Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

My two Andor effortposts.

Who is Kleya? What does she do? Seemingly Luthen's assistant at his antiques shop and hiding in plain sight alongside him, Kleya cleans up his messes and keeps his operations running. Where Luthen has vision, Kleya delivers on practicality; trusted enough that Luthen will leave her in charge of operations and entirely willing to take initiative, Kleya spends a significant amount of her screentime loyally serving Luthen.

Kleya displays plenty of proactiveness in distracting and manipulating Mon Mothma's driver, ensuring he can't collect evidence on Mothma, as well as personally taking to the field to deliver a message for Luthen to Vel Sartha and start the hunt for Cassian. She's also the one who makes harsh calls, like trying to shut down their ties to Ferrix to resist detection by the Empire, even willing to argue with Luthen to his face about the matter and remind him that he's slipping— and if he slips, the Rebellion is done for.

While Luthen ends the season after leaving to hunt Andor, Kleya holds down the antique shop and ensures that the ties to the Rebellion are never caught.

Is Kleya magnificent? For a fairly minor character, absolutely. Kleya is just as competent as Luthen, willing to argue with him and re-assess his plans, sharply throw Mothma's driver (An Imperial spy) off the trail and even enters the field herself to deliver Sartha her mission. Kleya is clearly integral to Luthen's operations, and there's multiple instances where she makes up for his mistakes and keeps operations going even as he struggles— and, of course, it doesn't hurt that Luthen clearly trusts her over anyone else— that respect is earned.

Is she bad? Just as ruthless as Luthen and suggests they cut ties with Ferrix even when its people desperately need help, but is also working to found the Rebellion. Just bad enough, and not as hands-on about it as Luthen.

Conclusion? Yep to Kleya.

Second one.

Who is Cinta Kaz? Joining Andor during the Aldhani heist, Cinta is the most quick-witted member of the crew and the team medic. After her family was murdered by stormtroopers, she struck back against the Empire in any way she could. During the Aldhani heist, Cinta keeps her cool and proves surprisingly ruthless— most notably, putting her blaster to the head of an Imperial governor's young son, taking the governor's wife and child hostage to ensure the heist goes smoothly. Kaz eventually put on a disguise and escaped, having even turned out the facility's lights at the right time.

Kaz is later assigned to— what else— kill Cassian Andor. Kaz infiltrates Ferrix and tracks Imperial movements as well as informing Kleya of the occurrences on Ferrix, particularly Maarva Andor's death. Though she has to deal with a meddlesome ISB agent, she keeps a cool head and, when the mission to kill Andor is disrupted by a massive riot breaking out thanks to Maarva's final speech, Kaz manages to track down the ISB agent and, when accosted, personally shank the motherfucker to death before returning to their girlfriend's room, assuring her that the blood isn't Kaz's own as they prepare to leave.

Is Cinta magnificent? Yeah. She's a smart operative who always keeps a cool head, genuinely loves her girlfriend and, even when she can't accomplish her mission will still cover her tracks, which she does wonderfully by putting down an ISB agent. Her quick thinking is crucial during the Aldhani heist, and Cinta's ruthlessness is matched only by her cleverness. She's not a long-term planner but she gets her job done probably the best of anyone in the entire series.

Is Cinta bad? Look, she puts a gun to a child's head and has no hesitation when assigned to kill Andor. Cinta is cold, but she's also a good guy aiding the Rebels and deeply loves her girlfriend. Cinta is unfettered and not even reluctant to do bad things, but nonetheless is on the heroes' side.

Conclusion? Easy keeper.

Kleya and Cinta both are rock solid Keepers imo, and I'm hyped to cast the proper votes for them when the time comes! Great work on their proposals and thanks for the collab, Riley!

No Sergeant Mosk? I'm disappointed in both you and Ravok. For shame.

Jokes aside, the ones for Andor look good! Now for one of mine!

Who is the Shade?

A professional thief and conman born in the 19th century, the Shade was one day hired by a cult to retrieve the mysterious Black Diamond. While he wasn't able to retrieve the real diamond, he did have a forgery made to sell off to them... only to end up kidnapped and used as a sacrifice for the cult's ritual with the diamond. Fortunately, because the diamond he provided was fake the ritual failed, and the Shade was left with power over shadows and the ability to traverse through the eldritch realm known as the Shadowlands.

Using his powers to amass a horde of riches throughout the centuries, the Shade eventually ended up with Icicle's Injustice Society. However, the real Black Diamond was discovered around this time by an explorer named Bruce Gordon, who ended up possessed by the demon in the rock, Eclipso. Eclipso went on to murder the daughter of JSA hero Dr. Mid-Nite, and the Shade, feeling guilty for not doing anything to stop the demon before, reached out to Mid-Nite and the JSA to help stop the evil being. With his guidance, the JSA killed Gordon to stop Eclipso, but their reactions to this murder split the team, leaving them weak for a devastating attack from Icicle. The Shade, having come to view Icicle as a madman, betrayed the ISA and tried to save Mid-Nite by dragging him into the Shadowlands, only for the hero to end up lost in the darkness instead.

Returning years later after the ISA is disbanded, the Shade arrives in the town of Blue Valley in search of the Black Diamond, to ensure Eclipso is disappeared for good. Unfortunately, the diamond has since been taken by wannabe supervillain Cindy Burman so the demon can be the powerhouse behind her "Injustice Unlimited" team. The Shade tries to play nice with the new JSA, playing coy with his motives for returning but otherwise being polite and upfront about how he means no harm, and handing them all their asses whenever they try to fight him. Gradually, he manages to gain their trust... a bit too late, as Eclipso begins to take over Cindy. Stargirl interrupts his subsequent duel with the demon, shattering the Black Diamond and crippling his powers. Left immaterial in the real world as he's dragged into the Shadowlands, the Shade makes a few sparse appearances in subsequent episodes, occasionally popping up to help Stargirl's mom when Eclipso uses visions to try to trick her into death by hypothermia, before managing to pull himself together enough to instruct the JSA to recreate the Black Diamond to stop the demon.

This... does nothing to incapacitate Eclipso, instead restoring the Shade's powers and allowing him to slip away. For a time. Eclipso immediately confronts the JSA and breaks the diamond once again. Whoops. Left to wallow in misery in the Shadowlands, the Shade is convinced to help Stargirl and the original Mid-Nite—who, to his surprise, is still alive in the eldritch realm—escape the land of nightmares, giving his life as he uses all his remaining power to open a portal.

...Supposedly. In the season finale, when Eclipso merges Earth with the Shadowlands, the Shade suddenly returns to save the new Mid-Nite's parents from being tortured for all eternity by nightmares. The merging of realms boosted his powers so he doesn't need the Black Diamond anymore. When the original Mid-Nite dumbfoundedly asks what was with his earlier Heroic Sacrifice if all opening a portal really did was just weaken him a little, the Shade admits he just thought framing it as a death scene would be funny.

With Eclipso defeated in the ensuing fight, the Shade decides to stick around town a little bit, giving Hourman advice on how to resurrect his new friend Solomon Grundy. Unfortunately, he doesn't stay for long. One of the old members of the ISA, the Gambler, is murdered, and the Shade is a suspect. After getting into a few pissing matches with Starman over this he finds his powers are weakening and leaves Blue Valley to find out why. Long story short, the JSA repaired the Black Diamond earlier with the help of the daughter of Green Lantern, Jade, and their respective powers have begun infecting each other from that contact.

The two instantly hate each other and the Shade kidnaps Pat and Stargirl to serve as mediators. Reluctantly, he agrees to save her brother Obsidian from captivity, since his own shadow powers may be able to sever the connection. The ensuing struggle sees Pat and the Shade sent back to the Shadowlands, where they see each other's deepest fears and regrets but manage to keep each other motivated and moving when they individually begin succumbing to despair. After escaping, the Shade again reluctantly agrees to be a mentor to the siblings and track down other children of the JSA, atoning for his role in their parents' murders.

Ten years later, the Shade is a trusted friend of the JSA, officiating the new Hourman and Mid-Nite's wedding and giving out tours of a museum dedicated to their heroic deeds over the years. During one of these tours, however, he's suddenly confronted by a miraculously resurrected Jay Garrick, who states that Stargirl needs help from her friends—apparently including him now. And so the series closes, with the Shade exasperatedly yet fondly remarking that their adventures will never be over.

Mitigating qualities?

The Shade is charm personified, being always quick-witted and consistently polite (and even when he's not the latter, the wittiness more than makes up for it). Despite being a thief and opportunist, the Shade has morals and will do what he can to stand against greater evils, proving his worth time and time again as an invaluable ally who saves everyone more often than not.

Is he perfect? No, he's occasionally overconfident and doesn't have mastery over his shadow powers, at least when they come to the parts related to the eldritch demon of evil and nightmares and unstoppable horror. But he always manages to bounce back with another ploy or invaluable advice that more than makes up for his mistakes. The above clip is the perfect demonstration—after a tragic "death," he nonchalantly pops back up, admits he just wanted to fuck with Mid-Nite, and strolls outside to go punch a demon in the face.

@selkies Andor; it says so at the top.

Still dunno about Penny, but she is worth the discussion.

Hope you don’t mind me doing one from an older work.

What’s the work?

My Life as a Teenage Robot is an action-comedy Nicktoon created by Rob Renzetti and produced by Frederator Studios. It aired 2 seasons from 2003-2005 and a third from 2008-2009. It follows XJ9 “Jenny” Wakeman, a state-of-the-art robot girl who spends every day trying to live a normal teenage life while having to save the retro-futuristic city of Tremorton, and sometimes the whole world, from various threats.

From season 3’s “Puppet Bride” comes the Demonic Dummy Lil’ Acorn.

Who is Lil’ Acorn?

The episode starts with Jenny’s mother/creator Nora Wakeman going out to find new parts for her bioprocessors, which can animate inanimate objects. But in a dark, ominous alley, she spots a figure following her, recognizes it immediately, and runs home screaming. Jenny, after making a moat outside the house, asks her who she's running from. Nora tells the story: she was just 14, and she liked building very strange machines, but she wanted to enter the talent show, despite having no other talents. She realized she could use her scientific mind to her advantage and retooled her very first defense droid into a living ventriloquist’s dummy, Lil’ Acorn, pretending to throw her voice for the act. They were a hit, but Lil’ Acorn grew prideful and wanted to act on his own, threatening to sing “the song” if Nora didn’t let him. When he did, of course, people booed him for being unnatural, so he struck back by attacking them. He managed to lose the angry mob until his battery ran out in a forestnote , and she hasn’t seen him since.

But Lil’ Acorn, who’s been in the house the whole time, awaits Nora. Damaged and decrepit, he explains that an unassuming kid found and revived him decades after he shut down, and during his time alone he longed for a companion, so he demands Nora make him a bride. But then he sees Jenny and falls head over heels, wishing to make her his bride. They fight, with Lil’ Acorn hitting on Jenny to no avail, until he calls his secret weapons: an army of puppets that he brought to life with Nora’s bioprocessors. After a close fight, the puppets manage to knock Jenny unconscious, then immediately put her in a gown and start the wedding. Lil’ Acorn reveals his other secret weapon: the “wedding ring”, one of the bioprocessors he wrapped into a band, which will give him total control over his new bride. Nora tries to stop him, leading him to bust out his last resort: “the song” in question, The Song That Goes On Forever (a parody of the song from Lamb Chop). Even with the other puppets joining in, Nora is just barely able to switch Lil’ Acorn from “Auto” to “Manual”note .

After waking up, Jenny takes pity on Lil’ Acorn, so Nora thinks of something else to do with him. He wakes up in the same exact woods he was abandoned in and screams Nora’s name... until Tuck’s reanimated sock puppet Lucretia comes up and gives him a kiss. He sincerely thanks Nora, and the two ride into the sunset singing The Song Tha Goes On Forever.

Is he magnificent?

Lil’ Acorn not only leaves a bigger impact than most other villains of the week due to being the focus of the episode he appears in, but he was devious even before turning evil, blackmailing Nora to get a chance at a solo gig. Immediately after being revived, he assembled a bunch of spare puppets, stole Nora’s bioprocessors to use on them, and even stalks her through the alley, either to let her know what he’s become, or to catch her off guard as he supposedly avoids Jenny’s moat system perfectly. He has a backup plan when his main plan is threatened, he recovers well enough from his defeat, and his slapstick antics and Dee Bradley Baker’s performance make him a riot.

You could argue that he’s defeated too easily... and yeah, I get that. He doesn’t even turn around to look at Nora while singing the song. It is established that Nora has to muster up tremendous strength to even get off the ground, though.

How much of a bastard is he?

Pretty standard cartoon villain. His backstory is sympathetic — he did most of the work during the old comedy routines and was tired of Nora taking all the credit, and he resents him being the only puppet without a special someone. But he did attack the theatre just for calling him a freak, and he tries to essentially brainwash Jenny into marrying him after knocking her out cold — the other puppets even hoist her up on strings and nod her head “yes”.

Verdict?

What do you think?

Also, no one else counts in MLAATR. Here’s why.
  • Vexus is hands down the best planner in the show and a delight to watch (thank you, Eartha), but the special “Escape from Cluster Prime” disqualifies her. Her single-minded obsession with taking down Jenny is shown to actively detriment the Cluster, she gets a humiliating defeat by crashing into and comically sliding off of a spaceship after being publicly exposed, and she’s gone straight-up delusional by season 3.
  • Smytus is also a good planner and comes very close to winning more than once, but he’s a pretty pathetic Sore Loser, and his final appearances sees him defeated by petty squabbles with Krackus.
  • The Illusive Mistery, or Misty, does pull off her plan of getting Jenny to help her traumatize the Crust Cousins without a hitch, but then says she did it out loud without even noticing Vice Principal Razinsky. Her final appearance does double down on the bastardry — establishing her as a Punch-Clock Hero who’s fine leaving people to die if she doesn’t get paid — but she doesn’t do anything smart or tactical, which only makes her look like more of a dick.
  • Armageddroid doesn’t even need to be smart because he’s the largest and strongest robot ever built, but he’s also just dumb. He got tricked into going into the Earth’s core, gets tricked into eating a bomb, and gets tricked into destroying himself.
  • Dr. Locust is also just dumb. He gets outsmarted pretty easily, thinks gravity is a manmade invention, and freely admits to being insane.
  • Everyone else is either not actually evil, a VOTW with a humiliating defeat, a VOTW that doesn’t leave enough of an impact, or Krackus.

You say no one else counts in My Life as a Teenage Robot, but is there any potential for Killgore? He proves to be a Not-So-Harmless Villain that outsmarts Jenny twice.

Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.

Killgore’s utterly pathetic. His wins are by sheer accident, and his instinct when confronted with a death trap is to run around screaming.

Well anyways here's a venture bros EP:

What's the work?: The Venture Brothers is a Deconstructive Parody of Jonny Quest, with the main character Doc "Rusty" Venture being a totally fucked up person due to all the traumatizing shit he had to endure as a child adventurer with a Science "Hero" father. Today we will be going over a character who is in some ways the true legacy to Rusty's father, but in other's he definitely isn't.

Who's the Candidate?: Rusty has been having nightmares for most of season 1. They often involve him eating his twin in the womb. Things come to a head after Rocky Horror Picture showing where Brock (his bodygaurd) evidently hurt a lot of innocent in a Blind Rage. Rusty is convinced it's nothing, but Brock takes him to the hospital in the family jetwing known as the x-1.

While there the doctors remove the cause of the problem, a tumor. However they somehow misplace it. Meanwhile just off-screen, the x-1 takes off...

When they get back to the compound, Brock notices the X-1 is already in the hanger but before he can warn Rusty, he is knocked out and comes to chained to his car. Meanwhile Rusty awakens from a dream where his father warns him of another venture and is surprised to see a man who looks like his father in a robot suit cobbled together from Rusty's robot and his oven. The man reveals he's the tumor and the brother Rusty absorbed in the womb and he's come for revenge.

Rusty uses his emergency escape hatch on his bed to flee to his panic room, but the man just breaks in using the code. Rusty then flees again to his workshop bluffing with a gun. The man just laughs and points another gun at Rusty. Rusty thinks this is a bluff, saying he never got it to work, but the man states that he did. Just as he's about to shoot Rusty, Brock using the family robot burst in and run the man over. It's revealed he's diminuitive and Rusty orders Brock to spare him. Coming to an understanding the man names himself Jonas Venture Jr. or JJ and proceeds to negotiate with Rusty on what he owes him.

Post this episode he makes a Heel–Face Turn and becomes one of the most heroic characters on the show and ends with a totally badass Heroic Sacrifice in Season 6.

Charming? Good Planner? He's clearly burning with rage at the life he feels has been stolen from him but it's mostly Tranquil Fury and it's quite entertaining to see him with a cyborg body. As for cunning in spite of living inside Rusty for most of his life, he knows how to: fly a plane, build a cyborg body, crack Rusty's panic room, activate a dormant gun. He ends his episode with some dignity and then makes a Heel–Face Turn going on to found billion dollar company.

Bastard? Too Much? He does try to kill Rusty and his bodyguard Brock. The thing is Rusty is textbook Nominal Hero getting up to some absolutely horrifying things, and brock is Unscrupulous Hero bodyguard. But at the same time his motive isn't really altruistic. He just wants revenge for something Rusty has no idea of. As mentioned he makes a Heel–Face Turn and then proceeds to be the most heroic character in the show.

Mitigating Factors? While he chains up Brock, Brock still manages to stop him, but it took major difficulty on Brock's part. He had to guide a robot how to drive a car and evidently the robot didn't do a very good job. After he makes a Heel–Face Turn he does suffer a few defeats and indignities here and there, but mostly he's used to showcase how much more a success he is then Rusty. For instance the monarch fools him, but that backfires more and Rusty than it does Jonas and Jonas continues to be a huge success, while Rusty just continues to be annoyed by the Monarch. Finally he does make a deal with the investors, when it backfires leading to his station having a core meltdown, he goes a on a Heroic Sacrifice with already approved MB Treister, piloting the core to a safe distance where no one else is hurt.

One final thing, doesn't have any bearing on him keeping or not, but he stated in his first episode that he's the true legacy of Jonas Venture. As Lore showed in his excellent EP, Jonas is one of the only CMs in the venture universe, whereas JJ is the most heroic character in the show. It seems he got to be a great scientist like his father by not being raised by him.

Verdict? Leaning [tup]

I'll vote later officially tomorrow, but my main issue with Jonas Jr is still the bastard part. He spent decades in a self aware state of utter terror trapped inside Rusty's body. I can understand being in a mental state where he'd want to kill someone who in his mind purposefully tried to kill and torment him. His attacks on Brock were don't seem to have lethal intent, merely to knock him out and get him out of the way.

After Jonas is pacified and comes to his senses, he becomes one of the most moral and good hearted characters in the entire show. Since he doesn't try to kill anyone other than Rusty while in a horrible mental state and is truly good for the rest of show, I'm truly not sure if he punches above the bastard line. Give me until tomorrow to make a final decision, but I'll probably link some videos to help with a consensus.

Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.

He's still trying to kill a man who had no idea he existed. In my mind it's just enough over the line.

I'm thinking the bastard part is just enough there, myself.

Tonight I dine on monkey soup.

Jonas Jr seems to hit the bastard part enough to be considered

Out of curiosity, were there any characters from holiday specials that anyone wanted to tackle? Like say characters from Christmas specials? Just asking this out of curiosity.

[up] Well, I was planning on getting to a candidate from a CGI direct-to-DVD Rudolph film of all things, but I figured I'd get Craig outta the way first.
