openStory-breaker power trope? Anime
I know we have Story-Breaker Power trope for when a character is over-powerful and could end the story in a matter of seconds (such as Alien X from WesternAnimation.Ben 10) but is there a story-maker power from a character's powers - a character is powerful, but that causes the story to happen rather than ends it?
openOnly Guy Allowed at an All-Girl Institution, Etc. Anime
A guy (always the protagonist) is given special permission to live at an otherwise all-female school, dorm, boardinghouse, or military academy. Do we have this one?
My first thought was The One Guy, but the last sentence specifically states that it doesn't apply if the male is the protagonist.
openMisguided Not-Quite Villain, Anime
I need help with an example for the Shimoneta page, concerning Anna's character.
She's an antagonist, but only in the sense that she and her parents oppose SOX, who Anna believes to be the "bad guys". Except Anna isn't evil, she's been indoctrinated by her parents to believe that anything lewd is evil and that whatever the Public Morals Committee does is just (according to the law).
Further complicating things is the fact that SOX are really Anna's best friends in disguise, except Anna doesn't know that. So she gets along with them while they're at school, but she sees them as a threat to everything her parents stand for when they're disguised as SOX.
So I'm not sure which trope applies to her. I wouldn't consider her a Punch-Clock Villain because she honestly believes she and her parents are the good ones, because it's what they've taught her (plus, Anna's crazy). I don't think she quite counts as a well-intentioned extremist, or an Ignorant Minion either, because the law is actually on her side.
How would you categorize her?

I originally posted this in Ask The Tropers, but now uploading to Trope Finder as well on advice of mod Willbyr (thanks!) to see if there are any related tropes that might already cover the concept. Please feel free to weigh in!
Hey all,
I was wondering if there's a trope page for that moment in anime (and other Japanese animation) when characters do a full-body shiver where even their hair stands on end. The most notable examples I can think of are from Studio Ghibli animation, e.a. in Spirited away when Chihiro is dealing the the super gross river god in Yubaba's bath house, and when Jiji the cat from Kiki's Delivery Service first locks eyes with the white cat Lily.
I was in fact so sure that this was an actual trope that I confidently googled studio ghibli shiver tv tropes and was astounded when there wasn't already a trope page for this. I would love to see a page collecting shiver moments like this, they always makes me laugh and I think it's interesting that this shiver - at least as far as I can tell - is used to convey different kinds of emotions.
I feel sure that I have seen this full body shiver in other Japanese animation too, but the Studio Ghibli examples have stuck in my mind the most.
What do you all think about starting a Studio Ghibli Shiver trope page? Do you have any examples from Japanese animation (or other animation, for that matter) of characters doing a full-body shiver?
Edited by m4y_zaeopenThrowing at the enemy to distract from your escape Anime
In To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts, the hero throws an explosive at an enemy, and while it explodes he gets away. In Dr Stone, Haiju throws a large rock to cause sparks to ignite a large pile of gun powder, and while it is burning he gets away. What do you call it when you distract a villain by something that blocks his view, so that when he can see again you are gone?
And note: When the explosion or whatever is over, the distracter is gone without a trace.
openPower Copying (sort of) Anime
I need help with a character example for Uchi no Musume ni Te o Dasu na!.
During the epilogue chapters, Clara comes in contact with a phallic shaped alien parasite that briefly possesses her. She seemingly returns to normal after the parasite is killed, except a later chapter reveals that she's unknowingly retained a portion of the parasite's power which allows her to summon and control soul latext, just like her girlfriend Mei.
I wouldn't consider it Power Copying, since Clara's ability isn't quite the same as Mei's, or the parasite's. Clara can only turn her cape into latex and reshape it into a single object, whereas Mei can summon soul latex out of thin air and reshape it into anything she chooses.
Also, Clara didn't copy the parasite, since she lost all conscious memory of the time she was possessed by it. All she remembers is that she killed it. Or so she thought.
Is there a trope for residually retaining (a portion of) someone else's ability?
Edited by MiinUopenShort pigtails with otherwise long hair - whatchamacallit? Anime
In anime, animesque shows etc., I see sometimes characters having a bit weird hairstyle: otherwise long hair, but then there are shorter pigtails (or sometimes a ponytail). Sometimes it manifests as four pigtails, two long and two short. Examples include:
- Cure Twinkle (Go! Princess Pretty Cure)
- Cure Magical (Maho Girls Pretty Cure!, ponytail(?) variant)
- Jinx's Star Guardian skin (League of Legends)
- As a border-line case, Misa Amane (Death Note), depending on how art is going at the moment. Though usually she pulls a realistic version of this type of hair, having part of her long hair gathered into pigtails.
(I have seen more but I can't immediately recall them.)
That kind of hair makes me curious, as pulling that kind of hair sounds a bit hard; how can you find all the short hair in all that long hair every morning? No wonder I have seen this hairstyle more in the magical girl genre.
I know there are Anime Hair and Improbable Hairstyle, but anything more specific?

openIs there a trope for Truck-kun Anime
I have been reading a lot of reincarnation fics lately and many of them have vehiculare death as the main culprite (one was pushed but still). Is there a name for this trope?
openCompetition for a Wish Anime
Maybe this one is too broad, but some sort of (generally battle royale-ish) competition where the prize is a wish? Mostly thinking of anime / Japanese works like Fate, but I'm pretty sure there's others.
openCan I make a page for Pokemon Chronicles? Anime
It was a spinoff of the Pokemon anime that focused on characters other than Ash, and has some new characters like Georgio that have many traits of their own.
openForgotten Insobriety-Based OCC Anime
Is there a trope for when a character is either sick (e.g. a high fever) or not sober and they act out and typically have some plot-related progress only to forget it once they recover?
openAfter-images as body doubles Anime
There's this Pokémon move where the Pokémon moves so quickly back and forth between two spots that it leaves after-images that appear to be body doubles. And a guy in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders does the same with his Stand. The purpose is to make you hit the after image instead of the real deal. (Obviously, this wouldn't work for real, since you could just reach out your fist between the images and the fighter would run into it.)
Is this a trope?
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenTough one... Anime
I don't remember much at all but there was a woman suffering or dead in an old barn type of building. A demon is lurking in the barn and i supposedly the one who killed her. Later on in the same episode, either four or seven heroes show up and all you can see is their silhouettes. One of the heroes is a big dude and another is a small girl. That is all I remember.
openSakura Wars The Movie example Anime
Hello. I would like to discuss an example regarding Sakura Wars: The Movie:
- To keep in line with Hiroi's request to cast actors/actresses with experience in voice-over, singing and stage work, Shintarō Sonooka (Kōsuke Dan in the musicals and second OVA) personally suggested Akiko Kuno, who worked with Sonooka in the past, to voice Ratchet.
Which trope best fits this description?
Edited by gjjonesopenWhat kind of denial is this? Anime
The sole teacher in the Schoolgirl Series Wasteful Days of High School Girls once stated in front of his high-school students that he's into college girls. But as he rambles on, it's obvious to the girls that he is actually into Joshikousei, but is forced into a closet due to the possibility of a Reality Ensues fallout. The entire class is suitably Blue with Shock for that.
- Just from the description above, his speech should count as False Reassurance, or some other kind of denial?
- Also, as sexuality is concerned, if he treats college girls as a "more legal substitute" for high school girls, what trope is it?
When a seemingly important item, monster, place etc. only shows up in intros or outros, but never in any of the episodes. Sometimes they make a one-time appearance on a different format such as an manga or a video game, but I guess that's an aversion?
One example: The rock mimics that are as seen in both intros of Kono Suba. They're never present in the show itself, but I think they made an appearance in the manga. Also, that giant turtle thing.
