Recap / Phineas And Ferb Out Of Toon

Go To

Phineas and Ferb decide to make a cartoon starring themselves and their friends as superheroes. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz finds a way to use the power of dance for evil.

Tropes:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: The Dance-Inator was created by accident when Doof attempted to make an Inator that instantly dries clothing after his dryer broke. We see his clothes dancing in the closet, still sopping wet.
  • Animesque: Phineas and Ferb's cartoon "Team Improbable" takes a lot of visual cues from superhero anime and cartoon shows of the 2000s and prior.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Yes, Attack of the 50 Foot Sister was not the first time we saw Candace become gigantic. Her super villain persona, Control Freak, possesses this ability.
  • Aside Comment: After the Dance-inator hits Doof and Perry:
Doofenshmirtz: To add insult to injury, the platypus is leading.
  • Bad Liar: Phineas tells Candace that the audience loves her because she's the Big Bad, while really, the audience is booing & throwing tomatoes, meaning that they hate Candace.
  • Beyond the Impossible: According to Major Monogram, no-one has ever defeated evil while dancing. At the end of the episode Perry does just that.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Defied and lampshaded. When Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet come in, Isabella cuts Buford off when he tries to say her catchphrase "Whatcha doin'?", before she proceeds to say it.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The aliens in the Captain Implausible show speak in a language that waxes lyrical the "Gitchee Gitchee Goo" song from "Flop Starz".
    • Doof himself is singing along to the "Ready for the Bettys" song from, well, the episode "Ready for the Bettys".
  • Dance Line: Perry has a conga line with the inator, even though he's supposed to be doing the Macarena with Doof. It turns out to be a tactic to throw it off the building. Later, when the animation studio is hit by the inator, it leads the audience in a conga line out of the backyard, thus Candace's explanation of "It got up... and it danced away."
  • Delayed Reaction: When Candace attempts to call Linda, she gets Linda's voicemail, instructing her to "leave your psychotic rant after the beep". Candace then goes on to describe the cartoon Phineas and Ferb made before abruptly saying, "Hey! What do you mean, psychotic rant?!"
  • Description Cut: Pinhead Pierre says "No more pointing and laughing, kids!" right as the show cuts to Phineas, Ferb, and Lawrence pointing and laughing at the screen.
  • Evil Is Cool: Phineas and Ferb's philosophy regarding Candace getting booed by the audience.invoked
Ferb: A hero is a hero, but everybody loves a good villain.
  • Fun with Homophones:
Major Monogram: I'm sorry that we used the emergency chute, and for not telling you we had an emergency chute, but there was an emergency! Shoot!
  • Hamster-Wheel Power: The machine that converts shreds of drawings into fully-formed animation is powered by a hamster on a wheel.
  • Involuntary Dance: Dr. Doofenshmirtz attempted to create a ray that would dry his clothes after his dryer broke, but the ray instead causes anything it hits to start dancing. As Perry the Platypus tries to destroy the ray, it goes out of control and hits Doofenshmirtz and Perry, causing them to dance together.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: To add insult to injury, the platypus is leading.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Candace just looks resigned and goes to her room after she explains that the giant animation studio got up and danced away.
  • Mirrors Reflect Everything: The Dance-inator fires a laser beam at a mirror, which reflects it back at the Dance-inator, causing it to start dancing.
  • Monkeys on a Typewriter: A group of monkeys (along with other animals) are shown writing the scripts for the boys' cartoon.
  • Produce Pelting: Candace is subjected to being pelted with tomatoes when people recognize her as the Control Freak.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: The music played when Doof and Perry were hit by the Dance-inator was reused from the "Aloha Oe" concert in Leroy & Stitch.
  • Shout-Out: When Candace takes her bow, she says, "They like me! They really like me!" (Which is a common Beam Me Up, Scotty!. The actual quote was "You like me! Right now, you like me!")
  • Subverted Catchphrase: When Phineas and Ferb leave their father to work on their Big Idea, Lawrence mutters to himself that maybe Perry will watch The Pinhead Pierre Show with him.
    Lawrence: Perry?
  • Take That!: This episode seems to make a punching bag out of studio executives and S&P.
  • The Voiceless: None of the characters in Team Improbable speak, with the exception of Control Freak.
  • You Have to Believe Me!: Candace, even after everything she's tried to get her mother to believe when it comes to her brothers, realizes she can't expect Linda to believe that the animation studio got up and danced away.
    Linda: It what?
Candace: It got up and it danced away.
Linda: "It got up and danced away?"
Candace: See? It even sounds crazy when you say it. I'll be in my room.

The Power of Dance

While trying to invent a ray that would instantly dry his clothes, Dr. Doofenshmirtz inadvertently created a ray that could make anything it zaps dance uncontrollably. Unfortunately, he and Perry the Platypus end up getting zapped by it.

How well does it match the trope?
