Sharon: What? Should I get a comedy then?
Tracey: Nah, I don' fancy a comedy.
Sharon: Well what else is left Trace? No sex, no violence, no laughs. Whadju want? Adventures of a Cost Accountant?
Sharon Theodopolopodous and Tracey Stubbs trying to decide on a film to rent.

  • Date First Aired: 05/10/1991

It's Thursday night. Dorien's date has been cancelled, and Sharon and Tracey are bored. They decide to put on a video (Tracey wanted one with a single murder and no other violence). However, the VCR blows, so Dorien offers to pay for an activity weekend for the girls. Sharon is unsure about the activity on offer, said activity being hang gliding. Before they can go, however, it turns out Dorien has had an accident so the activity weekend doesn't go ahead after all.

Tropes in this episode:

  • As Himself: Ian McCaskill.
  • Book Dumb: Sharon thinks trigonometry is just geometry but brainier.
  • Brick Joke: At the start of the episode, Sharon accidentally spoils the movie she and Tracey are about to watch. At the very end of the episode, Dorien does the exact same thing.
  • Copycat Mockery: Dorien mocks an Oop North accent.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Sharon after Tracey asks her to go out and get a movie and some snacks.
Sharon: I tell ya summink Trace, this life in the fast lane's too much f'me.
  • Denied Food as Punishment: After Dorien spoils the movie the girls are about to watch, Tracey angrily snatches away her biscuit.
  • Dodgy Toupee: Sharon points out one that the actor in the film she and Tracey are watching is wearing.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Sharon only watched The Nutcracker because of a guy with a large bulge.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Dorien hates all northerners because she can't understand how people can be so plain speaking and warm hearted.
  • Fee Fi Faux Pas:
    • Sharon accidentally spoils a whole movie to Tracey, only to realise what she's done and meekly apologise.
    • Dorien makes the same mistake at the end of the episode.
  • Gasshole: Sharon farts while in Dorien's hospital room.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: One of the possible activities that the girls could have done is "Fun With Trigonometry".
  • Insane Troll Logic: Tracey doesn't want to watch a violent movie, but is okay with a murder.
Tracey: Well I don't mind a murder. Y'know, one sort o' family murder, where you just hafta look away once and you're okay for the rest of the film.
  • Is the Answer to This Question "Yes"?: Sharon asks Tracey if Dorien had her accident because of her high heels, to which Tracey asks her if Gazza plays football.
  • Layman's Terms: Dorien tells Tracey she has contusions on her gluteus maximus and Tracey is horrified, until Sharon tells her what it means is that Dorien's bruised her bum.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Sharon briefly mentions Dorien needing to get the kiss of life if she gets a cracked nail.
  • Newscaster Cameo: Ian McCaskill, a real weatherman on British TV, appears on Tracey and Sharon's TV.
  • Noodle Incident: Sharon once watched The Nutcracker just because a guy in blue tights had a large bulge.
  • One-Shot Character: Ian McCaskill.
  • Oop North: Dorien mocks the accent.
  • Rich Language, Poor Language:
    • Dorien is disgusted at the thought of using words like telly, awesome, serviette or valence.
    • Dorien forbids Sharon from using common expressions and Cockney Rhyming Slang while visiting her in the hospital.
  • Relatively Flimsy Excuse: Sharon is able to find out Dorien's injury (namely bruising her bum) by claiming that Dorien is her aunt. It's Double Subverted however when she claims that she was kidding and that she said they were mates, only for the doctor to come up the next day and reveal that Sharon actually passed Dorien off as her mother.
  • Spoiler: Sharon ends up spoiling the reveal the murderer in the movie that they're watching, which ruins the experience for Tracey.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title comes from the film The Lost Weekend.
    • Così Fan Tutte and a documentary on Alfalfa are on at the same time as the movie Tracey and Sharon are about to watch.
    • Tracey and Sharon watched The Nutcracker the previous week.
    • Sharon makes a joke about a fictional installment in the Adventures of... series of Awful British Sex Comedy films entitled Adventures of a Cost Accountant.
    • Sharon claims Darryl's ancient VHS player came from Fred Flintstone's cave.
    • Tracey mentions Gazza to Sharon.
    • Dorien briefly mentions Rosie Lee when discussing Cockney Rhyming Slang.
  • Take That!:
    • Sharon claims every American actor gets a Dodgy Toupee as they age.
    • After hearing a documentary on Alfalfa will be on, all Sharon can ask is "BBC Two is it?".
    • After seeing Dorien's garish clothing choice, Sharon asks her if she's been stood up by Prince Phillip, while Tracey asks her if she's been auditioning for Dynasty (1981).
    • Dorien can't stand northerners and finds them common.
    • Sharon tells the wisecracking video repair man to quit the Paramount City audition.
    • Dorien compares Sharon to Dot Cotton from EastEnders.
  • The Unreveal: We never get to find out what the funny smell in Tracey and Sharon's living room is.
  • Unusual Euphemism:
    • Tracey calls Dorien's boobs "thruppenny bits", while Sharon says they're more like "sixpence bits".
    • Sharon calls a fart she just did a "mince tart".
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Sharon has a fear of heights.
