Find a Trope:
openWhat kind of denial is this? Anime
The sole teacher in the Schoolgirl Series Wasteful Days of High School Girls once stated in front of his high-school students that he's into college girls. But as he rambles on, it's obvious to the girls that he is actually into Joshikousei, but is forced into a closet due to the possibility of a Reality Ensues fallout. The entire class is suitably Blue with Shock for that.
- Just from the description above, his speech should count as False Reassurance, or some other kind of denial?
- Also, as sexuality is concerned, if he treats college girls as a "more legal substitute" for high school girls, what trope is it?
openOnly do that in front of the person you like! Anime
An anime trope where one character's flirt attempt will be met with bashfulness and some variation of "Idiot! only do that with the boy you like!"
Used to show interest from a previously assumed dense love interest.
openYakuza Face Anime
Do we have this one? A peculiar facial expression frequently seen in anime, particularly among characters who are gangsters or who are acting as if they are. Sharply up-tilted eyebrows as if pained, paired with narrowed, bored or angry eyes. The mouth's position is irrelevant, though sometimes seen grinning for maximum contrast, or with a cigarette held between teeth.
Hard to describe, sorry, did my best without pictures!
openSplit personality trope? Anime
Do we have this one?
- Alice has a Split-Personality Team who are all good (and all female so no Multi-Gendered Split Personalities), but that's a Justified Trope as Alice is a Nice Girl.
- In the fictional universe, Alice is on the good side, but neither side is completely good or evil (Grey-and-Grey Morality) so is Alice being a Nice Girl impossible in this situation?
- Alice has Split Personality, but all of them are good with no Superpowered Evil Side (even the supposed Superpowered Evil Side is actually a Superpowered Good Side, not a Helpless Good Side).
openUniverse Creator? Anime
Is there a trope for where a god creates new universes (no, not in the Word of God kind of way... a cosmic god).
I looked through God Tropes and found The Maker, but could there be any other similar tropes?
openRelativistic punch? Anime
Is there a trope for when some one takes a punch to the gut that trows them back but when the punch lands they stay still for a second, but then fly off. I've been calling it a relativistic punch. Examples: https://youtu.be/jakLeunGJGU?t=267 and https://youtu.be/GEco59SZqzc?t=244
openEyes almost shut of hatred Anime
A manga trope where a character with Eyes Always Shut (or whose face currently has a closed-eyes look) gets a zoom on their face, revealing that their eyes are just barely open as an expression of the immense rage/hatred they're feeling.
openEldritch Abomination trope? Anime
Do we have this one?
Alice and Bob are Walking the Earth, and run into an Eldritch Abomination who takes the form of a Zettai Ryouiki young Japanese woman. Bob asks to see her true form, which has more than four dimensions and is the size of a skyscraper (sort of like Ah! My Goddess and the demon's true forms), and is surprised by it but doesn't go mad, whereas Alice goes mad from seeing it.
Basically - Bob has no trouble with the true form, Alice does.
Edited by Merseyuser1openAn English dub change that is considered better than what was shown in the Japanese version. Anime
Basically, a change to the script in the English dub that wasn't part of the Japanese version makes it come off as superior than what was presented in the Japanese version.
openHeroic equivalent of BigBadDuumvirate Anime
I've looked at several indexes, but can't seem to find one like it. The closest ones I could find are all explicitly about villains (Big Bad Duumvirate, Co-Dragons, and Terrible Trio).
I need a heroic equivalent because I'm updating the character info for Maken-ki! and need it for Demitra, Minerva, and Yan-Min. The most recent chapters reveal they're trio and said to be the strongest three members of Venus Academy.
Edited by MiinUopenYu-Gi-Oh! GX Undubbed Season 4 Anime
According to the https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_GX_-_Episode_155 Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki, the reason why there was never a dubbed season 4 was because TV Tokyo and Creator/Konami forced 4Kids Entertainment to abandon GX and focus solely on the untested Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, and this action left 4Kids very upset. What would we call this?
Edited by crystalbeach96openSubservient character? Anime
Other than Minionwith An F In Evil, what trope would fit a character who's subservient to the Big Bad, but actually wants to break free of him, yet can't?
And while on the subject of anime (which this is classified under), what trope would fit for a demon who is actually good but no-one believes they're good because they're, well, a demon?
openFire revives Big Bad? Anime
Do we have this one?
Fire revives the Big Bad / Dark Lord on Life Support who was killed by the protagonists, effectively giving him a new body but retaining previous memories.
Edited by Merseyuser1openWhen a show/book/manga/etc. makes a reference to a previous work from the same crew/author Anime
Isn't there a trope for this?
openPilot > Mech Anime
An Ace Pilot pushes his ride so hard that it starts falling apart around him.
openHorror anime, guy unknowingly eats brains Anime
So, I've seen this anime over 15 years ago, and it is still in my mind. I don't remember much, so I don't want to get my hopes up. I think it was series of horror animes / cartoons. I don't remember any details, set or setting, I remember a part- a guy was really hungry, decided to brake into a shop (?) of some kind. It was really dark, he couldn't really see what he was doing, but he found a fridge (?) and started eating. Next think you know, it's light now and guy realises he's eating brains or other humanly parts, not sure. I don't know if it was a series, or just part of animated movie, I just have that one scene in my mind. Any help to rediscover that piece would be really appreciated.
openImpostor of impostor Trope? Anime
Is there a trope for where an impostor is actually an impostor of another impostor?
For example (non-canon), if there was an impostor of Goku from Dragon Ball but then the impostor didn't turn out to be the impostor people had heard of, but actually an impostor of the fake Goku?
Basically, an impostor of someone who's already faking their identity.
Is there such a trope or is this TLP-worthy?
openAmbivalent Nature Anime
Is there a trope for someone with an ambivalent nature?
For example: In Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia, Hayuru's character is strongly against any and all forms of sexual activity because she believes it's immoral. So she's surprised when she finds out that she has a hidden catgirl fetish. Even after being made aware of it, she initially refuses to accept it, because it goes against her personal beliefs about sex.
