"Can't you just be fuckin' normal?!"

James Lee, also known on YouTube as James Lee Animation or Nox, is an Australian YouTube personality.

His YouTube channel began in 2007 with the animated short TARBOY and he would go onto make other shorts. He now does rant videos starring an animated version of himself, ranting with his own unique brand of Surreal Humor.

His YouTube channel can be found here.

Nox's work provides examples of:

  • Bad Influencer: "Mystery Box SURPRISE!", where James plays the role of a scummy, lecherous internet personality trying to fleece his underage audience with $50 mystery boxes.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: Invoked in "Pewdiepie SΤRΑNGLΕS DOGS!?". After he gains a sudden spike in viewership, James tries to up his subscriber-count by making fake scandals based around the "YouTube 1%", and he picks PewDiePie as his first victim... and it's right after that does he find out that it was a shout-out from PewDiePie that suddenly made him so popular.
  • Brainwashed: In "Elden Ring: Unironically Terrible", James spends most of the video in a zombie-like state, only briefly breaking free in a manic state before whatever was controlling him regains control.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Most of James Lee's videos are just him muttering to himself (and the viewer) about his trains of thoughts, and he will often say or do weird and creepy things. Even when he's suposedly interacting with other characters, he still behaves like a complete weirdo.
  • Destructive Romance: "Breaking up with Adobe" deliberately invites the comparison between James' Real Life love/hate relationship with Adobe and a toxic relationship.
  • Eagleland: Type II (Boorish). In "Infected By Stupid", James briefly acts like a mid-pandemic Anti-Masker, espousing how basic hygienic precautions are a violation of his freedoms before going on a rant about how much he loves freedom more than anything (complete with the American flag in the background). It then shows that he's basically talking to one guy at a gas-station parking lot, having an emotional breakdown after losing his job.
James Lee: If a terrorist told me to give up freedom or he would blow up the whole planet, I'd say "well shit, that's a no-brainer. Give me the fuckin' trigger. Click, click click." And if freedom was a man, I'd suck its dick. And I'm against gay marriage. That's just how much I love freedom.
  • Escapism: In "Ellen & The Court of Public Opinion", the Court of Public Opinion condemning and executing Ellen DeGeneres is deliberately done to avoid all the "bad stuff" (climate change, COVID-19, everything Trump-related) literally happening outside of the building.
  • Fan Disservice: In IT'S OVER ELON, Elon Musk powers Twitter by literally fucking the server using his small dick energy. If that concept isn't offputting enough, then Musk's Gonk-y expressions and weird yells will do it.
  • IPhony: In "Elden Ring: Unironically Terrible", James does product placement for a fictional device called The Kube. It's a palm-sized cube with touch-screens on all six of its sides.
James Lee: Now available in Midnight Black, Charcoal Black, Bloodshit Brown and Black. The Kube. Be Yourself.
  • Kangaroo Court: The Court of Public Opinion videos portray James Lee as Judge for court proceedings out to either condemn or lionize different celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Keanu Reeves for arbitray reasons (or no reason at all). He even acknowledges that they aren't technically a real court.
James Lee: Guys, she's a Hollywood celebrity. I'm a YouTuber. [Restrained laugh] I fuckin' HATE Ellen!
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: He's typically characterized in shadow, with glowing teeth and white glasses that act like screens. When he gets particularly weird, the screens on his glasses will display spirals or other patterns.
  • Stylistic Suck: The animation James shows his mom in "Miyazaki Is My Dad" is a basic, background-less stick figure animation whose "plot" is simply James and a friend inflicting gory death on another Newgrounds animator for plagiarising James' gradient technique.
  • Take That!:
    • "Breaking up with Adobe" is James Lee literally yelling at Adobe for all of his problems with it (its bugs, its poorly received icon redesign, the price), only to stay with it anyway.
    • "A Life Without Facebook" shows just how predatory Facebook is, James Lee having developed an addiction to Facebook he tries and fails to break. It also shames Mark Zuckerberg, who sells everyone's personal data and then blames everyone else for thinking he could be trusted with it, thinking that the "free shit" Facebook gives them in return is a fair trade.
  • Too Hot for TV: The YouTube version of "IT'S OVER ELON" pixelates Elon Musk's dick; however, it's left uncensored in the Newgrounds version.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: One of James' animations gets a brutal takedown from his dad, Hayao Miyazaki, in this video.
