Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- • Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- • Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.

openQuestion about text from an example from one film concerning text from later ones
The following example from Film.Childs Play 1988 had its indentation fixed by me—I think (with the bolded part being its own sub-bullet before):
- Bittersweet Ending: At the end Chucky is dead and Andy is saved, but nobody besides Mike, Jack, and the Barclays are going to believe a doll committed the murders, and it's implied that Andy will never be the same. The sequels make this a straight up Downer Ending; neither of the cops choose to tell the truth about what happened, Karen's insistence that it was the doll gets her committed, and Andy is put into foster care. And to top it all off, Chucky was resurrected several more times and eventually gained a new human body anyways.
However, this leaves me with the question—is the bolded part acceptable to list on the page for the first film, since it is concerns material from later films? Or should I delete it for that reason?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenWrong namespace?
FanficRecs.Author Vocabulary Calendar was created in January, but it's not only misusing the namespace (Fanfic Recs is for works, whereas Author Vocabulary Calendar is a trope), but I don't think this really needs its own page? Plus it's only a sentence long, so it's also lacking in context.
Janicella, the user in question, only made three edits, all of which are misusing namespaces. They also made a now-cut Synopsis page—a namespace that was deprecated years ago—and FanWorks.Fleishman Is In Trouble which only lists an incorrectly formatted trope, then disappeared. I sent a notifier nonetheless.
Not much else to say; these are clear cuts but I felt they were worth reporting.
Edited by FernandoLemonopenThomas F Wilson page
I found some guy called Darius Milo Riggs made the following edit as shown in the link here. Basically, he put in Mean Character, Nice Actor in place of Nice Guy as shown.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Creator.ThomasFWilson#36143419
So far, I have messaged him to tell him that Mean Character, Nice Actor is in-universe examples only, but I have no response so far. I think we shall have to revert it back to what it was before, but I don't dare to do it for fear of edit warring.

Edited by OrrorSANESSopen "Sweet release" vs "sweet relief" in "Super Mario Bros. Movie" Film
In the Final Trailer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it was thought that the Lumalee says "sweet release of death," but when you turn on the closed captions of the Final Trailer at Illumination's official YouTube, the line says "sweet relief," which I had changed with citation at Funny. However, ivantmyburd changed it back to "sweet release," and I'd be edit warring if I changed it back to my edit of "sweet relief." Suggestions?
EDIT: Sent them a PM.
Edited by eagle108openOddity on the Super Mario Bros Character Page (possible edit-war?) Film
There's something weird going on over on the character page for the Super Mario Bros film.
Does every example really need to have it known that it was seen in the trailers? The troper Silverblade 2 seems to be convinced that everything needs some sort of citation as to where a trope example was seen at, which seems really overly strict.
EDIT: I wrote this not knowing that there's rules for Upcoming Works. I still think Silverblade 2 went about this all weird, but I get it.

openMy Entry Was Contested Film
On the YMMV for Scream VI, ~impracticaltroper deleted my They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character entry:
- While it didn't end up being surprising that Laura Crane (Samara Weaving) would be axed off almost immediately—to the point of indeed being the first victim as that implication would've come because of the minimal use of her in the trailer, the setup of her being a professor having studied Horror films and teaching the different things they've done over the years could've been a highly valuable asset to the group throughout the movie. Instead, her being tricked into the secluded, dark alley to be killed by a total Ghostface amateur indicates that she's not only not as clever as she seemed to be, but only ultimately just there as a glorified cameo due to both the particular actress and her previous film with the directors as well—same for Henry Czerny above.
The reasons they gave was that her being intended as the first victim trumps this and Mindy and Kirby already fill the role she could've played. I disagree because aside from perception that she could've been bigger in the story being reasonable, the intention with the writing is irrelevant when it comes to what the audience perceives. Rather than add it again, I wanted to bring it here to get the proper discussion to determine whether or not it goes back up—which is reasonable because it's based on opinion.
Moving for it to go back up. What say everyone?
Edited by futuremoviewriteropen Worth creating a page for the Redwall animated series? Western Animation
Currently, the WesternAnimation/Redwall link is a redirect to the book series. Would it be possible to revise the redirect and create a page for the animated series?
open Large Ham and Milikng the Giant Cow
Is Milking the Giant Cow a necessary part of Large Ham trope? Page itself says that, for example, shouting at the top of the lungs isn't, and any ' 'boisterous' ' expression of character's emotion including intense gesticulation by this logic would be too. Cold Ham trope and some examples imply that too. But Large Ham trope page in the part where it is discussed says something like "and Milking the Giant Cow to no small degree"... So i'm confused. What's the actual truth?
Note:I've already made this question and nobode replied.
openIs it possible to create a series on TV Tropes?
I was wondering if someone can make a series on TV Tropes itself. What I mean is: not a work page about a pre-created series, but an actual series created on TV Tropes. I saw in the How to Create a Work Page... page that tropers can trope even things that don't exist (yet) in a Just for Fun page, like the TV Tropes: The Webcomic page. So how about creating an actual series using TV Tropes as a medium?

Edited by KarxridaopenCharacter Perception Evolution questions?
Questions about these from Character Perception Evolution:
- Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy's take on Anakin Skywalker was widely derided along with the prequels themselves on release for being a whiny, selfish brat whose turn to evil failed to be sympathetic and who ruined the image of Darth Vader. With time the detractors softened, claiming that Anakin's actor Hayden Christensen, for whatever faults may have lied in his acting direction, still gave a phenomenal performance and created a modern Tragic Hero. The more favorable opinion strengthened with the release of the Sequel Trilogy, where Anakin's grandson Kylo Ren attempted to fix something that wasn't broken and came out a confusing mess thanks to the constant script changes caused by the Sequel Trilogy's Troubled Production, basically receiving all the criticisms that were once leveled at Anakin save for the acting one. His portrayal in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was seen to mesh better with the heroic image Obi-Wan had of him in the Original Trilogy, also helped in endearing him to a newer audience. When Hayden returned to the role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, his performance was widely praised.
The bolded part was removed citing "The point about his portrayal in the animated series is closer to Rescued from the Scrappy Heap." But prior ATT agreed with me that Rescued can still count it it caused their pre-recused material to retroactively be judged more favorably. So permission to add it back modifying to fit this?
- My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Princess Luna only briefly appeared in the Season 1 premiere after being de-corrupted from her stint as Nightmare Moon. She was popular with the fans despite her limited personality and dialogue, and Fanon portraying her as The Woobie and a Shrinking Violet quickly caught on as the accepted interpretation. Then the Season 2 episode "Luna Eclipsed" gave Luna her first major role... and revealed she was a Large Ham. Fans vastly preferred this canon personality and the "Woona" fanon was quickly abandoned.
This seems misuse as every other CPE example is not about their fanon, but their popularity (be it love, hate, Love to Hate, vilify, or whitewash). And later martial may have changed how Luna is seen in fanon/overall but I don't believe it changed how she's seen in her Season 1 portrayal itself (less than a minute of screentime, just two lines, extreme Early Installment Character-Design Difference) Is evolving fanon separate enough to warrant cutting this a it's not her popularity that changed?

openTextplosion - full description rewrite
Troper ~Asterlix has just completely rewritten the description for Textplosion - some of the changes look positive, but this wasn't covered on the discussion page and doesn’t seem to have been agreed on ATT or Trope Description Improvement Drive.

Can we get a mod revert before other changes are made to the page? We can then follow up on the usual thread and get consensus on this before reapplying some or all of the changes.
Thanks!

openPage with no examples
Gio Gios Bizarre Adventure Hope Is Unbreakable exists but it only has one short description with no tropes? Anyone have any tropes for it before I send it to the Cut List?
It seems from the list of notifiers that we don't have one for serial tweaking specifically, so would one just make up a serial tweaking notifier of their own? Or is serial tweaking even something to notify a Troper of? I feel like I've asked this here before, but I'm not finding it in my Queries.
