Recap / Phineas And Ferb Ready For The Bettys

Go To

Candace and Stacy win a day with their favorite band, only to find out the band are total snobs and that they're being forced to do the band's dirty work.

At the same time, Phineas and Ferb accidentally get into Perry's lair and become secret agents. Perry has to stop them before they get hurt.

The boys, with Perry's hoverjet, get into a "mission" involving Doofenshmirtz, and coincidentally, Candace. Doofenshmirtz's invention inadvertently puts the girls' lives at stake, and boys have to "save" them (though Perry is the actual hero in the end).

After saving the bus, Perry takes care of boys and throws them out of the hoverjet. Meanwhile, the Bettys invite Candace and Stacy to sing backup with them at a Bettys concert after thinking that Candace was the one who saved their lives.

Tropes

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: There is a lot of alliteration with “Betty” throughout the episode (ie. Betty Buddy, Betty Bus, Betty Bass Guitar).
  • Alternate Catchphrase Inflection: Isabella, after Phineas and Ferb fall into her pool:
Isabella: Hi, Phineas. Seriously, Phineas, what are you doing?
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:
Phineas: Laser gun, magnet ray, cup holder...
  • Catchphrase Interruptus: Doofenshmirtz repeatedly tries to say "Curse you, Perry the Platypus", but keeps getting interrupted by the tennis ball machine shooting mops into his mouth.
Doofenshmirtz: Why did I buy so many mops?
  • The Dreaded Toilet Duty: Inverted when Candace and Stacy were tasked by the Bettys to do various chores for them. The only one that makes Stacy happy is cleaning the toilets. Played straight with Candace, who is not happy with the way the Bettys treated them and the toilet cleaning chore was the last straw for her.
  • Jerkass: The Bettys are this to Stacy and Candace, making them do menial tasks such as cleaning the tour bus and shredding their fan mail, until Candace makes them realize they shouldn't be like that.
  • Jerkass Realization: The Bettys have one when Candace calls them out on how they've been treating her and Stacy during the whole trip.
Tink: I feel like a bit of a Betty butthead.
  • Magic Brakes: The brakes on the Betty Bus don't stop working until after the bridge has been destroyed. To add insult to injury, the emergency handbrake also fails, and the autopilot on the bus cannot be disabled.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Phineas thinks Ferb put the whole secret agent thing together. Ferb tries to tell him he didn't ("Actually, I—") but is interrupted every time he tries. Eventually in the end, he gives up.
  • Radio Contest: Candace and Stacy win a radio contest to spend the day with The Bettys after being the 444rd and 4/4ths caller.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Ferb in the end when he is interrupted one last time after the boys return home wet.
  • Shout-Out:
Phineas: "Ferb. You designed this thing. Can you give me. Any more power? Excellent. We did it. Our sister's safe."
[A few scenes later, when Phineas and Ferb fall in Isabella's pool:]
Isabella: Hi Phineas. Seriously, Phineas, what are you doing?
Phineas: [imitates James Bond] That, my friend, is classified information.
  • Squee: Candace and Stacy squeal in delight three times in the opening scene.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: Since Isabella is surprised to see Phineas and Ferb in her swimming pool, she genuinely asks them, "Seriously, what are you doing?"
  • Theme and Variations: Phineas and Ferb get their own version of Perry's theme.
  • The Unreveal: We never figure out why Dr. Doofenshmirtz built the Destructinator ray in the first place.
  • Title Drop: During the song.
  • Who Is Driving?: When the Betty's bus driver comes to the back of the bus to see what's going on, Candace asks him who's driving the bus. It turns out that the bus has autopilot.
