Matthias Hildesheim
Matthias Hildesheim (aka Matty)
- Voiced by: Nina Tamaki (Japanese), Kayleigh McKee (English)
Known as "Gaius" in his previous life around 5000+ years ago, he reincarnated himself as Matthias in order to obtain a new Crest by his Reincarnation magic, which would be better than his "First Crest". He was able to successfully achieve his goal upon reincarnation in the form of "Fourth Crest". His main goal in life is to gain power so that he can challenge and fight against the powerful Monsters in the Outer Space.
- The Archmage: Matthias's past incarnation, Gaius, was this and one of Matthias's current goals in the present time is to become one once again with the aid of his Fourth Crest.
- Badass in a Nice Suit: Often fights demons and other monsters while wearing a suit and kicks a lot of butt in them.
- Combat Pragmatist: Matthias doesn't mess around during fights, especially against demons. He will use any underhanded tactics to lower the enemy's guard and strike when they're at their weakest.
- Experienced Protagonist: Due to him retaining the memories of his past life, he's this by default.
- Kid Hero: His current self is around 12 years old at the start of the story.
- Past-Life Memories: He deliberately kept the memories of his past life when he reincarnated.
- Reincarnation: Of Gaius, a mage that lived thousand years ago. This is deliberated because his past self's Crest has reached its limit and he wanted to reincarnate to gain his Fourth Crest.
- Secret Identity: He keeps the identity of his past self, Gaius, under wraps from the rest of his party, with Iris being the exception.
- That Man Is Dead: He acknowledges that his past self is dead and he is more comfortable with his current self.
Ruri Arvento Roth

A daughter of the Abendroth House. She has a crush on Matthias since the first day they met and bears the "First Crest" just like Matthias's previous reincarnation.
- Crush Blush: Sports these when she's concerned about Matty's safety or when Matty compliments her skills.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Her hair is blonde and she is a pretty sweet girl.
- Support Party Member: Her greatest magical affinity is with creation and enchantment magic. During battles, she is often seen creating and enchanting arrows for Alma to fire upon foes.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: She is the Girly Girl to Alma's Tomboy.
Alma Repsius
Alma Repsius
- Voiced by: Haruka Shiraishi (Japanese), Lizzie Freeman (English)
The third daughter of the Lepucius House. She is a best friend of Lurie and bears the "Second Crest". Although her magic power is lower than Matthias and Lurie, she has been good with her archery skills.
- Lethal Chef: Her cooking is so terrible that she had been banned from the kitchen back home. Not even Iris is able to stomach a bowl of soup that Alma just made.
- Mage Marksman: Her primary role in battle.
- Runaway Bride: She was supposed to marry a friend of her father, but she didn't like the guy and ran away with Ruri.
- Shipper on Deck: Constantly teases Matty and Ruri's obvious crushes on each other.
- Those Two Girls: She is rarely seen apart from her friend Ruri.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: She is the Tomboy to Ruri's Girly Girl
- Trick Arrow: She can use magic to enhance her arrows, making them deal poison damage or even turning them into Homing Projectiles.
Iris
Iris, the Black Dragon
- Voiced by: Shiori Izawa (Japanese), Brianna Knickerbocker (English)
An ancient black dragon and an acquaintance of Gaius. She appears in Chp. 13 of Vol. 1 of the manga. In Chp. 15 she transforms in a little girl and becomes a member of Matty's party.
- Big Eater: Suggested in some scenes in the background. It is logic since she is really a dragon in a human form, with the appropriated strength for a dragon.note
- The Big Girl: Though she has the look of a girl, she is really a big dragon, with the strength and the powers of a dragon. In human form she lacks control, however.
- Cute Clumsy Girl: Due to not being used to using a human body, she is prone to losing her balance. Since she is already incredibly strong and powerful, Matty's training revolves around her learning how to better move in human form.
- Emotionless Girl: Her facial expression and tone rarely changes from looking and sounding bored.
- Hugh Mann: Immediately after assuming human form and in the first battles as a girl.
- Meaningful Name: There exists a variety of iris (the flower), which name is Black Dragon.
- Modesty Shorts: Her clothes in her human form sports a frilly version of these.
- Really 700 Years Old: Her human form resembles a girl in her early teens, but make no mistake, Iris is at least a five-thousand years old at the start of the story; citing that was when she last flew before her wings got torn up.
- Pintsized Powerhouse: True for every member of the party, but the girl form of Iris is this trope in an impressive measure.
- Proportional Aging: Implied. Based on the appearance of her human form, it's implied that she is still pretty young by dragon standards.
- Secret Identity: She looks as a small girl but she is really a dragon. Only the members of the party know this fact and they do not divulge it.
- Secret-Keeper: She's the only female member of the party that knows Mattias' past life as Gaius.
- Warp Drive: Averted. At her first apparition, still in dragon form to transport Matthias' party to destination, she tries for Mach 1 speed - with a sudden deformation of the spacenote - but she is stopped by Matthias to avoid that excessive speed.
- Were Dragon: Iris is a huge black dragon, but she is able to assume the shape of a human girl. After the tranformation she remains in this form and is practically treated as a girl by Ruri and Alma. Mostly.
Zardias
Zardias
- Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (Japanese), Bill Butts (English)
A chaos demon and the mastermind behind most of the events in the series, as well as the self-professed strongest being in the world.
- Big Bad: He is behind most of the events that take place in the series and is Matty's most powerful opponent to date.
- Combat Pragmatist: While he is already too strong for Matty to defeat on his own, he is also shrewd enough to launch attacks at his allies to make the fight more difficult for him. He also resurrects other demons to deal with Matty's friends, knowing that they are trying to find a way to help him win.
- Evil Sounds Deep: He has a low-pitched voice and is quite clearly evil.
- Face Death with Dignity: His response to being defeated by Matty is to calmly declare that he is not the only chaos demon in the world, and the others will finish what he started.
- Generic Doomsday Villain: Like all demons, he plans to wipe out humanity but doesn't seem to have any reason for doing so other than an innate hatred of the species.
- Genius Bruiser: As well as being extremely powerful, he is also a master tactician who orchestrates several demon attacks prior to his reveal.
- Hero Killer: He succeeds in killing Matty, although, it doesn't stick.
- Lightning Bruiser: He is easily the strongest demon in the series and is able to either dodge or block every attack that Matty throws at him, except for the finishing blow.
- Necromancer: He can reanimate the corpses of fallen demons as People Puppets and even restore them to life completely.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: He spends most of the series imprisoned and pulling the strings from the shadows. He is released moments after Matty finds out about him.
- The Worf Effect: He proves to be more than a match for Matty, proving that he is indeed a threat to humanity itself.
