Old Complete Monster cleanup thread

Welcome to the Complete Monster proposal thread! This is the thread where new Complete Monster examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential redeeming qualities will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the CM subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite CM" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for CM equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, the crimes they commit, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some villains, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

Any redeeming qualities? Freudian Excuse?

This is where any potential redeeming characteristics or tragic backstory should be discussed. Do they have a tragic past? Do they show that Even Evil Has Standards or Even Evil Has Loved Ones? Maybe a Pet the Dog moment or two? This is where these should be discussed in full. Not every potential redeeming moment is a clear-cut disqualifier, but we should hear of any potential issues to ensure the character is discussed in full.

Are they bad enough?

A Complete Monster has to be particularly vile by the standard of the work they appear in. Therefore, you should look at what the character does compared to similar characters in the same work. This takes into account things like:

  • Their resource level (a human Serial Killer can't stand up to an alien Omnicidal Maniac, but they can be bad by the standard of other human serial killers)
  • The amount of time they have to work with (such as a one-shot character versus long-running antagonists)
  • The quantity vs. quality of their crimes compared to others (someone with a lower victim count but far more visceral and personal crimes could be considered as equally bad overall as someone with a higher body count but less horror involved)

Essentially, this section is an analysis of the kinds of villainy shown in the work and an explanation of why this particular character's villainy stands out within it.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This thread tackles very serious and dark matters on a daily basis. We will be discussing things like murder, rape, torture, human trafficking, crimes against children, and in particularly dark cases, several of these issues at the same time. We keep a lighthearted air, but all candidates carry the general assumption that these are awful individuals committing disgusting crimes. We ask that if you participate, you do so with the requisite seriousness such dark topics require; exclamations of how gross something is, whether serious or sarcastic, are disrespectful to the topics at hand, and if you cannot handle such topics, please do not participate.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

  • The Breach: The Elder God is an alien entity whose angelic appearance masks an utterly reprehensible monster. Coming in contact with the Hermes through the SW-Jump, the Elder God infects the entire crew with the Yellow, driving them to self-mutilation, murder and worship of the Elder God. Once members of his cult have proven their fanaticism, the Elder God mutates their body by having his progeny possess the cultists. Not satisfied with just the ship, the Elder God plans on spreading the Yellow to Earth and have his children assimilate all of humanity.

So, The Saint is the gift that keeps on giving. I've still got loads of characters who could possibly qualify from the series—possibly one more from the Charteris stories, some characters from the radio dramas/adaptations, one or two more from the Simon Dutton TV movies, and a few more from the various comic books the Saint was in through the 30s–50s.

I'll start with the Saint's four-issue run in Silver Streak Comics, a Golden Age comic that ran during the 40s. And since this is a Golden Ager, what better villains for the Saint to fight than the Nazis?

I'll start with his foe in Silver Streak Comics #19, who was none other than Henrich Himmler himself.

What has Heinrich Himmler done?

  • Head of the SS and one of Hitler's closest confidants, Himmler is introduced in the pages of #19 leading the brutal Nazi occupation of Slovenia. Angered by Slovenian resistance, Himmler orders twenty innocent prisoners executed for every Nazi soldier killed, which results in dozens and dozens of men, women and children gunned down and hanged by his sadistic soldiers.
  • Fuming over the Saint helping the Slovenian resistance effort, Himmler tries to bait him and his gang out by threatening the execution of war hero and aviator Feodor Krilitz, whom Himmler has in one of his camps. The Saint rescues Feodor and continues to sabotage Nazi efforts, so Himmler steps it up a bit: he orders the Slovenian president sent to the concentration camp in Dachau. When Himmler captures Patricia Holm, he orders her sent to Dachau as well, where she and the President are tortured.
  • Unluckily for Himmler, the Saint organizes a "Saintly party" at Dachau, busting out the President, Pat, and dozens of camp inmates. Himmler is last seen throwing a hissy fit.
Any mitigating factors?
  • Not many of these to expect from the head of the SS.
Heinous standard?
  • Over and above it by virtue of being…well, Himmler, and all of his war crimes fully on display here. There's one other exceptionally evil Nazi I'll do from the Saint's very brief run in Silver Streak, but otherwise Himmler was the worst he fought here.

Yes to Mr. Himmler

Next up from Escape The Night, season 3

Who is The Killer Clown Leader? What Does She Do?

  • The first of The Carnival Master’s guardians, she is The Leader is of a group of Serial Killing Clowns who have been terrorizing the town of Evermore for years, and is easily the worst of the group of Guardians.
  • When Joey and his group of 9 YouTubers friends arrive in Evermore during the carnival, She immediately kicks off a slaughter of nearly a dozen citizens in Evermore, starting with Mortimer’s Mother and The Mayor Janet, before she proceeds to kidnap Joey and his group, all the while giddy over The Carnival Master’s intended release:
The Carnival Master will be released on sunrise, AND THIS WHOLE DAMN TOWN IS GONNA BURN!
  • Tying them all up to a carousel, The Clown Leader giddily informs her plans to stop them from destroying the Carnival Master by disemboweling them all one by one, starting with Nikita. However, Mortimer manages to shoot at her and they all disperse as he and Calliope free the YouTubers.
  • When JC and Teala are made to go in the first challenge to cleanse the first of the corrupted artifacts, they are both tied up as Matt, who is helping JC, and Safiya, who is helping Teala, do the challenge. After Safiya wins the challenge and cleanses the artifact, thus eliminating all the killer clowns, The Leader spends her last moment stabbing and gutting JC while laughing sadistically.
We have a winner! And better yet! A LOSER!

Mitigating Factors?

Absolutely nothing. Unlike the other guardians who were regular people before being turned into monsters by The Carnival Master, The Leader and the clown killers were already evil people before becoming The Carnival Master”s guardians, and The Leader is nothing more than a deranged sadist.

Heinous Standard?

One of the few fully non powered human villains in the franchise, with only a group of clowns at her disposal and proves to be the most sadistic villain yet. She kickstarts a murder spree within Evermore (something she done before) and planned on gutting all 10 of the group members to death, one by one, to ensure the Carnival Master is released, gleefully declaring the town will burn, and brutally murders JC herself in her last moments.

Verdict?

Hey there, you know I’m surprised that this Spider-Man villain doesn’t have a lot of official CM iterations like Venom Carnage and Norman Osborn do, especially since he’s one of spider man’s most dangerous archenemies.

The only possible places to find such a version is in a Fan Work much like with Bowser And Eggman.

However I’ve managed to find three that have a really good shot of getting approved this first one comes from a famous work way back in 2004. A blast from the early internet past.

What’s the Work?

Justice League: The Spider and its sequel Web of Cadmusare crossover fanfiction of Ultimate Marvel and DC Animated Universe, and the most famous and notable work by Agent-G that takes place after the second season of Justice League. It involves the Peter Parker Spider-Man from the Ultimate Marvel universe coming to the DCAU after his friends and family were killed by the Green Goblin and becoming a member of the justice league even forming a relationship with Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. (One of my personal favorite crossover couples)

Unfortunately things take a dark turn when it’s revealed that one of spideys deadliest villains in his rogues gallery has followed him to the same world and who exactly follows him but none other than my favorite metal armed maniac.

Who is Doctor Octopus What has he done?

Having followed Peter into this new world Otto learns about the news of the green goblin killing him pissed that it wasn’t him begins his inevitable revenge on the wall crawler.

Building a machine called the triskellion. He tests it on a newspaper stand then kills a scientist named Steven with one of his tentacles when he outlives his usefulness.

Later after researching this new reality Doc Ock forms a Villain Team-Up with Lex Luthor telling him that with Lex becoming president Ock could get a pardon.

Octavius hears about a ray gun Luthor invented that can take away a hero’s powers but comes up with a different idea that involves hiring thieves to steal parts of the device one of them being a guy named James Blanc who worked for Lex previously.

Otto has James try on a helmet and backpack that will allow him to control the spider arms and shield his mind dubbing him the cyber spider.

Having successfully gotten one of his parts ock and luthor decide to bring back the justice lords and form an alliance with them as well.

After that Ock is shown to have invaded Peter and Kara’s apartment with Kara about to beat Ock until he pulls out a piece of kryptonite and kidnaps her planning to use her as bait for Peter while the justice league are busy with their doppelgängers.

After the justice lords are defeated peter gets back to his and Kara’s apartment only to find a video of ock demanding that he meet him at the Brooklyn bridge or else he will kill her.

Once Peter reaches the Brooklyn bridge Ock rants about how he deserves to win for once.

Spider-Man: you know I’m so SICK of you! I just don’t get it I didn’t even know you were here!
Doctor Octopus : Oh I thought about just keeping low, but you would never let me rest. Those two that made the machine that brought us here they would have told the world and then you would be right on me, Besides after all these years after all this time I deserve the right to finish you off! How many times have you gotten in my way? How many times did SHIELD capture me and put me into those dark cold cells? All because of you!
Spider-Man: Well maybe if you didn't try and keep killing people and committing crimes then none of this would have happened!
Otto then proceeds to just throw Kara off the bridge in her weak state and taunt Peter about all the loved ones he failed to save causing Peter to snap and deliver a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on Otto.

Surprisingly, Donna arrives and its revealed that Supergirl survived the fall Donna then rips up each of Ocks arms and beat him with Ock stroking one of his limbs saying this wasn’t supposed to happen.

Octavius returns in the sequel Web of Cadmus working alongside Amanda Waller and dr Hamilton on the cloning process creating Kaine.

Octavius later looks at one of the clones which attempts to escape until Octavius subdues it.

Amanda orders Ock to deal with Superboy Who has gone rogue Octavius persuades her to let him reason with the boy.

Superboy walks into Ocks lab to ask about how we can get with Kara unaware that Octavius manipulates him to force Kara to see the truth.

Superboy reluctant at first agrees to Otto’s Request but as soon as he leaves the lab Otto shoots him with a vial.

Amanda Waller eventually catches on to Otto doing stuff behind her back then Otto remakes his arms from the gaurds guns and ties up Waller.

Octavius confronts Galatia Kaine and Superboy using a trick up his sleeve revealing that he programmed Kaine and the other clones to carry out his orders with a code phrase and Carry Galactia to her cell before breaking out.

Octavius try’s to get Waller to spill the password but to no Avail.

Doc Ocks plans eventually go wrong Amanda taunts her about it leaving Otto to straight up murder her.

Doc Ock encounters Lex having gotten his political career with both still at large.

Sadly, this is the last installment for the series, as the author has not made a sequel to this leaving the series open ended.

Freudian Excuse or redeeming qualities?

Ok For one thing there’s a moment where he snaps when is tentacles get cut off by Donna and coddles with one of them and talking about avenging them calling them his friends given that there sentient ai like in the second Sam rami spider man film. But he forgets all about them and gets over in the sequel once he gets new arms showing he dropped any care for them in fact, he never really cared about them to begin with.

Second he doesn’t go under any character development of being proud of creating something like Spider-Man and has no desire to stop villainy since the green goblin is already dead before the story starts

keep in mind, this was written years before his desire to stop villainy happened.

And finally his relationships with Lex, Amanda the clones he created along with everyone else are strictly professional no care for any of them whatsoever.

Heinousness?

He’s plenty bad with him having all his canon crimes from the comics up to using the scientists to build the portal machine to find allies from other worlds uses the justice lords to combat the Leauge as a distraction

Allying himself with Lex Luthor hired criminals to steal parts for his inventions

Kidnaps Kara planning to rid spider man of any friends and family to bring them at his lowest point and then kill him, even bruising Kara a bit then throw her into the water in her weakened state.

In the sequel he creates Kaine kills Amanda Waller, when she has no further use of them should super boy with a viral to brainwash him

Highjacks control of the clones with a code phrase. And so on

Final Verdict?

A 👍to my first Crossover candidate but what about you guys?

  • Carnitrix by hanibal38426: The Galvan who took the name "Azmuth", either by casuality or by taking the identity of the real Azmuth, is a hateful genius who believes that only his species has the right to exist, deciding to create the Carnitrix, a device that enslaves its wearer to turn them into mutated versions of alien species to exterminate all other lifeforms. When his laboratory is raided by the heroic Vilgax and Tetrax, "Azmuth" sends the Carnitrix to Earth before dying. When the Carnitrix crashes in Earth and bonds with Ben Tennyson, the machine turns the kid into different murderous monsters that slaughter thousands across the United States, starting with his own family. When the American army manages to corner Ben, the Carnitrix turns Ben into Alien X, which is revealed to have Azmuth's consciousness before destroying the universe and continuing its massacre across other timelines until his defeat by other Ben Tennysons. Even after Ben is freed from the Carntrix and his universe is rebuild, Azmuth's consciousness manages to survive inside his mind, harassing him with the memories of the atrocities.

When it comes to the comparisons let me do a quick roundabout explanations

     Big Bad’s

  • The Cursed God itself (second to last candidate), an Ancient Evil who’s been fighting against the Society Against Evil. He’s responsible for giving power to the Sorceress in order to leave a trail of death and almost devoured all the souls in Evermore. It appeared back in the fourth season it murdered the Cave Woman and curropted the Caveman. Overall responsible for all the events of the story.

  • Arthur The Butler: Con Man who killed his wife, something he done many times before, kidnapped and imprisoned his brother, helped and influenced several people into murdering for him, manipulated the Evil In The House to trap the souls of 4 of the previous residents, orchestrated the deaths of 8 of the YouTubers and tried to brainwash the remaining three into becoming slaves.

  • The Sorceress:, powerful sorceress (in the name) who trapped her goodness into a glass case to be tortured through her powers, possessed Joey to lure 9 YouTubers to the mansion and orchestrates the death of 8 of them so she can get access to the crown of oblivion so she take over the world with her army, and personally stabs Joey to death. Comes back in season 4 trying to take over the museum.

  • The Carnival Master: Manipulated countless people in Evermore, pleading into their diseires and turning 5 of them into horrific monsters to gaurd his cursed artifacts. One of them being his own daughter, who he pushed into killing her boyfriend before curropting her into a sexual sadist. He also makes a deal with an elderly doll owner and gives him a curse doll, which leads to him being stabbed to death. He attempts to curse the entire town in order to sacrifice all their souls to the Cursed God and personally killed three Society Against Evil members and killed both Calliope and Mortimer as he sicks zombies to kill Joey, Nikita and Matt. Unlike the Sorceress, he doesn’t get much powers besides raising the dead and making deals with civilians, and has the highest attempted body count in the story.

  • The Collector: Time Controller who kidnaps many people across centuries for her museum and places them in her exhibits: With The Mummy, Genie and Merlin suffering nasty fates enslaved within the exhibits. • The Ice Witch: A powerful witch who taken over another dimension, having caused death and suffering to the people and froze a person in ice: She suffers Offscreen Villainy due to nothing shown about her crimes committed and us a Generic Doomsday Villain as she shows no character due to lack of dialogue and scenes.

  • Cedric: A scientist who is obsessed with bringing life to his automaton bride and forces one of the YouTubers to sacrifice themselves (this one being Hannah) to use their heart to power her; Heinous standard issues, It’s clear he loves his automaton Bride, who is implied to have been his dead wife, and he’s portrayed sweetly as he brings her to life and gives them the stone they wanted as payment.

  • Several werewolves who attempt to eat Joey, Alex, Tyler and Andrea, and end up eating Allison: Nothing there.

  • Devourer: A demonic monster who goes after the remaining four at one last attempt to kill them: Basically a Generic Doomsday Villain

  • Killer Clown Leader (candidate) : Human woman who leads a gang of killer clowns terrorizing the city of Evermore. Kickstarts a slaughter of many civilians starting with Mortimer’s mom, wanted to make sure The Carnival Master was freed and destroy the town, showing enjoyment over the thought, attempted to disembowel all 10 YouTubers one by one and later sadistically guts JC. Overall, manages to be the most sadistic characters (besides Calvin) and has sheer brutality.

  • Snake Woman: A woman who was beaten down for being the other woman in an affair and turned into a snake woman by The Carnival Master, and tried to kill her two attackers and poisoned Roi, later killing him again during the challenge: Not really heinous and is portrayed sympathetically and being a victim of Carnival Master

  • The Black Knight: From the fairy tale, he plundered Camelot and killed King Arthur and protects the sword in the stone, trying to kill anyone who goes near it. When Tana ans Gabbie attempt to compete, The Black Knight kills them both: Has only 3 kills and his plundering of Camelot is offscreen

  • The Gorgon: Medusa Like snake woman who turned several people to stone, including Mortimer and attempts to the same to the others: Is a complete Tragic Villain as she was a SOE member who was forcibly turned into a mosnter.

  • Scheherazade: A woman who traps the genie in the lamp to sell him to the Collector and later kills Sinbad before attempting to kill Bretman. Fails the heinous standard.
