Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Video Source has basic guidelines.
GIFs are not forbidden as far as I know but personally I don't think they would be very illustrative.
Also, I don't think a full copy of any youtube video should be added as a video example because that doesn't fall under fair use. However reasonably long cuts or part of the video should be okay.
Edited by XFlloIf the entire video owned by someone else is 9 seconds long, it's probably not kosher to add it.
There was a purge of Pro ZD's videos a while ago because people were uploading the entire (sub-minute) video. See this ATT thread
.

So, in simple terms, what are the guidlines for adding a video example? Are there any specific channels I need to go through before adding one, or can I simply add it to the page?
Are GI Fs acceptable video examples, or do they need to be longer?
And if I wanted a specific You Tube video used as a video example, but I am unable to download it and add it myself, is there a way to get it added still?
