Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Sniper Assassin:

  • Mr. Johnson is the CEO of FFG Corp., a textile manufacturing front for a drug operation. When Johnson catches wind of the fact that Shawn Davidson has been recruited to take down his organization, he has infiltrators mislead Shawn’s agency before having Shawn’s wife murdered. In order to protect himself, and gain the upper hand on Shawn, Johnson infiltrates Shawn’s agency under a false identity, and when he is captured by Shawn, claims he was forced to help Mr. Johnson to protect his family, (when in fact he paid someone to stalk a random family). Subsequently, Johnson, still pretending to be his own subordinate, manipulates Shawn into killing some of his subordinates , including some that are disloyal to him, even tricking Shawn into torturing a subordinate who reveals Johnson’s ruse after Johnson escapes. Johnson leaves a note taunting Shawn, mockingly congratulating the latter for helping him. Johnson spends the rest of his screen-time trying to escape justice, while his men try to kill Shawn, only for him to finally die at Shawn’s hands.
  • Mr. J, real given name Jacob is Johnson’s subordinate turned successor, having exploited Johnson’s death in order to take over FFG Corp. J is introduced off screen, revealing that, while Johnson did order Mrs. Davidson’s murder, J actually carried it out. When Shawn’s agency decides to try and take down FFG Corp. again, he has Agent Charlie captured as bait, letting his own men die at Shawn’s hands while he and some of his other subordinates kill Shawn’s supervisor and friend Ben, amongst other people at Shawn’s agency. When Shawn and the agency continue to try and take FFG Corp. down, he leaves his men to be slaughtered in order to lay a trap for Shawn. When the trap fails, J bides his time, having his men try to kill Shawn, and new agency recruit Marco. Later, J taunts Shawn when the latter shows up at his mansion, before throwing a grenade and escaping, while his men try to neutralize the law enforcement. J attempts to escape on foot, exploiting the civilian crowd running in the opposite direction as him, to no avail, as Shawn manages to apprehend him. Finally, despite his poor treatment of his subordinates, J expects his subordinate, Mr. Lee, to save him from imprisonment, only for Lee to betray him like he himself betrayed Johnson.

Ep time

So what's the work ?

Tentyrian Legacy is a vampire novel by Elise Walters, published by Permuted Press in 2014.

The legacy begins in the sands of Egypt in a time when an ancient city called Tentyris flourished. Its secretive people, ruled by the Council of the Zodiac, lived peacefully alongside humanity. That time was 53 B.C. More than two millennia later, the power of the Tentyrian people has been all but forgotten. The remnants of memory that live on have been turned into twisted folklore about vampires and astrology.

One girl on the cusp of womanhood is about to discover just how real that folklore is.

With telepathic powers that made her parents send her to a mental institution, Arianna Parker always knew she was different—but she never thought a job interview would lead to the discovery of her being a prophesied descendent of an ancient Egyptian vampire race. Nor for that matter did she think she would fall in love with Maximos Vasilliadis, a 2,225 year old vampire. Maximos is the creator of the Tentyrian Brotherhood—a secret order of warriors, pledged to prevent a catastrophic event predicted to wipe out Earth.

Maximos believes Arianna is a descendent of his kind—the Tentyrian vampires—and she has been destined to lead their cause in saving the world. With her 25th birthday approaching, an event that will change her forever, Arianna finds herself caught in the middle of warring vampires—some of whom intend to use her and her power of telepathy for evil.

So whoose the villain and what have they done ?

Stavros was one of the ruling twelve Zodiac of the Tentyrians. He'd always looked down upon humanity, viewing viewing them as inferior to Tentyrians/Vampires and wished for the council to take control, something that the rest didnt agree with, wanting to live in piece with humans. So he decided after two centuries that he wished to take over, he allied with three other zodiac members (Calyx and the twin sisters Agalia and Asilia) and had one of the rulers assaianted using a human envoy who didnt like said Tentyrians.

Now the wife of said ruler and one of the other of the main rulers (Hathor) proposed a move towards a far away fortress as she feared that a great disaster would soon cause damage to them if they satyed here. During the festivties which marked the move, Stavros sensing an opportuinity had Agalia and Asilia who had the power to start inicdary fires, start one in the the old city which took the lives of various people. Using it as a cover, he persuaded Calix who was gifted with the ability to entre a person's mind and than break it or take control of them(Normally it wouldnt work on another Tentyrian as there immune to it but he had help from Stavro's lover Selene who has the power to weaken a Tentyrian's powers and hence take away said immunity) hence allowing has one of Hathor's daughters taken over and has her kill her own mther since they knew that would be one of the only people that Hathor would trust completly.

Now after the move to said new city, Stavros has several of the soliders there taken to his side by sowing doubt and has the council siezed. He threthens to burn down and kill their covens if they dont go along with him and publicly relinquish power to him. They go along with it but as a failsafe, the nursery containg the children of the other leaders would be kept as a blackmail. So at the ceremony though, Daria (the leader of one of the deposed) figures out that Stavros is lying and that he plans on discetly wiping out said covens and children anyway having planted incidary bombs to go off when the time was right. so she tells the people to rebel and hence Stavros' and the rest of the dark coven as they'd be called later (Calix and Agalia) have therei forces attack and than bomb—the'd set it upo to blow anyway— said nursery (Only 4 childre were able to be rescued and were subsequently taken far away by to keep them safe).

Now confronting Daria, Stavros' attempts to get her mother Hathor's book of prophecy whihc contains pretty much everything that would happen for the next two thousand years. Effectivly a roadmap to total control over how the world woulld be like, he says that if se gives him the book, he'll hand over one of her sisters who he has captive in exchange for it. Howvever said sister during the exchnage relaises how horrible this would be to have him in control of said piece and relises that he wouldnt have honoured it, has the book teleported out with the city toasted by Stavro's forces afterwards leading to the near genocide3 of the tentyrian's aside from the dark coven (.

After his defeat, stavros' and the dark coven begin a campaign of terror throughpout the world, playing humanity against each other from the shadows, selling weapens and information that intentionally causes a conflict to become far worse with a far higher than normal bodycount an than reap the rewards and profits afterwards. Stavros and crew also use there blood to transform mortals into mindless servants/slaves or food, a process which they've done to the pooint that in 2010, they have an army in the hundreds (spread out through companies they own). There newest plan being to corner the market using a anti-radiotcive drug called DTNP (Its just implied. Duie to this series being cut off but since Stavros' plans on wiping the slate clean and wiping pout most of humaniy so the dark coven can rule supreme, he plans on using nuclear weapens to achive it. Hence his control of this influential ant-radioticve drug would give him control over the entire wolrd thats left).

Now to the present, he disovers that Arianna has inherited Tentyrian powers being a descdant of one of the around 4 children who were able to escape. Realising she could be a hindernce to his plans, he attempts to kidnap her, only for her to be saved by her friend and gaurdian Raad and she gets taken to safety by maximos. Stavros' and Calix have him captured and torured for information, he wouldnt break that way, so Calix has him drugged and brainwashed into giving them info before being disposed off. Realising that he needs to get her attention, he kidnaps her best friend laura and plasn to use her as a bargaiing chip. Laura is actually very intelligent and plays it up that she wants to betray Arianna since she wants to save hersefl. She realises that Stvaros' is a classic narciistic sociopath and that playing to his ego, she could get information to help arianna. Stavros' actually falls for this as he's that self absorbed. So during the climax, when arianna comes to rescue her, Stavros' figures that laura's been playing him by finding out about and trties to kill her. He gets stopped though and shot full of cynaide bullets (This wont kill him, since Tentyrian's can recover from posion but it will put him out of commision for awhile), he teleportrs away quickly.

The epilogue than has him sending a letter to Arianna boasting that she might have won now but he'll be back for round two And...thats about it. Novel got relased in 2014 and there still isnt word on a sequel in 2018. So yeah...

Freudian Excuse ?

Nah

Mitigating factors?'

Alright lets go over them:

  • When his lover selene died, he expected to mourn her as is normal but felt....nothing. He than jokes to himself that "I guess it wasnt love after all"
  • He simply views Calix and aglia as pawns on the table even if he's cordial with them for the most part. Even admitting that Agalia's twin sisters' death helped to keep her on this part.
  • He was fascinated and somehwat itrigued by lauar but admiited it was more becuase he was fasicasnted and that when he got bored, he was probably going to get rid of her anway and he tries to.
  • He views himself and tentryians as superior to humanity but thats simply his narcismim and he even admiits that he'd get rid of her after he got bored and he does he try to kill her anyway.

Heinous standard ? He orchestrated the genoide of his own species, blew up a nursery filled with children and has spent centuriesswindling humanity into ruin. We never find out what his ultimate plan is due to the there not being a sequl but he does more tha enough in this book

Also beofre you ask. Of the other members of the dark coven. Agalia doesnt really do much on page and loved her twin sister to the point of a mental breakdown after her death while Calix is probably heinous enough on his own but has some narration that woild disqualify him.

Conclusion ?

[tup] for Stavros. Also, got Darkan's write-up done.

Dream Walker: Lord Darkan, the ruler of Cardigal, is a vicious lizard who relishes in dominating those in and around his city. With an army of lizards and spiders at his command, Darkan and his forces seek out strong warriors around the world, kidnapping and imprisoning them before forcing them to fight in the Kingdom of Fighters tournaments. Those who refuse to fight are either killed or cajoled into fighting after Darkan threatens to murder their families. When Darkan learns that Koa is a Dream Walker with extraordinary power, he and his army storm Koa's village and force his father to deliver Koa into his custody. After Koa initially refuses to join the Kingdom of Fighters tournament and threatens to kill Darkan, Darkan convinces him to fight by smugly telling Koa that should anything happen to him, his soldiers will slaughter all of the prisoners in Cardigal as well as Koa's entire village.

@ACW: No, Willem had nothing to do with what the church did. The Orphanage - from which sprung the organisation "The Choir", for its part, was an autonomous wing of the church. It very much did its own thing. Anyway, Willem only had anything to do with the affairs of Byrgenwerth, from which The Healing Church and all its factions split off from.

Something about the Impostor I forgot to mention is that she's only unique in that she is a personal character as opposed to other figures in the game being either completely absent or so far gone mentally as to be almost without personality.
