This thread is for tropers who have trouble with English and would like some help with the crazy grammar of this crazy language.

Write down what you wish to edit on the wiki. If you have been suspended from editing, another troper might be kind enough to edit for you after your suggestions have been corrected.

The thread is for help and feedback on your own suggested edits.

If you want help correcting other people's edits (e.g., if you find a page which seems to have grammar problems but want a second opinion, or you don't feel able to fix it by yourself) then that's off-topic here, but we have a separate Grammar Police cleanup thread that can provide assistance.

For YMMV.MGCM:

  • Accidental Innuendo: The magic beads (both SR and UR rarity) has point ends on both sides (top and bottom), which some players, especially dirty minded ones, think those beads look like butt plugs or condoms.

When you say "rarity," do you mean "variety"?

EDIT: No, wait, I get it. UR stands for "ultra rare" and "SR" for "super rare."

Some people think of Luxo Jr. is commonly thought of as a murderer who every time stomps that "I" on the Pixar Vanity Plate to death and then looks at the audience, silently telling them they're next. This has led to parodies of the logo such as this one, <- comma in which the point of view is of the "I" and the whole situation is Played for Horror.

^ I changed "commonly thought of" to "Some people think" because as far as I know, this isn't a commonly held belief. This is mainly because none of the letters, including the I, is portrayed as being alive.

A question: in general, will anyone here help edit those examples into articles we mentioned if we're suspended?

"The Geronimo Stilton series boasts many books and Spin-Off series since 2000, primarily due to all the ghostwriters and freelance artists employed to write and illustrate the books—all of which are published under the fictional protagonist's name."

By the way, are you sure that they're written by ghost writers, and not just one writer using a pseudonym? I looked online, but could find no info about them actually being ghost-written... Granted, my Italian is at such a low level that an ant could trip on it, but still...

onyhow: Depends. I do it sometimes, but not regularly. In general, it's best to assume that you'll have to edit them in yourself, once you're unsuspended.

Oh, and while you're usually only unsuspended after improving your English, I've seen people get unsuspended by promising that they'll post every one of their examples here first, and only edit them into an actual page once they've been corrected by somebody.

[up][up] It seems very likely. Because, how can Elisabetta Dami write all those books in 20 years, and she is only credited for the original idea, not the text, in the copyright section?

[down] Yeah, you're right. I should only add it in if it's confirmed.

For Berserk Button, can you define "really hates"? The trope requires a blatantly disproportionate reaction to the enraging stimulus — the page image shows a guy violently flipping out over being called "short".

For Disappeared Dad: "He" is an ambiguous pronoun here and could refer to either Deuce or his father. I'd rewrite it like this:

  • Disappeared Dad: Deuce's father is never seen nor mentioned once within the game. In Chapter 1-12, Deuce only mentions to Yuu and Grim that he's the only guy in the family, and often helps his mother with heavy loads. It is unknown whether hisDeuce's father's died when he was young or he left his mother before he was born.

* DisappearedDad: Deuce's father is never seen nor mentioned once within the game. In Chapter 1-12, Deuce mentions to Yuu and Grim that he's the only guy in the family, and often helps his mother with heavy loads. It is unknown whether Deuce's father died when he was young or left his mother before he was born.

Also, I'm not sure what "In chapter 1-12" is meant to refer to. Does something change after chapter 12, or is this a serial work which has yet to progress past that point?

  • Adapted Out: As part of the revisions to Shadow campaign in the Definitive Edition, Ameila Black's voice over, as well as her cameo, no longer appear. She is merely referenced Instead. Chayton subsequently takes over the narration allowing the story to further focus on him and his struggle.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Billy Holme was always a piece of work, but in the Definitive Edition, he's made into a old war buddy of Chayton's making his betrayal of his trust even worse. What's more, during the Civil War, there where rumours he would sneak onto battlefields after the fighting and loot the dead, which Chayton always defended him from.

For Opening a Can of Clones or Expendable Clone Video Game section:

  • Averted in MGCM, where the heroines' deaths get undone, thanks to player character's avatar Omnis' ability to create a new universe with wanted possibilities and then merges the previously screwed-up universe with the new one. Unfortunately plays straight for ones who are slain and subsequently corrupted into demons, since the corrupted ones are immune to merging. Instead, they're replaced by copies from his newly created universe.

Minorica: I think you need to decide which one of the tropes it's meant to be. If you use the exact same example text for two different tropes, it indicates that your example text isn't clear enough.

(Also, I'm not sure if you can call it an aversion if the trope does happen at least some of the time.)

  • The Cameo: An animal based on Big Name Fan Bobby Schroeder's — aka ponettplus — avatar appears in issue #33.

Putting the "adjective" (in this case Big Name Fan) in front of the noun makes the sentence flow better. Using dashes to separate an antecedent is a personal preference, though words in parenthesis are discouraged in examples anyway.
