A Man Like Him...Is A Teacher?! is a Crossover fanfiction between John Wick and Blue Archive by BeiYang_1

Once the deadliest assassin in the criminal underworld under the High Table, John Wick is given another chance; another life in the city of Kivotos as an advisor to the Federal Investigation Club known as SCHALE. Finally free from being hunted down by the Table, he now uses his honed skills to solve the issues plaging the student of the city and maybe finally leave his bloody past behind.

Originally an thread in SpaceBattles.com, it has since been officially moved by the author to AO3.

As the fic takes place post-Chapter 4, spoilers for the entire film series will be UNMARKED.

This fanfiction provides examples of:

  • Action Prologue: The prologue drops right in the middle of the tutorial battle to retake the SCHALE club house from Yuuka's perspective. This is followed by the sheer ass-kicking delivered by the Baba Yaga onto the delinquents.
  • A.K.A.-47: Many of the firearms in Kivotos are obvious counterparts to real-world gun brands and models; usually an anagram of the brand name followed by a backwards model designation number.
    • The list of guns Sora goes though at John at Angel 24 has a few good examples:
      • The first gun John picks is a "Keckler and Hoch L30P" - a parody of his signature Heckler & Koch P30L pistol used throughout the films.
      • Solt 1191 = Colt M1911.
      • NF Seven Fivenote  = FN (Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal) Five-seveN pistol.
      • Big Bauer 226P/228P = SIG Sauer P226/P228.
    • In Chapter 6, John loots a 'Wintermountain A1M rifle'; an obvious play on Springfield Armory and the M1A rifle, a civilian semi-auto only version of the Vietnam War-era M14 battle rifle.
  • Apologetic Attacker: While on the run from Ako's Gehenna Disciplinary Committee, John disarms an operative and apologizes right before blasting her in the face with her own shotgun.
  • Badass Normal: Despite lacking the protection of a halo, Mr. Wick still manages to effortlessly plow through hordes of violent armed thugs with the power of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will.
  • Berserk Button: Upon being called by his old nickname, "Баба-Яга" ("Baba Yaga") by a ex-Red Winter delinquent, he promptly fires a round next to her ear and warns her to never call him by that name again.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Wakamo explosively comes to her beloved Sensei's aid when the Gehenna Disciplinary Committee under Ako's orders has John cornered in Chapter 13.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Many characters including John himself often bid each other farewell with the phrase, "Be seeing you".
  • Bulletproof Vest: Retaining the special bulletproof Continental-made jacket as a sample, John has since slightly upgraded them with more advanced materials courtesy of Millennium Science School.
  • Call-Back:
    • While the first password for the Shittim Chest follows canon, the second password is hinted with Koji's quote, "A good death can only come after a good life": the answer being the words exchanged between John and Caine before their final duel in Chapter 4:
"Those who cling to death, live."
"Those who cling to life, die."
    • The first order of business John formally requests of Vice-President Rin for SCHALE is guns. Lots of guns.
    • John purchases his first firearm from Angel 24 in a sequence reminiscent of his meeting with the The Sommelier in Chapter 2, albeit a lot less professional. The first gun he tries to buy is an Ersatz of his favoured H&K P30L handgun.
    • John sparing Kayoko and her crew from being arrested at the Black Market district as a form of "professional courtesy", one outlaw to another.
    • As the Foreclosure Task Force discuss options for the bank heist, John recalls the occasional times he took contracts with a certain group of professional bank robbers.
    • The SCHALE lounge is named "Charon's Café" - in honour of the now-deceased concierge of the New York Continental, and a loyal friend of John.
    • John likens his encounter with Ako's Gehenna Disciplinary Corps with Ares in the catacombs under the D'Antonio estate.
  • Church of Saint Genericus: John is established in this canon as Roman Catholic and visits Trinity to engage in some personal prayers, even if it doesn't exactly align with the faith practiced by the Sisterhood of Trinity. Sister Mari later informs John that the only spiritual goal of Trinity's churches is to only venerate past saints instead of a specific holy diety like mainstream Christianity.
  • Close-Range Combatant: John is unafraid to use a wide range of physical martial arts to disorient opponents as most Kivotos students rely heavily on their guns and consistently blindsided by his close-range prowess.
  • Commonplace Rare: Gold (at least compared to real-life) is apparently an exceedingly rare metal in Kivotos. Jaws from everyone get floored whenever John flashes a Continental coin in an attempt to pay for common commodities. Sora from Angel 24 notes that the one coin she saw could have bought her entire store's current inventory and then some. Even Sisterhood member Mari thinks a single coin is far too much for a humble church donation.
  • Cold Sniper: John takes an overwatch position with a newly-acquired marksman rifle and provides cover fire for the Foreclosure Task Force to safely escape their bank heist.
  • Covered with Scars: Hasumi, Yuuka and Shun manage to sneak a peek at Wick-Sensei training in his SCHALE quarters and notice the plethora of scars over his heavily tattooed body, a reminder of how much combat he had endured over the course of four films.
  • Deflector Shields: John is gifted a personal hi-tech wristwatch made by the Engineering Department of Millennium Science School that produces a hexagonal forcefield similar to Yuuka's EX Skill.
  • The Dreaded: Thanks to the power of social media, footage of John's debut battle in retaking the Sanctum Tower has put the fear of God into the troublemakers and delinquents of Kivotos. Those that ignore it learn the hard way that their latest halo-less teacher is someone not to be messed with.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • While visiting Millennium Science School, John is introduced to Seminar President Rio even before the beginning of the Abydos Foreclosure Task Force story arc.
    • A lost Ibuki drags Wick-Sensei into an impromptu meeting with the Pandemonium Society long before he ever comes into contact with the Prefect Team. A paranoid Ako and her Disciplinary Corps attempts to kidnap him later that very evening precisely for this reason.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Religion: The main churches of Trinity and Catholic Churches from John's world are similar enough for John to comfortably light a church candle for his beloved Helen. Sister Mari is impressed with his knowledge of religion in general and wishes to hear more about Catholic Churches from Wick-Sensei's world when he has the time.
  • Fingore: Discussed. Yuuka initially freaks out upon seeing his missing finger when John offers a handshake to Seminar President Rio. John lies by saying that he lost it in an accident long ago, not ready to divulge the true circumstances of the missing digit to an innocent soul.
  • Foreign Cuss Word: An ex-Red Winter student with the Kata-Kata Helmet Gang swears in Russian, "Блять" (blyat) when being hunted down by John.
  • Internal Reveal: John ended up revealing to Hoshino that he used to be a hitman and how he regret trading away his finger and wedding ring and how it amounts to nothing, trying to draw parallel to her dealings with Kaiser.
  • Mook Horror Show: The Kata-Kata Helmet Gang is visited by the Baba Yaga after their failed attempt at taking the Abydos School Annex. Their encounter is written from their perspective, as they witness him cutting down their numbers in the dark, unable to see the perpetrator until the final delinquent is held at gunpoint and interrogated by the man who effortlessly took her friends down.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: John straight-up refuses the Pandemonium Society's petty request for SCHALE to help defeat their long time rivals, the Gehenna Prefect Team. Naturally Makoto doesn't take it very well - in fact, she is rendered catatonic from such a blatant challenge to her (overinflated) authority.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: John, a normal human finds himself dragged around Gehenna Academy by the Pandemonium Society's Ibuki, which re-illustrates to him the sheer difference in physical strength between him and the students of Kivotos.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Wick leads the Foreclosure Task Force on their first mission against the Kata-Kata Helmet Gang with this gem.
John Wick: Lock and load. Class begins now.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: On his second trip to the Black Market District, John immediately picks up something was wrong when the streets suddenly become eerily quiet. He is ambushed afterwards by Ako's Disciplinary Committee.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Even in Kivotos, he still goes out of his way to find suitable replacements for his favorite Italian-style suits. He eventually enlists the help of Trinity General School for their gifted tailors and Millennium Science School for advanced bulletproof material for the suit's "tactical" lining.
  • Shout-Out
    • John recalls the times he participated with the PAYDAY 2 crew and their heists.
    • He befriends a shady robot lawyer by the name of Paul Badman on his first visit to the Black Market District.
  • Starts Stealthily, Ends Loudly: The Stygian Bank heist is conducted in this manner due to Mr. Wick's previous experience with a certain crew. Shiroko and John first infiltrate the bank's security wing, dispatching staff and disabling the bank's surveillance systems. Afterwards, the rest of the crew plus Hifumi go loud on the bank floor and later during the escape.
  • Throwing Your Gun at the Enemy: John continues to do this to disorient, then close the distance with his enemies whenever he runs out of ammo.
  • Trick Bullet: Sora offers John chocolate-scented 9×19mm rounds (as opposed to edible chocolate 9×19mm rounds) on sale. Apparently scented ammunition is a popular fad amongst the Kivotos population looking to be rid of the typical sulphurous stench after firing their weapons.
