As for the Ashoka thing, I'd like to bring it up in the thread, because it got added and removed from YMMV.The Mandalorian for "awaiting announcement". It's all but confirmed at this point, but I dunno if I believe it yet.
Boba Fett living is a theory, not canon.
And "Die, dickheads!"... that's hilarious, but it's blatant speculation.
Edited by EarthboundFanI removed the Boba Fett fan theory.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Maybe change the last one to One of the strongest profanity ever heard in Canon.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The last one is a case of people hearing what they want to hear, and isn't even the most popular version. It's a very muted line in the background of some cheering on the bridge of Ackbar's ship after the Executor is destroyed, you can potentially hear it as "So long, Dickhead" but it's impossible to make out the exact words, it could honestly be any number of things.
Edited by Dirtyblue929Fett survives the Sarlaac...sort of...in the Robot Chicken sketches, but it's definitely not canon. Canon being the actual movies — I vaguely recall something like Fett being alive in one of the EU books, but even pre-Disney Lucas didn't count those as canon.
Edited by FranksGirlThere is a long list of lines some people claim to hear in Star Wars that aren't really there. The "dickheads" thing is one of them.
Indeed. I've already removed it as speculation.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Yeah sometimes sounds can be confusing.
Btw the name Ryanasaurus 0077 seems familiar. Hasnt he come up before here ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Multiple times. Though for minor stuff, IIRC.
Found some more:
- Moral Event Horizon:
- Captain Mod Terrik crosses it by ordering the Jawa massacre, the destruction of the Lars homestead, and especially the grisly murder of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
- Dr. Cornelius Evazan is most definitely a beliggerent jerkass, but he crosses it by provoking a bar brawl with the intention of drawing Sandtroopers into the cantina and allowing Greedo an opening to locate and take out Han Solo. And that's before we learn what he'd been up to before and after the events of the film...
- Tarkin well and truly crosses it with the Disaster, in which Alderaan is destroyed on his command. Certain versions make him look even worse after the fact by giving him a line of dialogue during his brief Villainous Breakdown that exposes him as an Omnicidal Maniac, swearing to find the Rebel base if he has to destroy every last star system in the sector in his search.
I checked their edit history and they also seem to have some issues with ZCEs, like with the aforementioned Asshole Victim example.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Just deleted two recent edits by this troper of Moral Event Horizon for Palpatine; sent notifiers. Looking on ATT, they've been brought up before for Star Wars MEH.
- Moral Event Horizon: A possible crossing point for Palpatine is this film, where he sells out his own people to the Trade Federation just so he can replace Valorum as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic.
- Moral Event Horizon: While Palpatine was unabashedly evil beforehand, he crosses the Moral Event Horizon with "Order 66" (if he didn't do so already by orchestrating an invasion of his home planet for an opportunity to climb the political ladder), which involves having his troops massacre the Jedi. You see various Jedi working WITH the troops, only for their trust to be betrayed when said troops take out their guns and begin blasting the Jedi away. Even worse, Star Wars Rebels reveals that some of those troops suffered from PTSD over it.
ETA: Make that 3, and sent them a notifier requesting they please stop adding rumors and Mondegreens to Star Wars articles.
This was on A New Hope:
- Not So Above It All: Eagle-eyed viewers will notice two-and-a-third minutes into the movie that either Princess Leia or Captain Antilles or some random Rebel crewing the Tantive IV is apparently into Playboy Magazine, due to the blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of a Playboy Playmate poster visible through the front window.
You'll "miss it" because it isn't visible unless you look at the physical model in person or photographs of it on display. The Star Wars Databank addressed this at least 13 years ago, an exhibit curator addressed it, and more recently someone on Reddit combed a 4K film scan hard to find... nothing.
Edited by immichanRegarding that last one... I must've missed the three addressings of the Playboy bit when adding it. Guess I should do my research more when reporting possible hard-to-find objects in moving pictures as I learn of them.
As for the Palpatine ones... well, best I can think to say about them is Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil, and what Palpatine did was technically treachery against his home planet for selfish reasons. IIRC MEH is YMMV for a reason; pick your poison as to when Palps crossed it, but either way, Order 66 was for him the point of no return if he hadn't gotten there already.
Isn't MEH one of those tropes that requires approval before an entry is added, or is that just Complete Monster?
Edited by Dirtyblue929The Complete Monster trope actually requires approval in the appropriate forum. As for MEH, I don't think it requires approval last time I checked.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Moral Event Horizon doesn't require any sort of approval, but it does have a dedicated cleanup effort because it's severely misused.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness"Regarding that last one... I must've missed the three addressings of the Playboy bit when adding it. Guess I should do my research more when reporting possible hard-to-find objects in moving pictures as I learn of them."
This doesn't really address the question of why you're treating fan rumors/speculation and stuff that at most would be possible background mistakes as in-universe tropes.
Edited by nrjxllWhen it comes to this user, Ryans Official Cureverse and Ryanasaurus0077s Pretty Cure Fanseries appear to be troping a ton of fanfics that don't actually exist in any meaningful way
Absolute destiny... apeachalypse?^ Looking at that, ryanasaurus0077 created and filled out dozens of pages for their own fanfics, which is allowed, but I'm unclear what you meant by the last part— are the fics not actually publicly accessible? Something else? Are they reverting/deleting other people's edits to those pages?
As far as I can tell, most of them aren't released aside from the trope pages
Absolute destiny... apeachalypse?Move them all the Darth Wiki, if that's the case.
While we're on the subject of "fanfic page weirdness regarding ryanasaurus and Pretty Cure," this reminded me of this kinda unresolved ATT thread but some strange pages that basically serve as a Fanfic/ page for several seemingly unrelated fanfics that individually would be stubs but collectively... might not be?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Picking some at random...
Pretty Cure Android Wars — apparently unreleased, but has works pages on here, that other tropes wiki, and mentioned on LJ as an upcoming work in 2011. Includes a header "This fanfic has thus far been confirmed to feature examples of"
Club Pretty Cure — exists as a script fic on Ryan's dedicated wiki
Pretty Cure Android Wars — apparently unreleased, but has a works pages on here and that other tropes wiki, and Ryan's wiki
ryanasaurus0077: Can you... tell us about all this? I'm trying to understand why all this.
(FYI, I've sent some of your Star Wars MEH entries to the cleanup thread.)
ETA: ... So this is a very old problem that didn't get fixed
Edited by immichanDarth Wiki and cutlist them all. Pinging doesn't work on ATT; the troper has been active today. Sent them a PM for one last opportunity to resolve things.
... so this has been going on for at least eight years and a mod told him to shape up and he... hasn't?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. Those pages were all created back when the Pretty Cure fanseries community didn't seem to understand that you gotta have a work written to have a page on it. Even Caits Meow and Perfume Preppy created pages for their works when they hadn't been written yet. Guess that's what happens when a fandom shows up before concrete standards are established regarding ZCE's and works pages and whatnot. But I have been getting better about it in the eight years since, though nobody's perfect, and as made explicit here I, too, tend to slip every now and then. But overall, I think I've been doing better than I was eight years ago, as far as I can remember.
^ If you're doing better, you should have cutlisted the pages that don't have fics associated with them
Absolute destiny... apeachalypse?True, that. But then, cutlisting pages without fics associated with them is one thing I wasn't aware of until very recently. Plus, I kind of forgot about them altogether due to some very nasty (to put it lightly) drama involving the fandom around that time that I've since moved on from and would rather not import.
... I mean, a mod told you they need to go to Darth Wiki eight years ago. That's kind of on you.
But that's in the past. So what are you going to do now?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Well, I'm not going to quit, because I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the now-banned Cure_Midoriri wants me to do. In fact, I'm pretty sure she ended up getting the last laugh over me four and a half years after she got the boot, to see such terrible ideas get dragged out long after I'd all but forgotten about them. At any rate, it looks like I've got a quite bit of cleaning up to do over the weekend, and not just at my house.
Who is Cure_Midoriri and why does their last laugh matter?
Edited by sgamer82Never you mind that, my point is, I've got egg on my face, and I'm going to do some much-needed cleanup of old junk from several years ago over the weekend. It's times like these I Hate Past Me so damn much...
Edited by ryanasaurus0077Ryan added this to Unbuilt Trope.Star Wars section:
"** The reason for the Stormtroopers' reputation in the fandom? They were putting on a show of incompetence on the orders of Darth Vader himself, to keep Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca occupied long enough that he'd be able to have a tracking device secured on the Millennium Falcon by the time they got back—and previous firefights involving Stormtroopers show them perfectly capable of hitting their marks with deadly precision (those poor Jawas...), and several Rebels perish during the first firefight, on board the Tantive IV."
Is there a source for that? I haven't watched ANH in a while.
Edited by lalalei2001 The Protomen enhanced my life. That's a very common Fan Wank but there's absolutely nothing in ANH to indicate it's true. Supplemental materials of dubious canonicity have probably confirmed it at some point, I'm sure.
The thing with the fanwank is that it works just as well if you go "Darth Vader knew the storm troopers were incompetent enough that they weren't going to hit anything" which is honestly more believable to me than "stormtroopers willingly died for the sake of a ruse."
Edited by Larkmarn Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. They also placed that on RealityEnsues.Star Wars.
This appears to be another case of reading fan explanations (in this case "why did the stormtroopers miss" + "they let us escape" + "this had better work" = they missed on purpose), and then inserting fan speculation as an example of a trope that explicitly happens in the work.
Ryanasaurus 0077, we discussed this in PM. The very basic question of tropes on works pages is "does this happen in the work?" You've proceeded to do the same thing we talked about not doing. I'm requesting that you to please stop editing anything Star Wars, as you've shown no effort to change and you're making more work for those of us in Star Wars Cleanup who have to clean up after you.
If that's a forum thread it might be better to ping ~ryanasaurus0077 there, since I'm pretty sure the PM ping doesn't work in ATT.
I'm pretty sure it all happened in ANH—I should know, because I rewatched the original trilogy on Disney+ right before my birthday—but then, I never explicitly said Stormtroopers died for a ruse, and there was no other explanation in the film as to how the Stormtroopers were able to get their marks right sometimes but not other times, apart from the bit where the Empire lets the Rebels escape the Death Star as part of a final gambit to discover the location of the Rebels' hidden fortress, and so I can't really vouch for the actual aiming skills of each individual Stormtrooper (not that it would be possible to find that out, anyway, there's just so many Stormtroopers, and a lot of them haven't even been identified yet, either in Legends or the Disney canon or both).
But again: does this happen in the work? No. You came up with an explanation for their aiming skills being as accurate as the plot demands. Since this isn't answered in the film, other explanations may be: only legally blind stormtroopers were sent in, Vader punked Motti by sending some of his troops as cannon fodder, Luke and Leia unconsciously clouded their minds and aim, the stormtroopers were ordered to fire very precisely NOT on the Rebels and just "make it look good", they tried but they really couldn't see a thing in those helmets, Vader actually ordered only one survivor left to track but oops they bungled those orders and left everyone alive, Vader only ordered the tracking and Leia just assumed he also ordered an easy escape...
What have you done towards the 8-year delay on the fanfic cleanup, which you said you'd tackle this past weekend?
(Thanks for the ATT ping reminders—I wasn't trying the ping thing but that's good to know!) Edited by immichan
Well, last weekend I put a bunch of fic pages on cutlist.
It really looks like Ryan used TV Tropes to plan what tropes he wanted to use if he ever wrote those fics. And he's had years now to put things on Darth if he wants them somewhere, but hasn't done so.
I launched into dewicking and cutlisting. I'm still not done but ran out of steam for the night to finish the job. I may have mistakenly removed some that do exist or missed some that don't. I did google searches to see if anything besides tropes sites and his own wiki showed matches, with his own wiki's extensive redlinks to compare against.
Still TBD: FanFic/PrimaPrettyCure, FanFic/PrettyCureMagicalCards, FanFic/PublicBroadcastingPrettyCure, FanFic/WidescreenPrettyCure, FanFic/TimePrettyCure, FanFic/PrettyCureCostumeParty, FanFic/PrettyCureWonderfulReading, Characters/PrettyCureWonderfulReading, FanFic/PrettyCure2028, Characters/PrettyCure2028, YMMV/PrettyCure2028, FanFic/MineralPrettyCure, Characters/MineralPrettyCure
Edited by immichanAgain, this is why I Hate Past Me. I was young and stupid years ago, and still had a drive for actively writing things. Sadly, that drive has long since faded due to ugly events, like I said earlier, I’d rather not discuss here.
I think the problem is not the past Ryan's but the current issues that others are more concerned about and wondering about .
Edited by TuvokWell, it can be said that some issues faded only to make room for others, the current one being I can't seem to tell the difference between Legends and Disney canon and don't look hard enough for confirmation about things I hear about regarding the Star Wars franchise, such as Boba Fett surviving the Sarlaac and that bit about the Playboy Playmate poster that was put into the Tantive IV prop for decoration and never appeared in the film proper despite the claims of a bloopers page.
Except some of the stuff you put down was in neither cannon and just your theory and assumption. While OK in WMG it seems you make it a habit to adding stuff you perceive or assumed to have happened on a semi-regular basis and that's the main concern.
For the Boba Fett one, at least, I went by this line from FamousLastWords.Star Wars (which, by the way, I didn't add):
"It's been confirmed that he survived and escaped the Sarlacc, like his Legends counterpart."
Also...
@immichan You did manage to overdo it a little, as I have written a few episodes of Rhythmic Pretty Cure, though to be honest I have been thinking of redoing it, if and when I ever get back my drive for writing fics.
And for the ones that existed in neither but comes off as spculatuve troping? I think the problem is that you think there is no problem. You add stuff like blaming a troper you had issue before, or other stuff you did not add but could of. That seems like the issues that occurred could occur again.
Edited by TuvokI'm not acting like there isn't a problem, I'm just saying I'm not the only one who's had that problem; see, to understand why these pages even existed, you'd have had to be part of the Pretty Cure fandom when it was at its most toxic and Wild West-like, several years ago, when many of us in the fandom who were also tropers at the time, myself included, assumed those fics would be written at some point in the near future. Obviously, that assumption turned out to be incorrect.
Edited by ryanasaurus0077This thread is getting absurdly long.
Resolve this: cutlist all fics that don't exist, including subpages, and discussions about the Star Wars clean-up can be in that thread. Ryan, given the givens, I heavily encourage you to participate, lest this get worse.
ryanasaurus0077 has made these edits on Star Wars pages:
The Rise of Skywalker:
- Killed Offscreen: Ahsoka Tano is heard as one of the voices speaking to Rey when the spirits of all the Jedi manifest in her to help defeat Palpatine, suggesting that she may have perished sometime between Season 2 of The Mandalorian and this film since all the other voices are of the deceased.
(their edit in the spoiler text; it was made to a previous example — I deleted the whole thing for Speculative Troping)Return of the Jedi:
