Tropes

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: The bully Doof wants to get revenge on is called Big Black Boots Boris the Bully.
  • British Teeth: When Grandpa Reg's third jump gets cancelled, two of the bystanders watching say:
    Bystander 1: Let's go.
Bystander 2: Yeah, I've got teeth not to brush.
  • Cool Bike: Grandpa Reg's Holy Mackerel.
  • Cue the Rain: Whenever the Fishmonger's anthem is played, it causes instant rain due to its sultry sound. Phineas cranks it up a notch by reworking it into a wicked rock ballad.
  • Empathic Environment: It turns out that all of The Flying Fishmonger's attempts to jump McGregor's Gorge were rained out because his theme song was too dreary.
  • Even the Subtitler Is Stumped: Throughout the episode, Ferb must translate most of his grandfather's English slang into American vernacular. At the very end, as grandpa Reg is explaining how Phineas and Ferb fixed up his old motorcycle to let him fulfill his dream of jumping McGregor's Gorge, Ferb says he has no idea what he just said.
  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!: A newsboy attempts to distribute papers explaining what's going on to people, but as the events keep changing rapidly in real time, he gives up.
  • Extreme Close-Up: When Carl attempts to cut to a close-up of his face while delivering Perry's mission, he accidentally zooms into his eye.
  • The Faceless: All we ever see of "Big Black Boots Boris" is his legs as he kicks sand in Doof's face.
  • Irony: The bully kicks sand on Doofenshmirtz's face at several places but not at the beach.
  • Separated by a Common Language: Ferb has to 'translate' for Grandpa sometimes, although even he gets stumped at the end.
  • Storefront Television Display: While Candace is out shopping with Linda, Lawrence and Winifred, she passes a storefront TV and witnesses the ad promoting the jump of the Flying Fishmonger over the gorge in the Flynn-Fletcher backyard. Candace brings Linda back to see, but right when she does so, it quickly switches to another ad promoting pore paste, to which Linda comments Candace's pores aren't that big.
  • Stylistic Suck: The Flying Fishmonger's theme song, so much so that the song conjures up rain whenever its played.
    'e's a fishmonger an' 'e flies...
  • What Have We Ear?: Grandpa Reg does this to Ferb, but instead of a quarter, he pulls out his scrapbook, which is too large for the trick to realistically work.
