Basic Trope: A character is caught naked and tries to cover up the important bits.

  • Straight: Melissa steps out of the shower and runs into her roommate, Bob. She screams and grabs a Modesty Towel to cover her shame.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Melissa can only cover herself with her hands.
    • Melissa runs around her house looking for a way in, repeatedly finding various objects to cover her naughty bits.
    • Melissa ends up naked in front of the entire school during a cheerleading performance. She covers herself with pom-poms.
    • Melissa spends the entire work nude, covering herself with whatever items she finds.
    • When she finds herself naked, Melissa grabs Bob, turns him around and hides behind him.
  • Downplayed:
    • Fully-Clothed Nudity.
    • Melissa only cares enough to cover either her breasts or her crotch, not both.
    • Melissa needs her arms free, so she just obscures her sensitive bits to a degree by crouching and hunching over as low as possible.
  • Justified: Melissa thought she was alone in the house.
  • Inverted: Melissa is walking around in a towel until she spots her Love Interest Bob … and promptly drops it with a wink.
  • Subverted:
    • Melissa screams, "Aaaah, don't look, don't look!" and covers up … her face. "I haven't got my makeup on yet!"
    • Alice's crotch is covered by something … she's currently using to masturbate.
    • Alice only has one arm, and thus she can either cover her chest or crotch, but not both.
  • Double Subverted:
    • Bob enters the room while Melissa is naked and holding a pillow such that it covers her torso. However, she's still casual and it becomes apparent the cover is unintentional. Eventually she even sets the pillow down … which finally causes her to realize it was her only cover, and she hastily hugs it, now tightly and purposefully.
    • Eventually, Alice realizes people are looking at her masturbating. With a furious blush, she drops her aid and hides her crotch.
    • Bob is right behind Alice and he uses a free arm to cover the "danger" area she's letting hang free.
  • Parodied:
    • Despite never being nude when she wouldn't want to be, Melissa always covers her chest and crotch when she gets startled. You know, just in case she got hit by The Nudifier that time.
    • Melissa just won a sports competition naked. She covers herself with her hands on the podium as all onlookers jeer and sneer at her. She tries to cover herself up with the trophy, but realises it’s transparent glass.
    • Melissa covers herself with an enlarged nude photo of herself.
    • Melissa covers herself with a large, colourful sign that reads “I’m naked! Look at me, everyone!
    • Melissa covers her front, only to realize that anyone who sees her from the back will see her bare butt, or vice versa.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Melissa is a Running Gag Fanservice Extra who always cameos mid-Naked Freak-Out. Whenever she gets A Day in the Limelight, it is shown that she usually doesn't bother trying to hide herself after the initial freak-out, but her cameos never show her past that point.
    • Several characters get caught naked. Some, like Alice and Bob, strut their stuff without a care. Others, like Melissa and Nolan, cover up.
  • Averted:
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "If you're so shy, why are you still standing there basically nude?"
  • Invoked: Melissa wants Bob to see her naked, but wants it to look like an accident.
  • Exploited:
    • It's a genuine accident, but Melissa decides to cover herself up as skimpily as possible and give Bob an eyeful rather than just leave the room.
    • Melissa, really irritated by Bob's intrusion or some other reason, attacks Bob with the towel.
  • Defied:
    • Melissa runs back out of the room. When Bob asks where she's going, she snaps, "What did you expect me to do, stand there blushing and stammering holding a diplomatically placed vase?"
    • Melissa just lets Bob look at her glory because he knows she's nude, they need to talk urgently, and there's no point hiding it.
    • Melissa wants Bob to see her naked and refuses to cover herself.
  • Discussed: "We hid all the towels, and are planning to surprise Melissa coming out of the shower. We're debating what would be the funniest objects to leave outside the bathroom door for her to cover herself with. My vote is for a large, framed photo of Melissa naked."
  • Conversed: "It's clearly not just the Moral Guardians who believe in Nipple and Dimed. Women on TV seem perfectly happy to carry on a conversation in the nude as long as they have an arm across their tits."
  • Implied: Although we get only a Shoulders-Up Nudity view of Melissa, the angle of her shoulders indicates that she has shifted her arms into this kind of position.
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama:
    • Melissa is on trial for public exposure, and her defense rests on the fact that she was covering herself up all along.
    • Melissa is naked in an apparently private place when children walk in on her, and she angsts about what the experience has done, not only to her but to them.
    • Due to her autism, Melissa doesn't even react in this way until it's too late. Much later, she feels shame after being told off for her public showing.
  • Played for Horror: Melissa's arms are barely covering her sensitive bits, which are Brain Bleach for whoever sees them.
  • Literal Metaphor: Melissa's underwear literally consists of hands.
  • Deconstructed: Melissa covers herself with objects that don't hold her bodily heat in well.
  • Reconstructed: For this eventuality, she gets thick, dense fabric objects and heating packs.

Aah! Don't look! Just go back to Hand-or-Object Underwear while I get dressed…
