Not every joke in SMG4 can be funny if you consider the events that took place after the joke first came out. Here are the following:
- The synopsis for the 2012 Halloween Special has a brief joke about Starman3 humping children (which is corrected to bringing candy to them). It’s safe to say the joke has lost all it’s charm after Starman3 got into controversy over pedophilia.
- About 4 minutes into "account loss", SMG4 is told that he is going to die, although it turns out to be a false alarm due to being mistaken for someone else. A whopping 9 years later, SMG3 went back in time to this very video and actually killed him by erasing him from existence.
- If Mario Was In Meta Runner, made to tie in to its Season 2 premiere, has Shroomy (as Masa) shoot a picture of Bob (as Lucks) while explaining MD-5’s plan to release Bob’s nudes on Twitter. Flash forward to “Fatal Error”, the Meta Runner Season 2 finale, where Masa is forced to shoot Lucks in the head right after deciding to spare his life and leave him to be arrested.
- Saiko's debut episode, "Doki Doki Mario Club" features a gag where Francis is seen protesting alongside Boopkins and Lemmy demanding that the anime company make his waifu real. At the time, it just seemed like a one-off joke. Then down the line, we learn what exactly he was willing to do to get those waifus.
- In "Mario Gets W o k e", Mario's antics lead to Axol being sucked into the Internet Graveyard, with Mario declaring that "nothing of value was lost". Funny back then, but hits a lot different now that Axol's gotten Killed Off for Real.
- And then of course there's "Mario School Club" where Bob shoots Axol during the hunting club...
- Axol is saved by Melony from the Mario recolors in the "10 Year Anniversary Special." Seems like it was only delaying the inevitable...
- Waluigi's descent into villainy during the Waluigi Arc, rivaling the Ztar in terms of evil and destructive power, all because of the constant rejection he suffered. It makes the earlier videos where Waluigi's the Butt-Monkey a lot harder to watch.
- The moments where Bob shows kindness to Boopkins (and by extension anyone) will never appear the same again after "The Mario Concert" where it's revealed that he deliberately pushed Boopkins into the well so he could save him and claim the fame for himself, and intentionally exploited his friends in "Mario and the Bob Mansion" by tricking them into burning his house down so he could make his fans pity him. After that, it'd make you wonder if he was ever being sincere.
- The skit in the 3 Million sub fan collab special where the cast gets turned into anime characters becomes this after the end of the Anime Arc, where Meggy gets turned into a animesque human girl. She already looked horrified in the skit, but she faints when she notices her new appearance.
- YouTuber SwagKirby made a video in which he discusses his distaste for Desti due to her Alpha Bitch nature being too cliche and if she ever appears again she should get Killed Off for Real. When Desti returned, that's exactly what happened, though over the course of several videos rather than a single one. He also tweeted this
the week of her death, which was referenced in a response video. Both videos have since been deleted. - One of the alternate timelines in "WHAT IF?" had SMG4's channel getting a DMCA from Nintendo. About a year later, this very premise would become the focal point of the Lawsuit Arc, with the repercussions treated far more seriously.
- On October 1st, SMG4 uploaded the episode "Goodbye SMG4" where SMG4 surrenders to Lawyer Kong and deletes his channel. About a couple hours later, SMG4's Discord and Twitter ended up getting hacked, with most of his tweets and the original Discord server getting purged in the process.
- On the subject, the events of "The Day SMG4 Posted Cringe", where SMG3 hacks his account, doesn't seem so funny now that he's dealing with someone hacking his accounts for real (albeit his Twitter and Discord, not his YouTube channel).
- "Wario Tries To Stop Himself From Dying" has the titular character stuck in a "Groundhog Day" Loop whenever he kicks the bucket thanks to Death cursing him over ice cream. With Wario, it's Played for Laughs due to its over-the-top nature, but Meggy eventually suffers a similar dilemma three years later in SMG4 Movie: Western Spaghetti, only this one is Bloodier and Gorier and almost exclusively Played for Horror to highlight just how bleak the situation is for the poor girl.
- Mario's claim of One-Shot Wren "falling off" in "Ready To Ride?" can be a little harder after considering both his backstory in the accompanying movie and his voice actor being a target of controversy of very risky stuff.
- The various videos showing the Peach's castle being destroyed:
- In Who let the Chomp Out?, the castle is destroyed at the ending because Peach forgets to turn off the stove. The ending dialogue is what kicks it.Mario: "And nothing of value was lost!"
- Mario manages to save Peach's castle from getting nuked in "Mario Goes To T-Mobile To Upgrade His Data Plan", the first video of the year 2023. Then the castle would be permanently destroyed in the "IT’S GOTTA BE PERFECT" movie later that year.
- In Who let the Chomp Out?, the castle is destroyed at the ending because Peach forgets to turn off the stove. The ending dialogue is what kicks it.
- In the song "Creative Control", there is a line that says "Cause' you're the stupidest show that I have ever seen, and if I make you entertaining, I can do anything!". A few months earlier, his voice actor criticized the dub of Lovely★Complex, leading to Discotek Media and Sound Cadence cutting all ties with him.
