Finally cut the "male soldiers have to carry extra packs because women in the army can't carry their own" bit (paraphrased) from Stay in the Kitchen, as mentioned way back here.

They can always cite a source if they want to reinstate, but it seemed to have an agenda.

I think it can still go under Fan-Preferred Cut Content as long as it was considered at some point. That's just semantics and at most means the example should be re-worded.

The point is there's no source or proof that it was actually considered at some point. From what I know it's just a fan theory to "explain" bad writing decisions.

From Live-Action Films (again)

When searching for the Sith wayfinder on Kef Bir, Rey happens to wind up standing in the exact spot where she needs to be in order to fit the dagger into the outline of the Death Star II's wreckage (which somehow has not shifted, collapsed, and/or been scavenged in the decades since Return of the Jedi. Amazing how it just lines up to the wreckage.

This would involve a "fact check" in a different sense than usual. Could a metal structure of such size erode or be scavenged enough to affect its silhouette that much?

I think this claim on Banned in China is false

First of all, one of the most popular anime in the Middle East, Mama Is a Fourth Grader, features a female protagonist. I know that Puni Puni Poemy was banned in New Zealand, but there's no proof of it being banned in Saudi Arabia. Same with Sugar Sugar Rune. It has a page on the Arabic wikipedia. What's more, this claim was also posted to CBR, presumably taken from that page. There is also no evidence that CCS sold poorly among Korean Christians.

i'd like sources on this entry for AudienceAlienatingEra.Video Games if possible:

  • Pokémon
    • Ever since 2016, the franchise has had annual holiday releases with non-negotiable deadlines, all the while Gamefreak has been understaffed and working with mostly inexperienced developers that were fresh out of college. The result has been increasingly unfinished and bare-bones releases, with long-time fans increasingly dissatisfied. The jump to home consoles only exacerbated the issue, as home console titles typically have higher production values and thus fetch a higher price tag than handheld ones, but the Switch Pokemon games are all $60 despite looking not much better than their 3DS counterparts. While recent Pokemon games have sold very well in terms of raw numbers, being some of the best selling games on Switch, the percentage of Switch owners who buy each Pokemon game is drastically lower than the 3DS titles. The best-selling Pokemon game on Switch, Pokémon Sword and Shield, is owned by just 20% of the people who bought a Switch, where as the first three Pokemon games on 3DS are all owned by over 75% of 3DS owners, and even the worst selling Pokemon game on the console is owned by almost half of 3DS owners.

this first issue is something i generally understand is a talking point, but it's the percentages claim that interests me if there's a source available for it. checking the actual numbers on wikipedia, 20% for sword/shield is correct (25.92m game owners to 129.53m switch owners), but the number of 3DS owners who own X/Y is nowhere near 75% (16.68m game owners to 75.94m 3DS owners). that's closer to 22%. is there a better source for this i'm missing? and the point about gamefreak being understaffed with college graduates could probably use a source too?

The bolded subbullet was just added under the Bacon Room's Big-Lipped Alligator Moment entry on YMMV.Pizza Tower:

  • The Bacon Room, a surprisingly spooky bacon-themed hidden room in The Pig City. The music switches to Meatophobia, the implications of a bacon room in Pig City begin to settle in, and there's a barely visible outline of a much more realistic-looking pig in the background... and then it gives you a thumbs up and goes away. The encounter isn't referenced anywhere else.
    • Except this is the reason why Peppino gets arrested right after visiting the room. A bacon room in the middle of a city inhabited by pigs? The Pig City police assumes he is a serial killer who eats his victims.

I removed it due to it being natter, but is it relating to speculation or a fact confirmed in the game or by Word of God?

After browsing the AwesomeMusic.OtherMedia page, I brought this up in the Examples Are Not Recent cleanup thread ("A few years ago" should be replaced with the year in which the event happened), but then I was directed here because, as it turns out, it seems like a misrepresentative version of the Rhys Jones murder. There are also details in the Merseyside derby article about the Champions League match played afterwards, but nothing like what's being described here.

  • "You'll Never Walk Alone" was central to a seminal Heartwarming Moment and Moment of Awesome. Liverpool and Everton FC have been long time rivals. A few years ago, a 13 year old was murdered by an Everton fan because he was wearing a Liverpool shirt. That weekend Liverpool played Everton in the Premier League. A one minute silence was called in memory of the boy. A few Liverpool fans started singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" and the Everton fans joined in.

The example as is reads like a classic case of glurge, specifically of the "fabricating and distorting facts" variety. Of course, if anyone can substantiate the event described, I would appreciate it.

[up][up][up]Your numbers point out that it's not even an example: The Switch Pokemon games have a bigger audience than the 3DS games. Those numbers are backed up by Nintendo's own performance charts. Besides that, the main reason the Switch has a larger share of non-Pokemon players is more likely due to the platform having a wider variety of system sellers, with everything that would have been a system seller for previous handhelds and consoles.

That, or they're combining the numbers for multiple 3DS games, which is the worst abuse of statistics I've seen on this site.

[up] some number, "Many anime featuring a girl as a protagonist" is not how examples work anyway, so that should be removed. Any particular anime that have been banned for that reason can be listed on their own. Additionally, Banned in China means banned, not "not localized".

Seeing as no one has been able to supply missing details to the events described at [up][up][up][up], I can safely assume that it's unsubstantiated glurge. Cutting and citing this thread (as well as the EANR cleanup thread) in the edit reason.

On WhatCouldHaveBeen.Hilda:

  • Allegedly, Nickelodeon's pitch for an adaptation involved the series taking place in New York with Hilda being aged up to be in high school and having smartphones be prominent. Pearson reportedly hated the idea.

Are there any sources to back this up, because honestly, I can't find any real sources for this claim and it sounds a bit too outlandish to be properly true, given how drastically far removed it is from the source material (that's not to say it's fake, dumber things have happened, but I have my doubts on the validity of this, even the example is using words like "allegedly", making it effectively gossip).

This is in the description of Jackie Chan Adventures:

The show is one of the few cartoons that were animated (partially) at 30 FPS in the transition period from 24 FPS cel animation shot on film to modern 24 FPS digital animation.

This was added in 2017 by jackiechanadv who has no other edits, with the edit reason "30 fps. I believe this, along with two really crappy French/Canadian cartoons, are the only cartoons animated at 30fps." I can't find anything supporting this.

In DCEU: Other Superheroes it is treated as fact that Jay Garrick is from the world of The Adventures of Superman. Has that ever been confirmed? While he appears right after that Superman does, a whole mish-mash of worlds was happening at that point, so I think it might be too much conjecture to claim he is in fact from that world, unless we have official confirmation from Word of God or something.

Replacement Scrappy Anime.

  • In Digimon Adventure 02, Daisuke Motomiya, or Davis, is pretty much a shameless expy of Taichi (Tai) Yagami/Kamiya from its predecessor except noticeably dumber and possessing an unrequited crush on Hikari that he is very annoying about. Davis' example gets very strange in the English dub. The head writer openly admitted to hating him, so gave him deliberately awful lines. But in the show itself, Daisuke was the only person willing to forgive fan-favorite Ken after the whole Digimon Kaiser thing, causing his popularity to skyrocket. It caused a Broken Base between fans who thought this redeemed his character, and fans who still hated him.

Jeff Nimoy does not hate Davis this is a lie.

Cicadian Rhythm claims that there is a knowledge gap over cicadas between Asia and the West, and that most Europeans would be baffled at them because they are not as common there, with many only learning about them because of Anime and video games.

While it is true Europe doesn't have many species of cicadas, they still are worldwide insects that live in every continent but Antarctica and get featured in many cultures and media around the world, and definetely not exclusive to Anime. From what I've seen, they aren't nearly as rare in Europe as the description implies. I also think that the trope is strangely focused to Asia, especially Japan; at least here in Brazil, cicadas are a staple of summer and are heard everywhere.

[up] The description also claims:

There is more of a knowledge gap than a cultural gap between Asian and western countries. Even though they are quite common in much of the Americas, most North Americans mistake the sound of the common summer cicada for crickets, even though their calls sound nothing like each other.

And I really don't think that's true? My experience is anecdotal, I know, but where I live everyone knows that when the trees start screaming at you, it's cicada season. I have never heard anyone call them crickets.

It's a regional thing, yes, but I feel like the trope description is exaggerating just how deep the knowledge gap goes. There's a pretty big difference between saying they're better-known in Asian countries.... and saying they're so completely unknown that Europeans would simply be baffled by their existence, and North Americans wouldn't recognize them and somehow mistake them for a very different-sounding bug. It's not necessarily entirely false, but it comes across as really hyperbolic.

From a British perspective - there are no cicadas locally and people generally know they exist, but not what they sound like. You won't hear them much, if at all, in media.

Most British people do seem to assume they sound like crickets. Until they encounter them.
