Take That / Pokémon Reset Bloodlines

Go To

The Resetverse has several in story, in omake, or in expanded universe.

Main Story

  • The Samurai is largely The Scrappy in the fandom for his canon counterpart being responsible for the series' first Broken Aesop.note  He's depicted as Butt-Monkey who loses his battles in a humiliating way, though later stories would see him get better.
  • While swimsuit shopping on the S.S. Anne, Misty finds the infamous sling bikini from The Electric Tale of Pikachu. While she briefly mulls over buying it, she decides it's too much for her tastes, and notes even her sisters wouldn't wear something that revealing.
  • Belladonna is partly based on an incarnation of Harry Potter from a fanfic called "The Ilvermorny Champion". This version of the Boy Who Lived had a bad habit of doing some awful things to those who hurt his friends and family, so the author created a character with a similar mindset whose actions are portrayed as wrong.
  • The first part of Ash's Dream Sequence in Chapter 24 has a Take That! towards Betrayal Fics that are common in the Pokémon fandom.
  • The April Fools' 2017 chapter takes its time to be a Take That! against Executive Meddling.
  • Chapter 27's end commentary has a few aimed at things that annoyed the author during the long writing period. Among them is Marvel Legacy's removal of Parker Industries and their resetting of Peter Parker's status to his everyman roots (with a snark about Tony Stark's personal reboots thrown in at Marvel's expense as well), as well as a Jimquisition video from Jim Sterling about it being moral to 'pirate Nintendo's stuff'.
  • Chapter 29's ending has one at the Harem Fanfiction tendency to not only describe the main male character as being well endowed as a selling point, but also portray other characters as the opposite, particularly ones the author doesn't like.
    • The omake of Chapter 36 takes a further potshot at the former by comparing the idea of people having 10-12 inch penises in fanfiction to having a Pichu sticking out of your crotch.
  • Chapter 29 also has Sabrina referring to the original timeline Indigo League as "utterly incompetent from the managing side".
  • Chapter 29 has a few jabs at some of the Shudo-era moralizing: when Sliggoo is shown to be terrified of Ariados, Janine notes that such a fear is not easy to pick up on, as Ariados are not common in Kanto like other predatory species such as Raticate. As such, Janine notes that going into a speech about how Ash should have known about Sliggoo's fear of Ariados would be pretentious.
  • Chapter 31 has Misty reference the anime tropes that would have Misty yell at Ash for accidentally seeing Iris naked (as is common in harem comedies). She makes particular note that doing so (particularly when aware that it was an accident, or at least unintentional on Ash's part) would make her an utterly unpleasant individual.
  • Chapter 38 takes a not-so-subtle potshot at Teen Dramas, with Blaine mentioning that he wants his granddaughter not to have any of that for as long as possible.
  • Chapter 40 has Electra Artisan, whose name and darker interests are specifically aimed at Electronic Arts, even if the Electra of Reset isn't as scummy as her Shudo cross counterpart.
  • Chapter 54 has Belladonna discussing with Ash the Insecure Love Interest trope, pointing out how often it happens in fiction and considering it ridiculous, since she believes that only the other person should decide if they are worthy of their love.

Omakes

  • One omake has a potshot against the Call of Duty series for its excessive reliance on multiplayer.
  • In an omake from the Ketchumverse, Bloodline Ash and Ranger Ash arrive in the Twilight universe, which is explicitly stated to have the rule of "everything must revolve around Bella Swan." Since the two of them don't worship the ground she walks on and can't be punished for their "transgression" by the laws of the universe, their presence causes a reality-breaking paradox which results in the place falling apart. No points for guessing what the author is trying to say about the series.
  • The first Ketchumverse Omake suggests that all the Worlds where the Pokémon Coma Theory (i.e. the entire anime post-Episode 1 is a giant hallucination while Ash is in a coma) is a thing have been taken over by 'the Ashs of Darkness' as part of a evil Multiversal Empire.
    • Chapter 30 throws another potshot at it, making some jokes at the idea of Brock being a representation of Ash's sexual urges.
  • The Omake of Chapter 27 takes potshots towards Archive of Our Own for its poor layout and excessive tags, and the abuse thereof. The author also casually admits to hating the site in the Author's Note at the beginning of the chapter. While Cross admits he would not be against a Archive version of Reset, and one did eventually come, he basically says that someone else would have to manage it.
  • Chapter 39's omake throws yet more shade at betrayal fics, with Ash outright saying that people getting replaced with robot duplicates is the only way they could make sense.

Oneshots and Expanded Universe

  • During the Whitney Oneshot, Whitney fights a Muk with one of her Miltank and harshly defeats it, stating that she'd never lose to a Muk. The Author confirms this was a potshot aimed at Ashes of the Past, though he does clarify he likes the fic overall.
  • The Author also commented during the Gary oneshot that he believes Pokémon Anime XY was better than Shudo's run.
  • The Argenta one-shot is a rather big one towards competitive battling (which in the more recent years features less and less variety, with most players using only a handful of Pokémon with the same moves), and Smogon in particular (for encouraging this mindset). Though it's softened somewhat in the end with the message that everybody should be free to choose and use their preferred Pokémon, even if it's from the strongest tiers.
  • The Falkner one-shot has a very subtle one towards the use of Legendary Pokémon in competitive battling (and most likely towards Tobias as well): when Satsuki asks Falkner what does he plan to do once he catches Ho-Oh and Lugia, he assures her that he won't take them to the Pokémon League and "use them to crush the dreams of some hapless kid half [his] age".
  • Many jokes of the first chapter of the Wild Boy For Sinnoh take potshots at Bidoof.
  • The Gladion Interlude takes some potshots at more contentious erotica series, such as Fifty Shades of Grey and Gor.
  • The Clair Oneshot has one aimed at Pocket Monsters: The Animation and the rules for gym leaders within, with Clair snarking about her possibly having a third loss in a row damaging the gym's rep, to which Yari snaps that they "don't live in some silly universe where three straight losses would lose the family gym".
  • The Tracey one-shot is a big one towards toxic criticism that ends up putting authors down instead of being helpful, though also pointing out that it is possible to take something good even out of it if you know where to look.
  • Pokémon Reset Bloodlines: The Movie - The Fanfiction has quite a few, notably one against Shipping Wars which even the embodiment of bad Fanfiction trends 'Darkern Edgier' doesn't want anything to do with.
  • The Melemele grand trial oneshot has Hau, upon seeing how uber-serious Gladion talks and acts, asks him if he's trying to get into a modern reboot movie.
  • The Gary Interlude II has one towards the All Girls Want Bad Boys trope, drawing parallels with Sakura and Ino's rivalry over Sasuke, and pointing out the foolishness of them breaking a close friendship for a boy who wasn't even interested in either of them.
