Fixing lewdness issues

Go To

This thread is for cleaning up pages that violate the No Lewdness, No Prudishness policy.

Do not use this thread for reporting pages that need to be cut for violating The Content Policy. Report pages that appear too lewd or gushy to have on the wiki using the "Report Page" button on the sidebar, with the checkbox saying "The page may violate the Content Policy" checked. That will create a thread on the Content Violation Discussions subforum. The thread will be opened by a mod if the report is valid, and if it's deemed necessary, the page will be cleaned according to the Content Policy. (The list of pages that were deemed problematic can be found on The Content Policy's page.)

No Lewdness:

"Lewdness" is more than just being about something sexual or potentially sexual. Here are some signs of lewd writing:

  1. Personal opinions on hotness. Examples should stand on their own without the introduction of YMMV material. Adding your own thoughts and feelings on an example is an opinion, same as calling an example good or bad. Don't do it. Don't try and extend your feelings to a larger group of fans either, e.g. "...and fangirls everywhere rejoiced". You're not fooling anyone.
  2. Overly detailed examples. The example doesn't need to be an exact sensory account of the event. Too much of that and you end up sounding like you're writing porn. When in doubt, drop a few adjectives.
  3. Unrelated fanservice mentions. If the hot bits aren't related to the example, they don't belong in the example.
  4. Pornographic writing. If you're writing porn, it should be somewhere other than the wiki. Keep it Family Friendly.
  5. Titillation links. Tell, don't show. We don't need screen shots to illustrate NSFW fanservice. If a reader is really curious, they can go look it up on Google. (See also Weblinks Are Not Examples.)
  6. Pedo gushing. We don't need to describe children sexually. This should be cut immediately. We're not interested in hosting pedophilia fantasies. Period. If a work contains children having sex, even if portrayed negatively, report it as a potential violation of The Content Policy using the "Report Page" button in the sidebar.
  7. Talking about actors instead of characters. An actor is not the character they play. When you're writing an example about a work, refer to the character, not the actor. This applies to non-sexual references, but too often it's tropers writing about how they find certain actors hot. That doesn't fit in character examples.
  8. Thinking a page with a Not Safe for Work subject is license to be lewd. Even when we discuss porn, we are about just stating the facts.
  9. Fanfic Recs for underage sex. We will not host any recommendation for fics that have explicit sex involving people apparently or actually younger than 16. Period. We categorically do not recommend fics with sex in which at least one participant:
This applies even if all parties are underage.

No Prudishness:

  1. Don't cutlist or gut pages just because they're about sexual topics. Sex exists. It's used in media a lot. You'll just need to cope with that fact. Relationships, fanservice, and sexual activity all fall into their own tropes as a result.
  2. Don't be a Bluenose Bowdlerizer. We're not looking to censor all sex off the wiki. If the sex and sexuality is an honest part of the work and relevant to the example, it belongs there.
  3. The wiki is not rated G. We aren't sanitizing the wiki for small children. Sex and sexuality are part of media and we aren't going to ignore them. This wiki is Family Friendly, not Unsupervised Small Child Friendly. This isn't an excuse to make work pages dirtier than the work itself, as the above No Lewdness section makes clear, but neither is it an excuse to make those pages cleaner than the work itself.

That's not even what the trope is for. The trope is a form of Visual Innuendo, and that's just literal porn.

Never got brought up here?

Hrrm, what's the timeline? Harry finds out he's the 7th close to the final battle which takes place in 1998 while he was born in 1980 so he's about 18. Fic moving the timeline down makes him about 17 at the start, but that's not enough for an instant pedo nuke.

How much boning vs plot is it? The fic is long as hell.

Looking at the actual page though, hoo booy there is a lot of focus on the boning.

Parallel Porn Titles needs a deep cleaning. There are many examples that are either not punny titles of the source material, or not actually porn parodies of the similarly named work (such as Elfen Laid not being based off Elfen Lied). I also don't know exactly how detailed we should be about these real-life pornos.

While snagging some examples for a new TLP draft, I realized ScrewYourself.Fan Works is a little too lewd for my tastes. A lot of examples are about porn fics, and at least one entry outright says it's a shotacon thing:

  • There is fanart of Wind Waker Link and young Ocarina of Time Link. Also of Twilight Princess Link and adult Ocarina of Time Link. And for the ones who want to cross over to shotacon territory, there's always a combination of the two... including both versions of Ocarina of Time Link together. However, the only one of those that is Screw Yourself is the Ocarina of Time Links, as the others are just reincarnations, identical great-great-(etc)-grandson, or Generation Xerox.

I'd like help on the rest of the page too. There's an entry from a Shadbase porn comic listed (with incest to boot!) and that just makes me very uncomfortable even if it's not linked. I'm copy/pasting some general examples to a draft for a new YMMV item and I don't wanna get Misblamed if the creepiness is intact (though the Shadbase one thankfully doesn't count anyway).

I took it to the formal P5 thread for more feedback. It's not even just one entry at this point; most of the page is about porn fics, if not just about shipping.

This is Warner Bros, though. I wouldn't put it entirely beyond them. Especially in the older cartoons.

I think general consensus tends towards removing it even if it is true. People told me to remove that sort of trope from Violine as well.

Forgot if this came up or not, but RoleEndingMisdemeanor.Other has a section about adult entertainment. The examples fit the item, but I'm not sure where we should stop on these career details (i.e. the mention of Melinda Smith doing "step-incest" videos which also seems very creepy to mention given the context).

    Adult Entertainment
  • The professional porn industry as a whole is actually pretty forgiving of the personal hijinks of its performers and producers, evidenced by the fact that several are former felons. Of course, it depends on their perceived star power how much they can get away with, but assault and battery, drug abuse, or domestic abuse alone usually don't suffice to get a high-tier performer blacklisted, especially if it occurs off-set. The fastest proven way for an adult pornstar to become Persona Non Grata is for them to lie about an HIV test and continue performing anyway (e.g. Marc Wallice), not only exposing their fellow performers to the virus but also putting the industry as a whole in jeopardy when the government shuts it down for however many weeks it takes to contain the outbreak.
  • Anything involving pedophilia is a career death sentence as well:
    • Ron Jeremy was charged with 24 counts of rape or sexual assault in June and August 2020 involving several women and at least one 15-year old minor. As he's facing a 250-year sentence and is already well into his 60s, "The Hedgehog" is probably gone forever.
    • Mercedes Carrera (real name Melinda Smith) was arrested in 2019 along with her partner for alleged meth and illegal firearms possession and sexually abusing a minor under the age of 10, purportedly her own daughter. While they are still awaiting trial, it's highly unlikely she'll ever be featured in anything again. In a really harsh and bizarre instance of Life Imitates Art, she was also one of many pornstars in her age range who agreed to feature in "step-incest" videos that became rampant throughout the 2010s.
    • In the mid-'80s, Traci Lords (born Nora Kuzma) quickly rose to become one of porn's biggest stars, earning more than $1,000 a day and the nickname "The Princess of Porn". There was just one problem: she was actually a minor who had lied about her age with forged documents, a revelation that came out in 1986 shortly after her 18th birthday. Not only did her career in porn end overnight, almost her entire body of work was banned (save for one film shot two days after she turned 18), X-Citement Video owner Rubin Gottesman received a year in prison for distributing child pornography, and adult video stores and theaters had to scramble to pull all of her movies and photoshoots off their shelves so they wouldn't be charged with the same. Lords did later transition to music and mainstream film, however, and has enjoyed success to this day as a B-Movie actress.
  • Porn director Tony T. was fired after allegedly assaulting Nikki Benz on the shoot of a Brazzers scene in 2016, repeatedly ignoring protests that she wasn't comfortable with his directions. The scene itself was removed from the company's line-up and will likely never see the light of day. He filed an as-yet unresolved defamation suit against Brazzers and Ms. Benz in response, which originally included Benz's male co-star before he dropped out.
  • James Deen became one of the most popular porn actors in the late 2000s due to his relatively "everyman" looks (such as a slender build and lack of tattoos) in contrast with the stereotypical image of hypermasculine male actors in the porn industry, and, as his Stage Name can attest, a resemblance to James Dean (his real name is Bryan Matthew Sevilla). This all came crashing down in late 2015, when multiple women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct including rape against him, the most notable being his former girlfriend and fellow pornstar Joanna Angel. Other porn actresses he worked with saying he was unnecessarily rough during their scenes together didn't help any matters. Kink.com, Evil Angel, and HardX.com severed all ties with Deen, stating that "consent is sacrosanct", and The Frisky cancelled Deen's sexual advice column.

I don't really think we should be troping behind-the-scenes stuff for actual porn even if it doesn't go into detail. I have similar concerns about the Hostility on the Set one-example "folder", which I think I've brought up before.

Hello, just wanted some second opinions on some of the entries for Zoe from Digimon Frontier. Zoe is a ten year old girl so these entries (which will have been written by adults and not fellow ten year olds) are iffy.

  • Distracted by the Sexy:
    • Her outfits as Kazemon and Zephyrmon both speak to this, as they consist of little more than boots and gloves over a bra, panties and garter straps. Kazemon's Love Tap attack is even meant to make her enemies fall in love with her to distract them.
    • There are some instances when this applies even when she's in her human form (primarily with J.P.) Not only the aforementioned, but she wears a short shirt that shows her stomach, has long blonde hair, and wears a pink skirt. Also, Takuya got distracted from his battle with Cherubimon daydreaming about being on a date with her after she offered him one.
  • Fanservice: Gotta love a girl who can envision herself modeling skimpy bathing suits and win an eating contest all in the span of three or four episodes, not to mention the skimpy outfits of her Digimon forms.
    • Her regular clothes, which include a short skirt and a belly shirt, seem to invite this as well.
  • Femme Fatale: At times, she even has used her good looks to bribe males into doing things for her, especially J.P.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Oddly enough, despite her age, she seems to invoke this intentionally. Her normal clothes consist of a sexy short skirt and a short shirt exposing her midriff. She also had her bellybutton tickled by Ranamon after being captured. A particularly saucy Imagine Spot had her imagine herself (Self-Fanservice, except she's doing it on herself?) in three different fanservice outfits, all playing it straight: one being a race girl outfit, the other being a one-piece swimsuit and the third being the infamous "Sexy Dynamite" outfit (a red bikini - which of course ended up getting cut by the dub). The one thing that didn't push those scenes into outright Squick teritory was the fact she imagined herself aged-up. Played straight with her Digimon forms, Kazemon and Zephyrmon, as they look less like warriors and more like winged fashion models in skimpy lingerie. One of Kazemon's attacks is hitting things with her ass.

My main question is do we use tropes with words like 'sexy', 'fanservice', and 'femme fatale' on a character page for a child?

[up] Yeah, that looks gross. A child on a kids' show baring her midriff is not enough to convince me that this is intentional on the show's part and not just a very creepy person sexually gushing about a child.

EDIT: So I have heard that the series does sexualize this character a bit, or at least have her call herself sexy, so maybe it is valid to an extent but it doesn't warrant this much detail.
