The Tropes associated with the series

  • The Ace: Everyone looks up to Yoo Won. He is a leader, he’s handsome, he’s smart, he’s popular. He is repeating a year, but people are still all over him. Not everyone can see, though, that he’s a real mess inside.
Hee Bum: "Even though I hate people that are stuck in popularity, I also think that not everyone can be like you."
  • Betty and Veronica: In the first couple of chapters it looks like the love triangle is between the friendly and reliable guy, Yoo Won (Betty), the mischievous and edgy one, Hee Bum (Veronica) and the main character, Jumi (Archie) in the middle. But after chapter 35 more or less the tables turn and Yoo Won is the "Veronica" love interest while Jumi is the "Betty" one to Hee Bum's "Archie".
  • Big Man on Campus: Choi Yoo Won was, before missing his CSAT.
  • Break the Cutie: Yoo Won was a nice little kid who only wanted to have friends and a nice life with his mother. But his poverty, his bad grades and his reputation after being accused of being a thief were the start of the bullying from his classmates. He even got beat up twice (By Min Woo and some thugs). When things started going well for him, Yoo Won realized how fake people were at his surroundings so he stopped caring about them, which resulted on his manipulative tendencies.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He’s very smart, he’s in the advanced classroom, but Hee Bum puts no effort in his studies, he goes to the academy just to fool around.
  • The Charmer: Yoo Won knows how to wrap people around his little finger. People say they can’t help but like him. Because of this, he also has a lot of good personal connections.
  • Cigarette of Anxiety: Both Kang Hee Jae and Choi Yoo Won share this quirk.
  • The Confidant: Jumi is, to Yoo Won at first, then to Hee Bum as well. The later gets too accustomed to it and even starts taking her for granted, until she breaks down.
Jumi: "Why do you only look for me when you're having a hard time? I've been treating you so well. Shouldn't you listen to me when I look like I'm struggling too? You ungrateful jerk."
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Both main guys have their own traumatic childhood.
  • Drama Queen: Hee Bum. A total dramaqueen. He gets so heartbroken in the first few chapters he even thinks in a dramatical way about jumping from a rooftop.
  • Don't Tell Mama: Eun Hye doesn’t know that her son really stole the bottle from his classmate (though she suspected so) nor does she know that he’s gay.
  • Gayngst: When he was a child Yoo Won fell in love with his friend Min Woo. Even though he never confessed (he probably didn’t realize what his feelings meant at that time) and just wanted to be friends with him, Min Woo got teased by their friends telling him that they should get married since Yoo Won seemed to like him so much. Not only did Min Woo get really angry and implied that Yoo Won might be the one who stole the bottle from Semi but he also beat him up.
  • Incompatible Orientation: When Jumi starts falling in love with Hee Bum, it looks like it’s an impossible romance since until that point Hee Bum seems to be gay. We later find out he might be… confused. Yoo Won and Hee Bum’s relationship has the same problem, since Yoo Won is gay, but that’s something only he and Gi Taek know, while the story suddenly implies that Hee Bum is actually asexual.
  • Insultof Endearment: At first Hee Bum starts calling Jumi “Jukkumi” (Webfoot Octopus) to mess with her since it sounds alike to her name. Later, when they start growing closer, he calls her like that as a nickname. He even buys stickers of little octopuses to stick in her phone.
  • I Want My Belovedto Be Happy: She may be heartbroken after she got rejected, but Jumi wants Hee Bum to be happy with Yoo Won when they get back together and tries to help them (until they break up again).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his bratty attitude, Hee Bum is unexpectedly a really good friend, who gets really attached to people who treat him nice and cares a lot about them.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Kang Hee Bum. Literally.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Everyone in Tae Poong High thinks that Hee Bum is a weird loner with a bad attitude.
  • Love Hurts: All main characters in this webtoon suffer from love.
  • Momma's Boy: If there is someone important in Yoo Won’s life, that’s his mother. He’d do anything for her, anything, she also loves her son very much and raised him on her own, going as far as working 15 hours a day with no breaks.
  • Mysterious Past: The story keeps foreshadowing that something really awful happened last year, it’s not until the whole flashback starts that we get to see and understand everything.
  • Nice Guy: Not only is she a nice, friendly girl, Jumi is also very patient and wants to help everybody around her. Hee Bum even tells her it would be nice if Yoo Won was as nice as her.
  • The Nicknamer: “Webfoot Octopus” “Beardie” “Rainbow Reflection” “Friend 1”, Hee Bum keeps calling people names and he doesn’t care if they like it or not.
  • No Social Skills: Hee Bum has no idea how to make friends. He’s socially inept. Even when he actually tries it looks really forced and weird.
  • Offscreen Breakup: We know that it happened, but we never get to actually see how Yoo Won and Hee Bum broke up. Not in the first time, nor in the second one.
  • Only Friend: Jumi, to Hee Bum.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: Jumi, as well as her friends, Do Na and Ye Bin are common korean high school students preparing for their CSAT.
  • Parental Issues: Since he is an illegitimate son, Hee Bum has some problems when it comes to getting along with his family. After being abandoned by his mother when he was seven years old, his closer family is his father, who he considers to be a monster. His father goes as far as hitting him just because he’s dating Yoo Won.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Basically Hee Bum and Yoo Won’s whole relationship is a mess because of their poor communication skills. Both feel as if they don’t love each other as much as the other so they stopped caring about it.
  • Sarcastic Clapping: Kang Hee Jae, Hee Bum’s father, does this when Yoo Won blackmails him.
  • Secret-Keeper: Even though Yoo Won was kind of hesitant at first, he tells Jumi to keep in secret his past relationship with Hee Bum and she does so. She shows that she’s trushworthy when she doesn’t tell anything to Sol Hee while being threatened by her. Not only that, but she also helps Yoo Won when he wants to introduce his “girlfriend” to his mother by faking being his lover.
  • Secret Relationship: Yoo Won doesn’t want his relationship with Hee Bum to come to light. At first it was because he didn’t want people to know that he’s gay since South Korea is a homophobic country and later, because if Hee Bum’s dad found out about them, he’d stop receiving money for his mother’s treatment in the hospital.
  • The Smart Guy: Choi Yoo Won. He’s always two steps ahead. Almost.
  • Starving Student: Yoo Won is poor, it is implied he doesn’t eat as much as he should. Basically his biggest problem has always been being poor.
  • Supporting Protagonist: While the story is told by Jumi, the plot is basically driven by the boys and their relationship. This is a direct contrast to Yoo Won's flashback since it starts with his point of view and he feels like the usual protagonist, with the story resolving around him.
  • You Didn't See That: When Yoo Won realizes that Jumi has seen him and Hee Bum kissing in the rooftop he tries to keep her mouth shut by buying her food and being friendly with her.
