Main Cast

    The Protagonist
It's - you're my best friends, you know?

Never given any official name or appearance, The Protagonist is a high school student and one of the four main characters in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen.

The Protagonist is not as eccentric as some of their friends, is a little lazy at times and is unmotivated at school though is nonetheless a foundation in their friend group. They care a great deal about the wellbeing of their friends, acting (depending on the player’s choices) as a support and listening to their problems. They aren’t afraid to take responsibility and make tough calls despite their personal hangups, which often sees them taking burdens onto themselves.

  • The Faceless: The Protagonist's face is never seen, even in the C Gs that otherwise include the entire cast.
  • Foil: For Gabriel. The Protagonist is unmotivated and lazy when it comes to their academics but is good at solving problems on the spot in tense situations and is the emotional centre of the group. Contrast to Gabriel who is well organised, happy to lead and the one to prepare and come up with most of the plans, preferring to plan ahead of time.
  • The Heart: Can be this for the group depending on the player’s actions. They’ll frequently check in on all their friends, helping them through their personal struggles.
  • Not a Morning Person: Though not as notorious for it as Victoria.
  • No Name Given: The Protagonist has no official name, only the one that the player gives them.
  • Player Character: They're the point of view character for the story.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bread. Has an obsession over it to the point that characters tease them over subsisting on nothing but bread.

    Gabriel

Ha ha, stressful? The camping trip? Are we thinking of the same thing?

Simply known as Gabriel, this high school student is one of the four main characters in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen. Always seen in his signature red T-shirt and black jeans, Gabriel sports an unusual hairdo with an iconic tuft at the top of his head. His eyes are brown. At 178cm tall, he towers above Hannah but barely tops Victoria.

Gabriel is the level-headed leader of the pack. Cool, calm and collected, he can be relied upon in seemingly any situation. He prioritises the wellbeing of others and strives to make ethical choices. In conversation he seems to be quite independent, not wanting to burden the player with his troubles. Some persistent probing will reveal that Gabriel has self-doubts when it comes to his love life.

  • Foil: For The Protagonist. Gabriel is well organised, happy to lead and the one to prepare and come up with most of the plans, preferring to prepare well in advance. Contrast to The Protagonist who is unmotivated and lazy come their academics but good at solving problems on the spot in tense situations and is the emotional centre of the group.
  • In Love with Love: The root of Gabriel’s relationship problems is that he is in love with the idea of love, rather than of finding a partner who is right for him.
  • The Leader: A Level-headed type. He's the person constantly making plans, organising everyone and their trips together. Once Kalnash shows up he's the person to try and keep everyone calm and look for solutions.
  • Idiot Hair: Though despite the hair he's probably the most level-headed and responsible of the cast.
  • Nice Guy: Gabriel genuinely loves helping out his friends and doing things for other people, often at cost to his own resources and time.
  • Think Nothing of It: Gabriel’s default response to anyone thanking him for any of the events he organises or funds.

    Victoria V. Valentine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tmdolk_victoria.png
I’m not exaggerating when I say that literally every idea that’s ever been made before this point is worse than this one!

Victoria V. Valentine is a high school student and one of the four main characters in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen. Sporting her iconic sailor outfit, cape and baseball bat, Victoria exudes an aura of aggressive rebellion. She has several piercings, including multiple earrings and a nose ring, and is frequently portrayed as tough-speaking and thuggish. Her eyes are blue. At 176cm tall, she is only just under Gabriel’s height.

Victoria is the muscle of the group. Wild and unpredictable, she would much rather attack a physical problem head-on than pussyfoot around it. Anything involving an extended effort, such as doing schoolwork, is an absolute deterrent for Victoria. Extended conversations will reveal her hidden insecurities and that she isn’t always as tough as she seems.

  • Alliterative Name: Victoria V. Valentine
  • Berserk Button: Harming her friends. In particular if Hannah is ever killed.
  • The Big Girl: She’s the most physically capable of the group and the first to jump in and threaten violence or break into somewhere. The other characters - somewhat jokingly - agree she’d be able to beat them up.
  • Book Dumb: Spends most of her time skipping school and struggles to make even passing grades when she does attend.
  • Dumb Muscle: Victoria tends to solve problems by directly confronting them and tends not to think about the consequences of doing so.
  • Fiery Redhead: She’s quick to anger, head-strong and confrontational.
  • Foil: For Hannah. Victoria tends to be loud and confrontational while Hannah is shy and not very confident in herself.
  • Genre Refugee: Victoria looks like a character from a shonen manga, and would probably be a lot happier in one than the character-based horror she belongs to.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She doesn’t take criticism or insults very well and it’s quite easy to provoke her. As Kalnash does on multiple occasions.
  • Japanese Delinquent: Her seifuku with a coat worn over it, carrying a bat everywhere, and her lack of respect towards authority figures and society at large make her a ringer for this trope, though no ethnicity for characters or location for the story to be set in are ever given.
  • Not a Morning Person: Victoria has this reputation in her friend group. Serves as part of an Establishing Character Moment for her.
  • Odd Friendship: With Hannah. Victoria is a loudmouth and hot-headed delinquent. Hannah is quiet, anxious, and hates confrontation. Each sees the other as their best friend but doesn't realise the other feels that way.
  • Pyromaniac: Several times it is mentioned that Victoria is quite, uh, talented at starting fires.
  • Sailor Fuku: Victoria wears one, though it appears to be a case of personal style rather than an actual uniform.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: In this case, more like Lady Swears-a-Lot.

    Hannah

Well, there’s one reason why you should read more.

Simply known as Hannah, this high school student is one of the four main characters in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen. Garbed in a blue suit with a white blouse and green tie, Hannah’s outfit is reminiscent of a Japanese school uniform. Her large glasses are circular and serve to frame her bright green eyes. At 160cm tall, she is short of stature and dwarfed by her friends Gabriel and Victoria.

Hannah is the quietest member of the group. In contrast to the others, she is a lot less assertive and it takes some time for her to voice her thoughts. Hannah harbours many anxieties. She is sweet and well-meaning, but her fragility sometimes poses an obstacle. Extended conversations with Hannah will reveal the reasons behind her insecurities, providing the player with a chance to potentially offer some reassurance.

  • Book Smart: The most studious and education-driven out of all the characters and is able to spout pieces of trivia that she has learned.
  • Brainy Brunette: She's easily the most well read and Book Smart character of the group and has the hair to match.
  • Foil: For Victoria. Shy, academically smart and lacking confidence compared to Victoria’s loud and confrontational attitude.
  • Gamer Chick: Hannah's the gamer of the group and can even be found playing games on her phone during a conversation event.
  • Odd Friendship: With Victoria. Hannah is quiet, anxious, and hates confrontation. Victoria is a loudmouth and hot-headed delinquent. Each sees the other as their best friend but doesn't realise the other feels that way.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's by far the quietest member of the group, not having a lot of confidence in herself and often has trouble speaking up to the point where she feels that her friends rarely listen to her.
  • The Smart Girl: Advocates planning and caution while being the Book Smart member of the group.
  • Cowardly Lion: She is often scared and anxious in regards to everything, and though it might take her a while to get there Hannah ultimately does stand up despite her nervousness - be it confronting her friends when they dismiss her suggestions or standing up to Kalnash and killing them in one instance.

Others (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

    Lily Kosen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tmdolk_lily.png
Oh, what I wouldn't have given to see that!

Lily Kosen is a secondary character in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen, despite her prominence in the game's title. She wears a lavender hoodie and beret, has striking white hair and red eyes.

Not much is known about Lily due to her lack of screen time but she has a significant impact on the rest of the cast. A year prior to the game’s events she was killed as the result of an incident involving demonic possession and the ripples from that event affect her friends and the plot of the game to date.

  • Hospital Visit Hesitation: It’s shown during a flashback that Lily’s friends find it difficult to visit her in the hospital due to hating seeing her sick and feeling like they’re unable to do anything to help her.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Lily coughs up blood in the prologue, as a hint to her terminal illness
  • Not The Illness That Killed Them: Lily does not die of her illness though she does have a terminal one.
  • Posthumous Character: Lily is possessed by Kalnash within the first few minutes of the game. Most of what we learn of her is from anecdotes from the rest of the cast or from a few brief flashbacks.
  • Secondary Character Title: Despite only having a few minutes of screentime before succumbing to Demonic Possession she's the titular character.

    Kalnash
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tmdolk_kalnash.png
You think this will keep me down? You think this is the end? See you in a few days, friend.
Kalnash is the antagonist in The Many Deaths of Lily Kosen. Kalnash’s true appearance is never seen as they spend the game looking like the deceased friend of the main cast.

Kalnash is cruel and spiteful, determined to torment and eventually kill the cast seemingly for their own amusement.

  • Resurrective Immortality: Kalnash regenerates Lily’s body whenever killed, though the process takes at least several hours.
  • Sadist: Kalnash goes to extreme lengths to toy with the cast, frequently taunting them and going out of their way to kill them in as painful and personal a manner as possible.
  • Super-Strength: To a minor degree. Kalnash isn’t strong enough to hoist cars above their head but is stronger than Lily’s build would imply and is able to toss aside or trivially lift other characters up with a single hand.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Though this trope would be subverted for the case of Lily.
