- Eddie seems to have made one rule for his new Monster Roommate: "No eating people". The sign saying this appears to be the lid of a pizza box stuck to the wall. The second trailer shows Eddie hanging it up after an argument with the symbiote over his ravenous appetite for flesh.
- Venom tries to make breakfast while singing "Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off", resulting in what you would expect a symbiote cooking to be like. He then presents Eddie with his monstrosity before squeezing a bottle of ketchup onto Eddie’s shirt.Venom: Ta-Dah! Ketchup?*Eddie: 'scuse me? [Venom crushes the bottle, blasting ketchup all over Eddie]
Venom: Yummy!- Eddie's expression throughout this is more or less a half-indifferent, half-'You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!' reaction to the fact that Venom is making such a mess, implying that this isn't the first time it's happened.
- On top of all this, Venom's singing is atrocious. It's completely off beat and uses odd enunciation, with the implication that either Venom's just that bad, or he's doing it on purpose to annoy Eddie.
- Also? There are live chickens all over the apartment as well.
- When Eddie enters Mrs. Chen's store and she greets both him and the symbiote, Venom cheerfully waves with a tentacle and greets her in Mandarin. Eddie — who in the first movie couldn't speak Mandarin — unhelpfully says "He says hi."
- Mrs. Chen informs Eddie (and Venom, now that she knows about him) that their chocolate shipment will be late.Venom: NO!Eddie: We had a deal.
Mrs. Chen: What's gonna happen? You gonna stop protecting me?
Venom: I am happy to eat Mrs. Chen!Eddie: No, no, you cannot eat Mrs. Chen.
Mrs. Chen: What?
Eddie: ...Nothing. - Venom's voice is an awesomely deep as before, but this time around he sounds much more bombastic and animated as opposed to calm and threatening, now sounding like a natural upgrade from Venom's iconic 2000 voice of Daran Norris.
- The following exchange from the second trailer:
Venom: [sees Carnage] Oh, SHIT! [lets Eddie retake control of the body]Eddie: You need to come out right now!
[Carnage advances on Eddie]
Eddie: I will let you eat... EVERYBODY!
Venom: Promise?Eddie: I promise!
Venom: OH YEAHHH![He re-emerges to fight Carnage] - Both Eddie and Venom are clearly none too happy with Anne getting engaged to Dan. While Eddie tries to be a good sport and congratulate them, Venom makes Eddie smack Dan in the face, although he’s aware it’s not Eddie’s fault.Eddie: [running away] I'm so sorry!
Venom: Not sorry!Dan: Those two need some serious couples counseling.- In the Hindi dub of the trailer, Dan comments to Anne, "If you had married him, you would get a free mistress."
- In a TV Spot, after Cletus calls Eddie "a cancer to everyone who ever loved you," Venom decides to get his own back for that insult.note Venom: Rude... LET ME EAT HIM![Proceeds to grab Cletus with a tentacle and drag Eddie closer to him]
- A bit of Fridge Humour: Eddie and Venom own two chickens, Sonny and Cher, who live in the apartment with them. Although one might initially think this is for Venom to have something to snack on, Venom rejects the idea of eating the two in a TV spot, meaning Eddie and Venom own two pet chickens simply because no one can stop them. When Anne left Eddie's life, the impulse control went with her.
Film
- After Eddie chastises Venom for trying to eat Detective Mulligan, they end up fighting their way into a bathroom stall, where a woman next to them overhears their conversation. Venom's more theatrical delivery of some of his lines make it all the more hilarious.Venom: UNHAND ME!
- It's not clear that she's hearing Venom either, and her listening to only one side of the conversation is just as funny.
- During Eddie's talk with Mulligan, Mulligan brings up some of Eddie's more recent, erratic, behavior. The scene in the lobster restaurant is explicitly mentioned.
- After Eddie's first interview with Cletus, with the latter being very vague with his words, Detective Mulligan grills Eddie to try to get more answers out of Cletus about the location of his victims, which leads to this.Detective Mulligan: Keep me ahead of the curb, Eddie. Don't embarrass me! Do you understand?
Eddie: Trust me, the only scoop I'm getting today is Double Chocolate Chip.
Venom: NO! I GET BRAIN FREEZE! - Following the above-mentioned chat with Mulligan, Eddie heads home and begins writing his article on Cletus. He doesn't make it halfway through the first sentence before Venom starts making him type "dik" over and over again to get his attention.
- After helping Eddie discover where Cletus hid the bodies of his victims, a fully-transformed Venom is watching the news report on it and muses that they should be saving the day more often. Frustrated that Eddie hasn’t allowed them to eat bad guys as much as they want, they jump up in anger, and knock a big chunk of plaster off the ceiling. Immediately after this, you can see that there's a bunch of plaster missing from the ceiling in other spots, meaning that this isn't the first time Venom has thrown a tantrum like this.
- Eddie and Venom get into an argument in his apartment, that quickly turns physical.
- Venom tells Eddie to "Take [his] stuff and Get Out!" much like an angry spouse who's reached their limit. Eddie shoots back that it's his apartment.
- At one point, Eddie manages to grab hold of his motorcycle helmet and smash Venom's teeth out. Of course, it doesn't leave much of an impact.Venom: You can't win! Take a look at me. Look at the size of you. Puny![Eddie grabs onto his motorcycle helmet and tosses it at Venom, breaking a good number of his teeth]Venom: HOW DARE YOU?! [teeth grow back as he attacks Eddie once more]
- Eddie yells at Venom about how he only took Venom in because "his friends kicked him off the planet Ming Mong".
- After they separate, Eddie proceeds to watch in horror as Venom, after taking on a new host, destroys his motorcycle.
- Venom "hitching a ride" on a nearby bicyclist and Flipping the Bird at Eddie.
- Venom is shit at making breakfast.
- Just the sight of Venom, of all people, festooned with glowstick necklaces and hanging out with costumed partygoers at a nightclub, all of whom believe that his monstrous appearance is just an elaborately designed costume. He even interrupts the club's singer (Little Simz, as herself) mid-performance to deliver a big speech to his fellow partiers, which he caps off by dropping the mic.
- Said speech is also rather funny in context: Venom comments how "Eddie was wrong" and "kept [him] hidden because he was ashamed" even though the crowd loves him, and how they need to "stop the cruel treatment of aliens". The crowd evidently believes he is talking about serious issues like immigration and queer rights, even though Venom is actually being very literal.Little Simz: Well, that's a tough act to follow.
- Someone in the crowd compliments his "costume". Venom responds, "Thank you, one person!"
- Said speech is also rather funny in context: Venom comments how "Eddie was wrong" and "kept [him] hidden because he was ashamed" even though the crowd loves him, and how they need to "stop the cruel treatment of aliens". The crowd evidently believes he is talking about serious issues like immigration and queer rights, even though Venom is actually being very literal.
- Mrs. Chen getting angry when Eddie calls her old:Mrs. Chen: I am 39.
Venom: And I am Barry Manilow! - Mrs. Chen proves to be a compatible host for Venom, as seen when Anne attempts to coax her into bringing Venom out.
- Specifically, when Anne starts stroking his ego by telling him how hot he is:
- After busting Eddie out of the police station, Venom demands an apology from him, with Anne serving as the messenger.Eddie: Alright, let's go!
Venom: I'm not talking to him!Anne: Well, he doesn't want to come out.
Eddie: What-what do you mean? We-we have to leave right now 'cause Cletus is gonna wipe the city out.
Venom: We're not doing shit until he apologizes.Anne: So, he's looking for an apology. Look, I know that amends aren't really your thing, but...
Eddie: An apology? What, like, as in right... right now, an apology?
Venom: I need him to beg.Eddie: Fine, I will be the bigger of us.
Venom: I will always be the bigger of us... but go on.Eddie: What did he say? What is he saying?
Anne: He said he's listening very sincerely.
Eddie: All right, listen to this. I am sorry.
Venom: Not the right tone.[Anne shakes her head]
Eddie: I'm sorry.
Venom: Nope.[Anne shakes her head again]
Eddie: I-I am sorry.
Dan: [watching from the car] So weird...
Eddie: I'M SORRY!
Anne: I don't know why you're shouting at me.
Eddie: Well, 'cause... Okay, well, fine. I was a... I was a loser before I met you.
Venom: Yep. That's right.Eddie: And, uh... and now I am someone. All right? You made me special.
Venom: [smugly] Damn right!Anne: Why don't you put a cherry on it?
Eddie: A cherry on that? Right. Um... I'm... I-I am truly very sorry for everything that I said.
Venom: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.Eddie: Everything that I did not say. Everything that I did, you know...
Venom: Mm-hmm.Eddie: And probably everything that I-I did... I did not... I did not do.
Venom: Mm...Anne: Yeah, he's thinking.
Venom: Hmm…Eddie: Come on. Come on...
Venom: ...Okay!- After accepting Eddie's apology, Venom rejoins with Eddie, resulting in the latter and Anne hugging. Venom tries playing matchmaker one more time, urging Eddie to kiss her, which leads to this.Eddie: Are you gonna... are you gonna kiss me now?
Anne: [mortified] No!
Eddie: No?
Anne: Oh, God, I'm never doing that again. God, well, maybe never. I don't know! Honestly, it's really fun.
- After accepting Eddie's apology, Venom rejoins with Eddie, resulting in the latter and Anne hugging. Venom tries playing matchmaker one more time, urging Eddie to kiss her, which leads to this.
- Carnage gives a death threat to his technical "father", Venom... confusing the priest right next to them.Carnage: There you are! Death to you, Father!Priest: No!
Carnage: [patiently] Not you, Father. [points at Venom] YOU, Father.- Venom’s reaction to said threat.Venom: OH, SHIT![retreats back into Eddie]
Eddie: Woah, where are you going? What're you doing?
Venom: This is much worse than I thought! That is a red one! - And this is followed by the notoriously possessive Venom declaring that Annie will get over it, and "We never liked her anyway!"
- Venom’s reaction to said threat.
- After Eddie coaxes Venom out, Shriek quickly uses her power to incapacitate them... just as Carnage lunges to attack Venom. After Carnage knocks her aside, much to Cletus' horror, Venom isn't above snarking at them.Venom: Marriage trouble? Already?!
- And right after that...Venom: Time to die!Eddie: That's the spirit!
Venom: I mean us! We are going to die!
- And right after that...
- Venom with the perfect Pre-Mortem One-Liner before disposing of Cletus. What sells it is the somber, resigned stance Eddie has while in control, apologizing to Cletus. Then he passes the wheel back to Venom, where he proceeds to snap to attention and reveal he could not care less about the tragedy at play.Venom: FUCK this guy! [chomps his head off]
- When all is said and done, Venom feels that he and Eddie should part ways, since it's him they want. Eddie disagrees, which leads to this.Eddie: Well, my dear Sancho... facts are the enemy of truth.
Venom: What does that even mean?Eddie: ... Ummmmmm, yeah. Yeah.
Venom: ON THE RUN!Eddie: That too. - The post-credits scene:
- Both Eddie and Venom watching a Spanish soap opera and both are getting into it.
- When both Eddie and Venom somehow end up in the MCU, Venom is immediately freaked out by a towel folded into the shape of a swan.Venom: What the hell is that?!Eddie: Oh that-that's just a towel.
- The room owner enters the scene and just casually asks Eddie "Dude, what are you doing in my room?" Eddie's response is to simply shrug his shoulders.
- Eddie's body language also betrays that he is so done with all of this confusion with Venom that he doesn't even bother trying to make sense of things.
