    Senna Akizuki
Nice to meet you, my name's Senna Akizuki! You read my mind exactly, two heads are better than one!

The overall protagonist of the game. She is an ordinary girl who woke up trapped within the titular school. She wants nothing more than to escape and see her brother again.

    Rei Touma
I've recently discovered there might be others trapped here aside from me. If so, then things might go more smoothy if we all work together. So to whomever is reading this, I don't care what you write in. Just please write back.

A blunt, yet protective student who looks out for Senna and anyone else who finds themselves in the school. He's asocial, but he nevertheless tries to maintain a good relationship with the others.

    Aki Haruna
A shy and cowardly girl who fears both social situations and spirits.

    Chinatsu Manabe
An outgoing and popular student with many friends.

    Kanon Shigure
A stoic and bespectacled girl who has a sixth sense, the ability to see spirits. Despite her incredible intelligence, she has trouble relating to others and doesn't really have any friends.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Downplayed in that she isn't evil or antagonistic, but she acts cold and detached to Chinatsu and admits that she has a hard time connecting with other people.
  • I See Dead People: She is one of the only characters who can sense spirits.

    Yakumo Kurosaki
Hmm, you’re not a ghost. What a disappointment...

A member of his school's occult research club who jumped at the chance to investigate spirits. Despite being in a life-or-death situation, he is thrilled to finally see a spirit in person.

  • Ax-Crazy: Eventually, he snaps after not getting to see a spirit and just tries to kill the rest of the party, laughing all the while.
  • Evil Laugh: Has one while he murders Senna if he catches her.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He has glasses and, like Kanon, does not get along with other people, but unlike Kanon he is more of an openly antagonistic Jerkass who eventually turns Ax-Crazy.
  • Jerkass: He acts dismissive toward the other characters for not sharing his interest in wanting to personally see a ghost, and only helps out when he feels like it. And that is before he goes Ax-Crazy in them.
  • More Hateable Minor Villain: He is an occult fanatic who behaves rudely to the other students and shows no concern for their safety in having been trapped in the titular school, instead only caring about seeing a ghost. He refuses to help the others unless he occasionally feels like it, steals the eyeballs of Sayuri's corpse which turns her into a Vengeful Ghost, and eventually snaps and tries to kill the others.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: While everyone else trapped in the titular haunted school with Vengeful Ghosts is fearing for their life and wanting to escape as soon as possible, he is an occult researcher who has been waiting his whole life to see real supernatural phenomenon, is exited to be here, and flat-out says he does not want to leave until he gets to see a real spirit.
  • Post-Final Boss: He will chase you along with some other spirits after Reika has been pacified and the characters are escaping from the school, but only briefly.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: He wields a knife as his weapon while murdering an innocent girl and trying to kill Senna and the others just to satisfy his bloodlust.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Of the party members, he is openly uncaring of the others and morbidly fascinated with the supernatural, and eventually betrays and tries to kill the party.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He is the only character with white hair and is a Jerkass more concerned with getting to see a spirit than the safety of his fellow human beings. And then he turns Ax Cazy and tries to kill the cast.

Spirits

    Reika Izayoi
The leader of the spirits haunting the school. She was once an ordinary schoolgirl who got good grades and was loved by her teachers. This made her a target of a trio of jealous students who bullied her, with one of them eventually killing her and her cat. She then became a spirit haunting the school, later befriending Kiyoka, the only student who could sense her presence, and Reika became very protective of her.
When Kiyoka was herself murdered by Tatsuki, Reika snapped and began her murder spree, seeking to kill everyone in the school. Her murders, which the public only saw as mysterious unexplained deaths, got the school shut down. Now she wanders the school, seeking out the three girls who bullied her- and she believes Senna, Aki, and Chinatsu to be those same girls.
  • Big Bad: She is the leader of the spirits haunting the titular Ghost School out for revenge on the world for killing her and her best friend.
  • Heel Realization: When the heroes calm her down and prove they are not the bullies who killed her, she calms down and sincerely apologizes, realizing and acknowledging that she unnecessarily drew innocent people into her retribution against the world.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Even after being killed by her three bullies, she was at least willing to be a mellow spirit anyway. But when another trio of bullies killed her best friend Kiyoka, that is when she snapped and became a Vengeful Ghost.
  • Misplaced Retribution: At first, she killed Tatsuki and her two lackeys; the ones responsible for the death of Kiyoka. But then she started going after everyone in the school, blaming them all for her misery. In particular, she torments Senna, Aki, and Chinatsu because she mistakes them for her three bullies, whom they heavily resemble.
  • Murder Into Malevolence: Downplayed in that her being killed by Tomoka did not immediately turn her into a Vengeful Ghost, though it did leave her bitter and distrustful of people. She still had a friend in Kiyoka, who could see her spirit. Then she was placed in a situation by Tatsuki that resulted in her falling to her death, and that's when Reika snapped.
  • Spree Killer: A supernatural version; after Tatsuki killed her Kiyoka, she retaliated by murdering Tatsuki and her two lackeys, then started offing everyone in the school she got her hands on.
  • Vengeful Ghost: She was cruelly killed by three school bullies, and witnessed her best friend fall to three more. Ever since then, she has killed anyone associated with that school she can find.

    Kiyoka Kawamura
A strange girl known for talking to herself. In truth, she also had the ability to see spirits, and befriended one of them, Reika. This made her a target of Tatsuki, who wound up killing her.
  • Big Good: She is the main benevolent spirit watching over the party and teaches them what they need to do to pacify Reika and escape.
  • Friendly Ghost: She is one of the benevolent spirits within the school and the Big Good who guides the heroes.
  • I See Dead People: While alive, she was the only person who could see Reika and talk to her. This, naturally, got her branded as a freak by everyone else, who assumed she was talking to herself and insane, making her a target of Tatsuki.
  • Morality Chain: To Reika, as her Only Friend and the one person who could see her spirit. With her around, Reika had someone to talk to, which kept her sane. But the second that she wound up dying because of Tatsuki, Reika snapped and went on a murder spree throughout the school. In addition, it is only when her spirit resurfaces and reunites with her that Reika can even be calmed down.

    The Eyeless Spirit

Sayuri

An eyeless girl who sometimes attacks the party, trying to seize their eyeballs for herself.

  • Heel–Face Turn: When Senna returns her eyeballs, her spirit calms down and retains her sanity.
  • Vengeful Ghost: She became a malicious spirit because Yakumo stole her eyeballs.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: Sayuri and the eyeless ghost girl are initially assumed to be two different people, and Eri begs the heroes to save Sayuri from the ghost, but it turns out that Sayuri is the ghost herself, having gone mad after her eyeballs were taken.

Others

    Tatsuki Sawashiro
The world's a pretty boring place, sometimes you have to play with fire and watch it burn.

Kiyoka's bully who picked on her for being weird. Having suffered at the hands of an overbearing father who demanded academic perfection, she became bitter and sought to torment others to relieve her pain. She had Tomoko plant sharp tacks in Kiyoka's shoes, then publicly outed Tomoko for it to the teacher, a betrayal that drove Tomoko to suicide. She then stole Kiyoka's shoes and challenged her to get it on the edge of the school rooftop, resulting in Kiyoka falling to her death. This marked her as Reika's first victim.

  • Alpha Bitch: A blonde, cruel bully who picks on everyone she perceives as weaker than her.
  • Asshole Victim: She is dismembered and her body left to hang by Reika- after she just killed Reika's best friend Kiyoka.
  • Freudian Excuse: A flashback scene establishes that the reason she is such an Alpha Bitch is that her Education Papa would pressure her to get perfect grades and once blew up at her for “only” getting a 97/100.
  • Lack of Empathy: She shows a lack of care for anyone but herself. She betrays Tomoko, her loyal Beta Bitch, by making her the Fall Guy for putting tacks in Kiyoka's shoes even though it was Tatsuki's idea, and upon hearing that Tomoko was Driven to Suicide from it, brushes it off. She also plays a dangerous game with Kiyoka, challenging her to get her shoes from atop the school roof, and when this results in Kiyoka falling to her death, Tatsuki again brushes it off.
  • More Hateable Minor Villain: She relentlessly bullied Kiyoka Kawamura for being "weird", doing things like making her Beta Bitch Tomoko stick sharp tacks in Kiyoka's shoes. Also bullying Tomoka for her weight, when the teacher learns of what they did, Tatsuki shifts all the blame to Tomoko, driving her to suicide, to which Tatsuki reacts with apathy. She then causes Kiyoka's death, causing Reika to brutally murder her. Even her Freudian Excuse of having an Education Papa does little to make her sympathetic.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She only appears in a few flashback scenes, but it was her murder of Kiyoka that caused Reika to snap and become the Big Bad.
  • Smug Smiler: Her default expression in her portrait is a smug grin she pulls out whenever she is either bullying someone, planning on bullying someone, or pretending to be nice to someone.

    Tomoko
A chubby girl who followed Tatsuki around. She was often the victim of insults from Tatsuki about her weight.
  • Beta Bitch: She followed Tatsuki around and did whatever she told her to, like putting tacks in Kiyoka's shoes.
  • Driven to Suicide: After Tatsuki left her to take the call for bullying Kiyoka, she hung herself.
  • Fall Guy: Tatsuki had her put tacks in Kiyoka's she’s to make her feet bleed, then when the teacher asked about it in class, accused Tomoko and had her take the fall for her own plan.

    Teacher
The teacher of the class that Kiyoka, Tatsuki, and Tomoko attended.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He publicly called out Tomoko for placing tacks in Kiyoka's shoes, not realizing that Tatsuki had put her up to it and was using her as a fall gal. She promptly commits suicide.
  • No Sympathy: A note left by him reveals he feels no sympathy for Tomoko for killing herself, instead saying that all he did was expose her bullying and it is not his fault in any way.

    Yumi, Rie, and Tomoka
A trio of bullies who tormented Reika back when she was alive, envious of her preferential treatment by the teacher. They invited her over to the school where Tomoka wound up pushing her over, killing her, and kicked her cat Chloe to death. To hide what they did, the trio buried Reika in the Animal Hutch.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Tomoka is established as being the worst of the trio after kicking and killing Reika's cat, Chloe, just for being in the way, to the point that Yumi and Rie both take issue with it.
  • The Bully: All three of them picked on Reika when she was alive.
  • Driven by Envy: They targeted Reika for their bullying specifically resenting the preferential treatment she received because of her better grades.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Yumi and Rie were perfectly fine tormenting and even killing Reika, but express disgust at Tomoka also killing her cat Chloe.
  • Identical Stranger: Yumi, Rie, and Tomoka happen to respectively look like Senna, Aki, and Chinatsu. Reika dragged the latter to the school and tried to kill them because she mistook them for the former.
  • Karma Houdini: After having bullied and killed Reika and her cat, they vanish from the plot, with no indication as to where they are now. While Tatsuki and her two lackeys were gruesomely murdered by Reika's spirit, she never managed to exact her revenge on them, and went after Senna, Aki, and Chinatsu because they looked like the bullies. Ultimately she gives up on her grudge and the bullies are never seen being punished.
  • Kick the Dog: Or Kick The Cat in this case; Tomoka establishes herself as the worst of the bullies by kicking Chloe the cat to death, which disgusts fellow bullies Yumi and Rie.
  • More Hateable Minor Villain: They are the trio of bullies who targeted Reika and are responsible for her death. Driven by Envy of her Teacher's Pet status, the three invited her over to the school at night and picked on her, ending in Tomoka pushing her over and killing her. The three then decide to bury her and hide any evidence of what happened. Tomoka in particular shows her loathsomeness by kicking Reika's pet cat Chloe to death, disgusting even Yume and Rie. And unlike Yakumo and Tatsuki, the trio is never shown being punished for their actions.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They only appear in a single flashback in the end of the game, but they were the ones who killed Reika and her cat (specifically, Tomoka did it and the other two helped cover it up), which would eventually turn her into a Vengeful Ghost and the Big Bad.
  • Token Evil Teammate: All three are awful bullies, but Tomoka in particular is the worst of the trio, as she is the one who directly killed Reika by pushing her (though it was an accident, she feels no guilt and is only concerned with hiding it) and Chloe the cat by kicking her, an act that offends even Yumi and Rie.
