Authors, and Websites

  • Recommended by VerMa
  • Comments: Another great Scooby-Doo author. His mysteries are well-thought, the culprits aren't obvious (he had me fooled more than once) and the style is full of humour. He works on the standard continuity (seeing that if the gang's hometown is mentioned, it's always Coolsville) but tweaks it upon his needs.

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

The Insects from Shaggy; or, The Last Testament of Daphne Pickman by John Biles

  • Recommended by HeartBurn Kid, Dame-Amaryllis
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: My name is Daphne Pickman. Perhaps you've seen some of the fictionalized versions of our adventures. Don't believe them. The truth is far more horrible.
  • Comments: Scooby-Doo reinterpreted in the style of the Cthulhu mythos.

The road this far can't be retraced by silverpenlight

  • Recommended by Blossom Morphine
  • Status: Complete
  • Warning: Dead link
  • Pairings: Fred/Daphne, Velma/Daphne
  • Synopsis: Velma saved them in the end. She knew she did, she wasn't shy about it. Mentions of Fred/Daphne, Velma/Daphne.
  • Comments: Based on this shirt, the story has the gang struggle to survive in a world where werewolves, zombies, and vampires have overrun the world and there are no more scooby snacks to be had.

Scooby Dooby Doo Where Are You? by Brendan Jones (Rated R)

  • Recommended by Lady Nomad
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Fred/Daphne, some Daphne/Velma
  • Synopsis: Velma Dinkley writes about how she had met up three friends and adopt a dog and travel 60s America in a psychedelic van.
  • Comments: This is a very deconstructive take on the Scooby Doo series. The descriptions were there and you really felt like you were in the 60s. It showed how the Scooby Doo gang would have existed in the real world.
    • Warning: Drug abuse.

Vietnam by Rorschachs Blot

  • Recommended by templar627
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: none
  • Synopsis: Oneshot Shaggy goes to the funeral of an old friend and reveals a bit of his past.
  • Comments: This is one of my favorite one-shots because it shows why Shaggy is the way he is.

Outwitting A Wide Wraith

  • Recommended by CoolyJack
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The gang head off into the town of Yumfields to enter Daphne into a Big Beautiful Woman contest (yes, you heard that right), but their vacation is cut short by the ghost of former model Delilah Dandy. Cue the same old Mystery Inc. shenanigans with a big twist.
  • Comments: Although in theory, one can easily see this as a story made of nothing but fanservice for chubby chasers, you can also just as easily go past that and see it as your better-than-average Scooby-Doo mystery that's just as good as a normal episode. All of the tropes seen in your average episode are here at full force, and Daphne's weight gain actually makes for some funny parts in the story. Overall the comedy and the lack of discrimination against bigger people make this fic worth a read.

Scooby-Doo and the House of Monsters

  • Recommended by Boatmurdered
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Basic idea is that after inspiring tons of other meddling kids there are no more mysteries left for the gang to solve so they drift apart. Years later they receive a letter from Shaggy who's taking up a teaching job at Miss Grimwood's. Seizing upon the excuse to reunite they journey down there, but it turns out to be something much, much worse than they could have ever imagined. Scoooby Doo crossed over with Cthulu Mythos.

Disk Mania by RockSunner

  • Recommended by Haazen
  • Pairings: none
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A back-story for all the mystery groups in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
  • Comments: Explains many details that were left unexplained in the series. Tells the fates of all the groups before and after the end.
  • It has its own tropes page, here.

Old Meets New by RockSunner

  • Recommended by CMR Rosa
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: This is a Scooby-Doo to Scooby-Doo cross-over in which the original Mystery Inc. SDWAY through WNSD comes to Crystal Cove. Spoilers to the end of SDMI.
  • Comments: A great crossover between the old Scooby Doo and the new one.
  • It has its own tropes page, here.

The Mystery Machine by Symbolist

  • Recommended by daisyq444222, CommanderVisor
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "Rust coats the old van, the tires are flat, the windows shattered or scraped, and there are only hints of the blue and lime paint that used to decorate the antique automobile. He runs his hand along the windshield and his palm is coated in dust." Oneshot
  • Comments: Poignantly written; shows the gang meeting up years after the end of the show.

Realizing Love by macyluvsu

  • Recommended by ladyofthelibrary
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Velma is kidnapped, and it's up to the rest of the gang to find her before it's too late.
  • Pairings: Shaggy/Velma, Fred/Daphne
  • Comments: Takes place sometime during What's New, given that the villain (Red Herring) was a major player in Pup, which was implied to be the backstory for What's New. Despite the title, the story is mostly friendshipping with the romance being light and sweet as well as the Shaggy/Velma being portrayed as having started as a strong crush as kids that grew into something more.

The First Investigation by VerMa

  • Recommended by ladyofthelibrary
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The story of the first serious investigation of The Scooby-Doo Detective Agency which years later became Mystery Inc. The action is set in a slightly altered A Pup Named Scooby-Doo universe.
  • Comments: An interesting take on how the Pup version of the gang met and became friends as well as a unique first case for the mystery magnets we know and love. Has a sequel, Their Meddling Parents (yes; you read that right) where Daphne's kidnapping leads to the gang's parents showing just where their kids got their skills from.

In Which Shaggy Feels Pretty by StarShineDC

  • Recommended by idratherbeloislane
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Daphne/Shaggy
  • Synopsis: Daphne walks in on Shaggy having a rather... personal moment.
  • Comments: A well-written fic about Shaggy and Daphne connecting over a love of fashion. Contains crossdressing.

Broken Circle By LuckyLadybug

  • Recommended by Catcher In The Wry
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A sequel to the live action film, with a different take on the villain.
  • Comments: Well written and a great antidote to the end of the live action film.

Count Your Blessings byDixie Darlin'

  • Recommended by Catcherinthewry
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover: With Wreck-It Ralph
  • Synopsis: After reading some hurtful comments about herself on the internet, Vanellope takes a drive to clear her head. She ends up running into the world's most hated cartoon character, and the two of them learn together to count their blessings.
  • Comments: Honestly, this fic is good. There are some sad parts, but it ends on a funny note and is well-written throughout.

Who is Velma Dinkley? by Lupus Malum

  • Recommened by Google Plex Power
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After a trap goes wrong, Velma finds herself in a hospital bed with amnesia. Struggling with her identity, Velma retires from mystery solving. But the gang can't solve them without her. Will a haunted house contain the key to unlocking Velma's memory, or will she be left wondering; 'Who is Velma Dinkley'?
  • Comments: It's told in second person. It's chapters are short but meaningful, the concept is intriguing and the writing is haunting.

101 Ways to Kill Scrappy by LM Simpson

  • Recommended by Decaf Grub 47393
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The Scooby Doo Gang is brainwashed into killing Scrappy in many different ways.
  • Comments: A very satisfying read for those that hate Scrappy Doo, this story is what a good Revenge Fic should aim for.

Velma Dinkley's Beginning by Darkgirl10

  • Recommended by Tito Mosquito
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The new girl is bullied by a group of girls. She takes revenge on them, but soon gets in deeper trouble when her hangout gets a vist by two very unwelcomed guests. Will she die? Or will her new found friends save her? This story contains Friendship, Bullies, And much Drama! Part 2 coming soon
  • Comments: So far, a nice Origin Story that focus on Velma's growing relationship with future members of Mystery Incorporated, despite the hardship she's experiencing. It features a Shout-Out to a certain John Hughes movie.

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Shall We Dance by bijoukaiba

  • Recommended by: Zarius
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Daphne/Shaggy
  • Synopsis: Daphne is left without a date for the valentines' day dance...and then she bumps into Mr. Rogers...
  • Comments: A few spelling issues aside, this is a very enjoyable story that plays about with an underappreciated pairing in Scooby-Doo fanon, keeping everyone in character and ends in them opting to take things slow rather than rush into anything. Was reviewed by The Fanfic Critic in 2011.

Time Heals by The Grim Writer

  • Recommended by: WilliamShakesman
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Daphne/Shaggy
  • Synopsis: Set after Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, Shaggy lies awake one night, contemplating everything normal and paranormal that has happened in his young life. Memories begin to haunt the beatnik, memories ranging from simpler days of driving around the country in a brightly painted van solving mysteries, to more recent days spent catching ghosts with the love of his life...
  • Comments: A bittersweet story that focuses on the character relationships with plenty of references.
