Scootaloo has a bit of a problem. Her mother is embarrassing, but not for who she is. Rather, it's because of what she is.

A My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfiction written by Richardson. It can be found here. There are also two other stories by the same author set in this universe, titled For I Have no Friends, and Must Scream and Tales from the Scootaverse.

Sadly, was cancelled by the author, citing the story's fanon impossible to reconcile with later canon revelations whilst still maintaining the same feel and direction.

Tropes In This Fiction

  • Alien Geometries: Celestia's first knitting project went very, very wrong.
  • Bribe Backfire: Flim and Flam attempt to pay off Eaglehoof. Doesn't work.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Played for Laughs with Cadance after Shining Armor's little misunderstanding. She's fully aware of the truth of what happened, but uses it as an excuse to playfully tease her boyfriend and to "save" him from Luna when it's convenient to Scootaloo.
  • Decadent Court: Before Nightmare Moon's ascension and banishment, most of the nobility was like this. Celestia did some major housecleaning afterward; in present times, only a few truly problematic ponies remain.
  • Death Glare: Seems 'the glare of Kindness' is actually linked to the Elements, and Celestia is still capable of it even after all these years.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Played for Laughs; immediately following the Summer Sun celebration, Celestia notes that her plan to save her sister could have been a little more well thought out.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": "Uncle", the old shopkeeper.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: It's heavily implied that Luna is in reality Celestia's daughter (and thus Scootaloo's half-sister) instead of her sister. Whether Luna has never known this fact her entire life or somehow lost the knowledge of it is not known, as is the reason why Celestia is keeping such an enormous secret.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Trixie is unwilling to risk the easy route of being unpetrified due to Celestia's stance on Cockatrice victims. Celestia's stance on Cockatrice victims is due to her not reading Starswirl's last journal in which he figured out how to unpetrify them using the EoH, because of the regret involved in the events surrounding it. Said events include Luna's fall, in which she used a corrupted spell from the book to become Nightmare Moon. Luna fell because she became emotionally isolated due to machinations of the royal court after her brother Starswirl died. Starswirl died of a broken heart after he was forced to Mercy Kill/Shoot the Dog his wife. His wife suffered a fate worse than death because of a cockatrice unleashed in an assassination attempt on her husband and his family when they started putting right what had gone wrong in the land that would become Equestria. And according to Luna (and some nations outside Equestria) the cataclysm that reduced pre-unification Equestria to the state it was in was directly caused by the inaction of Celestia at a critical point. Whoops.
  • Heel Realization: Blueblood has one when he recognizes a visitor as the pony version of mr. Morden.
  • Home Made Sweater From Hell: Almost literally, in that Celestia's attempts at knitting warp space and make ponies that look at them sick, however the end result is pretty cool, in Scoot's own words
  • Insistent Terminology: Luna uses 'We' instead of first person due to having partially fractured mentally during her banishment, resulting in her suffering from a relatively benign and controlled Multiple Personality Disorder. She also insists on calling Celestia 'Tia', no matter how hard Celestia asks her not to.
  • Literal-Minded: Luna doesn't understand that firing somepony doesn't involve actual fire.
  • Living Lie Detector: Thanks to her connection with the Element of Honesty, Luna is able to tell whether or not someone is lying to her.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Luna didn't take the passing of her mortal brother well at all.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Between a noble court magician and Princess Luna.
  • Me's a Crowd: Celestia is able to project a very convincing illusionary double of herself, which she uses to appear like she's fully attentive at boring board meetings.
  • Mithril: Luna's material of choice when forging is an alloy of mithril, adamantine and vibranium.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Going to Sugarcube Corner is apparently an epic battle.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Once she learns of its existence, Luna really likes coffee.
  • Physical God: Starswirl apparently had the opportunity to ascend to "alicornhood" but refused, likely because he'd lost his wife to a cockatrice and didn't want to live forever. Both Scootaloo and Trixie have the same potential, due to using magic and other abilities they rightly shouldn't have.
  • The Prankster: Scootaloo. Luna happens to be quite fond of tricks as well.
  • Properly Paranoid:
    • Celestia has people ready to kill her if she were to pull a Face–Heel Turn, and others to keep her from that.
    • Also, Blueblood, of all people. Not only he is one of the people tasked to kill Celestia in case of necessity and keep her happy to avoid that necessity, he has plans for Twilight Sparkle too.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • During Celestia vs. Knitting, Luna's angry rant isn't triggered by the fact that the nobility who helped drive her to madness was never disbanded, or that her sister allowed her to be basically forgotten and reduced to a foal's tale. No, what grinds her gears most is that she let some madpony USE HER FORGE.
    • A much more darker point came after Celestia banished Nightmare Moon. After years of repeatedly going against her primarily Element (Kindness), she finally snaps when a noble brags about helping defeat Nightmare Moon and starts beating anyone within range to death.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Luna initally assumes this of Scootaloo, and has to be reassured otherwise. She also thinks that they're intended to replace her lost lover; again, this isn't the intention.
  • Secret-Keeper: In a sense. During Celestia vs. Knitting, Fluttershy is let in on how Celestia disguises herself as Sunbeam; however, she's also told that Sunbeam is a seperate pony who Celestia switches places with regularly, instead of the full truth.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Scootaloo's introduction to her auntie involves her walking across the ceiling with suction cups, ala a certain Ask a Pony blog.
    • "She seems to be more caffeine than mare now. Twisted and jittering."
    • Celestia also mentions that Luna once got her face covered with alfalfa sauce.
    • Word of God hasn't confirmed this one yet, but the fact that Luna has a magma-powered forge and warns Scootaloo against exploring the castle cellars on her own has led SpaceBattles to conclude that she set the Hidden Fun Stuff loose in her big sister's basement. Whether or not Canterlot also has a Fuck The World lever is also unknown as yet.
    • The oldshopkeeper introduced in the second half of Celestia vs. Knitting is known simply by his nickname 'Uncle', has a collection of animal talismans, and Dope Slaps ponies to keep them in line.
    • Pinkie Pie's siblings and father are named Inkie, Blinkie and Clyde.
    • There's a pony version of Mr. Morden going around in Canterlot, complete with 'associates'. While Blueblood was Genre Savvy enough to slam his door in his face and run to Twilight for help, they still have found someone to manipulate.
  • Tough Leader Façade: Celestia knows how much her little ponies look up to her, and has issues with any sort of mistakes she makes.
  • We Are as Mayflies: The problem with Physical Goddesses having close connections with mortals are repeatedly touched upon. Blueblood specifically laments how little time he gets to spend with his auntie, knowing that their time together is limited.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: An elderly shopkeeper comments on Scootaloo's purple eyes, implying that he can tell who her mother is from their distinctive shade.
  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: Celestia literally says this about trusting Twilight to figure out how to use the Elements herself.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!:
Luna: "SURELY, THOU JESTETH WITH US!?!"
