Recap / Harley Quinn 2019 S 2 E 11 A Fight Worth Fighting For

Go To

With the Joker back to his old self, Harley forces him to help find Fables's story book. Meanwhile, Ivy tries to prepare for her wedding.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: After being freed from the book, Wonder Woman utters one of her catchphrases, "Thank Hera..." which has a double reference being voiced by Vanessa Marshall.
  • All for Nothing: Harley and Joker assault the Parademon hive to retrieve the book after a Parademon swiped it, only to realize they had the wrong book all along. The right one is still at the house.
  • Altar the Speed: Ivy is hell-bent on having her wedding so she can move on from the awkwardness with Harley, Parademon army be damned. When they damage a $13k wedding dress, however, she finally decides to intervene.
  • And I Must Scream: Apparently being imprisoned in a Children's Fairy Tale book for six months, can cause one to suffer a really bad case of post-traumatic stress disorder as the Justice League can attest.
Wonder Woman: Thank. Hera. That place was Hell.
Superman: They made us listen to the same songs over... and over again... [Gives a Thousand-Yard Stare]
Flash: Too soft, too hard, never just right. Never just right.
  • Book Ends: Frank the Plant and the weed dealer open and close the show from the basement of the two fat nerds from "Batman's Back, Man".
  • The Cameo: Again, Zatanna (and still practicing Adaptational Modesty).
  • Contrived Coincidence: Gordon just so happened to be flying the Bat-Plane over Ace Chemicals just after Harley pulled Joker from the acid tank, so when Batman reviews CCTV footage to track the Bat-Plane down, he spots Harley and Joker through the window.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Ivy angrily confronts Psycho to make him stop ruining her wedding plans. He mind-controls her on the spot.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The Joker spends time thinking about Bethany while he and Harley are trying to get the book back from the Parademons. He realizes that he does love her and makes a sincere apology to her when he goes back to her house. Compared to how he treated Harley before, him actually falling in love and not resorting to abuse or manipulation is a big step for him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even Darkseid, one of the DC Universe's most notorious villains, finds the use of Country Matters beyond the pale.
  • Explosive Leash: In order to get Joker to cooperate with her, Harley planted a bomb inside his head and will detonate it if he's uncooperative.
  • Freudian Excuse: Parodied and Subverted. Dr. Psycho reveals why he hates women. When he was kid, he always wanted to ride the Ferris wheel but he was too short and his mother told him to be patient and he'll big enough next time. As time goes on, he still hasn't grown big enough to ride the Ferris wheel. Then one day, the Ferris wheel collapses with people still on it. He felt satisfied watching all those people die and then decided on that day that he hates women. What any of this has to do with misogyny is not made clear; Darkseid even points out he's "not sure that tracks".
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Bethany, especially when she is angry.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Moments after announcing that even he would not use a slur like the c-word, Darkseid expresses indifference to Dr. Psycho informing him that dwarf is a slur.
  • It Works Better with Bullets: Bethany threatens Joker with a gun, only for Joker to calmly point out that he knows from their time together that she keeps it unloaded and has never actually fired it.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • "Nighthawks" Shot: A shot from Joker's flashback of when he was having milkshakes with Bethany is framed to resemble Edward Hopper's iconic painting Nighthawks.
  • Power Incontinence: The Flash accidentally runs through a door and trips after being freed from the book, as he's out of practice.
  • Refreshingly Normal Life-Choice: Joker confesses that, in-spite of how much he likes being a psychotic supervillain, he actually liked the domestic bliss he had with Sofia and her kids. By the end, he decides to have a happy medium between the two.
  • Revenge: Psycho uses the fact that Harley broke a contract with Darkseid to get Darkseid to agree to aid him in taking over Earth in exchange for her head.
  • Too Much Information: Harley has to endure Joker telling her about his relationship with Bethany while he was an amnesiac. Then Batman has to listen to the same, along with Joker tattling about Harley & Ivy's relationship situation just to humiliate Harley.
  • The Unintelligible: Like Man-Bat, the Parademons communicate in shrieks which no one but Psycho can understand.
  • Urine Trouble: One of the surveillance images Batman looks at is of a dog peeing on a man's head as he's poking it out of a manhole.
