Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

There is something I am wondering should we put the keepers from the films of Quentin Tarantino into a tree? Those being Boss Matsumoto, Stuntman Mike, Zed and Maynard. We don't normally do this for creators but Taratino himself does through Word of God say that most of his movies (which includes all of those) are in the same universe.

~Tropers/Lightysnake, what are your thoughts on a Tarantinoverse Tree? I may have EP'd the pawn shop guys, but I personally am unsure it is necessary, given that the loose continuity was not taken into account for the Pawn Shop discussion.

[up][up]Not necessary. They're all ones he directed. No need to separate them like that.

EDIT: Oh you meant the entries in a tree. No, not that either. Much like the Happy Death Day movies and Freaky right now, the continuity is VERY loose and Word of God is not enough.

Yes to Proctor, gonna abstain on YHVH for now.

So, everyone remember like a week ago when Scrags discussed Caged Heat 3000, which was a claaaaassic Girls Behind Bars scenario but in SPAAAACE? Well after we watched the flick, the madlad actually found a comic book adaptation, and it follows the film pretty closely...except for the addition of an entirely new subplot and Big Bad!

Who is Velana? What has she done?

Hailing from a race of telepathic religious women named the Gynostics, Velana arrives on the prison camp penal colony A-4 where the story takes place in, apparently serving as the new "Confessor" for the prison, aka personal interrogator. Using her telepathic powers, Velana greatly enjoys mind raping prisoners for information, either turning them into drooling slaves for Velana's orgasmic touch or just torturing their minds with pure agony to their nerve centers.

Soon enough though, the truth comes out: Velana is "the Apostate", a Satanic Archetype of the Gynostic's religion who was once the second-most powerful and beloved Gynostic until she murdered a fellow sister to steal her powers, personified to Gynostics as a "fruit" to devour (they getting in the good religious imagery and sexual fruit nibbling!) When Velana was discovered for this treacherous slaying, Velana escaped from justice and became a Serial Killer of Gynostics, butchering hundreds of them over the course of years so as to consume their powers for herself and become stronger.

And so, under the guise of "interrogating" prisoners, Velana actually tortures and mind rapes them into her sex slave assassins, which she uses to begin causing chaos throughout A-4 and taking dozens of hostages. Velana's end game is to mentally terrorize the hundreds of inmates until they are all turned into her horny, sexually-devoted soldiers that she will use to kill countless people across the galaxy to further increase her power and find more and more Gynostics to slaughter and female prisoners to turn into her slaves, until she reigns supreme over all life.

Luckily, the arrival of some heroic Gynostics weakens Velana long enough for our main heroine Kira to deal a killing blow with a sharp metal object, finishing off Velana and saving the prisoners of A-4 from being sadistic, knife-toting horndogs for the evil Satan nun lady.

Yippee!

Mitigating features?

Uhhhh no. Pretty cut-and-paste case of power hungry psycho turning on her own kind and being regarded as a pure evil scumbag by the lot of them, even her offers to others to team up with her in a We Can Rule Together blatantly presented as just attempts by her to twist more folks into her slaves.

Heinousness?

Ok so like, the directors of the prison itself—Warden Lewis and Deputy Warden Reitman—are both dicks like in the movie, but...the comic very much glazes over their atrocities to instead hone in on Velana and her evil, even Reitman—the CM Scrags got up from the film—is lacking most of his viscerally nasty bits that put him over in the crapsack world of the story. Meanwhile, Velana is a vicious serial killer of hundreds of Gynostics and a regular mind rapist of women, whose ultimate goal is to mentally assault (in what is portrayed as very sexual because of course!) thousands of women to brainwash them into her sex slave-sadist-assassins. Nasty stuff!

Final Verdict?

Yeeee

What is the Work?

Smiling Friends is an animated series on Adult Swim that follows the misadventures of Charlie and Pim, members of the Smiling Friends, a business dedicated to making people smile.

Who is Mip and what has he Done?

Mip is a Bilbo Baggins-looking Forest Folk of the Enchanted Forest searching for a great hero to deliver his mysterious package to the princess of the Enchanted Forest.

Mip makes his first appearance rescuing Charlie and Pim from a witch. They join Mip on his quest and Mip wins Charlie's good graces by giving him a mysterious green potion to cure a headache he had from earlier. After Charlie saves a sentient tree from dying, Mip proclaims that Charlie must be a hero. And indeed, Charlie eventually becomes a renowned, armor-clad warrior after completing several quests along with Mip. Pim begins to grow increasingly jealous of Charlie's popularity as well as Mip seemingly replacing him as Charlie's best friend.

When they reach the princess' castle, Mip and Charlie stop to rest by a campfire and Mip alluringly declared that Charlie was the worthy hero he had been searching for to deliver his package to the Princess. While Mip and Charlie slept, Pim, driven to insanity from jealousy, attempted to steal Mip's package to finish the quest himself, but Charlie catches him in the act. During the fight, Mip is knocked backwards on a spear and mortally wounded. In his dying breath, Mip declares that Pim was also worthy of completing the quest, and claims that he did not want to interfere with Charlie and Pim's friendship. He then demonically melted into goo as he died, much to Charlie and Pim's surprise and the two decide to finish the quest in Mip's memory.

The Smiling Friends make it to the Princess' castle and deliver Mip's package to her. In a twist, the Princess reveals that Mip was the reason all along why she couldn't smile: he is her stalker and she tried to block him on all social media and moved castles twice all because of him. This leaves one question: what is in the package? The Princess opens the package to reveal Mip's "gift" was a live bomb — to Charlie and Pim's horror — and she throws it out of the window seconds before it detonates which potentially kills dozens of the Enchanted Forests' inhabitants. The Smiling Friends then succeed in making the Princess smile after they confirm that Mip was dead.

Oh, and remember that potion Mip gave Charlie to get rid of his headache? It was actually poison and makes him deathly ill.

Freudian Excuse?

None from what we are given. Mip has next to nothing of an excuse beyond being a creepy stalker who thinks the Princess should be his, even if means killing her.

Mitigating Factors

  • He saves Charlie and Pim from being eaten by a witch, but looking back, this was clearly Pragmatic Villainy so he could use them as unwitting suicide bombers to kill the Princess.

  • As for his relationship with Charlie, Mip actually seems to like Charlie, like really like him, calling him a great hero and giving him a "potion" that cures his headache... But obviously, this is undone when it is revealed that he meant for Charlie to be killed by delivering his bomb to the Princess, not to mention secretly poisoning him as a backup plan earlier.

  • When he claims that he never meant to destroy Charlie and Pim's friendship this was simply a lie to get Pim on his side and have him die with Charlie as well as revenge for Pim indirectly causing his death.

  • Although he starts off as something of a parody of Bilbo Baggins, he certainly becomes far more than just that as the episode progresses. His death scene and the reveal of his plot to kill the Princess are also treated as genuinely horrifying and serious despite the show's absurd setting so him being too comedic is not a problem here.

Heinousness

Mip clears it. He's easily the evilest character in the show so far (keep in mind that Satan himself makes an appearance in this show). He attempted to destroy Charlie and Pim's friendship, drove Pim to borderline villainy by taking his friend away, and plotted to use Charlie and Pim as unwitting suicide bombers to be killed along with the Princess by his bomb just because she rejected him, and although he does ultimately fails to kill the Princess, his bomb still goes off directly in range of the Enchanted Forest, killing who knows how many innocent creatures.

Final Verdict?

Easy [tup] to Hobbit!Ricardo Lopez.

[tup]Mary, Danarius, Randall and his quote, Deep, Bittiker, Hernado Pizarro, Denton, Sphinx, Proctor, Velana.

Abstain on YHVH and Mip.

So seeing that this is being discussed already in the MB thread, I guess I may discus it here as well.

Project A75 is the latest entry in the Looperverse, and it's along Post Mortem (2022) the point where the Canon Welding passes from some Easter Eggs to outright crossovers, the story starts when Amelia Kent, Leeny Jones and Adam Hemmensway are kidnapped by an Ancient Conspiracy called "Project A75", leaded by Mr. Pink, later they try to escape with help of Jack Lane. It turns out that Project A75 are in fact rogue agents from Jack's resistance who found a way to travel to the past and tried to stop their future from happening only to accidentally create a Stable Time Loop that ended in that future and Jack found a way to follow them and is trying to stop their second plan, which basically is use a Fantastic Drug to turn all of humanity into humble and passive machines.

There isn't any new keeper as the only new villains are Mr. Pink and his henchmen, and Mr. Pink is a genuine Well-Intentioned Extremist who is remorseful over his actions and has some honor and standards, despite partially empowering other villains as The Strangler and Ryan Rhodes, knowingly driving Ralph insane via killing his parents, forcing the protagonists to revive their traumas and planning to brainwash all of humanity between other crimes.

However Ryan returns and not only still keeps but gets even worse than he was in his original apparition (yes apparently that it's apparently possible. Also I wanna explain that Ralph doesn't outheinous him as while he kills more people with similar resources, most of them are off-screen and as The Strangler he does it over the course of various years.

Being freed along Ralph by Mr. Pink and voluntarily joining him when he learned that he would get the opportunity to hurt others, specially Amelia and because he and Ralph were tricked into thinking that their plan was even worse, they were said that the drug would in fact kill everybody in the USA, something he was eager to see.

Later he mortally wounds Adam when he attacks him over what he did to his classmates and for mocking the dead of his mother, mocking the rest of the group over it and kills his own ally Ralph without any motive, and reveals that once Pink's plan is fulfilled he will keep Amelia as his Sex Slave as a reward (though this actually was a lie from Pink's part to ensure Ryan's help but Ryan believed it), however Amelia reveals that she was given a gun by Jack and threatens to kill him, apparently sparing him... only to Ryan to try and stab her In the Back and get shot in the head as result.

Ordeaux is gonna take care of his expansion/rewrite.

No to Mip. The entire scenario is way too absurd to take seriously, and even then he only nearly kills three people. The fact that it's treated only slightly more seriously than usual is meant to ram in how ridiculous the scenario is.

As a person who loves Smiling Friends (probably the best adult cartoon I've seen in a while) absolutely, positively FUCK NO to Mip. Yes he's a piece of shit, but it's literally a Hobbit that's the Bjork stalker, and the whole thing is entirly tongue in cheek that's really more darkly humorous than serious. Plus he only plans to kill one person, so he really isn't that heinous.
