     Friends and Allies
Vivi has the Conqueror's Haki.
She was repeatedly yelling from the clock tower to stop fighting. Eventually, it clicked. Rain started to fall, and the armies stopped fighting. While it's played as a coincidence at that point in the series, very few things in One Piece are actually pure coincidence. It must be that her final attempt had awakened her Conqueror's Haki, even if for that moment, and turned everyone's attention towards her. In other words, what happened there was a smaller, weaker version of when Shanks yelled at the Whitebeard War participants to, well, stop fighting.

I'd imagine Vivi's Conqueror's Haki to be quite weak (well, relative to the likes of Rayleigh's, Shanks's, and perhaps Luffy's), but I am convinced it's present. It would make sense for her to have it. Cobra, her father, is a born leader and highly charismatic (and, prior to Crocodile's meddling, had an incredibly high approval rating for the ruler of a country in shambles), traits of those with Conqueror's Haki.

  • As someone with the name of D, that means she probably has the willpower to achieve it after all.

Why Hachi joined Arlong instead of staying with Jimbei
Hachi doesn't display the same kind of hate towards humans like Arlong, being friends with Shakky and Rayleigh and shown playing with Koala. If anything, his ideals follow more with Jimbei's than with Arlong's. Perhaps there was some deep-seated resentment that humans were the cause of Tiger Fisher's death and the final straw was Jimbei joining the Shichibucai and becoming a dog to the same group of people that had killed Tiger.
  • Well, he was part of Arlong'g gang before the formation of the Sunny Pirates. Plus, Hatchi has never been the smartest tool in the shed and Arlong may just be a bad influence on him.
  • Another reason may be that Hachi just saw an angry Jimbei beat the snot of Arlong and as the person above said, he was part of Arlong's gang and they had been close companions before joining the Sun Pirates so he essentially saw his older brother being beaten up by Jimbei.

Vivi will rejoin the crew at Mariejois.
  • She'll be there with Cobra, interact with her friends, be branded as a pirate, and have to go with them by default. The reasons for her joining are such: She follows the news. She KNOWS what's been going with the world, and with Ace's death. She has to realize how corrupt the government and the World Nobles are. She could join with the purpose of changing the world for the better.
  • Possible, but not likely. The crew already went past the Red Line. And the Revelry has ended with Vivi now MIA alongside Wapol.

Vivi and Dalton would have taken a level in badass during the past two years.
And they will proceed to display some ass-kicking ability during the upcoming(?) Mariejois Arc.

  • Vivi definitely has gotten more powerful. No word on Dalton quite yet.
    • Jossed as far as fighting during the Reverie - Dalton doesn't fight, and Vivi is captured offscreen by CP 0.

Makino's kid
Shanks is the father.
  • Alternatively, it's Ace's. Yes, this is WMG.
    • But it's an impossible one. It was clearly a baby; Ace has been dead for two years. 9 months of pregnancy and 2-6 months of life don't add up to two years. Even disregarding that, it's unlikely he left Whitebeard's crew to make the extremely long and dangerous trip through the New World, under the Red Line, through Paradise, over Reverse Mountain, and across East Blue to bang his Cool Big Sis figure and then get back across East Blue, over Reverse Mountain, through Paradise, under the Red Line, and through the New World again in time to catch Blackbeard kill Thatch. Sooo... completely possible for it to be Shanks' kid. Ace? Definitely no.
    • If the kid is Shanks', then the series conclusion will include Luffy inspiring the kid to become a pirate like Shanks did for him.
  • Wasn't this supposed to be relatively obvious?

Rebecca will join the crew.
Think about it; she's got a unique look, a unique weapon (a broadsword as opposed to a katana or shikomizue), and, if she wins the tournament, the Mera Mera no Mi's powers. Plus, I think it's time for a third female on the crew.
  • As much as I would like that, it seems unlikely now that her father has reunited with her, and told her she doesn't have to fight anymore. Unless Rebecca is somehow inspired by her father's acts and legend to keep on fighting anyway, it's unlikely she'll join the crew.
  • Late reply, but jossed for now as she chose to stay in much like Vivi.

Vivi and her family will again be relevant to the main story before the finale.
Consider this: Given the revelation that her family has the blood of the World Nobles, and the fact that sooner or later, said World Nobles and the Gorosei are going to fall, it seems likely that there's going to be a need for a new ruler for the world, or at least a de facto chairperson in the World Government. Vivi or Cobra seem the most logical for this role considering their just policies and reasonable leadership skills. Even if they don't end up taking this role, it seems likely that they will have a hand in shaping the new governmental policy in some fashion.
  • So far confirmed, seeing as they're heading to this year's Reverie, with Cobra dead set on asking the World Government some questions about the Poneglyphs. Whether they'll have a bigger role than that is still up in the air, though.
    • As of Chapter 908, even more likely for Vivi, given that she's on a very short list of people that the ruler of the world wants dead. If she gets targeted, it's incredibly likely that she'll end up being a refugee with the Revolutionaries or rejoining Luffy and his crew, because there is no way she'll be able to go back to Alabasta.
      • Confirmed. As of the Egghead Arc, it's confirmed that both Cobra and Vivi are D's, and that Sabo has seemingly been entrusted by a dying Cobra to get Vivi to Luffy, so it's likely that Vivi will not only be relevant, but be on the crew again.

When Bartolomeo meets Sanji, he will refuse to believe it's actually him
He's already pretty much the crew's resident Butt-Monkey, what with being the only Straw Hat who didn't have an actual photo as his bounty photo and instead a poor artist's impression. The fact that Sanji isn't really notorious for having done anything other than just beating up some bad guys would also contribute to this.

Kinemon's hair stays up like that because he never washes it.

Kinemon has a secondary power: seeing through disguises and invisibility.

Law is trying to find Sniper Island
The real reason Law has been taking people's hearts is because he's looking for Sniper Island. He only came up with the idea of sending those hearts to the marines after he failed to find it in any of them, and figured he had to get SOME use out of them.
  • Clearly he thinks the island might be found in Smoker's heart.
    • You owe me a new keyboard.

Law is Luffy's cousin
Come on, they must be related! He looked similar to Ace, too.
  • Well, technically they all belong to the D. family so it is indeed a possibility.

Luffy's Other Family (Garp, Ace, Sabo, unknown relatives)
Garp is a unique kind of Love Martyr for his family
From reading the story, Garp seems seriously alienated from his kin: his son is a revolutionary who wants to take down the WG, his older grandson has rejected his father and implicitly his whole paternal bloodline by changing his last name and putting the continuation of the family name at risk (big, BIG deal in Japan.), and his younger grandson fears him and never bonded with him deeply. In some way shape or form, Garp has been rejected by his known living family, and it was very likely his own damn fault. Yet he doesn't seem to mind what Dragon is doing, he visits Ace in prison, and even proclaims to Luffy he still wants to be loved by his grandson. No matter how they treat him or what they think of him, Garp unconditionally loves and cares about his family, and his fondest dream is to be loved by them in return.

Shakky from Shabaody Archipelago is Luffy's Grandma
Shakky is much older than she looks if Garp was chasing her back in the day and she seemed quite interested that Luffy was related to Garp. During one of their "encounters," Shakky might have done the horizontal tango with Garp and then dumped baby Dragon with him after he was born. She's very polite and intelligent, but tough when she needs to be: a lot like Ace. Perhaps Ace gets it from Dragon, because Garp sure as hell isn't anything like that!
  • Plus, Shakky saying Garp "chased her back in the day" could be a Double Entendre.
  • And her color scheme makes her look so much like him for some reason. (seriously, RIGHT DOWN TO THE SKIN TONE.)
  • Dragon's facial structure certainly resembles Shakky's much more than it does Garp. And Cowboy Cop Garp shacking up with a notorious pirate (who's now dating Roger's Number Two) seems extremely in character for him. Plus Garp's guilt about his family being highly wanted crooks could stem from the fact that he "polluted" his line with the blood of a criminal to start the whole mess.
  • Considering she and Rayleigh are married, that'd be a bit awkward for Garp to explain.

Dragon is not Garp's son
Like Gendo Ikari, Dragon took his wife's name when he married into the Monkey family. Garp never refers to Dragon as "my son" but always denotes him as "Luffy's father." And after Chapter 550, family classifications should be looked at veeery closely!

Big Mom is Luffy's mom.
Yes, it is incredibly obvious. Yes, Oda is known to subvert the obvious every time he can. It still needs to be put here.

Garp lied about Luffy's parentage.
Luffy is actually the son of Roger, while Ace was the son of Dragon. Luffy's character design looks way more like Roger than Dragon, and Ace looks more like Dragon than Roger.
  • Considering how emotional the reveal of Ace being Roger and Rouge's son was, I sorta doubt Oda is gonna back step it. It would render Ace's devotion to his mother totally meaningless and really stupid, and it would make the audience feel stupid too. Also, the manga has a flashback where Rouge calls Ace "Gol D. Ace"; it directly contradicts what you're proposing here.
    • You have a point, unless it was all shown to be some sort of plan. It would have to be written pretty well to work. But the point I wanted to make is that I was looking back a few chapters, and in Chapter 601, where Luffy is wearing Hancock's mustache disguise, it makes him look uncannily like Gol D. Roger....

Luffy's mother will be someone important
Because Ace's mother already covers the died to protect her kid angle and Oda generally is more original than having two characters fill the same role I'm thinking Luffy's mum has other reasons for her absence. Either
  • A member of the revolution. If this is the case she'll either be one of Dragon's lieutenants, a Messianic Archetype of the revolution(rebellious slave, member of a family/tribe/nation who were victims of the World Nobles and the government, many possible answers) whose romance with Dragon inspired him to take up her cause(explains how the son of a Vice Admiral became the leader of the world revolution, Dragon fresh out of Marine academy gets told to capture this revolutionary, things happen, she has Luffy, and she and Dragon become the world's most wanted criminals leaving the kid with Garp). Or maybe she'll be his equal but less infamous partner who runs the nastier and/or less seen side of the revolution, while letting Dragon keeps his hands fairly clean.
  • A World Noble. Just to flesh them out she'll be a Defector from Decadence who joined the revolutionary army or just had a romance with Dragon. Love for adventure, love for Dragon, or just some sort of epiphany about how much damage her people are doing being the reason. If she is in the revolution, Luffy got given away for the same reason as above, danger, if she stayed a noble and didn't follow Dragon he was given away for being a royal [illegitimate child] and to protect him from the probably horrific politics the nobles get up to.
    • Alternatively, she's a noble from Goa kingdom, or related to the royal family.
  • A New World pirate. Either a member of an Emperor's crew(would say one of them but both silhouettes of the other two don't look right, maybe she'll replace Whitebeard as the 4th though), or just a pirate powerful enough to survive over there, she met Dragon somehow, had Luffy and got Dragon to drop the kid off in with Garp in the East Blue, as neither a New World pirate crew or the Revolution is a place to raise a baby.
  • Maybe one of the 4 Emperors herself: Big Mom, anyone?
    • After her proper introduction, I sure as hell hope not.
  • do you think she's still in touch with dragon?
  • Gold Roger's sister. Or at least blood related. That could explain the why Luffy is similar to Ace and young Gold Roger, as an alternate to the other WMG above.
  • Whoever she is, I think she's dead. Is there any mother who haven't died in the series? Even Shirahoshi's and Vivi's mother are dead. Oh, and assuming she's also a D, she's almost surely dead. No known D female alive in the series.
    • This is supported by SBS where Oda said 'mother' is the opposite of 'adventure'.

Luffy's mom was an epic Genki Girl
He gets his looks and his more serious side from his father, and his more goofy, energetic side from his mom.

Luffy and Ace were, in some point, mixed
Ace sleeps spontaneously, like his grandfather, Garp and Luffy has been compared with Gol D. Rogers one time too many for it to be an coincidence. This would also lead to the interesting point of the real Ace being alive (Luffy)and the real Luffy being dead (Ace). Also, for those who noted the age difference, note that this may have happened when they were older than babies, but still too young to remember (the lady who was taking care of them mixed them up at first, they got used to it, and they grew too much for Garp to recognize them on his next meeting).
  • This is incredibly interesting, but also unlikely. By the time Luffy was brought to live with Dadan, he had already eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi, already had a scar under his eye, and they were already old enough anyway to be able to tell them apart, Luffy 7 and Ace 10. Even if age wasn't an issue, how can you confuse someone with a very visible scar with someone else?
  • They were both taken care by Garp. And Garp is one of the few persons who could make such a mistake... besides, the switch could have happened before that or it could even be orchestrated by someone else...

Garp originally dreamed to be a pirate.
Oda's drawing of young Garp depicts him with a treasure chest.

Garp and Roger are brothers.
Or oherwise closly related. This would expain so much, such as why Ace and Luffy look so much like each other, why Luffy looks so much as Roger, and why Gol D Roger trusted Garp, who was his enemy for years, with his sun.Seriously, they even look like each other!
  • Wouldn't that make him Monkey D. Roger? I mean, they *do* use the Japanese name format, the family name being 'Monkey'. Even though the Funimation dub retains it, the name scheme would be 'Garp D. Monkey, Dragon D. Monkey, Luffy D. Monkey, Roger D. Gold, Ace D. Portgas, Zoro Roranora, etc.]
  • As shown with Ace, he picked up his mother's name; and in the recent chapter it was possible to just hide some part of the name. It is possible someone just change their name out of convenience.
  • Or they're half brothers.

Sabo is adopted by Dragon
He'd had an initial D in his name.

Sabo will join Luffy's crew as the resident Logia user
He did mention in Chapter 731 that he has to "inherit Ace's will" and we know Doflamingo has been holding on to the Mera Mera no Mi as bait to trap Luffy. So Sabo is going to be the one to eat the fruit, display incredible power with it, and then afterward join Luffy in whatever capacity Luffy will allow.
  • Well, Sabo did eat the fruit, but the rest of the theory is so far unlikely considering he's Dragon's Number Two. I doubt he'd just up and leave the Revolutionaries, even for Luffy's sake; at least not without thinking it through first.

Ace's will is freedom
Which is, ironically, inherited after Sabo's 'death'. He said to Luffy 'to live without regret and more free than anyone else'. Luffy thought of 'Pirate king is the one with the most freedom'. As for Sabo himself he wants freedom from his noble family and later joined on revolutionary, which fights for freedom against World Government

Roger is Luffy's maternal grandfather.
Who's to say he never had any other children? A daughter of his would then go on to meet up with Dragon and end up having a son with him. Just imagine how the tension between Roger and Garp would be even further increased if their children were dating...
  • Kind of makes sense, but again, that would mean Ace is Luffy's uncle. And, as stated in canon repeatedly by people who know better, Ace and Luffy are not related by blood.

Robin is Luffy's stepmom
She hooked up with Dragon over the timeskip.

Sabo will awaken the Mera-Mera no Mi and use the power to defeat Akainu
We've never seen a Logia awakening before, and Sabo will be the first one in the series to do it. Part of the awakening will give Sabo the ability to push his flames to ludicrously hot temperatures, allowing him to vaporize Akainu's magma and overcome the Mera-Mera no Mi's inherent weakness to the Magu-Magu no Mi.
  • Two problems with this theory: Firstly, where does the story indicate that a Logia's awakening involves stronger powers? Where does the story indicate that Logias even have awakenings at all? Secondly, if Sabo can awaken his fruit after merely months of having it, then that also means Akainu should be awakened as well. And if Akainu's fruit is also awakened, then we're just back to square one with the Magu Magu no Mi overpowering the Mera Mera no Mi.

Other Straw Hats' Friends and Family
Tom isn't dead...
...he's somewhere in Impel Down. It's a big place. It would have been pretty easy for Luffy to never run into him, and even if he did their would be no reason for either of them to know who the other was. He may or may not have escaped during the break out.

Nami is related to Luffy and is a D
Nami has the ability to predict the weather and manipulates the weather using the Clima Tact. Who else has shown weather related abilities: Monkey D Dragon. It's possible that she's actually Luffy's sister. Nami's biological parents are unknown. Monkey D Garp thinks his older grandaughter is dead and doesn't make the connection. Luffy doesn't have weather powers but that may be due to genetics or canceled by his Devil Fruit. Also, only two people have been shown hurting Luffy without Haki: Garp and Nami. This, of course, would make Nami a D.Smiling in the face of death: No death situation for her so far.Faith in dreams: CheckInvolved in big events: Check
  • This theory makes no sense. The whole crew has been able to hurt Luffy, and that's because it's specifically stated that Luffy can only be hurt by people who love him and who he loves in return. And all the crew members have faith in dreams and are involved in big events. It has nothing to do with being a D. There's also no evidence that Monkey D Dragon's weather powers are genetic(or that he even has any), whereas Nami's intuitive connection to weather is hyped to be much deeper than that. This wouldn't really serve any purpose in the story other than the obvious.

Ever since he moored onto Water 7, young Cutty Flam has always shown exceptional talent in shipbuilding and engineering, and has made truly formidable weapons out of scrapped parts. Although in the current running of the manga Franky's family line has not been given any exposition and leaves much room for guesswork, I would not be surprised if he ended up being quite a chip off the old block.
  • And now Franky's at Vegapunk's childhood home.
  • Unlikely: it's stated that both of Franky's parents were pirates (which Vegapunk isn't).
    • He isn't now, but plenty of the characters have piracy in their pasts.

Gloriosa and Vegapunk were Franky's pirate parents until Fisher Tiger went against the World Nobles. Then she took the Hancock sisters back to Amazon Lily and he joined the World Government.

Captain Yorki, of the Rumbar Pirates, is still alive.
And he's having a drink with Crocus. Minor one, but there ya go.
  • Wouldn't Crocus or Laboon seem a little more... unbelievably ecstatic?
    • If Crocus is having a drink with him they already ran into him and have got past the ecstatic excitement stage.
  • Alternatively, the man they're talking to is Shiki, 2 years after Strong World (which is canon if I remember correctly), reminiscing about the old pirate ways with Crocus. The long hair would fit, and the hat hides the fact that it's obviously him, due to the steering wheel in his head. Also the reason why his feet are obscured by a rock, since he has swords instead of feet.
    • Isn't Shiki one of Oda's random giants? That guy doesn't look oversized to me.
  • Another possibility would be one of the remaining survivors of Rogers pirate crew. It is likely that Oda will reveal more members of Rogers crew at some point, and since Crocus was a member of the Roger Pirates it makes sense that he would share a drink with a former close companion.

Kuina and Tashigi are twins seperated at birth.
I'm really surprised no one has thought of this yet. For some odd reason, their dad had to give up one of them to the marines and trained the other in the ways of the sword.
  • Doubtful. Chapter 0 shows Kuina as an only child, and her parents' dialogue gives no indication that they may have had another kid, and they talk about Kuina as if she was their one and only. Also, to be honest, for One Piece's tone, Oda prefers emotional story lines, and I'm not sure if you can get a lot of mileage out of that, and it would seem really awkrawd. Tashigi wouldn't really have a real relationship with either Kuina or her parents, and hence it would be really hard to develop into something that works in that certain OP spirit. In the context of OP's tone and themes, it just seems, I dunno, sorta meaningless and contrived.
    • Well, half of the theories on this page completely disregard Oda's writing style.

Nico Robin's father is Gol D. Roger.
To the person who originally posted this WMG: I could actually see this happen. After all, it was revealed in the Skypeia arc that Roger was able to read Poneglyphs, and so far nobody outside of Ohara's scholars has been shown to be able to do so. Until now. And if it turns out to be true, then it wouldn't be the first time a character was revealed to have taken their mother's surname instead of their father's (the first being Portgas (mother's name) D. Ace a.k.a. Gol D. Ace).
  • This theory makes no sense. First, Robin doesn't have the D. initial, or anything in her name that could be shifted around into one(like Gold Roger); even Ace kept the D. initial despite abandoning Roger's surname. Second, Roger's ability to read Poneglyph comes from a mostly undefined ability to hear "the voice of all things", not the years of study and interpretation done by Ohara's scholars, which was why Rayleigh told Robin that she would be better off finding the Rio Poneglyph herself than hearing the Roger Pirates's interpretation of it. Finally, there's absolutely no narrative reason to make this happen; it would only come off as cheap and contrived(Granted, most of the entries on this page would come across the same way as well, but still).
    • Chapter 818 shows that the Oharan's were not the only group who could read the Poneglyphs and the people who created them are still around. Though the art of reading them is now lost with the recent murder of the last person on a certain island by a certain Yonko.
  • Recent chapter showed it was possible to hide some part of the name. Still unlikely, though.

When the Strawhat's see Laboon again Laboon will die right away.

Crocus and Clover are somehow related, most likely brothers.
Both of them are old, have little to no regard for the world government, and have been named after flowers and grow their hair as such. And think about it; most people wouldn't have stayed with Laboon. While they'd care deeply about him, and would pity the whale they'd still want more adventure and would leave, like Luffy and crew. Crocus is staying with Laboon because he knows what a it feels like to lose someone important to you, as he lost his brother in the Ohara incident. Also, they seem to be around the same age, and are really the only two characters named after plants that have styled their hair as such.

Yorki could hear the Voice of all Things.
He was a captain of a crew whose deal was music.

Ryuuma was the last shared ancestor of Brook and Zoro.
Just because.

     Dragon
Dragon has the Dragon Zoan Fruit
Now that we know that mystical Zoans like the Phoenix fruit exist, it's possible to be a Zoan and have amazing powers. Dragons were associated in Eastern mythology with power over the weather which would explain Dragon's connection to the wind and perhaps even the lightning that saved Luffy. Mystical Zoan fruit, Azure Dragon of the East? Power over the storms and lightning?
  • First Dragon's "powers" are entirely and highly speculative, and his name is Dragon not a nickname which is where Oda seems to like the put more obvious monikers. A Dragon that ate the Dragon isn't clever, its too obvious
  • Second... there's now a Dragon Zoan user in the Punk Hazard arc. While the weirdness of the case (a supposed artificial DF)might allow there to be more then one user by the rules, that doesn't make it dramatically any less repetitive.
    • I disagree. In shonen manga, it's almost always the case that rare = powerful, and Oda makes no attempt at subverting this trope. There's a big difference between a mythical zoan and an artificial, likely imperfect devil's fruit. Besides, Mononosuke's devil's fruit hasn't been explored at all (well, yet).
    • Double Jossed. Kaido has the Dragon Zoan fruit.
      • SBS 98 reveals that the name for Kaido's fruit is Fish Fish model Azure Dragon. It's possible that there is a model of a completely different dragon. In addition, Chapter 1009 reveals that Momo's artificial fruit is directly made utilizing Kaido's Lineage Factor. It's also possible that Vegapunk made multiple variants around the same time as this one.

Dragon isn't Luffy's father
He's his mother. Thanks to Ivanakov's hormonal powers.

Dragon was kidnapped and enslaved as a child
Hence why he's fighting the government; the tattoos are actually a brand mark.
  • His tattoos are different from the Tenryubitto's Hoof of the Soaring Dragon. Nevermind it would take massive balls from a kidnapping gang to sell the Hero of the Marines' son into slavery.
    • Doubtful Dragon was shown at Roger's execution without his tattoo's and he looks to be in his twenties [1]

Dragon will have a Papa Wolf moment.
Like Olvia with Robin, Dragon's separation from his family is for their protection from the wrath of the World Government. But with both of his sons at risk in the heart of the World Government, Dragon's going to raise all hell similar to Whitebeard to keep them safe.
  • And in turn, Garp will go all Papa Wolf for Ace, Luffy, and Dragon.
    • Well, minus Ace now.

Dragon has the Logia fruit power to control air
The first time Dragon's seen in the series a huge gale appears that saves Luffy his son from Smoker. And a revolutionary having that kind of power would be a cause of concern for the Marines; he could easily create typhoons able to sink entire battleship fleets.
  • I believe that Dragon's Devil-fruit contains the ability to control weather. Combined with the gale example, this would also include the lightning that struck Buggy when he was seconds from executing Luffy.

Dragon ate the Poseidon-Poseidon fruit
He has control of wind and lightning, he's got a major beef with authority, and his kid Luffy is pretty badass. Also, it'd be really cool.

When Dragon finally fights, he'll have Yonkou-level strength.
He's been known about for a pretty damn long time by the World Government, he probably saved Luffy at Loguetown, he's the most wanted man in the world, his father is a Vice Admiral who has passed up an Admiral position many many times, said father rivaled Roger back in the day, and, most importantly, his son is LUFFY. His strength is probably just plain epic level.
  • somewhat confirmed Dragon did get into a fight with the Yonko Blackbeard that destroyed Baltigo and he and Sabo were able to get away clean.

Dragon is the son of a noble
Now, as someone else on WMG pointed out further up, there is the possibility that Dragon is NOT Garp's son. Garp could very well be related to Luffy through his mother's side. Or, even if he is, it's still possible that Garp's wife was of noble birth, though it seems unlikely. Either way, he could have grown disgusted with the aristocracy much like Sabo did and dedicated himself to changing it.

Monkey D. Dragon has studied in Weatheria
Dragon can control weather, and even with a Devil Fruit (unless it is the Weather Weather Fruit) it takes knowledge to completely control weather.

Dragon was once a Marine
Just like Ace and Luffy, Garp pushed heavily for his son to become a Marine. Unlike them, he did, until one day he was among a Buster Call fleet on another Ohara. Disgusted by what he saw, he vowed to change the world for the better. Also explains why Garp was so pushy for Luffy and Ace to become Marines. To make up for the Black Sheep of Dragon.
  • I agree that he defected, though not necessarily because of Ohara.
    • this picture seems to lead credence to the theory [2] This is the same picture that Rocinante made his first appearance
    • Chapter 1097 confirms this from Dragon himself. He hated that the marines didn’t truly follow in justice, so he quit.

The reason Dragon became the Revolutionary Leader in the first place...
...was because his wife/lover was murdered by the World Government. It would explain why there's been no mention of Luffy's mother's whereabouts anywhere in the storyline as yet; perhaps she was killed by a representative of the World Government or the Marines (who take orders from the World Government) and Dragon decided to become a Revolutionary in order to avenge her death, in the process sending a then-infant Luffy to stay under Garp's protection to keep the world from knowing that Luffy is his son.
  • Except Oda said that Luffy's mom is still alive.
    • Really? Where?
      • Yes, do provide a link to that, because I don't remember ever seeing it in writing or seeing it referenced anywhere in the manga.
      • I think it's in one of the SBS's but I can't be too sure.
      • Citation needed...find out which SBS and report it here.
      • I checked them all and no dice. But it did say on Luffy's page on the One Piece wikia that his mom hasn't made an appearance so she may eventually. Knowing Oda this could become very important, actually.
      • Just because the page said Luffy's mother hasn't made an appearance doesn't necessarily mean that she's still alive. And in any case, if she was alive, wouldn't any of the people who are aware of Luffy's connection to Dragon, or even Dragon himself, have mentioned her whereabouts by now?
      • She's connected to Dragon. She's probably being protected and hidden by Revolutionaries. And again, do you think that the Marines have enough members to spare to hunt down a single woman? They couldn't even catch Rouge. There are several Level 6 prisoners running about, so worrying about something like one other pirate's mom is just not very important.
      • The Marines are a world-wide organized force (in fact, they are one of the world's three great powers along with the Four Emperors and the Seven Warlords of the Sea), and they were willing to follow orders to viciously hunt down every woman who was pregnant at the time of Gold Roger's capture just to find the one who was carrying his child. And if Luffy's mother is alive, why didn't Dragon send her into hiding together with Luffy? Surely being around the Revolutionaries all the time would be a dangerous thing to do, given that they're involved in hostile activities against the World Government basically every day...
      • Maybe she's just badass enough to hang around the Revolutionaries all the time. Maybe that's how she's still alive.
      • If that were the case, then Robin would have been close enough and able enough to find that much out, considering that she spent the duration of the Time Skip together with the Revolutionaries and, by extension, would likely have gotten to meet Dragon himself. Additionally, keep in mind that when Bartholomew Kuma was reflecting on Luffy's True Companions, he directed his thoughts only to Dragon and not to Luffy's mother - AND he would have been in the perfect position to know whether Luffy's mother was with the Revolutionaries or not, but considering that he never even drops an inkling of a hint toward that possibility, the chances of her being with the Revolutionaries are, at most, remote.
      • Until it was proven otherwise, I'm going to assume she was dead. No mother is known to survive in this series, action girl or not, related by blood or not. Especially in the flashback.
    • Oda did mention in SBS that Luffy's mom is 'rough and not feminine' and the reader 'might see her soon', but given the context, he was referring to Dadan. Dadan is Luffy's mother as much as Bellemere is Nami's mother.

If Dragon really tried, he could wipe out Mariejoa and decapitate the World Government.
But he hasn't done it because he feels the world isn't ready yet. Just look at how much destruction Fisher Tiger alone wreaked upon the city. For a person who seemingly has weather control powers and an entire army, going a step further than Fisher Tiger and completely destroying Mariejoa should be possible.

Dragon can read Poneglyphs.
It would explain why Bartholomew Kuma put Robin in a position where she'd be able to spend the Time Skip with the Revolutionaries—she would have gotten deeper insight from Dragon on the Poneglyphs' importance.
  • That doesn't work at all. They've been calling her the "light of the revolution" for years. Why? Because she can read the Poneglyphs, something that could prove vital because she was the last of the people who could actually do it.
    • Maybe he only has a basic knowledge of how to read poneglyphs
    • I'm pretty sure Robin got the "light of the revolution" moniker for being the only Oharan to survive the Buster Call after they openly defied the World Government. Not to mention evading capture for 20 years. And that story the WG made up about her single-handedly sinking 3/5ths of the Buster Call fleet.

Dragon has the Voice of All Things.
I think this is more likely than Dragon being able to read the Poneglyphs and it would better explain why he needed Robin. Since Rayleigh stated people with the Vo AT like Roger are somewhat able to understand the Poneglyphs but that it isn't that accurate.
  • another point is the both Momonosuke and his father both had it so it wouldn't be that surprising if Luffy and his father had it too.

The wind that stopped the fire in the Grey Terminal was caused by Dragon's devil fruit
This ties in with the theories that he had a wind-type devil fruit.
  • You do realise he had Bartholomew Kuma with him, right? You know, the man with the ability to push things? It was probably him.
  • What about the guy/girl who can create shock waves by winking?
  • Except that both powers are a sort of "single blast", meaning that in order to create a proper tunnel between the flames they would have to shoot at will, while they appear totally steady. I think that Dragon employing wind powers (be them Paramecia or Logia) is the simplest and more plausible explanation.

Name of Dragon's possible Devil Fruit

Assuming he does indeed have a Devil Fruit with power over wind and, possibly, lightning, it could be called one of the following:

  • Storm-Storm Fruit (or Arashi Arashi no Mi)
  • Tempest-Tempest Fruit
  • Weather-Weather Fruit
  • Wind-Wind Fruit
  • Air-Air Fruit
  • Ryu-Ryu Fruit- Model: Azure Dragon of the East
    • Azure Dragon jossed; that's Kaido's fruit.

Dragon isn't Garp's son by birth; he actually took his daughter's name when he married her.
Does a close relative of Luffy taking on the name of an important woman in his life sound suspiciously familiar? Yes. Can Oda make lightning strike twice? It's possible.

Dragon's bounty
Dragon was once stated to be the single most dangerous and wanted man in the world. This would put his bounty somewhere between 5.04 and 5.56 billion - higher than Whitebeard's (who was still alive at the time), but not quite able to match the record-wielder Roger. Unless the government had upped Whitebeard's bounty shortly before his death, to reflect the new greater threat of being in his crosshairs... or they simply would not put up bounties to non-pirate threats, for some reason.

Dragon isn't Garp's child...
He's Rocks'. For explanation...

  • It's already been explained that Dragon looks nothing like both Luffy or Garp, but he DOES look like Rocks.
  • Garp has never referred to Dragon as his son, only Luffy's father.
    • And while this can be easy explained by Garp calling Luffy the "child of his child", there's another, just as plausible explanation that makes the theory valid. Dragon could have more than likely married Garp's daughter. He takes her Monkey surname as they married, and she dies some time after giving birth to Luffy. So, in a way, Luffy is still the child of Garp's child, but Garp is now Luffy's maternal grandfather rather than his paternal.
  • Garp already adopted a child from a legendary pirate in the form of Ace. And why would Dragon change his surname from Rocks to Monkey? Because his father was undeniably the worst, most feared pirate in existence, so feared that he was erased from history.
  • Garp and Dragon's faces look remarkably similar.
  • At the time of the God Valley Incident, Dragon would have to be around 17. Perhaps he joined Garp around that time.
  • Dragon and Rocks' dreams are slightly similar. Both want to end the tyranny of the Celestial Dragons, albeit in different ways.
  • Rocks more than likely named his own son Dragon as a boast, as he was going to essentially kill and replace the Celestial Dragons, thus making his son the ruler of the world should he have died.

Dragon does have a Devil Fruit ability, but it's not the one you think
Contrary to expectations, whatever power Dragon has doesn't have anything to do with wind or the weather. Rather, it's a Devil Fruit that has to do with stealth, which would explain how Smoker wasn't able to detect Dragon's appearance during that initial confrontation in Loguetown. Also, Dragon likely would have eaten the fruit a very short while before the start of the series, giving him just enough time to master its intricacies. It's the Nagi Nagi no Mi, a.k.a. Donquixote Rocinante's former Devil Fruit, which returned to circulation after his death in Law's backstory and which we haven't heard anything about in the present day since then.

Dragon's placement among the antagonists in the original "We Are" intro wasn't a coincidence
He'll prove to be an Archnemesis Dad to Luffy, or at the very least they'll have a physical confrontation of some sort. The original intro simply foreshadowed it decades in advance.

     Revolutionary Army

Kuma and Iva are former lovers.
Iva's trying to beat some sense back into Kuma is simply hir going tsun tsun, a la "How DARE you forget your former lover!"

Plus, it would be totally hot. Iva's power, plus Kuma's ability to reject fatigue from one's body... They could go at it for days on end.

  • Not Jossed but, the reason Ivankov was so upset was because they were Childhood Friends who escaped slavery to the Celestial Dragons together.
  • Jossed, Kuma was in love with Ginny and while never able to get together with her, they stayed side by side and after she died he was too busy taking care of Bonney.

Iva can non-lethally dispatch an opponent with his devil fruit powers by giving him/her an instant orgasm
Sorta like the machine from Orgazmo. They'd be too busy writhing on the floor in unwanted pleasure to attack.

Hack is a revolutionary member and the true teacher of Fishman Karate
Since Koala is mentioned as its substitute teacher, and Hack is shown contacting someone in Den Den Mushi, it seems likely.
  • Yes to both look on the one piece wiki it says he's the Fishman Karate instructor of the Revolutionary Army.

Nami and Koala will come to blows
Back when she was a just-liberated-slave traveling with Fisher Tiger and his crew, Koala interacted fairly often with Arlong. She likely has good memories of him, as back then, while he was a Jerkass, he wasn't quite as bad as what we've seen of him in the present timeline. By contrast, of course, Nami has no good memories of Arlong, given what he did to her. Currently, Luffy has made tentative allies with the Revolutionaries through his re-connection with Sabo and through Hack's past friendship with Jinbe; however, when Nami and Koala interact directly, Koala will make a casual reference to Arlong that sets Nami off, leading to a major confrontation as their differing memories of him results in direct tension and friction.
  • Wasn't Arlong pretty mean to Koala, too? Wiki says he never wanted her on the ship. Anyways, I'd personally say Nami's attitudes towards Fishmen have been addressed sufficiently in the Fishman Island Arc.

Morley is the one who tunneled out Level 5.5 in Impel Down.
Way back in the Impel Down Arc, Ivankov makes an offhand comment about a Devil Fruit user with the power to tunnel through the ground, leading to the creation of Level 5.5, a secret paradise for Okama. Some hundred chapters later, we meet Morley, who demonstrates similar behavior to an Okama and can tunnel through the ground by manipulating it like clay. It would make sense that a Revolutionary was behind this secret refuge, especially if it was someone from the Okama homeland and a direct subject to Emporio Ivankov's jurisdiction, both of whom ended up in Impel Down and "mysteriously" disappeared with the intent of using the prison as a secret meeting grounds and recruiting place for more revolutionaries and/or transvestites.
  • Partially confirmed. Yes, Morley created Level 5.5, but that was over a hundred years ago, and he only joined the Revolutionaries relatively recently. Ivankov was the one who altered the space into a paradise.
