openFrom a film festival to theathers Film
If a movie first showed in a film festival, do we do tropes on that movie? Or do we wait until they come to big screen (cinemas) to start making a trope page?
openCaptain Marvel on Name's the Same
The entry needs editing, but I am not sure of the trope. Does it include same names or similar names? Even then, a lot of entries I feel could use some removing.
openGreg Giraldo
I noticed that his page has been deleted and that I may have been the one that had a hand in its deletion: I was not trying to insult/cause an edit war or whatever on the page. I also did not realize that even giving complimentary tropes was against the rules of troping a real person. Is it possible for the page to return without anything personal added and instead of tropes about his work/comedy (which already had a few tropes on the page)?
Edited by Erin582open No Title
Is there a trope for the following situation? The main character asks an anti-social and moody person to hang out but they say no. It's supposed to underline how antisocial and even rude the other character is just because they don't want to hang and the main character is really mad about it and the reader is supposed to agree although, not wanting to hang out with someone is not exactly a crime. Does this count as Protagonist Centered Morality ? Like: Oh, they don't want to hang with the one and only main character, they have to be an antisocial misfit! Sorry for the awkward description.
Edited by LeiaOopenPersonal bias; deleting valid information
thatother1dude deleted massive amounts of valid and verifiable information from Creator's Pest — and by valid and verifiable, I mean that there were plenty of official Word of God sources to back up that information. And Administrivia. How To Write An Example clearly states that official sources, especially Word of God sources, are preferred to validate and verify information. Their edit reasons also belied that they're biased towards Sakura and, to an extent, Sasuke. Their edit reasons were not neutral whatsoever. So I'm calling them out due to 1) deleting massive amounts of valid and verifiable information that had official Word of God sources to back up said information, 2) personal character bias, and 3) lack of neutral wording.

open Are war brides really Mail Order Brides?
The other day I deleted a war bride example from the page on the grounds that war brides are not mail order brides. Today I discovered that the description mentions them as being included. Is this really appropriate? A mail order bride scenario involves a "courtship" where only written communication and perhaps a few photographs are exchanged before engagement. War brides are simply "courtship is between a member of the military and the resident of a foreign (to the member of the military) country, usually under wartime conditions". All the two scenarios have in common are "marriage after an abridged courtship." Shouldn't these be sister tropes?
openGay Panic
How is Gay Panic different from Hide Your Lesbians and Get Back in the Closet? It doesn't seem to get much use compared to the other two and has a significantly smaller page.
Edited by rjd1922resolved Page in wrong namespace
I noticed a page in the wrong namespace (VideoGames instead of VideoGame). I have already moved the whole content of the page to the correct namespace; is the page ready to be cut now?
openNew troper here, asking how to incorporate things from an AMA on a page Western Animation
Greeting to all of you, I am a recent signed up troper after putting it off for so long. Recently, Jeff Gomez, the CEO of Starlight Runner Enteirtainment and creator of the Hotwheels Highway 35 universe did an AMA on the acceleracers reddit and revealed so new details about the project and show.
Here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Acceleracers/comments/8ybyoh/jeff_gomez_creator_of_hot_wheels_highway_35/?st=jjk9quj2&sh=c6c225fd
With this new information, me and another friend who are both tropers and subscribers to that subreddit are going to maybe update the TV tropes page and even fill in some of the folders for the teams and characters.
My question to all of you is this: would most of the answers he provided fall under “trivia”? A lot of the responses were about things that didn’t make it into the final project and some explanations that fans of the series had questions about. So would this be under the “what could’ve been” trope?
Thank you for your time
open Usage of Bizarre Alien Biology
I’m personally wondering how the Bizarre Alien Biology trope should be used. The character I had this trope in mind for is not a human, but they’re not an alien either. They’re basically a Fish Person that has an somewhat human anatomy but with octopus organs on the inside. Would the Alien Biology trope be appropriate here, or is there anything else you’d reccommend?
open Yet another locked page
The YMMV page of Let There Be Light has been locked. There has not been any recent activity on it to warrant a lock on it, so I guess it must be another bug.
openDo TV movies go on the Film index? Film
I added Magical Mystery Tour to the Television Movie Index as it ran on the BBC. Noticed that it's listed on the Film index as well. Thoughts? Don't really have an opinion myself.
Edited by jamespolkopen Differentiating two close tropes
I'm having a little trouble with Character Focus and A Day in the Limelight.
What's exactly the difference between these tropes, and in what circumstances do either apply?
openBendis' Superman era Print Comic
I've just created a new article for the new Superman era under Brian Michael Bendis to categorize tropes that will be featured in both the relaunched Superman and Action Comics, much like the Dan Slott and Nick Spencer eras for Spider-Man, while Comic Lover 1995 created an article for the new Superman book, also written by Bendis. Since both articles are likely to feature the same tropes, what should we do?
Edited by MasterHeroopenWhen can I add my work? Literature
Hello fellow Tropers!
So I have a novel due for publication on 9/4/2018 through a small press and wanted to make a page for it. I've been staying away from any YMMV tropes because it felt a bit narcissistic to try and point out a "Crowning moment of Awesome" or "Tear Jerker" lol. I wondered about two things
1. Is there a way of creating a draft of a page? I wanted to work on it on my downtime but would prefer to not make it visible until the publication date.
2. I mentioned the YMMV tropes being avoided earlier, are there more types of tropes you would recommend I don't add myself as the writer of the book?
Thank you!
openROCEJ?
From YMMV.The Legend Of Korra Turf Wars
- Misaimed Fandom: Many fans felt that adding anti-homosexual bigotry to Lord Sozin (and the Fire Nation generally) to make him even more of a Politically Incorrect Villain was gratuitous, given his previously established villainy. Sadly, however, there were also those who celebrated this — Namely, certain right-wing extremists in the fandom who have always been cheerleading for the Fire Nation, never saw any problem with their expansionism in the first place (since they were only bringing progress, technology and efficient government to backward peoples, after all), and lionized Sozin in particular. Now they think this makes him even more of a hero for standing up to political correctness.
I removed the "right-wing" part since naming names like this only serves to invite conflict nor is it necessary for this trope. The person who added it PM'd me thinking it should be added back. Thoughts?
openAnd There Was Much Rejoicing misuse?
I assume And There Was Much Rejoicing only applies to celebrated deaths, just celebration is misuse right?
I've seen enough example of this that I would appreciate clarity on this.
So, there's this Korean webtoon, owes a lot to Dragonball about a wild-child idiot shonen protag who enters a martial arts tournament to find the strongest highschooler, secretly a conspiracy to find people empowered with the mystic keys that might let humanity bypass the Taboo that gives the Gods massive damage reduction.
Had a page here, for a bit, was taken down apparently for being a blank, but just the surviving supplementary pages have more than enough material to justify it's existence. Is there any issue with restarting the page?
