Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 47 On The Dark Side

Go To

Paperinik accompanies some members of the military to the dark side of the Moon to negotiate peace with the last few Evronians.

  • Always Chaotic Evil: Averted.A group of Evronians that survived the destruction of their homeworld tries to negotiate peace with Earth. They still leave a spy, though...
  • Bad Boss: Bats threatens to ruin a man's carrier if he forgot to leave her a change of clothes on the helicopter.
  • Batman Gambit: Paperinik and Zeron make a deal to introduce a fake virus in the Evronian computers, to create tension and discover everybody's secret meddlings that could have ruined the treaty.
  • Call-Back: Waaay back to #5 "Portrait of The Hero As A Young Duck": we finally learn how Grrodon infiltrated on Earth.
  • Computer Virus: Someone put one in the computers of the Evronians base, shutting them down and wiping out almost all their energy. The big issue is to find who did it. It was Paperinik.
  • Continuity Nod: Paperinik gives the datapack he received from Xadhoom in "Under A New Sun" to general Westcock, so that it's kept safe inside Department 51.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Zentium gets one when Paperinik ask for a room with Earth-view: "So you can see it one last time?". According to the hero he is the reason Evronians are finally developing a sense of humor.
  • Easily Forgiven: Zeleron is beat up by the heroes and taken hostage. He's still willing to defend them when they're put on trial, if only to go against Zentium.
  • Holding Hands: Surprisingly enough, when death by nuke barrage seems inevitable, Angela does this to Westcock for reassurance.
  • Grey-and-Grey Morality: Everybody does some pretty nasty stuff for fear of being tricked by the other party.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Angela tries to use Zeleron's Evrogun on him, but she's informed that they're programmed to work only in Evronian hands.
  • Hostage Situation: Paperinik and the others take Zeleron hostage counting on the fact that the other soldiers will stand down to not risk his life. However Zentium couldn't care less about him and orders his men to shoot anyway.
  • Jerkass: Angela Bats has a superiority complex to pretty much everybody, keeps on stating that the President of the United States is basically her lackey and is an ass to the people working for her.
  • Kangaroo Court: Actually averted: when the Evronians put the humans on trial for infecting their computers with a virus, they are able to defend themselves and even have a very enthusiastic lawyer in Zeleron.
  • Kill and Replace: Fridge Horror kicks in when you realize this is probably what happened to Mccoy when the Evronians switched him with Grrodon.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bug: Zentium uses one to spy on the humans. Zeleron uses one to spy on him. Mccoy sees it and is suspicious, but Bats dismisses his concerns.
  • Lethal Chef: It's more because of different biologies than ineptitude, but Evron's finest food (prepared with emotion as base ingredient,of course), are almost poison for humans. Westcock, apparently, finds it good enough to ask the recipy (only to be told that the planet of origin was destroyed).
  • Nice Guy: Zeleron is the nicest Evronian you'll ever meet: not only is he the most trusting toward the humans and the peace treaty, but he even accepts to defend them after they tried to use him as a hostage. That being said, it's implied it was mostly to get back at Zentium.
  • Nuke 'em: If they don't hear from general Westock in six hours, the Army has the order to launch ten nuclear missiles on the Evronian base.
  • Pet the Dog: General Westcock may be shown antagonistic towards Paperinik most of the time, but the beginning of the issue shows him as a loving family man.
  • Race Against the Clock: As the virus blocks the communications of the base, it's revealed that they all have six hours to live before the Army bombards the base with a barrage of nukes.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While Zeleron is a General Ripper who's be more than happy to fight humans, his superios Zeron is much more reasonable and affable than the standard Evronian. He still leaves a spy.
  • Teeth Clenched Team Work: Zeleron and Zentium don't like each other one bit and would glady get rid of each other, but had to stick together under Zeron.
  • The Reveal: Lieutenant Mccoy is actually Evronian spy Grrodon.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Lieutenant accompanying Paperinik, Westcock and Bats is called Mccoy.
    • Being this an Italian comic, we get one to the freaking The Aeneid, of all things:
Zentium:"Personally... I distrust the earthlings even when they bring gifts!"
  • The Woman Behind The Man: Angela Bats insists that she is the one doing the thinking for the President. And she'd like to remind that to you several times.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Westcock doesn't sport any of the physical exaggerations he is usually shown to have.
