YMMV tropes for The Croods: A New Age go over here.
- Adorkable: Guy. He does wild mannerisms with his body, he's endearingly clumsy (mostly due to the Croods man-handling him), and his crush on Eep is endearingly sweet.
- Award Snub: There's a small but vocal minority who felt this film should have won Best Animated Feature over Frozen (2013), as many felt the art of this movie was just as, if not more sumptuous than Frozen's, and that this movie's story and visuals were more unique and creative than yet another Disney Princess film. (Not helped by the fact that Academy judges fully admitted they didn't watch the competition to Frozen, and more or less just gave it the win because of its popularity.)
- Awesome Music: "Shine Your Way", an inspirational song about finding your way through life with your own abilities.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Some of the creatively designed animals have left an impression on a lot of people. The Bear Owl in particular has received a lot of attention for its cool design, even if it isn’t in the movie that much.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie proved to be quite successful in many European countries. In many of said European countries, it even out-grossed Monsters University.
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- A gag early on about a neighboring family wiped out by the common cold doesn’t read as such a comically Weaksauce Weakness in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic, given the common cold, which can be caused by a fellow coronavirus, would have been (and was) similarly dangerous to early humans without natural defenses.
- The Running Gag of Gran bugging Grug by reminding him she's still alive. Not so funny after Cloris Leachman's passing in 2021.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Though most of the creatures are completely absurd hybrids unlike anything else in the fossil record, there are land whales, which sort of are a Truth in Television, as whales indeed did descent from land ancestorsnote
- Gwen Stacy romances Deadpool with the disapproval of her dad... Ghost Rider!
- This isn't the only time that Ryan Reynolds plays a character named "Guy".
- Memetic Mutation:
- ("The End") "Dun... dun... dun..."
- GRUG MOMENT◊
- Oh god, we're late for The Croods, premiering March 22nd 2013!
- Grug invented drugsexplanation
- Spiritual Successor: To The Flintstones. Both are cartoons of families (run by a stubborn but good-hearted caveman) getting by in a prehistoric world, though the Croods saga has a more lethal world and is more progressive when compared to the Flintstones' sitcom material.
- Ugly Cute: Sandy. And Eep, to an extent. Even some of the animals in the film might as well count for being odd but appealing.
- Viewer Species Confusion: The Bear Owl has been called an “Owl-Cat” by most people. To be fair, it does have more qualities reminiscent of big cats, such as its long tail.
