both seem to be key reasons for his rise to power, and upon getting elected premier, he explicitly says only he has the brains to rule Lylat.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Andross doesn't have a high opinion of mercenaries, and isn't afraid to say so in front of one.
  • Evil Costume Switch: When Andross is first dropped off on Venom, he's wearing a white labcoat, showing he's just a gifted scientist who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got blamed for it. Two years later he wears red and black, showing his rise to leader of a military dictatorship. Ten years later in Episode 1, he's wearing all black.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Andross has a very deep bass voice, lower than even Wolf's. By the time of the present day in Episode 1, there's a bit of reverberation on it, too.
  • Evilutionary Biologist: In addition to being a Robot Master, this version of Andross seems to be heavily focusing on biotech such as creating cyborgs. It's suggested that it was advances in medicine that won him his populist support.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Inverted; Andross only wore glasses when he was a relative good guy. He ditched them once he began his slip into villainy.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Andross went from a gifted scientist working for Corneria to a dictator powerful enough to try and take over the whole system.
  • Interspecies Romance: It's implied he had feelings for James' wife Vixy, though it's not known if he ever told her or if she rejected him.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: He likely was an honest, benevolent scientist before the warp-gate incident, but after being expatriated, his expertise in medicine and biotechnology helped his rise to dictatorship.
  • Narcissist: He believes that his genius entitles him to seize control of Lylat, for its own good.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Andross says that he and James are alike in that they are both scientists at heart.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: By the present day, his eyes have a red gleam to them, further enhancing his menace.
  • Tranquil Fury: He is deeply hurt that James never reached out to him but tries to stay courteous and forgiving as he needs James. Played much less seriously in the first episode where he lowers his voice to menacingly ask Wolf what happened to the rest of Fox's clothes.
  • Villain Respect:
    • Sergeant Kromer says Andross admires Fox, and Wolf even goes so far as to say Andross is "a bit of a fan."
    • Has a good deal of admiration for his former colleague James, enough to orchestrate James' capture so Andross can politely ask for his help.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: In the space of two years, Andross goes from a nobody on Venom to popular enough to become premier. Studio audiences cheer him loudly enough that the hostess has to ask them to quiet down, and while the leaders of Venom ultimately decide to just appoint him premier without an election, it's expected he would've won easily. By the looks of things, a big part of Andross' public image is advertising himself as a kind doctor taking care of children.
  • We Can Rule Together: The whole plot of Episode 2 is Andross maneuvering James into a situation where he can ask James to help him in his plans.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Was once coworkers with James and worked with him on the warp-gate project that killed Vixy.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: If Andross is to be believed, then a big part of the reason why he becomes Venomian premier and later attempts to conquer Lylat is to prepare it for the invasion of an even greater threat, implied to be the Aparoids.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: When Andross is originally dropped on Venom, he has white sclera, but by the time of Episode 2 proper they've become yellow, showing he's become a ruthless leader. Gets upgraded even further still to Red Eyes, Take Warning by the present day in Episode 1.

    Captain Shears
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/29_shears.png
"So they're already leaving, then. That's alright. I have another card in play."

Voiced by: Joshua Tomar

From Farewell, Beloved Falco. A Cornerian officer secretly working for Venom, who's trying to get information on the Arwing.

  • Armor-Piercing Response: Shears gives one of these when Sonny asks if they're getting paid for the job they did, a job they screwed up. Shears hangs up when Sonny doesn't find an answer.
Sonny: Hey, so, uh, are we still getting paid?
    Shears: For what, exactly?
  • Bad Boss: Hires Sonny and Sagan, but treats them rudely and later refuses to pay them. Justified, though, because Sonny and Sagan failed to do what he hired them for.
  • The Bogan: Shears has an Australian accent, treats his henchmen poorly, and is secretly a traitor to Corneria.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When Sonny asks him if he and Sagan are still getting paid after James foiled their mission, Shears matter-of-factly asks what he should pay them for, then hangs up after Sonny has no comeback.
  • Right Hand Versus Left Hand: He calls Eckblade to catch James on Venom for info on the Arwing, but this inadvertently crashes into Andross' own scheme involving using Pigma to lure James into a trap.
  • The Quisling: He's a Cornerian officer but secretly works for Andross, the ruler of Venom.

Sonny Van Der Kut and Sagan Hachok
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/23_sonny_and_sagan.png
Pictured: Sagan (Left), Sonny (Right)

Voiced by: Vinny (Sonny), Chris Niosi (Sagan)

A pair of thugs, consisting of a bandicoot and a hedgehog, hired by Captain Shears to do a bit of corporate espionage.

  • Brains and Brawn: Neither one is a genius, but Sonny tends to take the lead, does most of the talking, and seems savvier. Sagan is mostly just a thug, and his main contribution is hitting Beltino on the head.
  • Bumbling Henchmen Duo: In comparison to the dead-serious Andross and his various agents, Sonny and Sagan are complete jokes and provide much of the episode's comic relief.
  • Butt-Monkey: Sagan is the more pathetic of the two, and gets hit on the forehead both by James' slingshot and Sonny's cigarette.
  • Copycat Mockery: Both of them do this: Sagan imitates Beltino while interrogating him, and Sonny does the same to Sagan later when he asks if Shear's going to pay them.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: They're clear caricatures of Crash Bandicoot and Sonic the Hedgehog, while their first names are puns of their respective companies' names. Instead of being the genuinely heroic figures like their original counterparts, they're a pair of crooks hired by a mole for some corporate espionage.
  • Dirty Coward: Sonny complains to Shears that there wasn't supposed to be any security at Space Dynamics, meaning he and Sagan only took the job because they thought they'd be able to gang up on a lone scientist. As soon as a real fight arrives, they give up.
  • Enhanced Interrogation Techniques: To make sure Beltino cooperates, they capture ROB 64 beforehand and use him as a hostage.
  • Evil Laugh: They often laugh in a sinister fashion while interrogating Bel.
  • Fat and Skinny: Sagan is the fat, Sonny is the skinny.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: With Sagan writhing on the ground uselessly next to him and outnumbered 2-to-1, Sonny decides he's outmatched and gives up on stealing information about the Arwing.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: With the right ammo and enough force, a slingshot can be dangerous... but Sagan's reaction to getting hit in the forehead by a marble is clearly meant to be funny and show how much of a wimp he is.
  • Shout-Out: Adding to Corrupted Character Copy above, the scene where they interrogate Beltino and ROB 64 is a homage to a promotional video produced by Nintendo Power where two thugs wearing Sega and Sony shirts ransom people for information on Star Fox 64.
  • Sinister Switchblade: Sonny pulls one on Beltino Toad when James and Peppy show up, but ends up putting it away.
  • Smug Smiler: Sonny grins a lot in episode 2 when taunting.
  • Species Surname: Their last names are puns. Reading them out loud is the only hint you're getting.
  • Stupid Crooks: Sonny and Sagan are pretty small time for a spy thriller of the setting and their inexperience shows. First, they stole a kid's scooter as a mode of transport, which isn't exactly the best getaway vehicle, then to secure the exit they put a big rock to leave the door wide open, so everyone coming in knows something fishy is happening, and when James and Peppy get the drop on them, Sonny just calls it quits since he has no idea how to handle the hostage situation and Sagan writhing on the ground is distracting him.
  • Tap on the Head: Sagan dishes out one of these to Beltino Toad.

    Cason Rhys
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20_rhys.png
"We are forever grateful, sir."
Voiced by: Sonny Hijena

Andross' right-hand man. A hyena.

  • The Big Guy: Is Andross' main muscle, serving as his bodyguard and enforcer. In particular, he is the one who captures James. Concept art lists him as over seven feet tall, making him by far the largest character in the series.
  • Glowing Mechanical Eyes: In his case, when Pigma beckons James to follow him into the darkened train car, only Rhys' cybernetic eyes aren't obscured by the darkness as he waits to ambush James.
  • Happily Married: Implied. Andross says there is a Mrs. Rhys, and by the sound of it, she quite enjoys the car Andross got for her and her husband.
  • Husky Russkie: Rhys has a Russian-like speech pattern and is strong enough to manhandle James.
  • Neck Lift: Not technically a neck lift, but the effect is the same: Rhys grabs James by his prosthetic hand and easily lifts him off the ground.
  • No-Sell: James karate chops him on the clavicle to try and break out of his grip. Rhys is just annoyed by it.
  • Slasher Smile: In concept art Rhys sports a terrifying toothy grin, though in the series itself he mostly keeps a straight face.
  • Stealthy Colossus: Despite his size, he manages to hide in a train car and completely catch James by surprise.
  • Stout Strength: Rhys has a noticeable gut, but is incredibly strong.

    Clem Eckblade and His Partner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eckblade_and_his_partner.png
Pictured: Eckblade (Left), Eckblade's Partner (Right)

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford (Eckblade)

A pair of lemurs that work for Captain Shears as VIA agents.

  • Boom, Headshot!: They both get shot in the head by Pigma.
  • Buffy Speak: Eckblade was presumably told by Shears that James shot Sagan with a marble, but doesn't quite know how or doesn't want to ask a Cornerian captain if they have a slingshot, leading him to awkwardly ask James to put his "improvised shooting instrument" on the table.
  • By-the-Book Cop: Eckblade calls James by rank and gives him ample warnings to cooperate, not even bringing a firearm as it would be excessive force. It contrasts with Andross having Pigma kill the official Venomian agents, kidnap James and then clean up the details as nothing happened to show that Venom under Andross is much more ruthless and insidious.
  • The Dividual: Eckblade and his unnamed partner are never seen apart and look almost exactly the same, other than his partner dressing a bit more messily.
  • Last-Name Basis: The only time his first name is mentioned is on Shears' computer screen when Shears goes for his backup plan.
  • No Name Given: Eckblade's partner is not given a name.
  • Tactful Translation: Eckblade attempts to translate the signs his partner made but James cuts him short saying he knows what his partner said. For reference, his partner signed: "This is why I warned you to bring your gun today."
  • The Voiceless: Eckblade's unnamed partner never speaks and communicates in sign language. It's implied he may be deaf, seeing as he doesn't react like Eckblade and James do at the sound of Pigma opening the door into the train car, and only turns when Eckblade falls from getting shot.
  • We Have Reserves: Gets killed by Pigma to help lure James into a trap.
  • The Worf Effect: He doesn't directly fight Pigma, but Pigma killing him and his partner so quickly establishes Pigma is a dangerous and competent opponent.

    Customs Agents Riendo and Kajeckis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/30_riendo_and_kajeckis_8.png
Pictured: Kajeckis (Left), Riendo (Right)

Voiced by: Jonathan Jones (Riendo), Jason McMullen (Kajeckis)

John H. Riendo (a hyena) and Jason B. Kajeckis (a bearded lizard) work on the same shift at the Venomian customs checkpoint.

  • Blatant Lies: Kajeckis poorly denies that he gives Riendo grief at work because he misuses his mom's flower pot as an ashtray.
  • Meaningful Name: Riendo's surname means "laughing" in Spanish.
    • His first name (visible on his nametag) is John, nearly the same as his voice actor.
  • Properly Paranoid: Riendo is right to hold onto James' marbles as he possibly can shoot someone with them as a projectile.
  • Suppressed Rage: Riendo is obviously trying very hard to stay calm and professional when a citizen (politely) asks him mid-argument with Kajeckis if they can get the line moving.
Riendo: Sir, please—stay in line! We'll be right with you; we appreciate your patience!

In-universe fictional characters

    The Germ-o-Phobe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/germ_guy.png
"I can't believe I lost to this scum!"

Voiced by: Jeremy Elbertson

A monkey in a commercial for a cleaning product.

  • Mythology Gag: The Parody Commercial he's in is a setup for the line "I can't believe I lost to this scum!" shouted by the Meteo Crusher pilot upon defeat in Star Fox 64. In this context, it's used for him losing to literal soap scum because he didn't use the right cleaning product.
  • Tuckerization: He's unnamed, but the credits dub him "Germ-o-Phobe", for the bottle of cleaning solution he uses. When said quickly, "Germ-o" is pronounced identically to Jerma.

    Soap Scum Monster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/germ_monster.png
"You didn't use Nova Bomb!"

Voiced by: Matthew Gafford

A mass of sentient bathroom gunk on the ceiling.

  • Expy: His voice and facial appearance are clearly inspired by Krang.
  • Muck Monster: It's a sentient monster made from shower scum.
