Catch 'em all by group in a different kind of "Type".
Learn With Pokémon: Typing Adventure is an educational on-rails "shooter" game developed by Genius Sonority and published by Nintendo and released in 2011 for Nintendo DS.

In the game, the player has taken on the role of a rookie typist and, with the aid of Professor Quentin Werty and his assistant Paige Down, must travel through short levels and capture Pokémon by typing in their names. The player does this with a Bluetooth wireless keyboard that came included with the game.

The game is the only game in the Pokémon franchise with an English version not to receive a North American release, likely because Nintendo of America focused all of its marketing on the then-new Nintendo 3DS.

Tropes found in the game:

  • 100% Completion: There are a total of 403 Pokémon featured in the game which can be added to your in-game Pokédex by successfully typing their name in. In addition, every stage has a bronze, silver, and gold medal to unlock.
  • Achievement System: The game has a medal system where meeting certain criteria in courses will earn the player a bronze, silver, or gold medal. Earning enough medals of each variety gives the player unlockables.
  • Big Boo's Haunt: G Mansion has the player going through a haunted house where they must occasionally type "key" to obtain a key to unlock doors. In addition, all of the Pokémon seen here are ghost type. L Dark Path takes place along a path in a dead forest at night.
  • Blackout Basement: At Apostrophe Power Station the player must keep the lights lit by correctly typing the names of electric type Pokémon. The player must do the same with candles in No. 0 Midnight Mansion.
  • Boss Battle: There are Boss Pokémon at the end of some levels which require you to type their name followed by additional actions to capture them.
  • Bubblegloop Swamp: T Great Plains takes place in a wetland and contains multiple grass and water Pokémon. The player must deal with Croagunk in Backtick Bog.
  • Death Mountain: D Peak Pass takes place at the top of a mountain area. R Crag and B Canyon take place at the base of a mountain range. H Peak has the player approaching the peak of a volcano. At No. 6 Rockey Mountain, the player plays a minigame to stop Pokémon from climbing a mountain. The player is moving along a mountainous cliff in I Ridge.
  • The Ditz: Paige Down. Clearly by some of her dialog she's not Professor Werty's brightest assistant...
  • Edutainment Game: Catch Pokémon by learning how to type their name on a keyboard.
  • Four-Seasons Level: S Garden has the player moving through themed areas based around all four of the seasons, with the appearing Pokémon changing for every season and Deerling and Sawsbuck appearing in their respective Seasonal Forms.
  • Green Hill Zone: A Fields is a large grassy area, and fittingly based on the first letter of the Alphabet. F Path takes place on another grassy field as well but with the player walking a straight path. Never-Ending Tab Track takes place on the same field but with time moving from night to day, and then back to night. V Cove puts the player on a path right next to a cliff but still within a green field. In N Cliff, the player is walking along the edge of a grassy cliff. In Bracket Park, the player is moving through a grassy park. Sunset Forward Slash Way takes place in grassy fields at sunset.
  • Hailfire Peaks: Hyphen Quarry moves the player from grassy fields to the rocky base of mountains. Bracket lake is a lake in the middle of the plains that features water and grass type Pokémon. Equals Rapids puts the player down a fast-moving river in the plains. Hash Canyon sends the player through a canyon at the base of a waterfall once again in a grassy field.
  • Hornet Hole: Surprinsgly, the inside of Q Castle is a beehive with Vespiquen as a Boss Pokémon.
  • Lethal Lava Land: H Peak takes place atop a volcano and has the player encountering fire and rock Pokémon leading up to an encounter with Groudon. P Volcano is set inside of the volcano.

  • Locomotive Level: No. 4 Train Ride occurs on a train ride through the grassy fields.
  • Lost Woods: E Tall Forest, K Wood and U Promenade take place in a large forest area. The same forest is foggy in J Shrubbery.
  • Luck-Based Mission: One of the Achievements of the No. & Lucky Paradise stage is to correctly guess which egg tossed by Chansey is the lucky egg multiple times.
  • Painting the Medium: It's a typing-themed game and the game's map is a keyboard with every stage in the game being mapped to a single key.
  • Palmtree Panic: X Resort, C Beach, Z Islands, and Comma Coast take place on a beach and a group of tropical islands. M Waters has the player surf on water just off the beach.
  • Point-and-Click Map: The game's map is a keyboard and all the player needs to do to access a level is to press that same button on their keyboard.
  • Shifting Sand Land: No. 3 Sparkling Sandshine takes the player through a desert. W Oasis has the player move through an oasis in the desert.
  • Ship Level: Full Stop Shipwreck has the player moving through a haunted ship.
