Dude, the fear of permadeath is part of the fun. </hardcore Jugdral fan>

And on the normal difficulties, it usually isn't even a problem in my experience. ....except in FE 6, but FE 6 is harder than the other two GBA games are.

Just reset whenever someone dies. That's what I did.

It ain't Fire Emblem if crippling fear of permadeath isn't involved. You learn to think about the wisdom of your tactics real quick.

Honestly, on the normal difficulty modes, if you stay alert and on your toes, you won't need to reset much. The snowball effect is very much on your side; as your units win more battles they get better at winning. Eliwood Hard Mode/Hector Normal Mode are fun challenges. (Hector Hard Mode feeds on your suffering.)

Ephraim Hard Mode (as well as certain chapters of Eirika Hard Mode) can also wreck your shit if you aren't careful. But then, Normal Mode is perfectly respectable for getting your feet wet with a particular instalment.

But yeah, most people just reset when someone dies.

Nevermind.

I'm a stupid little casual-playing newbie Awakening plebian who should never have posted here. I had a brief idea for a comedy fanfic in which my Avatar breaks the fourth wall specifically to scream at me for being a bad tactician enough to have to switch to casual mode after trying classic (and getting tired of resetting the game). My Avatar is annoyed because I make her look bad. This is unacceptable! (Would anyone relate)?

But if anyone knows of any good Chrom/Robin/Lucina/Morgan as a family unit fics or stuff about farmboy Donnel or about the Taguel people to recommend, I'll take a nibble.

[up] (Week old post I know but whatever)

I could maybe do something with an Avatar who is completely different depending on whether it's Classic or Casual, because of my wildly differing tactics: I go for Attack! Attack! Attack! on Casual and then completely turtling on Classic.

Classic!Tactician being all Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat! would be funnier, though.

You say as if that's not what happens in the other FE games with fast fliers that range out ahead, inflict ruin and slaughter, then narrowly avoid getting reamed by surprise reinforcements and cause you to spend the next two turns frantically figuring out how to keep them alive while the rest of the army comes up.

(I have memories of Lloyd's Version of Four-Fanged Offensive in FE7/HHM. Traumatic ones. Whoever designed that level should be shot and sent to hell, there to give Lavrentiy Beria lessons in pure sadism. Basically, if you ever play Hector Hard Mode, make goddamn sure your lords have a combined level above 50 when you hit that map, or oh christ you'll regret it.)

HHM had much, much worse moments than Four-Fanged Offense.

....although it's been years since I played it, so now I couldn't point them out...

True to some extent. That desert mission combines sand and FOW for a very unfun experience, and Battle Before Dawn is Maximum Bullshit, but what makes Lloyd's version of Four-Fanged Offensive extra-special is that it's theoretically avoidable. Linus's version is actually fun.

Whereas Lloyd's version is all about throwing together a flight of pegs and sending them off across the map diagonally before Unpromoted Knight Wallace gets murderized by enemy ballistae and lancereaver myrms (which will inevitably happen right around turn three or four, and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.) Oh, and naturally, it's fog of war.

You can alleviate that somewhat by dumping loads of XP on Wallace in LHM and then promoting him at the end of it.

Of course, the sheer number of turns involved in that is going to turn off 99% of players from bothering, but it's still an option.

Double post and finalized list: Oh and here are terms that everyone is going to use a lot.

Maps are now the equivalent to dungeons.

5 maps not counting the secret maps that are unlocked if players fufill requirements is one floor.

Every five floors are a saga.

At the start of every saga, everyone's class and Lord player status is randomized.

Kirito: For the first saga, Kirito is going to be a Lord player based off of the Myrmidon class like Lyn. When he promotes, he gets access to bows. In the next saga, he'll either be a Priest, a Knight or a Dragon Knight depending on how dickish I am. I'm making him more like his Abridged counterpart as I like him more because he acts an actual MMO player would.

Asuna: Pegasus Knight. Though I might make her a original class that's basically a FE 8!Valkyrie on pegasi. In the next saga, I'm going to make her a fast and accurate Shaman Lord. Basically the exact opposite of Micaiah.

Klein: Mercenary. And he's with Leafa as a double subversion of the Rena and Julian archetype. Also Leafa and Klein are going to be an item because incest makes my skin crawl. And this is coming from the guy whose favorite game ever that has a plot twist involving the bad guys having a plot that involves incest that makes a child vessel who becomes Dragon God Satan. I actually might make him a Lord player in the third saga along with Leafa.

Leafa: Is a Theif. She still has feelings for Kirito until she realizes that he's her IRL cousin which causes her to be ashamed and distances herself from Kirito and hangs out with Klein and his group of friends (whom I am using the OC-Stand in trope on ruthlessly). Oh and she got a Nerve Gear for the sole fact that there was going to be a Fire Emblem VRMMO. She's actually a big Fire Emblem fan in-universe who started with the later entries like Awakening and Fates/if who later played and loved the older games.

Lisbeth: A Knight. I was going to have her be an Est like character but then Silica happened. I think I'm going to have her be one of Kirito's IRL classmates who figures out who he is thanks to, you know, actually going to school with him. I think I'm going to have Asuna interact with her instead of Kirito because I don't want Lisbeth having to be rescued by big, strong and 'manly' Kirito, especially considering her arc is going to come after Sachi's.

Silica: Mage. I actually don't know what to do what to do with her other then the planned romance with Sinon. I was actually going to replace Kirito with Sinon in her arc but I wanted to know what you guys think about that.

Sinon: Archer, duh. I was actually going to have her become Kirito's friend and play the all the sexual tension tropes for laughs and drama.

Should I use the Midnight Black Cats as cannon fodder or should I have some of them live except for Sachi?

You gotta start somewhere.

Ugh...

I wrote a very stereotypical self-insert fic that was really dumb and it took place in Jugdral when I was a sophmore in high school. Thankfully, I was a quick learner and quickly tore it apart but salvaged it to write a better story then that.

I was a literal Possession Stu for Cyas/Saias (Who I admittedly did not like because He was Arvis/Alvis' son but could not use Fala/Valflame and thus 'disappointing' to me because I really like the said fire tome. It also didn't help that Sety/Ced was in this game where Levin/Fury is canon where he has Holsety. I know, I was a petty shit.)

But I deconstructed said trope by having my original body be transported to Judgral by the dragon gods where I served Sigurd in Generation 1 as a Armor Knight who used bows and got completely overshadowed by Midayle, Jamke and Briggid. Especially Briggid, holy shit. I did get promoted to General and that was enough for me. Like the rest of the males, I died at the battle of Barhara. I specifically died trying to protect Fury and Levin/Lewyn from Manfloy but I only succeeded in protecting Fury, who then died to grief.

And in Gen 2, I joined the Liberation Army back in Chapter 6. This is where the fanfic starts. I could use swords, light magic and dark magic. Thanks to me using FE 4 Inflation (A hack where everyone is OP as fuck plz nerf) instead of canon so I was just as OP as fuck as everyone else and everyone hated the fact that I could use dark magic and thought that I was a former Lopto priest which I frequently and furiously denied and it turned into a massive berserk button for me damn fast.

I quickly use modern guerilla warfare (what I knew of it and this is before I extensively studied it and read the Art of War.) and magic to get kills up the wazoo to be promoted fast where I become a Ravager which is the Tactician/Grandmaster class before it was even a thing.

Since the substitute children were still a thing as in my headcanon the subs are demoted to extra thanks to Genealogy's big epic story being told on a grand epic and political scale. They basically served as Canon Fodder. A more developed example would be Mana who suffered from Love Hurts from the Love Square that contained her, Lana/Rana, Larcei/Lakche and Celice/Seliph.

I was that nice guy who comforted her after she kept getting emotionally hurt. I, myself was falling for her as she was to me pretty damn cool. She was calm under pressure, she like myself wanted to improve herself to be more useful and wanted to help people in anyway she could. When she really messed up he chances with Celice/Seliph she asked to go with Delmud and Tristan to Leif's army so they can help their sisters Janne and Nanna, I tried to convince her not to do it because she wasn't in the right mindset. I failed but I ask Celice/Seliph if I could go with her as I'm very worried that she might get killed because I know how hard the Thracia 776 maps are. He lets me go with her. Also right before we go, Mana promotes to Sage.

Fast forward to the end of 776 where I kill Berdo (I'm allowing this as he is the weakest Final Boss in FE history.) and by the time when we get back to the main Liberation Army Seliph and Larcei are Happily Married. Mana doesn't take it that well. Long story short we become a Battle Couple after dealing with Altenna's Dragon Knight squadron in chapter 9.

You gotta start somewhere.

I've actually been toying with one of those, but without the "stereotypical" and "really dumb" bits, and with an added dose of Kamen Rider Kabuto crossover.

Cyas/Saias
Who's that? A 776 character?

....wait a tic. If you died at Barhara in Gen 1, why are you doing stuff in Gen 2?

I deconstructed said trope by having my original body be transported to Judgral by the dragon gods where I served Sigurd in Generation 1 as a Armor Knight who used bows and got completely overshadowed by
Heh. My idea takes the deconstruction even further - the insert has Kamen Rider powers (specifically the powers of Sasword, which can kinda lead to Black Knight/Bad Powers, Good People vibes/reputation), but has the same conditioning and combat skill as the author in real life (which is to say, exactly none at all). Steadily gets some training from canon characters (particularly from Noish, Ardan, and Aira, due to the whole Cool Sword thing) but is consistently unable to catch up in terms of skill/technique, thus being forced to get by purely on the Rider powers (which can be kinda OP, given your standard tokusatsu Finishing Move and KRK Riders having Clock Up - with the latter being so OP that whenever I want to do a crossover, I have to try and find some way to keep the user from spamming it).

Anyway, after surviving a hell of a lot of battles, is eventually offered to be a vassal of one of the good guy lords/nobles (prolly Lex). If there's a love interest, it ain't one of the local princesses.

The fun/interesting/challenging thing is that Clock Up would actually allow a Dangerously Genre-Savvy insert (especially one with foreknowledge) to completely and totally throw a wrench into Barhara and massively change shit up for Gen 2.

Cyas/Saias is one of two units that you get to pick before I think the pen ultimate chapter. The other is Lewyn!Ced/Sety. Saias is the bastard son of Alvis/Arvis and Aida. In this fic he unexpectedly dies thanks to Manfroy wanting to have Arvis on a tighter leash then in canon and him resisting (He is after all only a High Priest/Bishop again an entire squadron of Lopto cult members.

The dragon gods note my extreme will to live against in my own words: An asshole with possible mother issues (Alvis/Arvis) and a shitty old man who needs to get crippled to teach him some kind of humility (Manfloy). So they grant me a second chance at life by putting my soul in Saias' body.

They're honest-to-goodness knights, though. They're of a higher social class than the average self-insert would be (especially when placed into a Fire Emblem-type of setting). And Brigid wouldn't give a damn about it anyway, while Lachesis kinda-sorta carries an eternal torch for her brother, even if she's in a relationship with one of her comrades.

Although to be honest, that little bit was a) specifically targeting a KR Blade crossover I saw with FE 8, where the lead insert was getting shipped with Eirika; and b) unsubtle foreshadowing of my insert possibly being more inclined toward Sylvia.

I just pretend that she gets over her feelings for Eldigan/Eltoshan or at least tries to with the help of Finn or Beowulf or in the case of Thracia 776 both.

Unlike canon though she gets with Claude in my fic.

So I'm transferring my fic idea in here. Basically a crossover within all Fire Emblem franchises. To the point of making your OWN roster of FE compromised of nothing but existing FE characters spread throughout the saga from Ankoku to Fates. Roster range from 25-50 and there will be cross-support conversation. I still wonder if there will be same-origin support though.

Possible Lord would be... Marth. But I just wonder why?

So anyway! Cross-supports. Which cross-supports would be interesting?
