Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

Ask the Tropers:
openWoobie
Do Woobie tropes (The Woobie, Jerkass Woobie, Iron Woobie, etc.) need prior thread approval? I heard that they did, but then I also saw posts that said they didn't, and that left me confused. If they do need prior approval, where do I go to get the approval for it?
openFanfic or canon names
I have a question regarding troping Fanfic pages: if a character in a fic uses a different name from their canon counterpart, would it be better to use their Canon name or the name they used in the fanfic when describing the page?
openSponsor keeps rogue-discarding
Jaycie89 keeps rogue-discarding their draft Social Mobility Scorn, which for those that don't know is a bad thing to do regardless of if you're a sponsor or not. Not only is there zero consensus or reason to discard it but they're edit warring with me over it now, having discarded a second time after I restored it. They could've explained themselves but nope.
openSequelitis?
So I'm working mostly-alone on Sequelitis. A fellow editor not only feels that the trope is in existential danger, but that my writing style is radioactive. (True.)
I am more laid-back. I pointed out there are a parade of YMMV wicks that ought to have been nuked YEARS ago according to that logic. And the original article was so thin on content that it would have been trivial to cut it, anyway.
At the same time, I am not insensitive to their concern.
A couple questions:
What is the community's opinion on these YMMV wicks?
What rules should we follow to keep the article alive?
openWhat's the Official English Title of this movie?
What's the Official English Title of this movie? "1947: Earth"? Or just plain "Earth"?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_(1998_film)
Because if it's just Film.Earth, it already has something there...
I need to know to properly give a wick from its sequel, Film.Water 2005...
resolved "Plot Point" Tropes on Character pages
Over the past few days I've noticed that Lion King Alex has been deleting tropes like Jerkass Has a Point and Kick The Son Of A Bitch from different My Hero Academia character pages with edit reasons like "Plot point tropes, regardless of how they connect to the character, are narrative beats that are temporary in their nature and don't pervade the character's personality." Meanwhile Okllzoom has readded some with edit reasons like "Any trope that fits a character can go on their profile, even if the trope isn't a trait."
Which is correct? Can "plot point tropes" like Jerkass Has a Point and Kick The Son Of A Bitch go on character pages or not?
Edited by EmeraldSkyopenBroken Base/Base-Breaking Character
On June 7th, tropineasily added an example for Sunstone on BrokenBase.Steven Universe. As it was specifically talking about Sunstone's reception as a character, I moved it to BaseBreakingCharacter.Steven Universe, citing that in my edit reason. Heavy Weapons Pie added it back and said characters were to be listed on Broken Base.
But... Isn't that the entire point of Base-Breaking Character? They didn't remove it from the BBC page when they added it back, either, so I don't know what do.
openRegarding contradictory bullet points/Natter Videogame
I refer to the Fragile Speedster entry for both the main and character page for Valorant.
- Fragile Speedster: Jett can use her mobility to reach areas other agents would find impossible to reach due to height or being killed super hard by bullets from people holding angles. However, after using any of her abilities she has to take a moment to pull her weapon out again, which means if you use your mobility straight into the line of fire, you're a sitting duck.
- Averted however, with how high-level players play her nowadays. In VALORANT, being shot slows your movement speed to a crawl (called tagging). This makes it very difficult to escape back to cover once you've been shot. Jett however, can use her Tailwind to instantly dash to safety even if she's been tagged. This makes her the best Operator-handling agent in the game as she can hold very aggressive angles with the weapon while having no fear of being traded out after a missed shot or from an angry second enemy looking for a trade kill.
- Fragile Speedster: Jett has the highest mobility of the agents, but no defensive abilities in return.
- Subverted if you use her mobility to escape being shot at. In VALORANT, if you are shot your movement speed slows to a crawl, allowing your enemy to get easy follow-up shots on you. Jett can use her Tailwind to escape even if she's been tagged, meaning her survivability is actually well above-average.
I have edited the pages around these edits to preserve them, but want to clarify if there are such contradictory points being surfaced already, should I just remove the entry entirely?
P.S: On second thought, I presume this qualifies entirely as natter?

Do reboots or spin-offs count as sequels, or is there are more appropriate article for that?
openMerchandise for a work comes out even after it gets delayed
Previously on the Early Draft Tie-In page, I had noted that several movies, among them Wonder Woman 1984, Minions: The Rise Of Gru and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, whose productions were currently delayed, had merchandise released even when their productions were delayed, or, in the case of Trolls World Tour, mentioned that they would be in theaters. What trope would this fit under? I was thinking Trailer Delay, but that's for movie trailers.
Edited by mimitchi33openRemoval of Commented-Out Notes Film
Brady Gliwa 73 removed the commented-out messages about Base-Breaking Character, It Was His Sled, and Fandom Rivalry from YMMV.Sonic The Hedgehog 2020 with no explanation.
openOkay to quote lyrics here?
Did some hunting around for an answer to this, but found nothing. While fleshing out a ZCE example in “Leave It to Beaver,” I discovered the lyrics to the theme song and quoted them in full for the Forgotten Theme Tune Lyrics example. Just wanted to make sure that’s okay to do, that I’m not violating copyright doing so. Will remove if it’s an issue.
Thanks!
openAnother of ROCEJ misused?
Dr Y 9 K added description to Horny Devils entry in No Real Life Examples, Please!
- Horny Devils - Also not possible, as while demons may or may not be real, there is no reliable proof of them having sex with humans.
Seriously? Existence of demons is ROCEJ?
openQuote Deletion
masterrobert deleted the quote on The Punisher without an edit reason.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=ComicBook.ThePunisher
Put it back?
openUnnecesarry chairsy redirect
Do we really Non-Identical Twins as a redirect for Alleged Lookalikes? The problem is that its title implies that it's about actual dizygotic twins, which on its own is People Sit on Chairs. I removed an entry that used it like this on Horseland.
Edited by DghcrhopenEdit Warring Western Animation
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tropers/Nopperabo has been edit warring on these two pages. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=WhatMeasureIsAMook.WesternAnimation https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?ar icle=Characters. She Ra And The Princesses Of Power The Horde Granted the What Measureisa Mook entry is not one I am too sure about as it seems right, but at the same time, it's written in a way that seems a little harsh and not factually correct. However, another troper and I have deleted her natter to the Polyamory entries on the sections of Rogelio, Kyle and Lonnie where they state it's not cannon despite the hints on the show and the Wordof God. When the second troper deleted the natter, they still tried to get around it by saying it was the creator's headcanon.
openFor the record, I just added Wiki/VillainsWiki to cut list
Seriously, nothing good ever come from that name when it appear here.
Anyway Wiki.Villains Wiki, created by Dr Y 9 K is stub. Most if not all of examples are ZCE, they're mostly "X: Have this" or "X: 'Name'", but even when they add description it still doesn't give enough context.
openI want to discuss multiple misused tropes Web Original
I misused a number of tropes a while back. Would it be alright if I opened a thread in Trope Repair Shop using multiple misused tropes?
openRequesting a revert
Can a mod revert the latest edit on Raven Hair, Ivory Skin? nickysofficialchnnel removed %% for ZCE. It's supposed to be a newbie, but I somehow doubt it — can it be someone's sock? (I haven't checked their other edits yet.)

How do you rename a trope?
