YMMV.The Vampire Diaries is a mess

  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • Damon and Elena. By a lot. If you go by fanfiction.net results alone, it's a ratio of about 9.5 to 1. Although as of season four onwards and especially season five, their popularity has dwindled somewhat due to the relationship becoming stale.
    • Stefan and Katherine (although this is mainly the Damon/Elena shippers wanting to get Stefan out of the way).
    • Stefan and Caroline thanks to their Ship Tease in early seasons, although there's a healthy fandom for their platonic friendship. When they actually get together in later seasons, their relationship becomes...controversial with fans, to say the least.
    • Stefan and Klaus was very popular amongst the fandom during season three. Some fans actually wanted Stefan to leave Mystic Falls and be with Klaus in New Orleans. Though by the end of the season, it was quickly overshadowed by Klaus/Caroline..
    • Klaus/Caroline is still the most popular Caroline ship.
    • Anna/Jeremy is still more popular than Bonnie/Jeremy despite the fact that Anna is dead. It was so popular it got revisited in Season 3.
    • As of season six, Damon/Bonnie (a.k.a. Bamon) has become a fan favorite amongst the audience and a very popular ship. There are many fans and viewers wishing that Damon and Bonnie will become romantically involved. Hell, even some Delena fans have jumped ship and are hopping on the Bamon ship. Quite a few notice that there is strong and undeniable chemistry between Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham (probably because Ian and Kat are extremely close offscreen) as well as between their characters. Numerous fans are coming out and openly shipping Bamon and even the media seems to be crazy about the potential couple or pairing.

Can someone weight in? From what I know, Damon/Elena might keep since the show was originally leaning toward Stefan/Elena.

We actually decided to cut Damon/Elena is was a love triangle from the start, one Damon won. That said we kept it for the books because Elena stayed with Stefan there, so maybe just move it to a books section there. That said we could rediscuss it. Klaus and Caroline keep, she ends up with Stefan and it's the most popular ship from the franchise. Damon/Bonnie keep but only for Bonnie as it's more popular then her endgame ship. Jeremy is a weird one where he doesn't actually have an endgame ship so they are all canon equelly. Everything else is not as popular as something else, be it canon or non-canon.

Here is what we have on the Live-Action TV page:

  • The Vampire Diaries Universe:
    • The Vampire Diaries:
      • Due to the Ship Tease between Klaus and Caroline in seasons three and four, the pairing quickly became the most popular ship in the fandom. However, due to Klaus getting his own spin-off, Caroline instead ended up with Stefan. Despite this, most fans prefer to pair her with Klaus, and the pairing remains the most written about ship from the franchise in terms of fanfiction.
      • The show ends with Bonnie in a relationship with Enzo, however most fans prefer to pair her with enemy turned best friend Damon. This is mainly due to the chemistry between their actors, who were best friends in real life, and the fact that their friendship is one of the few things fans generally love about the later seasons.
    • Legacies:
      • Hope and Josie both had a crush on each other when they were younger, and this, as well as the Les Yay between them, led to the ship becoming extremely popular. It's arguably the most popular ship in the show's fandom. The pairing dominates most fanfiction sites and is easily more popular than Hope/Landon or any of Josie's ships. This is not helped by the two's actresses, Danielle Rose Russell and Kaylee Bryant, encouraging shippers and saying that they would love for the ship to become canon.
      • Despite Lizzie having a couple of canon love interests, such as Sebastian and Ethan, most fans prefer to ship her with Hope. This is due to her and Hope's rivalry coming off more like Belligerent Sexual Tension than the creators intended and the fact that Lizzie is the first person to remember Hope in season two, leading to the two developing a close friendship.

And here is the one for the books.

  • The Vampire Diaries: Damon and Elena have always been a fan-favorite, despite her staying with Stefan throughout the books. This continued into the TV show, where the producers pretty much switched the endgame to Damon/Elena instead of Stefan/Elena due to the popularity of the relationship and how the flash-forward in the series finale reveals that they stayed together until they died.

Though I admit that the book one could probably use a rewrite.

Okay from Live-Action TV:

  • Law and Order:
    • Bobby Goren and Alex Eames of Law & Order: Criminal Intent blur the lines between this and Official Couple. While nothing romantic was implied to have happened between them, it is made explicitly clear that there is nothing they would not do for each other. That line, however, was most likely crossed when Alex quit her job after having to fire Goren, leaving certain "possibilities" wide open.
    • Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a heterosexual pairing, with Alex Cabot and Olivia Benson for slash fans.
      • In the later seasons, shipping Benson with ADA Barba seems to be more popular than shipping her with her canon love interest Cassidy. Given the near-constant lingering gazes, gentle touches, blatant concern for each other, late-night drinks, and sizzling chemistry — and the fact that actors Raul Esparza and Mariska Hargitay also ship the two characters together — this is not surprising.
      • For slash shippers, Barba/Carisi has become an increasingly prevalent one as Carisi as a character became more popular.

For the former it just seems creator preferred. For Benson what is her most popular? Because they all three seem to be more popular than her mentioned canon one. Does the final one have canon competition?

Stabler and Benson is INCREDIBLY popular to the point that memory serves, it's on the verge of becoming canon. With Goren and Eames, seemed to be a Will They or Won't They? type deal. Can't really speak to the others.

Also The music folder on Fan-Preferred Couple:

  • Vocaloid:
    • Although everything, including pairings, is purely fanon, the most popular heterosexual ships seem to be Gakupo×Luka, Kaito×Miku, and Len×Rin. Though Kaito×Meiko and Gakupo×Gumi do give them a run for their money. Sounds like there is no canon one.
    • Miku×Luka is the most popular homosexual pairing, having had albums full of songs about their love. Yaoi fans, however, tend to gravitate towards Kaito×Gakupo. It probably helps that they're the only two out of the most popular ones who are male and over the physical age of 16. See my above point.
  • In the album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by band Neutral Milk Hotel the narrator often alludes to Anne Frank. Fan interpretations include the pairing of Jeff Mangum, the writer and singer of the album, with Anne Frank and the belief that Jeff actually is in love with her. The lyrics, many of them sexual in nature, seem to be the main reason people come to this conclusion. Sounds like real life people shipping, which is not allowed here.
  • The two main characters played by Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris from "Outside" music video are prominently shipped together because their other major collaboration "I Need Your Love" featured the two characters (also played by them) as an adorable couple as well as Goulding and Harris's real life friendship.Do they have love interests in the song?
  • From the famous children's group The Wiggles, Emma and Lachy take this Up To Eleven. They hid their relationship for two years, but in those days, even the children started to see something spark between them. Now they are engaged and married.Firstly, they are together and secondly, real life again?

So the whole thing needs to be cut.

So I'm bringing the League of Legends here.

The issue with a lot of these. Is that Riot actually has most of these as either canon couples (Katarina/Garen, Leblanc/Swain, Ziggs/Jinx) or implied (Jarvan IV/Shyvana and Caityln/Vi). Or is their no canon competition.

Maybe Graves and Twisted Fate. But those have gone back and forth on it.

Given what little I know about the series, yeah the page seems like a bunch of misuse. I am leaning toward cutting the whole thing.

I don't watch SVU most of the time.

Goren and Eames are by far the most popular couple from Intent. Maybe move to One True Pairing?

Elliot Stabler seems to be the most popular one for Olivia, though the other two listed are still more popular than any of her canon boyfriends, Carisi had a girlfriend for five seasons, and said girlfriend was apparently Amanda. So, in a way only Barba/Benson can't count for SVU because every other at least has a character with canon competetion. Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson is more popular for Benson, Alex Cabot and Olivia Benson is most popular for Amanda, and Barba/Carisi is most popular for Carsisi. Barbra lacks a canon love interest from my research

So, unless someone canon give me something I missed. I am going to rewrite the SVU stuff and move the Criminal Intent stuff to One True Pairing.

Okay from Live-Action TV:

  • Kevin and Macy were very popular in the first season of Jonas due to the both of them being able to accept and understand each others' quirks, not to mention the fact that Kevin was the first of the brothers to tolerate her Loony Fan tendencies. Many fans didn't like it when Macy's personality was changed to make it more compatible with Nick's in the second season.

One major problem Nick/Macy or "Nacy" is far more popular. Always has been, in fact unless I am misremembering that is why Nick and Macy were made canon. So, I am leaning cut here.

Can I please get some opinions on these here, here, here, here, here, and here?

Gotham: I've fed back on the Oswald and Edward one, so I know you're looking for other people to give input there (I agree with you on leaning towards cutting).

The O.C.: I'll trust your research on the Marissa ships, but it sounds to me like the Taylor and Ryan pairing doesn't have solid canon information. What the entry is saying is that Taylor and Ryan is fanon instead. As a result, there doesn't seem to be confirmed "creator preferred" to bounce a FPP off. You can't bounce a FPP off fanon, and you can't make the fanon ship FPP because there's no confirmed canon to bounce off.

Sabrina: I think you're good with that one.

Stargate Universe: I think you may be looking at both. Effectively, what you're saying is that the most popular ship is Young/Rush, but because the others have canon pairings, Rush/Others dominates those ships, too. So, it might be one example, but mentioning all of them, if that makes sense?

The Secret Circle: I don't know the work, but your proposal seems sensible, based on what the entries say.

Fargo: If there are no canon love interests, I'm fine with cutting it.

The Vampire Chronicles: I never quite made it to the more recent books in the series, so I haven't read Blood Canticle or the Prince Lestat follow-ups. Louis has always been the big one that fans return to, no matter how many lovers Lestat takes, nor how intense his love may get. My understanding is that Rowan doesn't appear again in the books that come out after Blood Canticle... so is there any indication that his attachment to her is any more lasting or deeper than his relationships to some of the other characters (especially the recurring ones)? My instinct is to say that going the Star Trek route makes the most sense for Lestat.

Elliot/Olivia definitely seems to be creator-preferred since Elliot's return at least - the franchise's official YT channel shills it, villains taunt them about it in-series, and poor Kathy, Elliot's wife, fell victim to Back for the Dead.

Elliot returned? Well, that complicates matter. So basically, now Olivia's most popular ship is being given Ship Tease. Am I at least correcting in my other assessments? Because if not we might have to cut the whole tree.

Yeah, Elliot's back, and now massively Author's Saving Throw'd from his earlier police-brutality-is-awesome characterization for obvious reasons, as the lead character in the new spinoff Organized Crime.

I found this on YMMV.The Dragon Prince:

  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Despite Callum's canon crush on Claudia, most of the fanbase likes the idea of him ending up with Rayla instead. Season 2 putting more emphasis on Callum and Rayla's relationship while hinting at mutual attraction and putting a strain on Callum's relationship with Claudia just fuels this even further. They end up becoming a couple in Season 3, to the fandom's rejoice.

Didn't we decide that this didn't count? I can't remember why but I am sure we did.

Something I just found I found out this was deleted from Live-Action Films:

  • Fun fact: on ff.net, there are virtually no pairings for Sebastian/Annette from Cruel Intentions. Pretty much everyone was rooting for the bitchy, scheming Kathryn.

I know why, but while it's poorly written, there is one here. Namely Sebastian/Kathryn. I don't know if it's okay to make an entry for it or not though.

[up][up][up][up][up]

I don't know if it was discussed before, but I think you can cut it. Rayla/Callum is canon. I don't think Callum/Claudia were ever supposed to end up together. They do go on one date, but Callum finds out pretty soon after that she is helping her father with his evil plan and they part on very bad terms, so that doesn't seem creator preferred to me.
