Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.

openTwo Pages With The Same Name
Hermaphrodite redirects to Intersex but I want to launch a trope called Intersex. What to do?
openProper capitalisation of SureAI
I created today a creator page for SureAI. Now the correct writing would be SureAI, all one word, but it's displayed instead separated. Is there a way to correct the title, so that when I write "Creator/SureAI", it's displayed as SureAI?
Edited by gc10openTitle of a U.S political drama series Live Action TV
Very recent about a dysfunctional family with a wayward daughter, the patriarch is either a governor or presidential candidate up for election and surrounded by spin doctors who has skeletons in his closet related to a historical sex scandal. I think in the opening episode a body or artefact is uncovered linked to the historical scandal which places everything in jeopardy. The patriarch denies any wrong doing but there is more to him than meets the eye.
openNeed Clarification
I have two questions about the Friendly Rivalry page:
The first one's about the page image which, frankly, does not illustrate the trope because the narration clearly says the characters shown don't like each other.
Second: part of the description says there may be UST involved in the rivalry, but every rivalry I've seen has always been strictly platonic. Can anyone think of a rivalry where there's any sort of romantic tension? 'cuz, if not, that part is misleading and needs to go.
openRevert request for ZCE's and spoiler markup
As part of the Roleplay Cleanup Thread, I cleaned up multiple pages from the Trustfell roleplay, commenting out zero-context examples and making the pages spoiler free due to the murder-mystery nature of the RP making the pages inherently difficult to read with spoilers on. Today, Jisu reverted these changes for the following pages:
- Roleplay.Trustfell 3 Trust Fall With A Vengeance
- Characters.Trustfell 3 Trust Fall With A Vengeance
- Characters.Trustfell 4 Trust Fall Or Die Hard
- Roleplay.Trustfell 4 Trust Fall Or Die Hard
- Roleplay.Trustfell 5 A Good Day To Trust Fall
- Characters.Trustfell 5 A Good Day To Trust Fall
I have sent Jisu a PM linking to our ZCE and spoiler policies, and also to this ATT, but could I request a revert for the pages to before Jisu's latest edit? As you can see, there's multiple pages that have been edited, and that it's all spoiler and ZCE markup would make it tedious to go through by hand and add them all again.
openDoes "No Straight Examples" apply to work pages?
If a trope's description says No Straight Examples, Please!, does that mean straight examples are banned from the trope's page, or straight examples are banned from both the trope's page and from any work pages?
Edited by BunnieopenThe Law of Fan Jackassery?
While editing YMMV.Arrowverse, i found The Lawof Fan Jackassery. Is this supposed to have example? The actual page doesn't and this look like it could be flamebait
Edited by WhirlRXopenGuidlines to adding video example
So, in simple terms, what are the guidlines for adding a video example? Are there any specific channels I need to go through before adding one, or can I simply add it to the page?
Are GI Fs acceptable video examples, or do they need to be longer?
And if I wanted a specific You Tube video used as a video example, but I am unable to download it and add it myself, is there a way to get it added still?
openAdding videos to rude articles?
There's a song that would be an example of Country Matters, but obviously has the C-word in it. Is it allowed?
openProblem edit
This was added recently to FanFic.The Call At Night to expand a ZCE:
"He kidnaps and tortures Isabella with no remorse whatsoever and would have been perfectly fine with killing her, Phineas and everyone else they recruit in the rescue mission, even the oldest of whom (Candace and Candace-2) are minors."
Is this grammatically incorrect in any shape or form?
Me and the troper are currently discussing it right now, and I have sent them a link to this query.
openNGO title
Shouldn't N.G.O. redirect to Non-Governmental Organization instead of the other way around? I thought we didn't like initialism-only titles (like how UST redirects to Unresolved Sexual Tension).
openIs there a good way to do numbered sub-headings split over multiple sections?
Is there a good way to do numbered sub-headings split over multiple sections?
I'm collecting Princesses of the Pizza Parlor under folders or first-level bullets for each collection, because with 9 volumes out, and more information I want to add, the description seems like it's getting too long.
But I don't see a way to do it like this, but bullets are replaced with numbers?
And I want to stick Extra volumes in-between...
- Collection 1:
- Book 1
- Book 2
- Book 3
- Collection 2:
- Book 4
- Book 5
- Book 6
- Extra 1
I know that "Double #" is Second-level numbered, from looking at The Dresden Files, but it resets the number between sections.
And speaking of Dresden Files that description seems long too.
openSpeculative edit on Characters/Amphibia Other
Yesterday, spydre added this example to Characters.Amphibia Other:
- Took a Level in Badass: If this teaser image◊ is anything to go by.
I removed it because A. Weblinks Are Not Examples, and B) it's based entirely on a teaser image, hence it should count as Speculative Troping.
Today, they re-added the trope with expanded context:
- Took a Level in Badass: If this teaser image◊ is anything to go by, her time in the wilderness has had a similar effect on her as it had on Green Arrow.
Although it's marginally better, I feel like it's insufficient in explaining the trope (especially to readers who aren't familiar with Green Arrow), and still relies too much on a link to promotional artwork, but I'd rather get a second opinion before deleting something twice in a row so it doesn't turn into an Edit War.
Edited by ZuxtronopenBreaking It/Fixing It
I've been wondering, could Nice Job Breaking It, Hero be considered a Nightmare Fuel or Tear Jerker trope? Since when the hero messes up, it is usually either scary or sad. The same could apply to Nice Job Fixing It, Villain possibly being considered a Heartwarming or even Funny moment trope, since the villain unintentionally fixing a problem could be a heartwarming or amusing moment.

All Lower Case Letters being in all lowercases is an eyesore. Why is it so?
openHow to redirect?
Hello, I want to know how I can edit an article so it redirects to another page. How do I do it?
openEdit War discussion definition
I know that add > delete > add without discussion is classed as an edit war but if the second addition reworded the entry somewhat to cover some, but not all of, the issues with the deletion mentioned in the deletion's edit reasons, does that count as enough discussion even if the re-adding troper still didn't discuss things via PM/Forum/ATT/Discussion page, especially if the re-added addition didn't have its own edit reason?
Edited by SebastianGray
Title, there's a note at the top of the page saying that, per policy, it's Spoilers Off. I assume this is there from when the page was troping an unreleased film. Since it's come out, would it be okay to remove the note or am I missing something about the spoiler policy or something particular to how we're handling this page?
