Can I get a hit?
Who you trying to get crazy with, ése?
Don't you know I'm loco?
— "Insane in the Brain"
Released in 1993, Black Sunday is Latino hip-hop group Cypress Hill's second album. Building on the success of their debut, it topped the charts and went on to be certified triple-platinum in the US. Unsurprisingly, the group's biggest hit "Insane in the Brain" comes from here.

"These tropes ain't goin' out like that":

  • As the Good Book Says...: "Legalize It" quotes Genesis 1:12:
"I have given you all the seed bearing plants on earth to use."
  • Badass Boast: As is typical of rappers, "Insane In The Brain" has Sen Dog boasting of his pen game.
Sen Dog: Punks just jealous 'cause they can't outwrite me
  • Bulletproof Vest: "Hand On The Glock" points out that a bulletproof vest is useless against headshots.
  • Continuity Nod: "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That" and "When The Shit Goes Down" both reference "How I Could Just Kill A Man" from their debut Self-Titled Album.
  • "I Want" Song: Album opener "I Wanna Get High" has the group expressing a strong desire to be stoned.
  • Instrumentals: "Lock Down (Interlude)" is the album's sole instrumental.
  • N-Word Privileges: Whether the band has them or not is a heated discussion in and of itself, but the word does get used a lot in this album regardless.
  • Near-Death Experience: B-Real gets shot in the lung but survives in "Lick A Shot."
  • Ode to Intoxication: "Hits From The Bong" extols the virtues of the bong and smoking marijuana.
I like a blunt or a big fat cone
But my double-barrel bong is gettin' me stoned
  • Officer O'Hara: From "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That":
"Gonna put a slug in Captain O'Malley"
  • Rearrange the Song: "Hand On The Glock" is this to "Hand On The Pump" from their first album.
  • Reference Overdosed:
  • Sampling:
    • "I Wanna Get High" samples Albert King's "Get Out Of My Life, Woman," "One Draw" by Rita Marley and their own "Stoned Is The Way of the Walk"
    • "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That" samples Harry Nilsson's "Rainmaker" and Black Sabbath's "The Wizard" and "Wicked World."
    • "Insane In The Brain" uses James Brown's "Say It Loud, I'm Black And I'm Proud," Sly and the Family Stone's "Life," Buju Banton's "Boom Bye Bye" and their own "How I Could Just Kill A Man"
    • "When The Shit Goes Down" uses "Grab This Thing" by The Mar-Keys, "Stratus" by Billy Cobham and "Deep Gully" by Outlaw Blues Band
    • "3 Lil' Putos" uses Lou Donaldson's version of "Ode To Billie Joe"
    • "Hits From The Bong" loops the guitar lick from Dusty Springfield's "Son Of A Preacher Man"
    • "What Go Around Come Around, Kid" uses their own "How I Could Just Kill A Man"
    • "A To The K" starts with a quote from the 1983 rap movie Wild Style.
    • "Hand On The Glock" uses EPMD's "You're A Customer."
  • Take That!: According to B-Real, "Insane In The Membrane" was meant to be a diss track towards Chubb Rock - Chubb Rock's "Yabbadabadoo" referenced "How I Could Just Kill A Man" in a way they thought was meant as an insult.
  • Your Head Asplode: From "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That", doubling as another The Three Little Pigs reference:
I'll huff and puff and blow your head off
