Note: This thread was proposed by Berrenta.

Not only is the trope considered starving with only 24 wicks, Shiny Sense is also The Same, but More Specific to Notice This, as a wick check done offsite shows.

Wick check:

Redundant with Notice This (12/24 = 50%):

  1. Arx Fatalis: While not present by default, high enough Intuition skill can sometimes highlight various concealed things of note in the environment, such as pieces of loot and secret switches.
  2. Dauntless: Gatherable plants tend to stand out at a distance due to their colouration, and have a subtle "sheen" effect when you're close to them.
  3. Dragon's Dogma: Notice This: Spots to be gathered from, chests to be opened, and items sitting on the ground to be picked up will all activate your Shiny Sense.
  4. Legend of Grimrock: The various keys you'll find usually shine to make them easier to detect.
  5. Lugaru: Notice This: Weapons will occasionally glint when dropped.
  6. Monster Racers: Star Crystals on the ground have a telltale sparkle.
  7. Neopets: The Darkest Faerie: Items that can be picked up emit a glitter and are brighter than normal.
  8. Serious Sam 3: BFE: Ammo glows yellow, health red, armor blue, weapons green, and key items purple. This was done to compensate the lack of spinning around mid air and sparkling in the previous installments.
  9. Serious Sam: Next Encounter: Ammo glows yellow, health red, armor blue, weapons green, and key items purple.
  10. The Binding of Isaac: The Shiny Rock Trinket makes tinted rocks (rocks which may contain useful items) briefly flash when Isaac enters the room (as well as every 10 seconds afterwards).
  11. Tomb Raider: Legend (re:Notice This): All objects that the grapple can attach to will shine every so often, to differentiate them from the environment.
  12. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines One of the benefits of having high Perception is that it will add highly visible sparkles to objects of interest around you.

No context, misuse, or other issues (4/24 = 17%):

  1. Discworld MUD: Lights, like yellow stone rings. No context
  2. Everything or Nothing: The Bond-Sense mode, which slows time to a crawl and illuminates callout points for Bond moves, and is handy for switching equipment in a pinch (you can normally do it on the fly, but that's in real-time).Slashed with Bullet Time
  3. Final Fantasy Type-0: How most items on the ground are obtained. No context
  4. Lost Souls (MUD): Astral perception. Weblinks Are Not Examples

Unclassifiable (8/24 = 33%):

  1. Notice This: Pothole in list in the description. This is what spurred the TRS effort.
  2. Suspiciously Convenient Index: Index
  3. Video Game Items and Inventory: Index
  4. Pages Needing Wicks: Index
  5. Pages Needing Wiki Magic: Index
  6. Tropes Needing Examples: Index
  7. Shiny Sense: Laconic

Ideas

Only suggestion to fix this is a merge and making Shiny Sense a redirect.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

Paging ~Berrenta to the thread.

I agree with merging with Notice This, but I don't think it would hurt to cut Shiny Sense instead of redirecting, since the inbound count isn't that high (the page was made in 2010, but there have only been 1,133 inbounds since 2012), and since such a redirect probably wouldn't be that useful for aiding search results.

Cut Shiny Sense but move its examples and wicks to Notice This (assuming some aren't already on the latter)

Aka Merge then cut

Notice This:

Shiny Sense should merge with the above. Nuff said.

Yeah, when I mentioned that cutting Shiny Sense is on the table, I did mean we'd be moving non-duplicate examples to Notice This before cutting it.

So if I'm comprehending this correctly, a "Merge" vote is a vote to merge Shiny Sense into Notice This and keep Shiny Sense as a redirect, while a "Cut" vote is a vote to merge Shiny Sense into Notice This and then cut Shiny Sense. Do I have that right?

Hooked a crowner for whether to merge, since I'm not sure if we have enough votes.

To clarify, merge just means moving the examples and wicks (assuming there's no duplication) right? After the moves, Shiny Sense can just be cut due to the low inbounds.

Since we have 32 yeas and no nays, and since this trope isn't thriving, I don't think we have to wait the full three days, so calling in favor of merging with Notice This and cutting the page after the merge.
